I dont use Google voicemail. Since the voicemail button on the dialer is set to google, how hard would it be to set it back to open VVM? I can deal with it but when I forget and press it to get my mail it causes FC. I have removed Google Voice from the app dir so it would not load.
Since going to the new Comm. ROM I have also lost Voice Commands. It also causes FC when I try and run it.
It took a lot of searching but it looks like if you use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) you can push the phone or dialer.apk to your phone.
So download the latest stock .zip package.
Unzip it and find the .apk you need. (search for the actual .apk name shouldn't be hard)
Then push it to the same directory on your phone with ADB

this is a guide to downloading and installing ADB.
OR you can just use the 1 key by holding it down..... that works too

It's possible change the default (unknown) caller picture on the Arc?
search on google android market yourself.............
Yes it possible.
I don't running stock rom right now so I can't test it, unknown contact picture found in sony ericsson contact apps.
Yes, its possible
You need to open the (ROM).zip that you are using and edit an .apk and then use ADB to push it back to the phone.
I'm using Virtuous Unity 1.3.1. I've done it successfully on a few other ROMs too.
You'll need a graphics editor (I used MS Paint), Android SDK with adb, 7-Zip.
Here's how I did it...
As always, MAKE A BACKUP! Its not my fault if something goes wrong.
1 - Open the .zip copy of the ROM that you're using
2 - Extract a copy of /system/app/Phone.apk
3 - Open Phone.apk using 7-zip and copy the following files to your desktop (don't close the 7-Zip window):
-phone_default_270.png
-phone_default_300.png
-phone_default_incall_270.png
-phone_default_incall_300.png
4 - Find a picture that you want to use and resize it to 300x300 and 270x270. Save it as the above file names.
5 - Copy the 4 files back into the Phone.apk archive and exit 7-Zip
6 - Copy the new Phone.apk file into your adb directory (Android SDK, usually in the platform-tools folder)
7 - Connect your phone to your computer and ensure its in charge-only mode with USB debugging enabled
8 - Open a command prompt window, change to your adb directory, and run the following commands:
adb devices {to make sure the device is connected}
adb remount {sets it to read/write}
adb push Phone.apk /system/app/Phone.apk {replaces the Phone.apk file}
9 - Disconnect your device and reboot
10 - Enjoy!

My Bad....
Hi all,
I'm having some trouble with the bluetooth on my phone. When I press the bluetooth button to turn on, it does nothing. It doesn't turn green as it usually does and doesn't search for devices. I checked my files and there is no bluetooth apk file. I have no idea how it got deleted but I was wondering if there's anyway I can download it from somewhere? Also what other files would I need to get the bluetooth working again?
Thank you!
Samsung Fascinate
Android 2.2.2
Rooted
You could extract it from your rom and push it back to system/app.
Well that makes sense but when I try looking that up, I get a bunch of guides on how to extract and delete, but what do I type into command to push it back?
It is easiest to use Titanium Backup or recovery to push it back to your phone.

A simpler way is just to extract it from your rom then use root explorer to paste it in your system/app directory.
Requirements
A Rooted device running ICS AOSP Rom
Hands
Procedure
Open Root Explorer & navigate to /system
Now Open build.prop in Text Editor.
Edit ro.build.version.sdk = 16 & save.
Now go to /system/app & Rename GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk1
Now reboot & install the app from the download link.
Now edit build.prop & change ro.build.version.sdk = 15 & reboot.
Now install this application is the one with Google Now as any application, apk
here is the full thread how you can install it for your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045
Thanks for looking
First one to thank you! Trying this as im typing right now..
it's pretty useless without voice recognition
Getting a network error...any ideas?
My data is enabled.
This is working on most AOSP/AOKP.
Not working on stock or stock like roms.
Voice will not connect with servers and you will only get errors.
Its a work in progress.
It will install but you can only search by typing.

Is it possible to get a CMW flashable zip of this?
Just tested it out and it does load but the network issues and no voice search kill it a bit , but its got a future...
To revert back can I just make apk1 to apk?
Or do I need to uninstall something?
I couldn't find it in that thread.
On the last page someone asked the same thing but hasn't had an answer so I was wondering if anyone has done it here.

can you guys with the network error try this one (and log if possible)
push it to /system/app and replace the old one velvet apk if there's any.
what u can do is move the GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk to a folder you know in case you need to place back again, and download and move this one Velvet-theos0o to /system/app and set permission just close and try the search button on your cell phone after a reboot
Thanks
are you properly logged in etc. on other google services?

Delete the googleserachbox.apk in data/app then rename the one in system/app. After that reboot to recovery, clear cache and dalvik then fix permissions and reboot.
yeah just remove the 1 after apk and remove any other velvet or search apk u had place in that folder /system/app
Now that the dump is out, im hosting the gmail apk again! enjoy!
here it is guys, the newest Gmail 4.2 Reported to be working for Android 4.0+, rooted devices only. If you are having issues with 'waiting to sync', clear app data under settings and try again

Installation Option 2:
The Gmail 4.2 APK is signed by Google, but with a different key than the one in the Play Store (we checked the signatures - they differ). One is probably the test key and the other the production key. For this reason, you can't simply install it as an update and therefore need to be rooted with the ability to mount the /system directory for writing in order to remove the existing Gmail APK.
OK, let's get down to it. You'll probably need ADB installed on your computer (here's an easy way that doesn't require downloading the Android SDK). There is a chance that this might work without ADB by just removing the APKs mentioned below and installing the new one, but it didn't seem to work reliably for everyone. This should, though:
1. Download Gmail 4.2 from one of the mirrors above.
2. Rename it to Gmail2.apk.
3. Make a Nandroid backup in case something goes wrong (this is always a good thing to do before messing with your device).
4. Delete (or move if you want to save the APKs) all other versions of Gmail. Usually there are 2 or 3 copies. One will be in /system/app (that's the original Gmail that was pre-installed on the device) and there may be a few in /data/app (these are the updates installed from the Play Store). They'll be called "Gmail.apk," or "com.google.android.gm-[number].apk," An easy way to tell is to look for the Gmail icon.
5. You may need to delete the .odex files matching the APKs in step 4 too, if you have them. Neither I nor Artem had to do this, but there are many different ROMs out there, and we're trying to cover all bases. Ignore this step and only come back to it if something doesn't work later.
6. Reboot. Once you do, you should have no Gmail as far as Android is concerned.
7. You can try to install the Gmail 4.2 APK you downloaded at this point by tapping it in your favorite file explorer (move the APK to your device first, of course). If that doesn't work, or if you prefer ADB, fire up a command line and type adb install Gmail2.apk.
If you get an error message, you probably didn't delete all copies of Gmail. If you don't feel like playing with ADB for Step 7, I've also gotten it to work by just copying the APK to /data/app, but that's not as fool proof as "ADB install".

1-up for u thanks
bump, apk is back in the OP!
So I spent 3 days trying to decompile one APK before I came here. I have the following programs on my hard drive .
C:/android/
apkmultitool
apktool
apkmanager
You can tell me how to do it with any of them.
I open downloaded java, adk, sdk and a bunch other things different guides claimed I needed. I can open script. It will run. I can navigate there in comand propmt to the right folder.... but then what?
So im sitting in C:/android/ApkMultiTool/ im in cmd propmpt what do I type?
Script (correct?)
then the script runs.... I get a option I choose pick my project
(swype keyboard)
It picks it then I go to decompile app...
Then it quits back to CMD prompt (the app stops) is this what should happen? I assume when decompile something it decompiles... the apk looks the same.... so im confused why wont? it run after that? why would just stop I heard about framework. I downloaded a file with like 25 frameworks in it but I got no idea what it means and I can't find a clean explanation on this.
If someone can get me past this simple first step of how to get the program to decomiple it (comands and frameworks I need plus explain what framework means)
whats if framework-res mean? I don't understand which means I can't do it on my own
Thanks a bunch I tried to not ask for help but im tired
Alright I managed decompile swipe then Mod it but after I tried recompile it it says error and to push number 21 and it also said compression level (when I push the option it tells me to)
Why won't it compile? Did I do something wrong or I heard you compile with framework (i know where framework is on my phone) but what frame work files do I need where do I put them also? please or send me to a good help site on this or basic comandds. I just wana mod my keyboard and recompile it Ive downloaded like 10 packages already trying get right tools...
1. Must I run adb comand from the sdk folder every time I want to use multi tools (to decompil and recompile)
2. Can I use the cmd prompt with abd and android comander at the same time? Or is it one abd program at a time.
Thank you
1. Where should my main tools be can someone just list like C:/android/ (place adb here and rest of my tools?) or does sdk-tools go in my apkmultitools spot
