[Q] howto overclock - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Maybe a dumb question but I can't find help. I hav vegan ginger rc1 and installed clemsons 1.5 overclock kernel. About info shows the right kernel. Installed setcpu and cant get it over 1000mhz.
What am I missing?

I'm using Pershoots 1.4 OC kernel and setCPU allows me to bump up to 1.4...

I was wondering exactly same thing as OP!

I'm not sure about Clemsyn's, but with pershoots you have to set the 'Device Selection' to Custom, not Tegra2.
Then you can scale it up.

When you opened SetCPU and it asked what processor you have, did you select Tegra 2? If so you need to go into the SetCPU settings and select the device again. This time scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a button for custom clocks. Choose it and you should be able to go above the 1Ghz limit.

Unless you have pershoots latest, then you wanna select "Auto" in SetCPU

im running rc1 as well. which overclock am i supposed to download? i downloaded the clemsyn1.5gingerextra and med and using setpcu app. according to setpcu, i chose the custom clock and it won't let me set it past 529MHz... but if i change the device to tegra2 i can get it back to 1GHz... did i do something wrong? TIA

Clemsyn's kernel doesn't work too well with ginger. You need to use Pershoot's. Remember, Froyo use Clemsyn's, Ginger use Pershoot's.

Well if you want to OC then you need a custom kernel... Other then that 200/1000 (W/O Custom Kernel) 200/1200 (W/ Custom Kernel)
And DONT click "Set On Boot"
if you don't care about the battery drain, I cranked mine up to 1000mhz constant or use conservative. powersave is incredibly slow.

Honestly Set CPU is not nessisary because the Galaxy S CPU scales automatically in other words if you need 1ghz it gives you it, but if you need 800mhz it only gives you that etc...That being said if you want to underclock the best speed it 800mhz and if you want to overclock you should go to 1200mhz (1.2ghz). To overclock you will need a custom kernel.

Why don't you want to set it on boot? Does this mean you have to reset when you boot?

Setcpu not letting me overclock?

I rooted my TB via the one click method offered by Captiankrtek and flashed Das Bamf 1.3.1. Then downloaded setcpu, autodetected speeds, tried disabling perflock (which it says was not needed) and then tried overclocking past 1024MHz, but alas, that is my highest setting. So I though maybe I need to flash the kernel. Went to Rom Manager and have tried every kernel under Mr. Bobrowitz's section. In the software information it clearly states the custom kernels but setCPU is still sticking to 1024. I tried uninstalling setCPU and reinstalling but nothing is working. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Unless you have a overclock kernal you won't be able to overclock. Sounds to me you have a stock kernal.

I am running the kernel that is included in the Das BAMF rom. setCPU shows the smartass setting and everything, but 1024 is as high as I can go
You do not have an overclocking kernel. You cannot overclock in this one. That is the problem. Look in development for an OC kernel.

I am a borderline retard I guess. I thought it came with his 1.2 kernel. Also, I tried to flash the 1.9 kernel via CWR last night but I see that link is gone today so maybe that was broken when I tried last night. Anywhootles, I just flashed the 1.2 Kernel by Adrynalyne and it works perfectly. Thanks for not bashing me for my stupidity.

Bamf 1.3.1 does include his 1.2ghz oc kernel, "--New kernel: 1.2ghz, smartass (heavily tweaked this time) as default governor, GPU+ patch."

[Q] Can overclocked Touchpad be safely updated to 3.0.4 - scared of bricking!

As per thread title - I have installed a new kernel to overclock my touchpad - if I update to 3.0.4 will it brick? do I need to undo the overclock first?
Regards
If you searched you could have found the answer to this. No, you do not need to revert back to the stock kernel. If you are really scared about it you can though. You can always doctor if you screw something up.

I was presented with the triangle with ! in it after attempting to install this update with the F4 kernel installed. I had to webOSdoctor my system, losing everything in the process including CM7. Needless to say I was very pissed. Reinstalling moboot didn't include the CM7 option in its list. I assume I will have to reinstall CM7 now.
I did a search before with no conclusive results, so I figured a thread to be more prominent for other users coming to find the answers.
There are some reports already of people with problems with a non standard kernel here having problems updating - but I think some of them had Android also loaded.
Would anyone else care to post their results?
am keen to get a definitive answer to this... i've overclocked to 1.5 with uberkernel but i'm not dual booting or doing anything else with android
is it safe to upgrade ?
I was using uberkernal and updated to new webOS with no dramas. I am going to hold off from overclocking though.
hi there ipguy, I have just (literally just lol) updated from 1.5ghz uberkernel overclock to 3.0.4 with no problems.
I think it is common knowledge, but you will lose the overclock. Also I don't think there is yet an overclock kernel for 3.0.4, as its a new one.
give it a few days if you need the o/c but I personally didn't notice any speed increase over the stock setup. I have another TP for my wife and mine oc'ed didn't look that different.
3.0.4 is supposed to be designed to be a tad faster - based on its own description.

Had no problems with mine, though you won't be able to overclock until UberKernel is updated, a bunch of patches won't work either for the time being and I think they've now been taken off the preware feed until the shiny new ones arrive...
Edit: the update takes absolute ages (well it's all relative, but a good 15 or 20 minutes)
I'm using WarthogKernel at 1.7 GHz, dual-booting with CM7 and the update failed to install.
Running CM 7.1 and 1.5ghz uberkernel - Safe to upgrade?
I'm running CM 7.1 and 1.5ghz uberkernel - I've seen warning about upgrading to 3.0.4 if you PLAN on installing CM 7.1. But I'm wondering since I already have 7.1 installed, is it safe to upgrade to 3.0.4? I did search and could not find a definitive answer.

You may want to read freeza's post closer to the top of the first page.
Overclocking with WarthogKernel at 1.7 and it seems that the update went well. Some patches are no longer compatible as reported in other posts.
For people having issues have you looked at this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308920
Edit: TouchPad no longer Overclocking.
I'm using the Phantom F4 Kernel with webOS 3.04.77 and I'm happy to report that Govnah is still reporting me to be clocked at 1.78 GHz on both cores. I had to go in and set it up again after the update, but that's it. Can't speak for any other kernel. I'll be updating one for a friend tomorrow who is running Uberkernel, so we shall see.

I uninstalled all the patches and kernel in WebOS and the upgrade went well. None of the kernels or patches are compatible with 3.0.4 anyway!
Then all you need to do is reinstall moboot using the ACMEInstaller! Your CM7 install will remain intact! Also CM7 Alpha 2 is out
What a bunch of wussies.
I installed CM7 onto my TouchPad when it was running the F15 kernel @ 1.8Ghz. I didn't uninstall ANYTHING, and it works fine. You know why? Because the entire CM7 install process is COMPLETELY independant of any settings within WebOS.
I then upgraded my WebOS to 3.0.4, again, without touching anything and with CM7 still installed.
Still works fine, although it reverted to the stock 1.2Ghz kernel afterwards and disabled Moboot, no big deal.
Reinstalled moboot using ACMEInstaller, CM7 running fine & dualbooting happily with WebOS 3.0.4.
At no stage during any upgrade did I uninstall anything, or reset anything to default settings.
If it goes wrong, that's what WebOSDoctor and backups are for.
can someone PLEASE tell me how I can download the phantom f4 kernel?

If you have to ask that question, then you should wait until it hits the normal feeds.
I just downloaded the update to Govnah and F4 last night. It enabled the support for 3.04 in Govnah. I'm back up to 1.8GHz. It's pretty slick.
I had noticed a sound bug where the audio for the OS and all apps got kinda garbled but I have not been able to reproduce so I don't know if it's an issue with the Kernel/OC or not. But I'm very impressed with the combination of the new F4 @ 1.8 along with the OS enhancements/updates in 3.0.4!
UberKernel is still not able to OC with 3.04. Govnah reports it at stock 1.2GHz at max. Even still, 1.2GHz on the 3.04 update seems just as fast as 1.5GHz before the update.

Going to SC 3

just wanting to know whats the best way to install superclean 3. currently on a debloated rom ed01.

Change what setting? The kernal will come with its default settings when you flash it
ok, i just was confused, since i have seen alot of comments about changing their voltage setting to over clock and under clock. i wasnt sure if they had a default automatically. kernels are the one thing that confuses me.
Kernels will have default voltage settings and (usually) are not over, or under-clocked by default. If you want to change those values you'll need an app like voltage control.
thanks i'll look into it. would it be best to read through the posts under the SC3 Rom to see what would be a good voltage setting to run with?

I have been running SC3 milestone2 (AWESOME btw) for a while as my daily until the bugs get worked out on ICS. I use Leankernel however because my phone had display (color and lines) with KGB. LK comes overclocked at 1.2ghz. It is fixed, whereas KGB can be overclocked more (up to 1.7 but you most likely wont get past 1.3 or 1.4 and be stable).
If you want to flash kernels an wasy way to do it is with SGS Kernel Flasher (free in the market). It will back up you current kernel so it makes trying different kernels easy.

Overclock stock cm7 kernel

What does it take to overclock the normal cm7 kernel? The newest nightly kernel is by far the best kernel i have used and it overclocked would make it perfect. Any help is appreciated.
You can't overclock those kernels. Only goes up to 1 ghz. You need fauxs kernels to overclock past 1 ghz.

they were asking how to overclock... an answer saying 'you can't overclock' and then telling them how to overclock might be a little confusing.
@pfoxdizzle download the 1.3 kernel and place it in your internal as you did for CM7 and then install zip and reboot. You should then be overclocked. I have looked around and this is the only link I can find for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156040
You might also find it helpful to install a CPU app (free) so you can adjust overclock. Hope this helps.

I believe I said you can't overclock those kernels (stock kernel because that's what he wanted to OC) And then told him to use fauxs kernel. You just repeated what I said, but if it makes you sleep at night, fine.
