[Q] DL09 Radio!!!! - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked at my about phone option the other day and saw that I am still running the DL09 radio! I would like to upgrade but it's such a pain in the lower lumbar to get to Edo1. Adrynls instructions are appreciated but I can't follow them. Any suggestions on how I may painlessly upgrade to anything better?

If you can't take the time to upgrade to the ED01 radio via Adrynalyne's instructions, there is nothing better out there for you...

Depends which part of the instruction you have an issue with. If you don't mind using odin, you can flash ec01. If you don't wanna use odin, I hear dl09 is running fine for some on the newer roms.
Sent from my brain on channel 64!

Second the flashing ec01. Until somebody finds theres a notable difference between ed01 and ec01 its just not worth the trouble getting to ed01.
Just dl the ec01 radio. Follow the instructions and use odin to flash the radio and be done with it.

Yeah, I wouldn't quite agree with imnuts -- if for whatever reason you don't want to/can't follow the ED01 instructions, which are certainly somewhat of a hassle, you can still Odin to EC01. Odin flashing is just as painless as CWM flashing.

Flashing the full DL09 package in Odin is no more involved than flashing the EC01 modem in Odin - connect your phone, click one button, choose one file, click start.
After that, the only difference is putting two update.zips on your SD card, rebooting in recovery and choosing the 1st option. It's really hard to imagine how it could be any easier.

Depends on your imagination I suppose.

Not trying to be a jerk, but if that's the case, then imnuts' answer is probably the best - if you can't/don't want to flash the stock DL09 and then run two trivially simple updates, you should just stick with what you have. Maybe we'll get a leaked ED01 modem and you'll be able to flash just that.
Or, you could elaborate on exactly what problem you're having with Adrenalyn's instructions. Honestly, the whole process should take no more than 10 minutes if you have the files on hand.
Here it is again, as simple as I can make it.
Step 1, download this file: CI500_VZW_DL09_ECLAIR.tar.md5 Leave it on your computer.
Step 2, download this file: http://www.multiupload.com/F00OYXVO0K Put it on the root of your SD card, and make sure it's named update.zip
Step 3, download this file: http://www.multiupload.com/LPI21AP8TD Put it on the root of your SD card, and name it ED01update.zip.
Step 4, connect your phone in download mode, start Odin, click the PDA button, choose the first file you downloaded and press start. Wait 'till it's done and the phone will restart.
Step 5, restart the phone in recovery and choose "apply update.zip". Wait 'till it's done and the phone will restart.
Step 6, once the phone starts back up, open up My Files and rename update.zip EA28update.zip. Then rename ED01update.zip update.zip.
Step 7, repeat step 5.
Viola, you now have full ED01 - modem, kernel, ROM. Feel free to Odin the latest CWM recovery and then flash whatever ROM and kernel you want, or just use stock ED01 as is.
If you can't expend the effort to follow these simple instructions, I've already spent too much effort trying to help you. Sorry.

And I'm not trying to be a smart-mouth, I really appreciate your response and find it very helpful. That's what this is all about! I see so many threads turn to silly garbage dumps of people venting to each other about nothing. Thanks again!

I know what you mean. You might want to try Android Central, it tends to be a much friendlier place. There's numerous people there (most of which are here too) who'll bend over backwards to help you.

If I may ask, what is the difficulty you are having with the instructions? If we knew that we might be able to help you better. There really is no way around odin. But if you download the full dl09 package in install it via odin, you can just do system update from about phone..you'd need to do it twice. Once for ea28 and then ed01..but again there really isn't anything that can be done without first going the odin route.

You are better off staying on dl09 radio. Atleast for me, I get way better battery life and dbm with it.

I am running on EA28 firmware. all the threads tell about DL09. any difference?
Not to be an ass or anything, but if you can't figure out how to root the phone, find a stickied thread, or what needs done to flash ROMs, than you should stay away from 2.2 until you can. Odds are, you'll end up flashing something you shouldn't and it will be harder to get back to a working phone. Read through the threads and stickies first and gain an understanding of how to accomplish whatever it is you want to do.

I was able to root while on EA28, but make sure you read the "Note to Stock Users" at the bottom of the first post on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470
If you are new to rooting or new to rooting this phone, you really need to read the instructions carefully (no skimming!) a few times before starting. It took me about three hours to root and install DL30 the night I got my phone (including time I goofed things up).
Good luck!

You're in the right place, but you really should heed the advice you've already been given and read what's available before you make a costly mistake...
I started with the same stock configuration as you. Thanks to several hard-working devs (adrynalyne; jt1134 and others willing to document steps for us noobs), I'm now running Froyo with all the functionality I've been after since I bought this thing... Honestly, it's like a new phone.
EVERY question and glitch along the way had already been addressed on these forums - it's all there for the searching.
Also, I gather that folks will more patiently assist you if you *do* get into a fix if it appears you're willing to first RTPFM (read the proverbial f#$%^&* manual .

[ROM][Radio][4.10.11]EC01

EC01 must be old, right? Not so. I cannot give you the build date however, per request of...someone else. Its considerably newer than EC10, however. For some it may be hard to take my word for it, but I have never lied to anyone here.
In here you will find a new shiny radio, a voodoo or non voodoo EC10 kernel, courtesy of JT1134, and...a ROM!
No more hacking pieces together from other devices. No more crappy radios (hopefully). No more poor GPS (hopefully).
Please do not ask where it came from. I will not tell you. All file dates have been changed, the build.prop has been masked.
Please do not ask for an Odin. I will not give you one at this time.
Please enjoy yourself, I insist.
This ROM is ever so slightly tweaked. It is not a quality release by my standards (mostly because its stock). I recommend folks wait for the community rom to be finished. If you can't wait, by all means, flash away.
Does not include a kernel.
Debinged, browser included.
Debloated, yet contains most stock apps.
Custom boot animation, because I am not including the original kernel.
Dialer voicemail button points to Google Voice.
Your current kernel will be retained. So if you are using a Froyo kernel, you will be just fine.
Xoom boot animation because you will be using a custom boot animation supporting kernel.
Installation Instructions (read carefully)
---------------------------------------------------------
Make a nandroid backup.
Odin back to EB01 stock.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003017
Boot once, convert to voodoo if need be.
Boot back to clockwork recovery and flash rom.
Boot once, then Odin the radio.
Please follow these directions. There are apparently some kernel/cwr issues that are causing boot loops. If you decide to flash another kernel afterwards, be my guest. Don't wipe, however. The above directions are after hours of testing by IRC folks, and I THANK all of them!!!!!

I was able to get times_infinity's comavolt voodoo to work, but only if I ODIN'd back to EB01 stock, then ODIN'd ec01 radio, ODIN 03/30 cwm fix, boot directly to recovery, flash ec01 rom, flash comavolt kernel, boot was successful. Going to play with it a bit tomorrow.......errr later today after I get some sleep.

This will wipe your data, btw, so be sure to backup any important info. You can make a nandroid backup, but you will probably have issues if you try to restore the data to use with this ROM.

Step-by-Step Installation - Important!
ODIN the full stock EB01 package in PDA, the atlas_v2.2.pit in PIT, and "Re-Partition" checked
Let your phone fully boot into the OS and verify everything is working correctly
Remove your battery
ODIN the CWM Recovery package
Close odin, Unplug/replug the phone from USB, re-enter download mode, Re-open odin.
ODIN the modem
Unplug USB Cable, THEN reinsert your battery
Hold both of the volume keys and the power button down until a second after you see the Samsung boot logo, then let go
It should now boot into red CWM recovery
Wipe Cache only. Flash the ec10_rom.zip
Flash the kernel of your choice
Reboot. If you have installed a voodoo kernel, then you should hear a Sexy Robot lady telling you that she is converting your partitions. This process will take 10 minutes or so. If you pull the battery, you will have to start all over again.
Let your phone fully boot into the OS and verify everything is working correctly
I can't stress enough how important it is to check your files for the correct checksum to verify that your download did not get corrupted (you can also use it as a way to make sure you have the right version). Also, follow these instructions exactly. You could potentially be wasting your time and anyone else's who is trying to help you fix whatever random issue you might be having, merely because you didn't follow the instructions.
I've been scanning threads for news of this mystery drop since your first hint and just as I'm about to cash out for the night... OMFG! You f'ing rock mate! Now, if I can only find the strength to hold out for the community brain child... I know it will be worth the wait. Oh, but a tasty new radio sure sounds delicious right now!

[Q] Contacts/Data Lost, Apps Force Close

So I've been around in rooting and such and when I tried flashing CM7, that's where all my problems began after it failed to flash and did a boot repeat...
I've flashed many recoveries from dl01 all in one...DL09...EB01...all in odin including the atlas pit file...and this is what happens...
After first flash, everything works well...I can install everything and everything seems to run ok...
but if ever I restart my phone...all my contacts are lost...apps such as adw...or any other app that I've installed ends up force closing when I try to open...
Is there any way to fix this? I'm a little desperate and tried searching around only to find one other person with the problem...
If it's worth anything...I noticed after looking in task manager summary that personal data has nothing in it or any capacity...it's just 0.0/0.0
Please help
First lets get some terminology straight for those of us who may have a solution.
When you say Boot repeat I think you mean Boot loop, and when you say DL09 recovery you mean the odin packages correct? A recovery would be CWM.
Now when you used Odin to flash the .pit and DL09 (or whatever) did you also make sure the reformat box what ticked? I know that coming from a MTD/BML cross over that CM7 does, a full reformat is needed in order for it to function correctly.
Also did you follow the sticky in the Dev thread that says...

Flashing or installing a recovery on a stock kernel gets reset at boot. You need to flash recovery (cwm) in odin with battery out, insert batt and 3 finger into recovery and flash a custom kernel to get recovery to stick.
good day.
???
hi, and thanks for reply........im sorry but im obviously newbie. can you give advice on how exactly i can acheive your suggestion ?.......i dont know what ODIN is or even how to do this

good day.
well, like i said, im newb, so i tried the ROM MANAGER app.......and it lists only a few ROMs. but any i try i get same error.
btw, i would like to be on Cynogen, or fresh
Don't really recommend Rom Manger...
-Download Odin.
-Download CWM4 fixed for CM7... HERE. (Bottom of JTs post)
-Copy the ROM you wish to use onto your SD card anywhere.
-Open Odin
-Phone off, remove the battery, hold down volume button, plug in USB cord
-Should go into download mode, shown on the screen of your phone, and show show up as connected in Odin.
-Using PDA Button (Never use phone button in ODIN!) flash the CWM4 for Odin file you downloaded. DON'T do anything until it says success, finished done, etc, just don't stop mid flash. Shouldn't take that long, and your phone should turn back off.
-Reinsert the battery, do the three finger recovery (DO NOT let the phone boot back up otherwise you'll need to reflash recovery)
-Choose install ROM from SD card, choose the rom, CM7 or whatever you downloaded, and flash it.
-Now that's going from memory, so it might not be exactly "install rom from sd card", I think it actually says "install .zip from sd card" or something like that but you get the idea.
- I would recommend backing up all your data, and then wiping cache, dalvik, and data before flashing a new ROM.
- If going to CM7, MIUI, OMGB OMFGB, VGB, etc, any 2.3 based rom you'll want to ODIN the GB_Bootloaders too.
Superoneclick has had problems on 2.2.2 ed05. If you odin the stock ed05 package from pentafive, you dont need to flash a modified kernal to get cwm to stick! Also there is no need to root if your installin a rom, it will already be rooted. My suggestion is to start with powerwashed 1.2 rom get familiar with what you are doing before messing around with mtd gingerbread roms.

If you don't have any clue what ODIN is, or what CWM is, or even how to spell Cyanogen correctly, you have no business at all even thinking about being on CyanogenMod 7. Have to learn to crawl before you can walk before you can run. Read the stickies, read the stickies again, read the stickies again, know what you are doing and understand what you are doing before doing anything to your phone, then start simple with a debloated/deodexed stock rom or powerwash ED05.

There's no trick or magic or easy fix for rooting. Its all about experience. Once you've flashed 20 ROM's+...you'll understand!
I know that some of these are 150+ pages long, I KNOW...I've read them all! Trust me when I tell you, each page is money!

[Q] Total Factory Reset. Possible?

Hey all,
So I've been digging into this for about a week now and have come up with no conclusive results. I sincerely hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I've been experiencing random lockups and resets recently on EVERY rom I use, including all stock roms. I just don't get it. So I've been trying every rom possible and going back to stock, changing kernels, underclocking and overclocking, changing I/O schedulers, etc...
But what is really blowing my mind is that regardless of how many full wipe and restores I've done, my phone still seems to remember my wifi network and other random info. My question is this:
Is there a way to truly get my phone all the way reformatted to how it came out of the box? (blank slate with absolutely NO user date whatsoever)
If anybody can help me out with this, it would be so greatly appreciated.
Also, I have to manually update the drivers on my device everytime I put it in to download just for Odin to work with it.
follow the going back to stock section in the link...

Yeah I've done this so many times its sickening. Appears the drivers are gone from my phone as well.
This may be a stupid question, but somewhere along the the way I guess my nandroid backup disappeared. Is it possible to use someone elses?

Yeah. This is baffling me. I've been doing the custom rom thing for awhile now and am pretty knowledgeable on all of this. But I'm still getting random lockups and resets.

One thing to try is to back up your sd card to a computer then reformat it, then odin a stock package and see if that fixes things. Or odin all the way back to eclair (dl09) then flash your rom of choice. This was the only way I could get on cm7.

I'm in the process of trying this right now. Also, thank you for your help and for replying in such a timely manner. I'll post back my results.

You, sir, are a God among men. I don't know why but I odin'd back to dl09 instead of ed05 this time and reformatted my sd card and everything seems to have fixed itself. Crazy. Can't express enough gratitude...

Your welcome...Glad it worked for ya! I think dl09 is the best stock package to odin as far as clean install. I was having one hell of a time trying to put cm7.1 on my phone a few days ago...tried every stock froyo package and pwgb, but couldnt get the file system to convert. just a bunch of "can't mount system/data" errors. Finally decided to try the old dl09 package and reformat sd card and bam cm7 installed...which imo was a good indicator that some of the stock odin packages out there do not completely wipe everything.

Yeah that has absolutely been my experience now. ED05 ended up failing me in the end. I just never thought to use dl09 since it was so old but now I'm a firm believer it is the only stock odin package that should be used for clean installs. I had so many issues before this and now it feels like the first time I ever installed a custom rom. And zero problems as well. Thanks again!
Is Atlas pit file same for dl09 and ed05?
