What is the best radio and kernel for Community Rom? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
We have many select and love Community Rom.
Can you shared what is best suite of the radio and kernel for this Rom?
Thanks,
MA

First of all, being a question this should probably have been posted in Q&A, not development. On to your question, had you read ANY of the community rom thread (i.e. the first post) you would know that the community rom comes with a kernel, and its a darn good one at that. As for radios, that question is answered several times within that thread too: you can use whatever radio you want, but most users report the best results with the leaked EC01 or official ED01 radios... However the only way to get the ED01 radio is to use adryn's guide to update to the OTA, and then proceed with flashing the community rom.

Where is the best place to post a question?
And Com ROM already coems with a damn good kernel. Feel free to try any of the other ones if you'd like though.
As for radio, most go with EC01 or ED01. Some stick with the trusty DL09. It all comes down to your phone and the network in your area. So if it's important to you, you need to test them...... for science.

It doesn't matter what radio you use. Your still stuck with the fascinates crappy service IMO. Just use the kernel it comes with.

My service is great...

i agree with you that this belongs in the Q&A section however reading through the comm rom thread is ridiculously difficult, its over 100 pages already and trying to find good info amongst all the "dude this is sooooo awesome" posts is a nightmare
to answer your questions the kernel that comes with the ROM is very good but you have to know what you're doing with voltage control
I switched to imnuts kernel -100mv and love it
as far as the radio, i was on EC01 which was working well, switched to ED01 and for some reason wasn't getting as good service so switched back to EC01
some people had exactly the opposite experience, may have something to do with where you are located
try both and see

*TY GPS rocks now
I was wondering if I could install the rom from that same thread over the top of SC 2.9.2?
Also is there a kernal that supports SetCPU specifically a LV version.
I'm coming from the D1 where things were much different, so please ignore my ignorance
Follow the instructions in that thread for installing the ROM. They are very clear and specific
I read them, lol was hoping to avoid them. As some roms can be applied over the top of one another. Thank you though

You can always try it ... just make a nandroid backup first, and let us know what happens. I doubt it would brick your phone, but you could be in force-close city.

Well those procedures were developed after hours of testing before Adrynalyne posted the ROM and radio. So if you want to discount all the hard work of the testers, go ahead and just flash the ROM.
I did it and it worked great. not saying that you should do it too, but I got lucky.
I also reflashed the radio after that.

The Purpose of this Forum (Please Read)

The purpose of this forum is for XDA members to post any ROMs they make, which are derived from existing Galaxy S II ROMs (within the scope of the rules). We listened to your feedback, in wanting to separate ROMs from derivative ROMs to avoid confusion and to protect the original creators (the chefs) of such ROMs, and to make it easier to find major developments.
This forum is for ROMs that aren't an original creation by you in terms of the underlying software, meaning, they've been either 1. developed with assistance from a kitchen or are 2. a re-skinning/re-themeing/minor adjustment of a particular ROM developed by someone else.
We welcome your derviative ROMs, as they give even more choice to XDA users. When you post in this forum, we ask that you be respectful of the original creator by following rule 12, particularly:
1. Linking back to the source ROM
2. Mention the creator of the ROM upon which your deriviative ROM is based.
Thank you for your cooperation
P.S. This is a bit of an experiment. Should it make sense, we'll roll it out to other forums on XDA.
Well, finally you can seperate the men from the boys... !! Nice thought..!!
Good idea, but how do I get to this ROM from the XDA app?
thanks

Personally I think this Derivative Rom subsection is a bit ridiculous. How does Litening Rom end up in that section. It was one of the first Rom's created for the SGS2 and sure it's a derivative of the original firmware but whose isn't. If that's the case why isn't Pusler_G2 Rom in there as well. With that line of thinking all Rom's should be placed in the derivative section except CM7, oh wait, but his is a derivative of AOSP. I think XDA's arbitrary judgement on what is a derivative or not needs some further consideration. IMO all your going to do is piss off developers with this new sub-section.

+1. Not a good idea. We need to be VERY clear on the rules here.. Right now, they don't seem to be clear, and or are not being applied correctly.
Anyone knows where Litening ROM is based from? Ive read the OP and saw litening is included. Im just curious
I like the idea of tidying up the fourm there alot of threads and alot of ROMS coming out.
I think that you would need to make clear rule on which section a new or current ROM should be in.
The main example which seems to be going on is between VillanROM and LightngPRO. They did appear near the same time, we know that Villian came first but they are each the individuals work are they not?
In creating the seperation you might end up giving the impression that one ROM is better than another.
Could you not make splits like Samsung ROMS/ASOP/Kernels?
Themes already have their own section.

They are meaning that if it is a derrivative of another members ROM, not if it is made from the stock ROM, it is obvious that they have to be derrived from somewhere. and silly to say that all ROMs should be in here because they come from stock.
from what i can tell the section is trying to protect the work of ROM makers, by highlight the original work and moving works based on a ROM to this section.
Say if i took Villian ROM, adviced people to use Jame Bonds Kernel not CF. Themed it and removed some app. i have made a release but it is not my work the base was villian, so it was derived from that. hence it would go in this section.
EDIT: But i still think the hard part of a section like this is telling what the ROM was derived from. Who is going to do the checking

Exactly my point mate!
That's why it is pointless...
I'd like to point out that my rom is not derived at all, i even explained in my OP what was my IDEA and how i was able to get somethings new compared to other custom ROM.
It is the first rom based on XXKG1 release with HW accelerated browser, and it's my own experiment to built an Hybrid ROM (deodexed/odexed). In addition i am using a new kernel developed by angelom in italy!
I did everythings starting from the official (samfirmware) release XXKG1. I didn't use kitchen for theming i have done it by myself, if you don't believe me you can double check it in my Italian Blog that i realized video tutorials on how to theme for LG Dual!
That said, of course each developer use some cool stuff or mod that have been shared here, otherwise what's the point to have a developers community???
Even if there is some mod ready to be included inside a ROM, i always prefer to decompile things do a reverse engineering on smali code and remake mods by me in order to assure that stuff won't break things in my ROM (i.e. FC)
Sorry, but i like to be fair and i wanted to write it down!

You are absolutely right, there are many dev who have done extraordinary things with their roms and put a lot of hours on their rom making. the only thing that has happened now is that you must go to two different places to look up different rom.
Agree. The Development forum is too big and confusing. It better be split in to:-
1) Samsung-StockROM-Mods (Insanity, VillainROM etc)
2) AOSP/Cyanogen-Based (MIUI, CM7 etc..)
3) Kernels
The so called derivatives/themer's ROMs should ideally be pushed to a sub-forum under Themes.
I don't like this idea. Somebody is bumping up his/her ego for nothing.
Mods/admins are creating illusion for first class and second class roms.
Just my two euros.

i like your idea, just gonna modify to my tastes
1) Roms (subforum)
2) Kernels (subforum)
3) Other Dev stuff (WIP, Guides etc) (this is main forum)
this way there can be no bias towards anything or anyone. It makes it easier to find either the deisred rom and/or kernel

ROMs poll

I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.

I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.

[Q] Which ROM Do U Like Best? I want some advice.

First of all, I need to thank for all the ROM makers.
I'm a rookie of 9300... I want to flash a perfect ROM... So far I've tried Revolution HD, Omega and some other ROMs... Each of them has its advantage. Well, I haven't tried 411 ROMs. All I flashed are 404 ROMs. I just want a stable, smooth and battery friendly ROM.
I want to hear your advice. Which 404 ROM do you like best? And how about 411?
There are too many excellent ROMs!!! I just can't make the decision...
These kind of posts are not allowed on xda.
The best ROM is subjective.
Read through the OP of ROM threads and make your decision that way.

You misunderstood me, bro. I just want some suggestions. I know there's no best ROM. All of them are excellent. I asked which do you LIKE best, not which IS the best.
I admit there was something unclear, or something wrong in my post. I changed it a little. Anyway, I mean no harm.
Every GS3 phone is not 100% same. Two people with same rom may not have same user experience. Keep flashing until you found the one you like most.
Happy flashing

I don't think the OP asked for 'the' best ROM, he said, "I want to hear your advice. Which 404 ROM do you like best? And how about 411?" Seems to me that has opinion built in, not calling for some kind of judgement as to what is the only 'best' one.
@owensnoopy - Start with what you want from your phone. Use the ROM threads to work out what things are being altered or removed or added and see if you want those things or not.
Have a back-out plan - if the ROM you install isn't what you want, what is your fallback ROM? So far I have made sure I've got the stock version of the custom one I am flashing - my fallback is to that rather than going back to something I've already decided I want an improvement on...
I just flashed the 4.1.1 leak from Sammobile - seems to be performing well so far and my backups restored and (so far) haven't had the weird **** I saw with a couple of the custom ROMs I tried. I'm using Slaphead20's linked spreadsheet to work out what I want to remove. Once I have it how I want I'll save it out and tr4y some of the others coming in - DLI5 is leaked and will have custom ROMs based on it soon.
From Sammobile...
We of SamMobile would like to give you the latest I9300XXDLI5 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Test firmware for the Galaxy S III. I9300XXDLI5 is the most stable leak EVER. Almost all issues from the previous TEST builds have been fixed and we are very happy with this build.
This build is very much near perfect so we believe that Samsung will actually start rolling out the Official Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S III very soon. The day Samsung starts to roll out the official update you will be able to install the latest update through Kies or OTA update. We are getting leaks almost everyday so we believe that the final Official Jelly Bean update will be released in the next week.

I think the only way to have your 'perfect' ROM is to install something close to what you want and mod it for your own use.

I really like Wanam v2.3... It's smooth and battery friendly. You could also try different combinations of rom and kernel, that is one of the greatest things of android.
I'm addicted to flash right now! Just try!
OP, I understand you are just trying to get input, but opinions will vary, and so will how the rom runs on a particular phone. This will only cause problems here, so before it does I'm going to close this. Please try them out for yourself. :good:

[Q] Which Rom is BEST for my needs?

Hello there. So, I want to try and find a rom that works best for what I need it for, but rather than take weeks to experiment with all the different roms out right now, I thought I'd ask the public and see what you all think.
What I use/want my phone for, in order of importance:
1) Stability (I work for a Doctor's Office. I can't have my phone freezing on me AT ALL. I need to be able to be reached 100% of the time).
2) 4G Tether (I use at least 20-30Gb of 4G data a month MINIMUM. It needs to have stable 4G. I am able to play Battlefield 3 on my PC with no lag/bad ping with my current 4G coverage).
3) Balance between speed and battery life.
4) Looks "cool." This isn't very important to me though if everything else works.
And that's all I can really think of at the moment.
With this in mind, which rom/kernel setup would be best for me?
I REALLY appreciate any response. <3.
EDIT: I have CDMA.
Before this gets locked... look up Cool ICS ROM in the CDMA development thread. That should work wonders

Its not posted in the rules. Papa has stated that these threads are not allowed because its based on opinions and it has the potential to start flame wars between members and or devs. Just to let you know, evo 3d is notorious for battery drain. You will have to experiment with kernel settings. Setup your memory tasks. Shut off stuff like bluetooth , WiFi, auto sync. Email and Facebook are notorious battery drainers. Try an extended battery or carry a spare one.

It's a moderator preference (aka rule) that we don't have "best" or "favorite" ROM or kernel threads in the Evo 3D XDA forums. We setup a ROM information thread in the General Forum and if you repost you requirements there someone can make some suggestions for ROM's you might want to try.
