Pulse lost it's icon. - Nook Color Themes and Apps

After a day of use, "Pulse news" lost it's icon. It now shows a generic book icon with Pulse as the title. Same in "extras". If it bothers me enough, I guess I will un/re-install it. Can't figure out how uninstall it though. I started by removing it from home & it was then "archived". All I knew is it was no longer in extras. After some searching, found out I needed to un-archive it. Pretty lame! It would be so easy for B&N to adopt the methods used be many other launchers to remove or uninstall apps.
Anyone know how to uninstall apps in B&N 1.2.0?
Thanks,
kev

This very same thing happened to me yesterday with the Springpad app, it lost it's icon.
I also had an issue where Pulse reader was behaving as a book, so every time tried to launch it would fail, dunno what that was about.
In any case, I had to "uninstall" the apps and re-download them, fixed it.
To "uninstall", you have to go into your B&N online account, from there go to your Nook library and delete.

[Q] Still Bing Powered?

I have been following the walkthrough by Domush, ahs taken me a few days to work through however im new to this and praise you bc it seems to be the only thing working, and i installed everything in order just as you suggested but after i installed super_frankclean2_9v i am still bing powered, this is what i was hoping to remove most by rooting, do you have any ideas of why this might be. Maybe i dont understand what being bing powered mean, but i would assume when i hit my search soft key that it would search google not bing, is there any way to go into the search software and modify it to google, please let me know any and all advice thanks! also i havent found a good update.zip and havent been able to get it to run this may be the issue not sure
so i fixed this by deleting bing through titanium pro, however the icon is still there in the app screen, donno how to remove that if you do please let me know

This cannot be so. Bing has BEEN removed (as much as he CAN remove so far) in the last 39282948239 builds of SuperClean, and the Search button has BEEN linked to Google, so I have no clue what you are talking about.
Also, to remove, download Uninstaller For Root.
i have no idea, when i originally installed it, bing was there and so was the icon, but when i used titanium to remove it, it disappeared as far as when i clicked the search button and google automatically steppend in its place, but then i still had it as an icon. early today however i used super_frankenclean_2_9v_2 and it deleted in entirely

how do i uninstall applications?

like widgets? such as "apmobiles", seems to be a newspaper sort of thing i will never read. i also can't uninstall social/music/gaming/book hubs? i'm in the setting/applications/manage applications bit.
i want to basically delete a LOT of apps then only install what I need? i'm new to smartphones, moved from a nokia keypad phone. so the galaxy s2 was a massive jump for me.
Have a search for titanium backup and root. You'll need to root your phone 1st before you can 'freeze' but not remove apps.
The phone is brand new and it will take a while before custom roms that let you remove apps are available.
If I were you I'd wait before rooting as it is still a bit complicated and simpler methods will come along soon, I'm sure. I'd use the time to read the guides and get familiar with the phone.
Bear in mind that rooting/custom roms will lose you your warranty. Also, I'm not too worried about app removal as the phone has plenty of memory for my needs. Just remove the apps you don't want from the home screen and put on the ones that you do.
Edit: just wanted to clarify that I was referring to removing pre - installed apps.

Thanks for that, it's that I also noticed that there are services running in the background from applications that I'm not using, like I have the apmobile service running and also a social hub service running even neither is open. And I at least want to remove app shortcuts from the menu.
You'll need to root and freeze to remove the shortcut from the app drawer. I really wouldn't do that until you've read up and are confident though.
There are other threads about the social hub, have a search. I think you'll need to reset the phone and then not add any accounts if you want to stop it from being active.

To add-up about removing the widgets (probably you've found it already though), you only need to hold down the widget and slide it down to an area says remove
this phone comes with a built in task manager and a widget that shows you active tasks, i use the widget on my phone's desktop to close apps as needed ( i know the phone can handle it but its just my own thing lol ) and from there, there's a tab that lets you uninstall apps as well.
ofcourse you wont be able to uninstall those that came with the phone just yet.
I rooted mine which was dead easy and was my first time so you'll be fine. Download AntTek app manager from the market its free and lets you freeze, delete and backup any apps and widgets you want. You will no longer have any of those crap apps working in the background draining your battery. Hope this helps.
Edit: Oh yeah the built in task manager doesn't show system apps working in the background or at least not all so well worth freezing or removing them.

Weird app installing itself?

I noticed that for a few weeks now I'm getting spam type notifications in my notification bar saying things like I've won a free ipad. Was just clearing them out, but now I notice that a shortcut to a "market" has showed up on my homescreen. Can't find anything I didn't install in titanium or my stock application manager. Anyone know what this is and how it gets through my security app. I'm using bit defender. I notice my phones a bit glitchy as well. Widgets aren't wanting to load up. I'd like to figure it out before I do a data wipe.
Usually happens after installing a cracked app. Although I have seen this after installing MP3 Music down loaders as well.
Search for "Airpush detector" in the market then uninstall whatever apps are detected then they shouldn't show up again
Check this out.

Thanks for the info. Got em. It was a couple of winter scene live wallpapers.

[Q] Launcher default set to Home, no Web button or .apk access

I rooted the Nook Tablet using adb and NookandZergy, installed the Go Launcher EX, and had no problems until an accidental tick of the "default launcher" box. I know there are several Q and A posts on the subject, but none seem to have my particular problem.
- I seem to have no access to the developer setting or anything outside of the standard Nook settings. I don't see a way to access the developer settings, though when I plug the NT into a usb port, the notification for developer mode does come up.
- I have no "web" access, as in, I have no ability to open a web browser. I believe I may have deleted it when installing the root using one of the DOS options. The same goes for the search function.
- Going through the "library" app, I can see the android system UI files, etc., but nothing that could seem to help. I also can't launch any .apk files. The NT cannot read the file and claims it is an unsupported format.
I know I have tgps_launcher installed, at least I'm 95% certain that I do. I cannot seem to access it, unless I'm unaware of all the ways to do so. I think I've provided all the info surrounding this. If I have to nuke it and reroot, I will, though I would like to avoid that option and am unsure how to do so.
Any help is appreciate. Thanks in advance.
How to switch the default home launcher for HomeCatcher once I've already set it?... This link is in my FAQ >> i would suggest you to read it.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately this isn't possible solution, as it requires use of the "search" function. The search function for the NT Home was removed during the rooting process and is unavailable.
For the sake of argument, I tried to look for some sort of search functionality and found nothing. The only option, as I stated before, was to use the "library" app search function. This only displays actual Nook apps, however (Crossword, etc.).

Clever! Unfortunately, that was a no-go too. I went through Nook Friends to get to the google sign-in page, from there I got a mock google.com homepage going and found a download, but none of the ones I tried would work, the psuedo-browser would just crash.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to remove the stock launcher, but my gf actually prefers that interface to the Go Launcher (it's her device, I'm just doing the heavy lifting for her). I think I'm going to cut my losses and do the manual reset from your FAQ. Going with that, are there any launchers that more closely resemble the original Nook Home, or maybe a method of importing some of the icons/functionality of the rooted stuff to the Home? In any case, I'm going to be looking putting AnyCut and/or NT Hidden Settings to have several backups in case this happens again.
Thanks again for your help.

You can use stock launcher and still have an alternative one for when you use it (lets say) and change between them by using homecatcher or another app like home switcher, you may want to go to B&N setting > search> searchable items and check more items there; also in the quick tips section of my FAQ tell you what app to use to add android apps to default nook home launcher.
BTW just checking when i opened the netflix app you get some links there to open browser but if its crashing then you probably have to start from scratch 'cause that's not normal behave anyway.

Had the same thing happen to a friend's NT that I had rooted for him, and besides all that you mentioned "Button Savior" was there but didn't do anything. You are pretty much stuck.
I ended up having to do the 8+ factory resets and re-rooting, and then restoring everything from TiBackup. At least once you have the drivers working on your computer it's really not that big of a deal. I read somewhere that it might be related to "Homecatcher" but not sure about that.

Browser opening ad website after updating apps

Sometimes when an app finishes updating my browser (Via Browser) opens and loads a page that is advertising apps. First it was Appsquare, now it's some other website I forgot to remember. I have NO idea what the cause is and I didn't install any strange apps to my knowledge. I never installed any APK that I downloaded outside the Play Store and both Malwarebytes Antimalware and Eset found nothing. This doesn't always happen when I update an app so there's no set pattern. Smetimes it doesn't happen after updating one or more apps and sometimes it does and that is why I can't really figure out which app is causing it, if it is an app at all because there are no ads displaying in either app I use because I paid to get rid of it. Yes, I did some research and it seems to be an issue mainly affecting Samsung users and one site in particular did some research and found out it was a shady ad network behind it: Clickity. My symptoms do match but I have an LG device, not a Samsung device and I use a different browser. I have used a few of Cheetah Mobile's apps in the past but I'm sure I deleted all traces of it on my phone, at least the things I could find. And I haven't used a single app from those devs anymore since I did a factory reset on my phone and updated to Android 8 so there shouldn't be a trace left. I need help fixing this because I have no idea where to look.
EDIT: It turned out to be my clock widget app "Digital Clock Widget Xperia" made by Lazar Dimitrov that was causing those ads to pop up, despite paying to remove ads.
