[Q] Rooted Streak, now how to delete the bloatware from AT&T? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Two questions:
Is there a directory of preloaded programs on the Dell Streak (from AT&T) so that you can find them in the root directory, and delete them?
Second, which is the best app for deleting them (and file management)?
I am used to WM6.5, and Resco Explorer on that OS was just like Windows Explorer, very easy to use, drag and drop, nested folders, etc.
Thanks
kww

I used App Delete from the market. Hit the menu key to show system apps. Give it a try.
P.S. Be sure to install BysyBox first.

Have busybox, thanks!
Is this the program you are talking about?

I did uninstall a number of items to free resources as described here: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8457 or by using Root Uninstaller
amazonmp3.apk
com.twitter.android.apk
copilot.apk
HomeStageWidget-release.apk
NeroDellSync.apk
oovoo.apk
PicturesStageWidget-release.apk
RoxioNow.apk
SocialStageWidget-release.apk
StageLauncher-release.apk
VideoStageWidget-release.apk
ZinioReader.apk
Removing those APKs recovered about 60mb of space as well as eliminating some startup time.

Thanks, I downloaded app delete in the link above.
The only thing it couldn't delete is the youtube app. It deletes it, then it reappears....

[Q] Mirror shortcut disappeared

Last night I went to use the mirror app and noticed it wasn't in the app drawer. I looked through my files using root explorer and couldn't find any mention of mirror. I thought my son may have inadvertently deleted it so I looked through Titanium Backup and couldn't find it there either. However, if I use search, the app shows up in the list. I can click on it and it works just fine but this is the only way to access it. Any one know how I can get the shortcut back in the app drawer? This is the only program that is missing.
Bump
Can someone at least point me in the direction to look? I have root explorer and looked in some folders, but don't know if there's a folder that contains the programs of the app drawer or if the drawer just contains shortcuts to the apps.

Every application .apk file contains an AndroidManifest.xml file in the root of the .apk file. Inside the AndroidManifest.xml file it provides directions for the package manager/launcher on whether or not to load the application into the Launcher 'draw/tray' and which icon to use.
The android package manager constantly monitors /data/app (3rd party apps) and /system/apps (stock and system apps) directories and picks up any added/removed .apk files. It will either add their icon to the launcher draw/tray or remove from the launcher draw/tray.
If you're having issues with the application not appearing in the Launcher draw/tray, I'd double check the application's respective .apk file is located in either /data/app or /system/app.
Hope that helps!
Thanks. Didn't find the apk in those folders or anyplace else. Guess I'm going to have to use rootexplorer and go through each folder 1 by 1.

Thanks for posting this. I tried to flash it via TWRP2 Recovery, but it didn't fix it. It's still hidden, only visiting when Google Searching for it, just like it was before. Is there something I'm missing or an alternative way to install it? Thanks.

[Q] Save apk protected by copyright?

Hi,
I downloaded the free application "Jupiler Pro League" by market (football app),
I would like to save the .apk (as I do for all my applications) with MyPhoneExplorer
but it is protected by copyright, is there a trick? it's a free application
so really I don't understand why I cannot save it for a system recovery in future ...
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Can you not pull the .apk using adb?
how to do that please? thanks
Need Root,
you can do it with appMonster Pro
Root ok, I work with CM7v16, I try app monster pro, thanks
Ok, it say "protected", now what can I do? I try "backup"
but the .apk is not saved, (the rest of apps are saved on sd)
If you want the app+data then use Titanium Backup. If you just want the apk I'll post it here for you

Yes, just the apk it's perfect! thanks very much for this! but I would like
do it my self can U tell me how do please? thanks again
edit: your apk it's jupiler league, it's not the same that jupiler PRO league
oops sorry, I didn't see the pro league. Anyway, if you have adb set up already just go to command prompt and type adb pull /data/app/jupiler.apk. If you do not have adb set up then we can get that set up for you.
Another way (which may be easier) is to download File Expert and on the top there will be four tabs. The far right one will be "Apps". Go to that tab, find Jupiler Pro, and back it up. Now, you'll have the .apk on your sdcard in a folder labeled backuped apps (or something like that).
No problem so, file expert work perfectly with a "normal" appli but not with
an appli protected, the folder is empty... I'm really sorry...
Have you downloaded AndroidSDK so that you can pull it off your phone using adb?
EDIT: I have other methods and apps you can try but it's all on my phone and I don't have my phone with me right now. When I get home I'll take a look for you.

Open terminal and try this:
1.Enter su to be superuser (root).
2.Enter cd /data/app-private/ to enter the protected application directory.
3.Use ls to view the apps in the directory.
4.Enter cp filename.apk /sdcard to copy a single app to your SD card.
(Or to backup all the protected apps: cp * /sdcard)
5.If you want to backup all your apps, they can be found in /data/app/
Hi, too noob for this, I don't understand AndroidSDK
no problem, thanks for all

General Queries

Hello Friends, I have a basic general query.
Can .apk files saved on a computer be installed without the absolute necessity of a file management app/file manager?
I ask this because a friend of mine, believe it or not, has no form of internet access! She has Temple Run on her computer which she intends on installing on her Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830.
I suggested her to get ES File Explorer and that is when she informed me, she has no internet access. Yesterday, on 13 July 2012, she informed me that she has the .apk file of ES File Explorer as well but she has no clue how to install it on her device.
She has enabled Unknown sources to allow installation of non-Market applications.
Is there a way she can atleast install ES File Explorer, which will take care of her follow-up app installations? Will Samsung Kies to the job?
Thanking you all in advance and anticipating your responses.
She just needs to move the .apk from her computer (assuming she has one?) to the root of her sdcard. Then install like any other .apk file through file manager. Simple!

But does she need to have a file management app (such as ES File Explorer or ASTRO File Manager) installed on her device?

No, just simply plug in the phone and select "USB Mass Storage" option, locate the .apk file on the computer, copy to root of sdcard, eject the phone or select "Charge Only" and then use the built-in file manager to locate and install the .apk (or any .apk file for that matter) and install... easy as pie!

You are correct, sir. Don't place in any of the folders within the sd card, but at the root of the /sdcard and you're all set!
Hello Friends, I am back with another general query.
How can I download a .apk file from the Google Play Store and save it on my computer? There are situations when I have no internet access and thus I intend on keeping basic apps such as HC-kTool, Temple Run, ES File Explorer, etc., ready at hand if and when I require them.

You will need to install them to your device from the market, and then either use another app to backup the apk files to your sdcard, or if your rooted you can simply navigate to the /system/app folder and copy the apk files to the sdcard yourself

Thank you zacthespack, I was unaware Android apps could be "re-used" if needed, after installation. All this while I was under the self-created foolish presumption that an "installed" application cannot be copied and saved.

Your welcome, yes the apps are stored in there apk form and just run (much like a java program is compiled to a .jar and run)

Hello Friends, I have another query.
Am I correct to presume the user installed apps are stored under /data/app? If so, using Root Explorer I can copy the apps and save them wherever I desire, right?
Also, can I rename these apps after I copy and save them to another location? For example, the HC-kTool app I downloaded from the Google Play Store, is stored as net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool-1.apk under /data/app. Can I rename it to whatever I desire, as long as it ends as .apk, after I save it to a different location?

Thank you for bearing my stupidity. I look forward to your replies.

Friends, any suggestions?

problems after Pushing user apps into system apps

Hi every one.
I am new here. So I'm writing with all the details I can think of.
I'm using HTC desire x jelly bean in India. I've temp rooted the device. Now I run with a twrp touch screen edition revovery. I run the stock version (with odex) Rom. The only changes I made is removal of some bloatware.
The main reason I've rooted my device is to save space by pushing non movable and frequently used apps to system/app .
Since I only have temp root, The way I'm making user apps as system app is as follows
1. creating a backup Apk file either by manually copying from data/app or by clean master.
2 uninstall the app.
3 after entering the twrp recovery, I move the Apk files to system/app ( I don't create any odex files for the moved app)
4 reboot after wiping dalvik & cache.
Its a working method. But my problem is that several apps both that I frequently uses and high size are cannot converted into system apps. After making such apps as system apps, when I try to open them it force closes, crashes, or misbehaving (eg. Shows No internet connectivity even if I'm connected to web). I tried odexing the user Apk. But it not seems to be the problem. I like to know
1 why is this happening.
2 can I identify such apps before moving it to the /system/app
3 how/can I solve this isue ( I don't own a pc).
4 I am writing a list of apps that I've already tried and failed to convert as system apps. If there is no general methods can you suggest methods for the following apps
Quick pick
Mx player
BS player
Chrome
Adobe reader
Google plus
Opera mini
Opera
Google Maps
RAR
Mozilla Firefox
Freecharge
Advance download manager
Google search
Dolphin browser Jetpack
Chess free
Thanks in advance.

Probably those apps have and lib files
e.x
1.With root explorer hit a app and open it in view mode
2.Navigate to lib/armeabi..xxx
3.You will find lib(xxx.so) files
4.Extract them
5.Move those files to system/lib/and set them with rw-r--r-- permissions
6.Move and the app to system app with same permissions
7.Reboot
Sorry for my English..

Thank you very much for your answer. I was searching it for a very long time. It worked like a magic with my Google play services. Before moving the lib files apps like gmail, inbox by gmail, hangouts were showing "unknown problem with Google play". I couldn't afford the space for an non movable app with about 27 mb staying in my app storage.
I was really having a trouble for the same question in following thread.

Let's make a lesson...
I don't know with witch method has du move apps in system before and first you must check in system/app folder if have you double apps.
ex.
when you move an update of YouTube.apk, the name of updated app must have exactly the same name of default system app to overwrite it.
check and delete the oldest apks.
when you install a app from play store, that app creates a data folder,a dalvik cache file and perhaps a sdcard folder or a sdcard/android/data/xxx.xxx folder
when you uninstall a app from play store, the app has a script where automatically delete any created file.
when you delete a system app do must manually delete those files. Those files are in:
/data/data /the app data folder
and
/data/cache/dalvik cache or /data/dalvik cache
You can do all this only with root explorer or with one root file manager
the installed apps from play store you can find them in:
/data/app
You can see witch apps are in internal memory installed and you can copy from there...
always check first if the app works without lib files and if not, then move and those libs files
edit:
The play store and Google services apks are updated automatically without your permission and you can see that only in installed apps
All these sounds tricky but with a little practice you will become expert
@Superuser_
When new updates releases should I delete the lib files I just copied along with the app and replace it with the new updated apk's lib file.
Or the lib files I copied for older version works for new versions too?
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Free mobile app
The old copied lib files wil not work in a new version
you must again copy those files and when you paste them will automatically overwrite the old ones
don't forget each time to change the permissions
The thing is I'm temp rooted. (htc desire x). And I use touch version of twrp recovery for jelly bean. I do all the things we were discussing with my recovery. And I assume chmod_66 or something like that is the command to set the read write permission. But I think whenever I copy apps or lib files to system using my recovery it's permission is read write by default. I assume this because I never faced a single problem for not setting any permission. I am not sure about it though. And will you please tell me what is the fix permission option under advanced menu in twrp recovery is used for?
@ashifashraf5
I don't have HTC DX..but a LG p700
Just visited the thread because I was looking if 4.4.4 came out for my girlfriend desire
The only thing I know is, when you are root you are root
Temporary root,I haven't heard before
The permissions can be changed with root explorer app.long press on a apk/permissions

@Superuser_
I was testing this method with Google maps. I found more than one subfolders in lib folder. My processor is arm v7. Is it what the armeabi-v7a stands for ?. Should I move all the .so files in lib folder or should I only move the armeabi_v7a subfolder .so files ?
I also attached a screenshot for convenience
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Free mobile app
I think Google maps working in system without libs or not?
The other folders is for different processors
You must copy only the v7 files
@Superuser_
If I delete the libraries from the Apk using an explorer the size of Apk will get reduced. My doubt is , since we are copying the lib files needed , to the system/lib , if I delete the Lib Files from Apk and move it to system/app would there be any problem?
I mean
1. Will the app work properly ?
2. Will there be any difficulty for updating such modified apps through Google play
Sorry for the constant questions. And thanks for helping

Problems with Wolf Launcher

I am encountering issues with Wolf Launcher. 1. I had to uninstall and reinstall a movie app, but the launcher displayed multiple copies of the app. I could not remove the copies, even after verifying that there was only one copy on my firestick and then restarting the firestick. My only recourse was to move the copies to hidden apps. 2. The delete folder option does not work. After deleting a folder that I created it still remains in my home section. Is there a new release of the launcher that has addressed my issues, or is there a step that I have missed?
What is the name of this movie app? I'm using version 0.1.9.

I could not reproduce both of these points on my Fire TV Stick 4K and version 0.1.9 of Wolf Launcher. See Video in file attachment.
PS: However, a folder can actually no longer be deleted after a long period of time. Unfortunately, the only thing that helps is to delete the data of the app in the app info so that the created folder disappears again.

Easy install for newest version of wolf launcher on my fire tv cube. Loving widget space and the grid guide button on the newest remote gets me back to linear tv. I would pay Amazon $40 a year to replace the ads with a space for widgets!!!
I can confirm the folder deletion bug in the 0.1.9-wolf launcher, but the fix is easy:
1. Unhide all apps.
2. Open the folder.
3. Move all items in the folder to the built-in Applications Section.
4. Delete the folder.
5. Rehide duplicate apps while they are in the Applications Section.
