[Q] do some x10 not get continuous AF after 2.1? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend and I both have sensuous black x10i, both bought from the same carrier and when we got updated to 2.1 (hers first, because i bought mine this year and she had hers since last year) the phones didnt get continuous AF on video mode. I used to have an x10 mini that i bought factory unlocked, and when i got the 2.1 update it did get it, and you could easily see the video refocusing while recording a video. however, none of our x10s can do that. we got the first 2.1 update but to get the multitouch update i flashed both of them to a generic kit and STILL we didnt get continuous AF in the video.. we have both searched in the camera settings menu for a setting to turn it on/off but without luck.
is it possible that some x10s didnt get this? because if it was just mine i would have thought that it was a mistake with mine but its weird that it happened to both.

Hmmm....very weird indeed. Ive had auto focus working since 2.1 was released. I would say maybe it's a hardware problem on your phone, but since its both of your phones, that would seem really strange.
I just checked my phone right now, and auto focus was snappy good.
I guess all I can say is try reflashing the firmware on both phones...unless someone else has a better idea???
Are you 100% sure AF isn't working??? Is the lense clean on both phones???

there are few factors that auto-focus could fail(software/hardware):
1. the subject is too close or too far.
2. the subject or environment is not properly lit.
3. the subject does not have enough contrast(since the autofocus is based on contrast detection).
4. your moving the camera too fast(even before the initial focus lock comes in), try waiting for it to lock.(if possible).
5. check the metering(though this is for whitebalance and scene detection, it might help to play around it)
6. or worse the camera of your x10 is damaged, dirty(inside, but i think it more likely not).

I went to the house of the girl i sold my old x10 mini to to check something out.. we tried shooting the same thing from the same angle, gettign closer and further from it to see if it would refocus, and the mini did it right away and you could easily notice it in the screen and you could also see the lense moving back and forth inside the phone (and feel it in your hand as it moved), but again my x10 didnt do it. and also today I saw someone i know that has an x10 (not my friend from the first post, another girl) and also had the same problem and she also bought it from my carrier (hers is still branded but mine is unbranded)
so its safe to asume that this happens to all the x10s of my carrier (orange, dominican republic)

have you noticed that the subject in your video is in focus or is there no focus at all? it may be working better then you thought. remember, just because you can't see it the focus changing, doesn't it's not continuous auto focus, maybe it just rocks...?
sent using my wicked awesome premium xda app

it doesnt focus on things that are closer to the camera at all. and the x10 mini i mentioned before DOES focus on the same thing at the same distance.

Problem with SGS2 Camera

Hello guys.
I need your help.
I bought my SGS2 in 01.08.2012 but today I was taking some shots with it, and after I take a photo to a polish i poited the camera to the ceiling and the camera just went crazy.
There are a bunch of pink, green, blue all over the place, it's very strage.
I upgraded the firmware to ICS a few days ago, so I tought it could be a bug problem so I downgraded to Gingerbread, that didn't solve the problem so I went to this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098834 and tried the camera upgrade... but still nothing.
I'm very sad with this, can anyone help me? Or at least let me know if its a hardware or software problem?
Let me just say the white balance is selected as AUTO.
Here are two pictures of it.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Front Cam Issue

Hi guys,
I'm not usually using my front camera, but today i realized it has a big green-pink pixelated stripe.
What do you think about that? It might be a hardware of software/firmware issue?
What should i do?
Thanks!
I attached some photos taken with the camera and the stripe doesn't appear when it's too dark or bright..

Have you power cycled the phone? You gave us only a little information.
Z.
I forgot to mention that i tried few android versions for my phone (it came with 4.0.4, i flashed 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and then returned to 4.1.1). I'm currently on 4.1.1 i9300xxdlib. The phone was resetted even to factory settings..
did it show up on the other versions? try putting CM on it or something and see if it shows up then, or try a different camera app from the play store
I don't remember having this issue on 4.0.4 version since i didnt use the front camera then.
Yes, the issue persists in other apps too.
I am trying to flash 4.0.4 now and see what happens. Does the root have something to do with this? 3
Hardware problem. You dropped the phone? The camera lens might moved from its original position and it's giving refracted beams in the sensor. You might claim your warranty.

Very poor image quality on Xperia Ray (st18i) with stock kernel and rom

I am using my Xperia Ray for a few years now. I haven't found better phone for myself yet. I am specially satisfied with image and movie qualtiy. Since beginning I am not using stock rom (Now i am using Xperia Ultimate HD).
My girlfriend also decided to buy same phone, because of its size and image quality.
We bought second hand phone (it is stil in warranty). I left stock rom on it, because she is using phone only for calling, email, and photos.
We are verry disapointed with image quality on her phone. Difference is more than obvious. It is obvious already when I turn on camera and I want to take a photo.
I checked settings. I can only set image quality (I put on 8 MP)...but the quality is nearly the same as her old Samsung Salaxy 3 (3MP).
Is that because of stock rom. I can barely belive that? What should be the reasong. I cleaned camera on the back side. Image size is the same (aproximatelly 2,5 MB). If you think that there maybe problem with hardware, I will take it to the service. But I am afraid, they will say...that the images are as they should be.
Any idea?

Only able to set image quality is when you have automatic scene recognition turned on. Switch to Manual and you have more options.
You said you left stock ROM on it. GB or ICS? Could you try another ROM there (could also be stock, or custom if you wish)?
in some ways, it's limited or composed by Sony. so is xperia z. sony make the size much smaller than normal level. so the quality get worse. but you can also use more options( like use another rom) to make it better
Hello,
I don't have any more ideas. Please help. Today, I flashed her Ray with new kernel (xXernel from sirkay) and new custom Romy Xperia Ultimate HD. Now we have both rom-s.
Strange, but camera problem resists. I took same photos with both phones. I think it is obvious which is mine and which is her?
I have problem now, because I can not use warranty anymore (because I rooted phone and unlocked bootloader).
Does anyone have idea is hardware related or software related problem? I have feeling like camera cannot focus image, but I am not sure if it is done by hardware or software.

just relock the bootloader and connect the phone to Pc companion and click repair it'll make a fresh install in the Ray and now the sony guys cannot make it out that the phone was rooted so.. just tell them this issue and you'll get it done for free as you said its still in warranty! if you want i'll give the ftf file which will actually relock the bootloader back again and you can also unlock it back after it gets repaired
Hmmm....well if you change the roms and kernel but the problem still persist then the problem comes from the camera it self....you have to understand not all phone on the same model made by any manufacture are identical...some may have a slight problem such like death piksel and in your case, camera....
no matter how many roms you try it will not give you any improvement regarding its camera if the bug come from the camera (hardware) it self....
I understand that. Do you think thay will submit that mistake. I am afraid, they will say that camera is working. What is your experience with warranty?

Hmmm....since you buy a second hand phone it will be a bit difficult to use that warranty and they won't replace the camera unless the camera is completely not working....
regarding warranty, there two types of warranty...
1.original from the manufacture....
2.warranty comes from where you buy it (shop)....
for the first one, any problem (hardware or software) are going to be replace without having to buy replacement part (hardware) but you might have to pay for the services only....
for the second one, any problem with the phone, your be charge for the replacement part (hardware) and the services....
I've faced with this problem same yours.
The problem is about the lens coating (a glass of camera).
Please look at camera , there is purple coating on the lens , it may be scratch.
I solve this problem by cleaning it by rub it with alcohol or glass cleaner.
Sorry for my poor english.

Xperia Z2 autofocus not working, at all.

So, hi guys.
I just came home with my new Z2 after giving back my Z.
I downloaded the german ftf and the new flashtool for the Z2 and updated to this firmware.
I'm really not sure if this is related to the firmware update but I don't think so.
My issue is quite simple: the camera autofocus doesn't work. It just simply has a fixed focus (which works great for the near stuff but 100% fails for all other distances).
It's not a slow autofocus, it just doesn't work, the camera doesn't move, you don't hear any focusing noise. the camera button doesn't focus, tap on the screen doesn't focus.
Basically all my pictures and my videos have an amazing quality, but are all out of focus.
I googled around but looks like nobody has this issue. Is that fatal? Should I return it?

Xperia and almost all smartphones have digital focus
there s no special hardware for zooming
SO if you have problem in one feature of camera App do this;
- use another camera app : for example google camera and check if it can do auto focus
- install another firmware or just reinstall current firmware
- repair firmware by PCC
- after these IF sill thr s no auto focus >> take it to sony service
:good:

Autofocus and (digital) zoom are two different things.
I just update the 402 firmware and now my camera won't focus at all. It was fine before. Wtf...
Got the same Problem as you i have cyanogenmod 12.1 and my autofocus doesn't work as well on my z2. It worked with the stock Rom but after i unlocked, rooted and flashed CM on it, the autofocus doesn't work anymore. I Tried other camera apps but the AF just won't work. Have you solved the Problem yet? I'm considering to flash back to stock Rom but CM is so awesome

I can confirm that the focus button doesn't work on CM12.1 on my Z2 and the focus state doesn't work on the Google camera app, but I found an app that makes use of this autofocus feature - DSLR Camera Pro. The only downside to it, however, is that you can only take photos with it, and plus it's a paid app (but was worth it). Maybe there are other apps that can detect this autofocus, but I haven't researched this problem fully.
a m i feel the same tried and nothing drm reset the camera still faulty even if anyone has any solution please write
Same problem here...
Same issue except it won't even take photos and just sits there trying to focus.
The only fix is to revert to the previous official OS if you think it's worth it...

I hate necro-ing, but I have this last described problem too. Phone tries to focus, and the app stays that way forever.
I thought it was the result of restoring a TWRP backup from another phone, but resetting anything camera-related does not solve the problem.

Video focus hunting / Camera keeps refocusing while filming

Hello,
My wife's been having a Honor 10 (COL-L29) for a little over half a year. Everything fine except the camera is constantly hunting for focus. Every few seconds it is refocusing by moving the lens from close-up to infinite and back to correct focus. I've tried it with the latest camera included in software v9.1.0.326 but also with a random 3rd party app. You can clearly hear the focusing camera elements moving.
The most annoying part is during video recording. And since we have a 7 month old baby, she's filming him a lot.
I've tried searching online but nobody seems to have complained about something similar until now.
My OnePlus 5 doesn't do the same thing in the same environment, so I cannot blame some colors, textures or similar.
Will also try posting on honor/Huawei forums in a moment.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated!
yeah, I got that problem too..... a bit annoying. Maybe I did not realize, but as far as I remember.....it was not happened on EMUI 8.1. The problem starts after updating to EMUI 9.
Yeah I've had this to after the last software upgrade.
I've been chatting with a support rep today.
Interestingly, she talked like she was aware of the problem (she immediately recognised what I was thinking about) and she asked me when did the problem appeared (like it was introduced by an update).
Clearing the camera's and the phone's cache didn't help. I was thinking of checking out if another phone has the same issue (if I can still find one on display).
Otherwise the rep advised me to go to a service center or contact the seller.

Huawei has released a patch pack that seems to solve this problem for Honor 10 in China (COL-AL00 COL-AL10 COL-TL00 COL-TL10). I guess the oversea version is on it's way
Im in the UK and I'm already on .326
I have the same problem and running .326 version .
Glad that i am not the only one.
I found out that if after u ar starting a video and manually do a focus with one finger it stops hunting focusing after.
I first discovered the problem after upgrading to emui 9.1.
Hope this will help others!
I was to the service center some 4-5 days ago. The guy there took a look at the phone, I showed him the issue and he acknowledged it. He ordered a new camera module, a mainboard and something else (I didn't understood what he said): I'm waiting for a call from the service center for the actual parts replacement.
So after what u said then this is a hardware problem not a software problem and i should find the nearest shop and have look!
I'm afraid that it's 400 km from me the neareast shop.
I don't know what it is. I am checking for a new software version on a daily basis (until I'm called that the parts arrived).
I only reported back what the dude from the official service center told me.

please don't forget to let us know how it goes with the new hardware....
So yesterday afternoon got the parts exchanged: mainboard, cameras & back plate. Apparently the back plate cannot be glued back upon removal. The whole thing took some 3.5 hours.
Weirdly the mainboard came with some version 8.1.0.1xx EMUI. I don't know if it was preinstalled of the service tech guy flashed after assembling the phone.
The problem is gone but I cannot say for sure if it is the old software or the new hardware.
When trying to update the software (before restoring with HiSuite) I only got a small version bump (still 8.1.0.1xx). HiSuite was proposing me an update but didn't take it. I want to film something, update, film the same again all while the phone is on a tripod pointing exactly at the same scene.

I just got a new Honor 10, a week ago. I made all the EMUI updates before testing the camera. I noticed the horrible focus in and out problem, and I was prepared to send it back to the seller. After I searched a bit, I found this thread and I realized it may not be a hardware problem, but a software problem. I'm now downgrading to EMUI 9.0 and hooping the HiSuite allows me to downgrade later to 8.1 to test if the problem disappears. BTW, the post processing of the photos in low light is also horrible, especially with people's faces. But I want to keep the phone because of the size, price and specs.
Do you have any more information about your case? Had you the opportunity to do the tests with 9.1?
I haven't update it yet. My wife keeps on postponing it.
Right now it is on 8.1.0.104 and it wants to install 8.1.0.151.
The problem seems to be almost gone, except for critical situations (carpet with high contrast pattern), but even then it is barely noticeable.
It will stay on this software for the time being...

I have an update on my side. I downgraded to 9.0 and I still had the problem. But when I downgraded to 8.1 the problem simply disappeared! I'm using the build ending in 151, so I think you can upgrade to that version with no problem. If you upgrade to 9.0 and the problem continues, just make a backup before upgrade, and then you can downgrade to 8.1 again and restore with HiSuite (very simple and fast do downgrade).
When you have the problem, you can "fix" it downgrading to 8.1 with HiSuite, but we don't know why some people have the problem, and apparently a lot of people don't have the problem at all. If your works now with 9.0 or 9.1, it probably have something to do with some hardware change in the Honor 10 production that caused the problem.
anyone tried other camera app? I'm gonna try Open Camera
I've tried some random app. I don't remember the name, but the behaviour was the same.
I've mentioned this in the initial post.
I seems that I only have de problem with 9.1 (in the 2 version available). I 'm testing 9.0 and it seems ok.

So it's a software problem after all.
I am curious, did u downgrade, and the downgrade wiped your ur data?
