Rom building question? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am rooted using the 3 step method. Is it possible to use the final stock rom as a base in the android kitchen?

Should this have been asked in the developer forum? All I am wanting to do is make sure I don't use the wrong rom to start learning and brick my tb. I have virtual box and all set up already. I understand some of these roms have signatures that have to be there and other stuff. This is just for personal use. And I wanna get more familiar with linux and my tb.

Rom manager question

I bought my atrix already rooted and it has gingerblur 4.5 on it.
As im not really knowledgeable on roms and such i have mainly 2 doubts
My first is on using rom manager over my already romd phone...is that safe or a recipe for bricking my phone.
My second is on going back to stock...not familiar with the process im told it is necesary for the gingerbread upgrade.

You have a bit of reading ahead of you. First of all you need to unlock the bootloader..

Creating ROM from Nandroid...safe?

I put together a ROM with the kitchen and did the major theming through the actual ROM and plan to backup fully when done and then run the backup through the kitchen.
I just want to ask of any personal information could be compromised by doing so.
Thank you in advance.

Search for Kitchen if you want a quick and lazy way into.
If not search cause this forum has thousands of posts on what you need to do.

If you're so inclined to have this happen, why not learn to program and empower yourself to complete the task you so impatiently are asking others to do for you.
If it was that easy this site would be pointless

It's not entirely too difficult to learn how to port it, I mean the coding is already present, just have to learn how interpret what's what with the android system and java coding, I agree that you should learn to do this as you would get faster results than just asking others to do it

Rom development help

I want to start developing my own Rom, what reading materials are available to help get started, what tools do I need?
Neo has provided some app development books already.

I think a good place to start is reading Cyanogen's thread.

Then head over to chef central and read the beginners guide.

Then look at the android hacking and development forum.

Cool thanks guys, I will pm later, working getting windows running under virtualbox.
Also, this has been bothering me for some time now, to root a phone why not just push the Su binary with adb to the bin folder, I mean to say wouldn't that work the same?

I've been wondering the same thing as in the old days when I had my Eris that is how I first rooted it.
That would be theme tools, I want to do a ground up Rom with extras and theme it.
I am wondering if I import cm9 launcher to say viperrez if it would break everything else.
