I know, everyone wants to tell me to search for it. But honestly, have you tried to "search" for it? When I go looking, I find everything but a decisive answer on how to do what I would like. SO if you'll bear with this LONG email. You'd not only be helping me, but others possibly.
Here's what I've got (I'm not all sure what you need from me so there's extra info from other screens on here - exception is I'm not posting my IMEI number)
The ROM on the phone is the new manufacturers ROM update that was made available 9/11/2009.
HTC Hero (the actual phone, not just the ROM)
Firmware: v1.5
Kernel version: 2.6.27-8dd6dee
Build number: 2.73.405.5 146733
Software version: 1.0.0.A6288
HERO CVT SHIP S-ON
HBoot 1.76.007 (HERO10000)
MicroP-010f
Touch Panel-syn0104
RADIO-6.35.06.18
I've "rooted" my phone (using "Recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.2.img" and "flashrec-20090815.apk" - as I got told I couldn't install "flashrec-1.1.2-20090909.apk" by the phone when I tried to install it), and also used the SDK adb to push and allow permissons for su and superuser.apk.
The instructions (and videos) on theunlockr.com seemed to help me with that, and I'm a total NOOB. As now that's where I'm at. Not much further.
So what I'm looking for is how to get my apps to run of my MicroSDCard in the phone?
I've tried apps2sd and apps2sd 2 and everytimg I load apps2sd 2 it tells me that my partition on the card isn't corrent and asks me if I want to have it do it for me. Well, to continue I have to choose "Yes" and set sizes... it says "DONE" and I click on reboot now.. Nothing happens. I've left it sit on that screen for up to two hours... nothing happens. I have to hard reset my phone to get back to HOME.
OK I've seen instructions on using Paragon Partition Magic to partition my memory card. I've done that (can do that again - 4G card - 3GB fat32, 900MB Ext2, 100MB Swap - nothing seems to get recognized no matter how I grow or shrink these as apps2sd 2 still tells me it's invalid and wants to repartion now the "remaining 3GB of Fat32 space")
Why don't I try a custom ROM? Well when I did that... my SMS quick working all together. Since that's a "pretty nice feature" to have... I stepped back and went to the manufacturers ROM update that was just released. It seemed I got all the "speed" of the recent Madacco ROM and my SMS worked.
Now that 123MB space reserved for applications on a "raw" manufacuters build phone. Ya... not enough. I want to run and store my apps on my SD Card, I load a lot of games and other stuff, so by the time I'm done I've only got maybe 5MB of the 123MB left - at that point the web and everything slows WAY down.
I need some instructions on how to do this (run apps from SD Card rather than from phone) based on the configuration I currently have (or based on a ROM out there specifically for the HERO that will allow all my other features to work as well as run apps off of the SD card). The last custom rom I tried of Modacco's disabled my SMS functionality.
Not that I think it matters. I'm in the USA, running the HERO on a SMS network (CellOne or CellularOne - aka: chinookwireless.net).
Also, if anyone out there knows how to get MMS working on CellOne (cellonenation.net) on this phone... (I LOVE YOU! and would pay a small amount of $ ($20) even to you if your info "works" via paypal - I'm an honest fellow... trust me you'd get the money).
I've tried to fanagle the settings on http://www.cellonenation.com/support/ they have a link near the bottom of the page "What if you have a smart phone? (CLICK HERE)" (multiple HTC phones, none are andriod). But with no success.
Sorry for the long posts... People hate reading them... I just want some simple help... without getting slapped down for not being able to find all the info I need from "searching" the forums. Pppppplease (says roger rabbit)
Current APN Settings on the HERO HTC that I've got working Phone, Internet and SMS are:

None of those MMS settings seem to matter (still nothing works). I've contacted my provider. MMS is turned on and part of my calling plan. Note: CellOne doesn't sell this phone, I ordered it from Buy.COM vendor in the US it is factory unlocked. Help?
One final thing to request... The internet on CellOne is either REALLY, REALLY slow (up to 30 seconds just to load google.com (mobile version)) or there must be a better radio driver out there? How to on that would be grand as well.

Since debranding, rooting, and putting 2.1 on an x10, my fiance can no longer recieve an mms from me (tmobile android). It says message not compatible. She further has issues with yahoo email attachments. They show up as .dat files and no attachments where on my device they work fine. I used a generic 2.1 firmware. I would appreciate any help or direction on this.

I used the generic 2.1 since there is no USA version out yet.
Edit: after hours of banging my head it turns out ATT has the worst mms size limit of 600k. T-mobile and others are at 1 mb. That was the mms issue.
Hi,
I just updated my wm 6.5 to android Gingerbread 2.3.7, but I have no internet 3G signal, what could be the problem?
On the same note:
1) How do I update the profile? I do not see an option anywhere in the settings.
2) How do you load a radio rom - I'm guessing this is something that is causing my internet issue.
Thank you, any help would be appreciated!

if you didnt flash a different radio version to your phone, then your radio is working just fine. the problem is that the custom rom that you flashed to your device isnt configured with your carriers 'apn' settings. its been a while since i played with the gingerbread settings but iirc it should be under your settings>wireless & networks>mobile networks>and you should see something that says apn or access point names or simmilar. click that and you will need to enter the settings for your carrier. tmobile or att is likely what youre on. if not you can google the settings for the apn for your specific carrier.

Hi Haxin,
Thank you for your response. I am with Sprint. I just checked with Sprint, and they informed me that they do not use APN setting (all are left blank). Anyone else knows how I can just flash the radio for the htc touch pro2 android GB2.3.7? Not sure if operating system makes a differerence what you can update on the radio ROM. Also, I'm curious why the PRL update isn't included in the Android settings? Thanks!
NOTES/DISCLAIMER
This will not flash you to metro. If you need help with this message me or find me on irc. I can help you but XDA frowns upon it DON'T ASK HERE. I am not at all responsible if you die, get struck by lightning, etc.
This guide assumes you already have text/call/data working on your Evo 3D
Ok, i've been looking around for a way to get mms working on an aosp 4.2.2 rom for a long time now. I finally got it working and decided to share my info. Just to be clear i didn't develop anything here, i used the 4.2.2 cyanogenmod device profile for d2mtr on metro. Your'e gonna need to download http://www.mediafire.com/?t2nvso7yaqeixgk
GUIDE
1. Open voice dialer.
2. Say this exact phrase "OPEN APNS"
3. input these settings:
Code:
Name: metropcs
APN: internet
Proxy: Do not modify
Port: Do not modify
Username: Do not modify

4. Copy PressY4Pie-MMS-FIX.zip to Sdcard
5. Reboot into recovery.
6. Flash it
7. reboot,test,profit
If you need help come find me on irc. i hang out on freenode.irc.com in #OUDHitsquad. while your there thank Shabbypenguin as most of the help came from his device profile for d2mtr. Also its a good idea to clear cache and dalvik. and as always keep a backup

hm thats weird. must be that build prop thing hold on.
EDIT:
try this. You'll have to do the build.prop edits yourself. look at mpcs.sh in the zip if you dont know metro's stuff.
http://www.mediafire.com/?q448hx5s8zyy87f
you'll need to replace
Code:
ro.product.brand = sprint
with
Code:
ro.product.brand.*/ro.product.brand = metropcs
and change
Code:
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric = 310120
to
Code:
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric = 310027
and finally:
Code:
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha = Sprint
to
Code:
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha = MetroPCS

What ROM are you using? Some variant of stock?
I'm having calling issues in the various CM versions I've tried.
edit - the GSM version of the GPE ROM works fine though. Flashed it with Danvdh's VZ kernel.
Originally on stock of1 but just flashed stang5litre but the method worked on both.
So I have to root to get MMS on to get the VZW S4 to work on T-Mobile correct?
So if I follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/samsung-s4-i545-verizon-of1-root-t3254434
I should be able to jump right in to your guide?

Yes sir!
I get a screen which says "Device Locked". the message goes on to explain this is likely because the phone has been locked down by manufacturer (carrier?) and even rooted devices can have problems due to SELinux restrictions.

If you see that message it's because the su binary is not high enough. Install the apk in the same folder that is linked in the OP, open supersu and update if needed then try again after rebooting.
Thanks. I got it to work. Looks like the SMSC number needs to be re-entered after each reboot and texting doesn't work in LTE mode, but looks easy enough to toggle back and forth when necessary.

Glad it's working for you. I haven't experienced the rebooting problem though. Do you have any other network apps that may be auto setting the smsc number at boot?

Yeah I have the same problem of having to re-enter the SMSC number after every reboot too and I'm not sure of the culprit. Would love to know if there is a way to permanently change this so I don't have to fiddle with it every time

Check under your mobile network settings, make sure network mode isn't set to global. It should say gsm/umts. You may want to re apply settings after changing modes. I noticed the global setting screwed up my tmobile settings so hopefully it's related to your issues.(fingers crossed)

I followed your guide for my dad's verizon s4 but I am running into some problems.
I rooted it following the root guide linked earlier in this thread and root is successful. SuperSu is installed and root checker verified.
However, in my APN settings, under APN Type, i have to manually type in "Internet+MMS", and the under APN Protocol, the only choices are ipv4, ipv6, ipv4/ipv6.
Also, when I open the advanced signal status app, do i select the LTE/GSM (PRL), is that what you meant?
edit: even just selecting GSM auto (prl), i still cant get 3g, 4g, or LTE. Only edge.

Having to manually enter your apn type is normal. I have "internet, mms, supl" typed into mine. The problem you are having with the app being locked is because your version of the su binary isn't correct. Install the supersu app that is included in the OP. Before doing anything else you will need to open the newly installed supersu app and allow the binary to update. After it has updated immediately reboot and it should no longer be locked. Also back under the APN settings, don't mess with the ipv4/ipv6 settings. Just leave them at default.
When I get to APN protocol, it's not giving me the option "WAP 2.0".... Only IPv4, IPv6, and then IPv4/IPv6.
Also not giving me the option to save the newly created APN. What to do next?

At the bottom of the tutorial is a link to a google drive folder with two apk files. Download them and open them on your phone to start the install. After installing "supersu.apk" click open and accept the upgrade, click normal when asked what method to use then reboot when it prompts. The lock will be gone.

Great, thanks alot man that actually worked perfectly. Another question though... so in order to do what we just did, You have to have absolute root access to your phone right? i opened a terminal emulator app and notice that i still have the dollar sign on the command line. But when i run "su", it has the hash symbol which i'm assuming means i'm root now or at least have root privileges. Shouldn't i have had the hash symbol as soon as i started the emulator? does this mean my su binary is still not high enough?
