Optimus p500 to get update in may !![india] - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

We already know the Froyo-running LG Optimus One best-seller will be getting the Android Gingerbread update, but so far there was no telling when this might happen. Now, thanks to LG India we know that the update will most likely be happening in May
LG initially stated the Optimus One won't be upgraded to Android 2.3 because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. However the company changed its mind shortly after that and promised us a Gingerbread update. It will come half a year later - somewhere by the end of May.
And just when we thought things are about to become crystal-clear LG posted another statement to confuse us. It seems the May thing is not confirmed and things might change.
We are hoping this second message has something to do with the LG legal department, who are afraid of the consequences if the company misses a promised release date.
Anyway, the most important thing here is LG is working on the Gingerbread update and it close to being completed.

[Q] SE: Great phones, lousy support?

This is my first SE smartphone so take this as you will but i've never come across anything quite like it with another company. Is the criticism justified?
Customers seem to be leaving them in droves cause they won't give any indication of whether they will update their flagship phone to 2.2. I'd be pretty upset too!
I've just read that a sony spokesman did say the X10 would include MT but now they're saying it never will. I also saw the ad that SE originally put out saying it had mulitouch that was later withdrawn.
With the 2.1 update debacle it seems like they're either really inept or generally lying and misleading customers. Is the delay really worth it for the custom SE 2.1 OS when you could have an Android phone running 2.2?
Last thing i want to do is get locked into a 2 year contract with a phone that is poorly supported so i need to ask these questions.
Cheers.
There's nothing great about SE, just complete lousiness.

Completely agree with you, This is the first and last SE phone I buy.
SE's software department is probably the worst from any Android vendor out there.
Anyway, I doubt their Android phone department is "healthy". The latest flagship was launched a year ago, software updating was disastrous and there's no roadmap at all for new Xperia phones.
If the X10 Mini's form factor is the compelling reason, I'd take a look at the Motorola Flipout. The hardware is a lot better (Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX530) and it's being updated to Froyo during this month.

Finaly confirmation from LG that the G2 will get Kitkat

The key there is the uncertain date. I wish they could feel that it is safe to give some kind of target date with the understanding that it might be missed. Or at least give out status updates. Waiting in the dark sucks.
It was pretty obvious we were going to get KitKat. The real question had to do with the timeframe which is still up in the air.
When it comes to LG, nothing was certain. LG has a reputation for never updating their devices, so this confirmation that there will be an update, is relieving.
For example, the LG Optimus G (which the G2 replaced) still runs Android 4.1, and never got an update from its release (and probably never will get an update). Until the G2, LG was under the assumption that cellular phones should never be software updated.
And those of us with Verizon will have to wait for Verizon to approve it for their device which adds time

My wifes Samsung Note 2 and my Note 10.1 are still on 4.1, so its not just LG.
The Note line is problematic because of the frigging pen. There are too many modification needed.

It will definitely not be in November in the USA even if the Europeans get it November because of the additional layer of BS which is the USA carriers touch on it and their bloatware. Even December seems like a stretch so my guess is that the USA versions will come at the very earliest January.
If you folks want to put any stock on what a french carrier says then buy all means just keep going on and on. Until LG releases something officially, this is all rumors and BS. If you want kitkat anytime soon, then you'll need to root and wait for a Rom to release a 4.4 version of their Rom.
By the way, that French site has updated their table. It now says "No Update Scheduled."
http://smartphones.sfr.fr/android/prochaines-mises-a-jour-smartphones-novembre-2013/
Or possibly, it says No Updates for the Optimus G and for the G2 it just says Scheduled.
We really just need an updated kernel. Once we have a good updated working kernel, copying the files over shouldn't be that hard.
LG was always bad at updating their equipment. This is my 2nd LG (non-nexus) device. We've come a long way since the LG G2x and I hope LG has learned lots of lessons. I grabbed the G2 with very high hopes that LG won't let me down again. It seems they are starting out VERY VERY well and lots of people are raving over the G2.
As long as they don't just quit on 4.4, I'll be happy. I have this phone for 2 years. Android 4.4 is the first step to take us into 1 year. Android 4.5/4.6 might just be minor updates but Android 5.0 will probably be a huge release. As long as LG can come through with 4.4 in a reasonable time frame and another major update in a year, I'll be super happy.
With LG making both the current Nexus device and one of the hottest non-nexus devices, this shouldn't be very hard, especially since they all share mostly the same hardware.

Haha. LG already put an announcement out, except they gave that 'no date announced bit'. We'll see. G2 is a pretty big release. They're gonna have a tons of angry people if they don't come through.

Any link to this announcement? Dont get me wrong, I do believe in 4.4 for G2, OG and OG Pro, but havent seen any source from LG themselves.
I guess I assumed wrongly that they wouldn't be so dense as to not update their flagship phone. Guess I should have done more research. At the time I figured I'd root/ROM but having dropped the damn thing first week in I'm now too puckered up to do so for awhile, for sure.
I still can't believe how easily it cracked. Granted it was face down on sharp stones.
Not sure my point. On the one hand clearly the device should be updated and at least within a few months. On the other... I don't remember being promised anything. Unless Google is enforcing their proposed 18 month support guideline then we're at mercy of LG.
How much time should they get to announce some sort of plan? Seems like the ideal thing would be to be ready to announce soon after 4.4 was released. Is not like it was a secret to them when this would happen. It's a black mark on retail/normal Android process for the majority of users.
Yes, I'll end up installing a custom ROM. But I don't believe the b.s. about updates not being important to the average user. These guys just magically update their iOS devices? No, they're listening and they go into the settings to update...

Is LG losing credibility again?

Lg is dragging its feet on getting KITKAT out to the owners of simfree International versions of the LG G2...it seems all to familiar to owners of earlier promising LG handsets. KitKat does exist or our phones....so why do we not have it?
LG has THE WORST reputation for updates and it is proving that this reputation is deserved. I really do not understand why a company that is leading edge in all areas of Android development does not seem to understand that late deployment of updates HARMS its reputation and loose sales!
The KitKat firmware is there, put it on the servers!!!!!
People choose to trust LG by buying the phone simfree, so reward us with the quickest updates!
This Phone has done much to restore faith in LG and this dilly dallying is damaging the image turn around the G2 allowed.
What do other readers think? Is LG again reverting to type and deliberately avoiding updating Phones? LG works so closely with Google at the moment that there really is no excuse for being so late....Q1 is rapidly ending and they NEED to get this sorted TODAY!
Sorry to burst your bubble but you'll be seriously disappointed with Kit Kat. It's not some groundbreaking update. TBH, it's just the need to have the latest and greatest, objectively this phone runs just as great with JB as it does with KK. Whoever says differently is fooling himself.
So sit back, relax, enjoy probably the best phone out there and stop counting down the days.
What i want to know is how you can put a [Q] before your thread title and think it's still ok to post in General and not you know... Questions and Answers section?!
But to answer your question the update is coming you can do it manually or just wait the real problem is the awful audio bug in Kitkat and the lack of an official response on what they are doing about it.
oke! that is probably very good advice. So i will take it. Thank you for the reply, appreciated.

Do it manually then. It won't be any different to what gets pushed out OTA and you don't lose anything by doing it manually either keeps apps etc.
I shouldn't have to do it manually and tbh there isn't a uk version to download and after listening to all the whinging because people have put different regions on their phones I'll have wait.

There is a Eur Open rom and chances are that will be the EXACT file we get as an update. I haven't seen much whinging about putting different region roms on phones unless you mean putting D805 on a D802 etc which i wouldn't recommend anyway...

Well said. Had KK on my G2 for a few days but i will struggle to name just 3 things that are better now than before. To be honest I had to search online to find out whats new in KK because everything looks and behaves exactly the same. Relax people and enjoy your phone, you'll forget about KK in one hour after you have it installed.

I for one wouldn't want the KitKat update till the horrible "crackling/hissing in earphone" bug is fixed. I am fine with stock 4.2.2 and the best part is I can flash Philz touch recovery and install Mahdi's competent 4.4.2 rom.
There are posts like this in almost every device forum during new android version rollouts. LG has released Kitkat ahead of its original schedule, your carrier is just dragging its feet.
I have an international unlocked G2 and KitKat upgrade is available as an OTA download or via LG PC Suite, so... your argument is invalid.

Sorry to burst your bubble but LG already released all the Kitkat sources, it's now up to your provider or regional office. So if you want to file a complaint which it seems to be the UK region device, maybe you should go ***** at LG UK for being incompetent.
LG is a huge company, in overall comparison their phone divisions are very small. Someone at LG has obviously taken notice that they have a lot of potential and have been working extremely hard at transforming the LG brand of phones into something which rivals the current market giants. If you said a year ago that LG would be updating phones and would have the best phones on the market(G2/G Pro 2) everyone would laugh at you.
LG is going through a lot of expansion and maturing, you honestly can't expect for them to be on HTC/Samsung/Moto/Sony tier as up until 6 months ago the only decent phone they ever really made and supported was the Nexus 4 which is only the former. Give them another year, the G3 and another reiteration of flagship phones and they could really be on par. However until then there's still going to be plenty of teething issues since they've just finally entered the big boys market.
Sorry what? *Yawn*

ALL very good points i will consider thinking before complaining next time!
I completely agree with you and I find the answer "KK is really the same as JB" really stupid, first of all it's not true, there are useful things introduced with KK and above all LG needs to fix a lot of bugs on this phone, so every update is welcome. Then the first reason I'm angry at LG is that the Korean version of the G2 got KK on december, and except little differences like the micro SD expansion card it's the same phone as in the rest of the world. And so LG needed 4 months to adapt it to the international version? Really? A big company like LG needs 4 months adapt a update for an identical phone? And then when the release finally arrives it's like this, someone a month earlier, someone like me (32 GB European version) still not, without any reason. After a Nexus One and a Nexus 4 I gave a chance to LG, but I think it'll be the last and only time

Please Email LG Canada for us Poor D803ers!

Hi all, the D803 is not getting lollipop, my favorite phone ever is about to die from obsolescence well before it's life! This is quite ridiculous seeing as the phone is not that old and all other models have been updated already. Come on LG!
This being said, please help us pressure LG by contacting them here:

Here's what I wrote:
Hello,
Recently there's been a vicious rumor circling the Internet and gaining great momentum. The rumor is that LG, while having updated the rest of the G2 fleet, decided that Canada was too cold and doesn't have enough penguins for the D803 to be updated correctly.
I of course don't believe this rumor, sure we don't have penguins, however, there's no such thing as too cold.
Moreover, I can't believe that LG, a break-through manufacturer trying to get a foothold in Android would be so foolish as to not update a device that's about 14 months old and was touted as a "flagship" level phone. I mean to not update the Canadian model will cast doubt amongst other Android enthusiasts that their models also won't get future updates. Of course, this will lead to LG being dismissed as a serious choice among enthusiasts (a major demographic in Android) and sales will suffer.
Please tell me this rumor isn't true, I believe in LG's reputation more than this, don't let us down...
Thanks to everyone who sends something in, this is truly an unfair situation.

lg Canada replied on live chat that they have already delivered an update to carriers...but carriers are not pushing it. I think its time to complain to telus and rogers directly.
Done! I am waiting for LG response.
I wrote Telus and the response was: "Hi there, at this point, we're still not aware if LG will release the update or not. The G3 was updated recently so we'll see about the G2."
Last couple weeks, Telus had the g2 on the update list...now it's off

no. EVERY custom ROM is dropping d803 support, because all the other versions are now based off the new lollipop source code release .... which d803 doesn't have. all the ROMs which are "CAF" based will no longer support d803.
this includes blisspop,, cm, paranoid android, etc.
we are screwed if we dont get a source release.
What a turd company. Saw this coming, weeks after it seems everyone with the g2 was getting L and not a peep for the D803.
This will be my last LG phone, I will look for Samsung or Asus zenphones for upgrades. I am on a Bell D803 . Just disgusting to drop support for a still high spec 2 yr old phone.

That's good to hear. Hope it gets more attention. There's no good reason why such a small re-brand should be getting the firmware update as well.
There has to be some kind of relationship issue between LG Canada, the mothership, as well as the Canadian carriers. This has gone on for multiple LG phones now in Canada.

I did see some comments on Reddit that the Korean re-release did speed things up. We'll see.
That source actually came out a couple weeks ago, before the original H930 Pie release was pulled and re-released. It was mentioned in one of the XDA threads as well.
And it's a strange one because it lists both H932 and H933. Hard to imagine that those two models would have the same firmware, particularly with H932 having band 71. But I guess the modem partition isn't part of this.
BTW the sources released on that site mostly mostly contain the kernel.
Yup. I'm hoping we'll see something in a couple weeks built off this. Wishful thinking never hurt, eh? ?
Any day now...
I'm just saying it would be very embarrassing for LG to release Pie to the V30 after Android 10 is released. There is something to be said about utility and with the release of 10, waiting for Android 9 will have even less of an appeal. LG's Software Upgrade Center is failing hard and it's a shame because even though what they did with Oreo is incredible, all people care about is being on the latest version and these massive delays are a disincentive for high-end phone buyers.

Yes, Oreo on LG V30 is very good. Especially the updates/improvements first part of 2019.
I'll probably keep my wife's V30 phone and my mother's V30 phone on latest Oreo for quite some time, even after Pie is released. Works well, and they don't know, don't care what Android dessert they're on.
This!
I'm in no hurry to update my perfectly running phone either.

Has anybody seen filenames of any US Pies yet, to see if the US carriers are also onboard with this wonderful open barn door?
