Quick Question?? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be getting my g tablet tomorrow. I heard that a new update locks something that prohibits the g tab to get different roms. I found the thread that shows how to downgrade but how to I determine if I need to downgrade. I think its 4349 that locks it but I can I tell if its running 4349?

Settings-About Tablet. Chances are it won't come with it, but it will prompt you to install it after you connect to WiFi.

Update and rooting?

So there just popped up a notification saying that there's a new update for my X10i (unbranded nordic).
However, I haverooted my phone, will updating it screw that up?
No, just run seus and update.
According to everyone in this thread here, YES!

There currently is no root for the update so yes it will effect it.
Yes, read it wrong, I thought they meant will it affect being able to update.

(NEW) 9.4.2.22

Okay so now we have 9.4.2.22 (JP) but hope to see one for (US) soon. I wondering if ASUS goofed and now we will be able to root without unlocking.

Not development related. This should be in the 'General' section.

You able to root with out unlocking. Mine is rooted and is not unlocked and so is many other users.

yeah if you used OTA root keeper, if not then .21 you are not able to use the same exploits to root it

You don't need to unlock in order to gain root. Thats what the other guy meant to say.
ask mods to move this to general section. then find or post a changelog for .22
ASUS always releases the JP firmware last out of all the different versions. They always have a slightly different version number (rest of world had .15 JP had .17). The only reasons are translation and handwritten character to text support.
There will be nothing new that the rest of the world does not already have. Changelogs for both WW .21 and JP .22 below:
Code:
Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201 Firmware: V9.4.2.21 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.0.3)
V9.4.2.21 Release Note
1. Upgrade Google Mobile Applications
2. Upgrade Vibe version
3. New browser function which able to keep user’s choice of browser viewing type
4. Enable battery usage data in Settings.
5. New display mode of HDMI output
6. Enable press-able notification in lock screen
7. Support Wi-Fi Ad hoc mode
8. Add new system bar lock function

That's all folks!
EDIT: Can we put this nonsense to bed now please?
@OP: If you check the ASUS site so regularly, why is it that you were unaware of the differing version numbers between previous JP and WW, DE, TW, US etc... (read: rest of the world) firmware releases?
EDIT 2: CAN A MOD PLEASE MOVE AND CLOSE THIS THREAD, AS IT SERVES NO PURPOSE AND IS OBVIOUSLY IN THE WRONG PLACE.

I do not believe that a new root exploit has been discovered since .21 was released.
If I am mistaken, please link to the dev thread for it.

Read my previous post, the JP .22 firmware IS IDENTICAL to the rest of the world's .21 firmware.

Do you mean that the 9.4.2.22 can be rooted as the 9.4.2.21?
My eeepad Transformer is delivered last weekend, with the 9.4.2.22 (upgraded in store?).
But i don't have any clue how i can rooted this. I've read about downgrading, but isn't this a bit risky?
ps Only thing i want to run is SwitchME to have multiple users option... :$

You have't kept up then. You can downgrade your firmware now if you're on .21. This will allow you to go to a prevously rootable firmware, root your tablet and let ASUS push the .21 OTA to your tablet. Once in .21 use OTA Rootkeeper to restore root.

Haha I hear you. I know blob'ing while rooted was never an issue for me. I suppose I'll look over their nonrooted processes, but it should actually be pretty safe.

yea, we won't really know if this is a root exploit patch until someone takes the hit.
Its been confirmed by multiple people that the update does not address root or loki.

Yes...it doesn't patch root. If you are rooted and do not have a custom recovery installed. You can accept the update and it does nothing. If you have TWRP installed, you need to flash the stock recovery, accept the update and then flash back to TWRP after.

Software Upgrade Assistant fails
SUA acts like it knows my phone is connected, even says searching for updates, but never lists my G2 in the window of devices. Drivers are current and using LG cable to a main USB port.
Does LG post changelogs or would this come from Verizon?
I would think VZW since they are the one changing LG's software.

Most idiot-proof way to upgrade atm is using the Verizon upgrade utility that is included with the phone. Just hook it up to your pc, follow the autorun prompt, and then proceed to download it and it should install the update automatically.
Dumb question probably... Do I need to do something first if coming from malladus rom like revert to stock?
Thanks

I believe so. You may have to kill root as well if you're using the upgrade assistant method.

Settings, about, somewhere in one of those options is the updater.
If that doesn't work try this, remember always backup first as this way can/might reset your phone

It does not matter if you have cancelled it or not as you are doing a manual update check.

In the about phone section can you tell me what version of android you have and it will also be followed by something like this UGMK7 etc
Edit: you need to match up your pda,csc and modem version to one on this site. If it matches the top on you do indeed have the latest.
