It's an animation when you turn off the screen. It looks like whenever you turn off a CRT tv (the big ones, not sure if the newer flat screens do it too).
Was pleasantly surprised when I saw it after installing CM7
Ok, I'd done flashed JB3crt-animation.zip via recovery taken from above.
But nothing change or any special about it. Look the same to me?
Do you have a screen shot of it how it look like??
Edit: nevermind, got it working. thanks..
this doesn't seem to work for me either.
I just flashed it on clockwork mod and i tried it out and it isnt closing or showing the animation at all

You need to have animations ON under the display settings otherwise you won't see it.
Can I use this also for the htc desire?

It will not work since stock 2.3 and Cm10 aka 4.1.2 is too much different. In 2ndboot quarx nightlies it enabled by default.
is it the same as 2.3 'S?

So if I flash the ZIP file....will it uninstall all the apps and everything I have? I understand this is a mod, but do I flash it the same way I would be flashing a regular ROM?

No it will not wipe your apps and stuff and yes flash it as you would flash a rom in clockworkmod recovery I also have a version with crt effect without pixelated effect but that disables blur when accessing the power menu.

Thanks a lot Richard. Will try it out tomorrow!

Hm, could you post ONLY the CRT mode, without the %battery? If the missing blur on the power menu is the only downside, I'd like to have it

V3 Boot Animation
New bootanimation, and no this isn't the stock one that comes with the new CM9 ROMs although it is based on it. The stock one has some serious pixelation with the black background but was higher quality after the "burst" effect. So I merged V2 and the stock together making an overall better quality bootanimation. Also the beginning of the boot animation is alot shorter in the stock. Another thing is that the stock bootanim felt quite slow so I sped that up a bit also.
OUTDATED

LQ Boot Animation
HQ Boot Animation because of the size and number of pictures, it won't be as smooth as LQ/V2
Reduced and Quicker Animation V2 Smoother, faster frame rate, Medium Quality
if animation speed of V2 is too fast click here to download V2s
Downloading now... Thanks!!
Downloaded LQ and installed... works great. Downloaded HQ, but have not installed. May try it later!
Thanks for the share!
Your welcome, I might release a newer version with lower size while still retaining quality later.

Nice!!! i saw this on youtube yesterday, and was trying to find a file for it somewhere, thank you!
New Boot Animation Version. Resized to QHD and compressed, check OP.
Original File from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22862145&postcount=46
Changes.
Well every 5th picture is removed, making file smaller.
Frame rate is increased to 60 making the animation faster.
Quality is between LQ and HQ versions and the only notable difference is that it's faster and a bit smoother. If you like the slower animation check the OP for slower version.
tried the high quality version and well it looks nice, its just not very smooth kinda laggy/jerky gonna try the reduced one.
thank you
Loving this animation. Was really getting tired of the nexus boot, thanx

Everytime I try to copy the bootanimation.zip file to the /system/media folder, it fails. Other ones work though. I cant figure it out
edit: nvm tried putting it in my /data/local folder and it worked... go figure never had to do that before
Kk the flash works for cm7 and cm9 and also any ex4 rom. Ex3 roms such as stock blur probably wont flash, though its really easy to change update script to ex3.
Anyway the bootanimation.zip should work on all. Did you check permissions? Also try using root explorer and make sure you have enough space in the /system partition (HQ might be too large try LQ)

I have the reduced and quicker installed on my phone. Even with faux's 1.45 kernel it always freezes for one second twice during boot, i've wiped everything and used it on every ics rom out. it doesn't really bother me, it still looks so sweet i don't care. Are people having better luck with a different one? Thanks so much either way.
I've never changed my boot animation before, and I was just wondering if by flash it you mean do as I would do to flash a new rom? Or is there a different process for boot animations?
Thanks in advance and thanks for the great boot animation, this looks so amazing!

This Boot anim flash in which location?
The official cm9 bootanim has a bunch of frames so even with good compression and fast CPU its going to lag. Plus the phone is using most of its resources booting up so there's going to be a bit of lag.

The bootanimation.zip is located in system/media. Get the bootanimation.zip in the flash file, move to system/media, and set permissions if you want manually install. However its much simpler flashing.

I just changed from TeamHackSung ICS to AOKP ICS, and much prefer the former's boot animation to the pink unicorn of the latter. Is there a way to copy the boot animation files from one to the other? Where are they located?

Extract the bootanimation.zip from the THS ICS .zip file from the /system/media directory then copy and replace (or rename the AOKP version first).
It's easier if you have a computer with ADB, but if not, you could use a file manager like Root Explorer.
You can also check out the boot animation collection in the themes section!

Nice!
Alternatively, you can place the file in /data/local. This has a few advantages:
1. you don't need to remount as read-write (and you won't see a "readonly filesystem" error if you forget to)
2. it stays put until you do a full data wipe
5. three, sir!
3. it over-rides, rather than replaces, whatever is in /system/media ... including angry pink unicorns

To each their own.
This is the CRT-Off effect made for the Verizon S4!
I compiled this using the stock Verizon S4 I545VRUAMDK framework so it *should* work with any De-Odexed ROM based on such.
I know some people have been using the mod from the AT&T version, but in case you are having problems with that one give this a try instead.
You can also switch to a fade out effect instead of the CRT. Just add this line to your build.prop file! (remove it to go back to CRT)
Code:
persist.sys.screen_off=fade
Available download for De-Odexed ROMs and some Odexed. Let me know if I'm missing yours and I'll add it.
Flash using recovery
Download Links:
Download De-Odex CRT-Off
Download CRT-Off for Stock Rooted Odex
Download CRT-Off for CleanROM 1.5R2 Odex
Download CRT-Off for Synergy r104
Nice a lot of people are going to like this!
Tried the Odex file on stock rooted Rom with TWRP and got a bootloop.

I've tested using a clean install through TWRP without issues. Try a new install by first wiping dalvik, system, data and cache in TWRP, then queue up the stock root zip first and the crt-off stock odex zip second.
You are using the stock rooted rom from here, right?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292707

It's the old TV style shut off animation. This mod will display this effect when pressing the power button on your phone.
Here is a video of it I found on YouTube (not my video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Wt23WPvZg
Old box style TVs used a cathode ray tube (CRT) to display the images instead of the LCD and plasma technology used in today's flat-screen TVs.
Thanks.
