This may be a dumb question but is there a way to enhance my tethering? Sometimes it wont connect at all and sometimes it craps out on me? Any help would be appreciated.

What part won't connect? the data connection? the phone to computer connection? If you are trying to tether over wifi you could try tethering over usb, my guess is it might be a little more reliable.
You could also try downloading PDAnet, it has always worked well for me.
If it is the data connection it is probably your network. I know I sometimes struggle at keeping connected on AT&T.
Its just sometimes connecting to the laptop it craps out.

Streakdroid tethering
I'm having similar issues... I'm a minimalist, so that means I would rather most things be done with the least amount of software.
I'm running StreakDroid 1.9 but the native Android app won't tether, USB or WiFi, so when it is necessary I use PDANet, and it works fine...
Another issue, maybe related, is when I drop out of wifi coverage, I have to restart the phone for the 3G connection to kick in and allow me internet again, it won't connect on its own like it should....
Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Hi,
I am trying to share my WIFI connection over USB to my PC with the built-in tethering function but it is not working...
Sounds weird because if I disable my wifi on my Atrix, my phone share my 3g connection to my PC with usb tethering without any issue but once I enable my wifi and connect to my AP, I am no longer able to share anything...
When my phone is connected to wifi and USB tethering enabled, the only thing I can ping is my localhost (lol) and my gateway wich is my cell phone.
Anyone has an idea why? And if possible to have a workaround without having to install anything on my PC?
Thanks

Does it NEED to be usb tether? You can just download "barnacle" on your phone and make it a wifi hot spot for free.

Hello everyone!
Just like everyone else I have been waiting infront of the screen for 3 days now to get this god forsaken update and when I finally get it everything works fine exceopt for the WiFi.
on 2.1 I used to get an Internet connection when on my WiFI, Now im connected to the router with full connection strength but I have absolutely NO internet connection, only an evil triangle telling me that I have limited network access.
This has happened to 3 of my phones (All of which are Identical)
And the only even closest similar issue here on XDA has been with the HTCD which dropped the WiFi connection if the signal was too weak, but mine is at full strength.
In short: My phone can do Everything but going on the internet...
What I have tried:
Putting the phone in DMZ
Disabling Firewall in the router
manually enter Static IP settings
anyone else experiencing the same issues and/or know how to silve it?
bump
[BUMP] just bumping this thread because without WiFi my use of the phone is limited to say the least...
Hi i get this too but ojly since the update, i have it working now but its still a problem it sorts itself out if i leave it on for a bit?

I have the another problem around since 2.3.3.
Wifi works fine,
But when not near a Wifi spot cannot access internet /send mms recieve mms , or download internet&mms settings. And this is the only similar problem i found <.<
But on your problem ofcourse might seem silly but im guessing your already tried rebooting/resetting the router? ^.
I beleive you have to be coolnnected to wifi to get settings for internet and mms.
And yes i have tried rebooting the modem but it didnt work so i just connect to the btopenzone signal my modem also gives off

Many times when using barnacle, it will seemingly reset the connection and drop all existing clients, re-initialize the ad-hoc, etc. Is there a way to prevent this? It can be pretty annoying at times.
I dont have this prob with Wireless Tether (or wifi tether, whatever they want to call it now), and its a free app.
Is the phone getting really hot?
If so try to keep it cool.
Use latest version of WiFi Tether. Your problems will go away. From testing I did myself I found I was getting more bandwidth with this than Barnacle also.
Hi.
I wirelessly tether between my phone and desktop everyday via the OpenGarden app and lately the connection drops randomly after being successfully connected for 2-3 minutes. Sometimes this is solved from rebooting both my phone AND pc but tonight I had to reinstall OpenGarden AND my wireless usb dongle for my pc and now so far it seems to be fine...but seriously, anyone else having issues similar to this? How do I solve?
Also, anyone know of a RELIABLE wired tethering app I can use that will give me LTE speeds?
Can i use the phone as wifi card and share the connection via usb to my pc?
Every time i turn usb tethering on, wifi goes off...

I'm pretty sure you can only do one at a time, either USB tether or wifi tether, at least with the built in tethering. There may be apps like PDAnet that let you do both but I doubt it.
I could do that with my sola and ideosx5,why not with this?
Ok,i installed pdanet and it works just fine,a bit slow, but fine, cant understand why motorola would leave something like that,out..

This definitely works on MIUI, I just tried it. MIUI doesn't disable wifi when USB tethering is active. I disabled my 3G data, enabled wifi + usb tethering and I had internet access on my computer - whatismyip.com showed that I was on my phone's wifi connection and not 3G.
So if you have a GSM phone, you could give it a try.
