Hey guys, I'll be selling my Archos device and wanted to "clean it up" before it goes. In the Developers Edition Menu, I select "uninstall developer edition" and hit the power button, but it just returns me to the previous menu.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
have you rebooted after "uninstalling" ?

Twice, but now I tried it again and the developers edition is no longer there... I would have expected some kind of prompt or something!
It's showing less than 6GB on my device TOTAL MEMORY - I guess I'll have to format it completely to get that back?
i think this is because of the root.img file (500MB uncompressed) the SDE installed on your internal storage. it contains Angstrom Linux which is installed together with the SDE. you can safely remove it

I don't think you understood. I have the 8GB Archos and the total memory should be just under 8gb, but it's showing 5.58GB Total Space and 2.39GB free - what happened to the "other" 2GB of space? I would imagine there's a partition somewhere (created by Urukdroid) that the regular archos OS isn't reading.
Ah ok, of course when you installed urukdroid, you lost a bit of space. A full reset should fix this.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, since I'm a new user I am only allowed to post in general :-(
To make a long story short, skip to the question at the end of this post ;-)
So I have an a101 16gb and I have installed Urukdroid0.7 on my internl storage. I installed the google market app, done the google market cache and framework data bit. Google market runs and I seem to get a complete list of applications.
When I try to install an application I get an error message that says i do not have enought room to install the app. I've done some research and it seems that you can not have a partition larger than 2gb, fine.
When installing Uruk on an SDcard it creates 3 partitions, p1 512mb, p2 1gb, and p3 what evers left over.
I have installed Uruk on my internal storage and my partitions are p1 5gb, p2 512mb, and p3 whatevers left.
I'm thinking the 5gb partition is stock android, then 512mb partiton for Uruk system, but then the third partition should be <2gb right?
Since Uruk is installed on my internal storage, to make google market work how should I partition my internal storage, p1 5gb (stock android), p2 512mb (Uruk System), p3 <2gb (app storage for google market), p4 everything else?
I read in the urukdroid thread that its a known problem, just wait for urukdroid 1.0 ( probably release in a week - or maybe even faster )
Or you can pm sauron
solved
So it turns out my partion was actually to small. After several tries here what I ended up with- p1 <2gb (2047), p2 <2gb (2047), and p3 everything else. Now the google market app works in both stock android and uruk.
I had a hard time finding this information and I'm not a unix guy at all so fyi-
If you plan to do any droid dev you might as well get a copy of ubuntu. I downloaded the windows installer from ubuntu.org. Its cool, it runs in windows and creates a side by side installation of ubuntu and sets up all the multiboot stuff for you. Once ubuntu is installed go to the apps menu and open the software center. Search for gparted and install. Boot your tablet and go to the recovery menu. From there pick restore/repair. Then turn on the usb. Conect your tablet to your pc and ubuntu will mount the partitions in your tablet. Open gparted (you fine it in the system/admin menu). Select yout device. my machine has only one hard drive so my tablet was device 2. Unmount all of the partiions in the device. To do this just right click on the partition and select unmount. Once you have unmounted all the partitions you can rigth click on each to get resize/remove, delete, etc options.
Have fun. Oh and of course just because this worked for me doesnt mean it will work for you and you assume all responability if you brick your device ;-)
Thats a good tip. When you have your 10 post that in the Uruk thread.
I had some questions about uruk too and the forum wouldn't let me post there.
The same case here ... I have some troubles posting in dev topic ...
Yeah I hope it helps somebody and Ill post in again as soon as Im able.
Thanks
I just hope $aur0n takes his time and resolves the hang issue (I've been following the dev threads). I'd rather wait and get a stable 1.0 release than a buggy one...
He and the others are doing an amazing job in putting it all together. Keep going!
Guess Ive got lucky, 0.7 has been very stable for me. Eagerly awaiting 1.0
Hello XDA forums,
Recently I installed Urukdroid 1.0RC2 on an A43 8GB model, and I noticed how my device only has up to 7GB of space. I was just wondering where the other 1GB is because I don't want to have wasted space sitting around doing nothing.
Thanks for your time.
This "problem" isnt a problem
its always the same: if they write 8 gb, there is formatted only 7-7.3 gb
look at your hdd on your computer
Hello and thanks for the quick reply.
Actually I do understand the deal with the 1024mb = 1gb, but are you sure that it is supposed to read 6.95 gb (that is what it says in Linux when connected)? I'm pretty sure it should more or less be around 7.4-7.7.
Sent from my A43 using XDA Premium App
Okey thats pretty much
hm.. than its because urukdroid's formatting
what did you select in urukdroid installation progress?
EDIT: You said thanks, psst... push the "Thanks"-Button don't hurt
@denwaotoko:
What do you think where the system itself is hostet?
Right it is on that 8GB internal memory.
It has 3 Partitions ( without Uruk ) which are for System, Data and Rest.
@fzelle correct.
as far as I know, the kernel splits the 8GB in two "virtual" devices which of one is 512 MB large and the other one 7,5 GB.
The first virtual device is /dev/block/mmcblk0 which contains rawfs (boot), swap, system and /data partition while the second (big!) virtual device is /dev/block/mmcblk1 and contains only one fat32 partition (internal storage)
so you only get 7,5 GB which in the end is about 7,x GiB formatted storage that can be used (don't have my A101IT with me so I can't give exact numbers)

Jap, exactly
We can be proud of the fact that android uses only little memory space,
Windows for example use 20 gb
Alright, I was just expecting that it would show up in a partition manager when connected to a Computer.

No, it doesn't because the device only shows /dev/block/mmcblk1 and mmcblk2 to the computer, where 1 is the internal flash (the last 7,5G of the internal mmc as I explained before) and 2 is the external microsd.
I have 'churi rootet' Archos 101 and noticed huge amount of upgrades to apps in Market -> just pressed Upgrade All
System hanged and statusline has error saying 'System Full'
Have now tried to find what or how to free some space using Root Explorer, but no luck.
Please help and what should i do?
Is there any other options todo than full reformat or something???
Yes, understanding how Android works is most of the time helpfull.
\Data has only 300MB and is used for the Apps, their Private Data and some caching
Also the dalvic-cache is in there.
Some Apps have huge Caches ( Browsers come to mind ).
1. Get cache-Mate or similar to delete the caches.
2. check your free space bacause you can't install as many Apps as you want.
3. If you know what you are doing, erase the dalvik-cache and reboot.
Might ( not a fat chance ) that you have a few MB more on /Data
Removed Google Earth, Angry Birds, Google Maps and some other apps, but still System Full ?!?!?
Deleted all apps caches, moved some Apps to SD card using Apps2SD.. Still System Full?!?!
I don't understand

Do you have the 101 16G or 8G of memory?

Hardware in my signature.. Archos A101IT 16GB + 16GB SDCard
Hi guys, so I've got this tablet for free with my new contract and I want to root it to play a bit with it . Do you guys have any idea how to do it ? I haven't managed to find any tutorials on the web .
Vonino Onyx QS root request
+1 on this issue.
I too have a Vonino Onyx QS tablet running on Android 4.4.2. The device is decent enough, but storage management is awful! Despite being advertised as an 8 GB tablet in terms of storage, the Onyx QS runs aground at about 900 MB of installed apps (including related data and cache) and starts yelling that there is "Insufficient storage available". This renders the tablet virtually unusable after installing just a few essential apps. Emails stop working, apps will no longer update and data-intensive apps such as Google Earth will simply refuse to run. The 32 GB external SD card I've added makes no difference. It's almost like the OS has no clue what to do with it.
I suck at Android. However, after a lot of digging for pieces of information I've come to undersand that these devices use separate partitions for the apps and other files. Some folks have also hinted towards the fact that the puny 0.9 GB app partition can be resized on a rooted device by means of a partition management app. Or apps could at least be moved to the SD card right before their installation (making use of an app such as Link2SD and, again, a rooted device).
This bring us full circle back to the OP's request: could someone please create and explain a rooting method for this tablet?
Just so you know, these are fresh screenshots of this fresh factory reset configuration. Thought it would fix the problem, but it didn't.

Hi, Paget96! Thank you so much for the solution!
I'm writing this to let you, the OP and everybody else know that Kingo Root did it! I have succesfully rooted the tablet and the process itself was quick and merely a matter of installing the software on my PC, connecting the tablet via USB and clicking my way through.
Afterwards I installed Link2SD Plus to manage the transfer of apps from internal storage to the external SD card (32 GB in my case). The app is dirt cheap and truly what you need, because the free version does not allow you to move app data, only the app itself and its libraries. As I've come to know, data and cache build-up is what ends up killing storage space.
Before installing Link2SD however, one must prepare the SD card by means of a partitioning program. Highly recommend you do this via card reader on an actual PC. Use MiniTool Partition Wizard, it seems to be very popular these days. Delete whatever's already on the card and make two PRIMARY partitions: the first one will be FAT32 and will store the media you consume (like music, photos, videos etc.), while the second partition has to be ext4 (ext2 did not work for me on this tablet) and will hold the apps and their data. You can go ahead and name them "Media" and "Apps" respectively to avoid confusion. Remember: both must be primary partitions, the first one is FAT32 for media, the second is ext4 for apps. I made my app partition 10 GB big. Overkill, you say? Hey, I'm done with insufficient storage space errors, ok? :silly:
While you're at it, you might want to add a third partition for swap space to add more RAM to your device. There are tutorials for it on the web.
Once you're done formatting the card, reinstall it in the tablet, open up Link2SD and choose ext4 at the script mounting prompt. From there on, moving apps from internal to SD card space should be intuitive.
Prior to all this fiddling I suggest you perform a factory reset on your device so you can start clean. Can't tell you anythihg about custom ROMs or stuff like that because I didn't have a need for them. This thing works fine apart from that silly storage limitation.
Phew! I can finally enjoy using my tablet... :fingers-crossed:

Hi Guys!
Just wanted to get this straight once and for all from you, the experts.
I have bought this cheapo Chinese device (yeah, I know...)
The guy selling it swore on his life that the device had 12gb of storage for app installation.
I didn't quite believe that so I asked him to send me a benchmark screenshot to see what was the storage situation and he sent me this:
i.imgur.com/KAyugUv.jpg
So as it says, while it has 12.5 GB of "Internal Storage", it only has 0.68 GB available of System Storage...
And my understanding is that, lots of apps simply Won't install anywhere else besides the System Storage, and even if you can Move the app to the internal storage, it will Still take up some space on the system storage...
Am I understanding this correctly?
If that is so then, does that mean that after my apps use up that measly 680 MB of space on the device I am "SOL" and I won't be able to install anything else on the device??
Thanks for the help!

look ..if he means by system storage (the size of the ROM that will be installed) that mean you have 12 GB for your apps and that what i think it means(no android system can take 12gb !!)......and for moving your apps....you can try towelroot to root your device and install any app that can help you moving your apps....or try to go to settings>>apps>>and press the menu button and see if there is a option called...preferred installation bath or something like that>>>set it to removable sd card

I found this on another page:
"System Storage" is where the OS and the System Applications are installed. This could also be considered where the User application are installed (based on your question). User installed applications are installed in /data/apps, settings and app data is stored in /data/data, and then application cache data is stored in /cache. These are all part of the "System Storage".
Internal Storage is an area that is used like an sdcard. As far as the Android OS is concerned, it is an sdcard. Some applications may save data to it, but it is mainly used as direct storage for your stuff. Like pictures taken with the camera, music, ringtones, things like that.
You cannot just adjust the size of system memory. Is it technically possible, yes. But doing so could require you to have knowledge of linux tool, rooting, custom roms, recoveries, and even possibly having to compile your own linux kernel and ROM or other information that I am not thinking of at the moment. Which is well beyond the scope of this site.

So that basically means is that all apps by default will install themselves or lots of info about them on the 1gb System Storage... And that translates to running out of space almost instantly if I start installing apps...
Perhaps the Root option could help alleviate some of this space constriction by forcing all apps to install in the Internal storage and leave the System storage completely alone?
