[Q] Which Rom is BEST for my needs? - HTC EVO 3D

Hello there. So, I want to try and find a rom that works best for what I need it for, but rather than take weeks to experiment with all the different roms out right now, I thought I'd ask the public and see what you all think.
What I use/want my phone for, in order of importance:
1) Stability (I work for a Doctor's Office. I can't have my phone freezing on me AT ALL. I need to be able to be reached 100% of the time).
2) 4G Tether (I use at least 20-30Gb of 4G data a month MINIMUM. It needs to have stable 4G. I am able to play Battlefield 3 on my PC with no lag/bad ping with my current 4G coverage).
3) Balance between speed and battery life.
4) Looks "cool." This isn't very important to me though if everything else works.
And that's all I can really think of at the moment.
With this in mind, which rom/kernel setup would be best for me?
I REALLY appreciate any response. <3.
EDIT: I have CDMA.

Before this gets locked... look up Cool ICS ROM in the CDMA development thread. That should work wonders

Smurflocked in 3, 2, 1,...

I went through the rules and I don't know why my thread would be locked? =-X. Which rule did I break for future reference then? I apologize in advance.
And I tried Cool ICS Rom at one point. I wasn't impressed with the battery life though. But this was a while back. Has a lot gone into the development and stability of ICS now?

Yeah. Most not if all ICS ROMs are stable

Its not posted in the rules. Papa has stated that these threads are not allowed because its based on opinions and it has the potential to start flame wars between members and or devs. Just to let you know, evo 3d is notorious for battery drain. You will have to experiment with kernel settings. Setup your memory tasks. Shut off stuff like bluetooth , WiFi, auto sync. Email and Facebook are notorious battery drainers. Try an extended battery or carry a spare one.

It's a moderator preference (aka rule) that we don't have "best" or "favorite" ROM or kernel threads in the Evo 3D XDA forums. We setup a ROM information thread in the General Forum and if you repost you requirements there someone can make some suggestions for ROM's you might want to try.

ROMs poll

I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

Why do these stupid threads keep happening? No one can tell you what ROM to run but you. These threads get closed for a reason.

Are you seriously whining because someone asked for other users OPINIONS on an internet forum? OMG close the thread quick! We cant have people discussing which roms they like!

These threads are clearly made just to annoy you Miami. They don't really want anyone else opinion.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.
Every quit your *****in'
ANYWAY
I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

But we already have a thread with everyone posting what version of Android and what rom they are using. Why do we need another?
SHOstock, is pretty fast and stable, and it still getting updates,, CM7 is awesome but they never fix the issue with the video codecs for our phone so if you have a lot of videos taken with your stock OS you will have to delete those from you SD card.

In the ops defense, the other one appears to be more based on Android version,, however you are correct that people go on to discuss the actual ROM they're running.
As for the people quoting Miami, well maybe they're just growing tired of his condescending posts
Back on topic, currently I'm using turkbey v 32 and like it
Sammy rebuilds or cm7/miu hrmmm cm7/miui k thx =]
UnNamed 1.3.2 for me works great. Went to 2.2.1, but the battery life wasn't as good, i did dig the ICS touches. Does anyone know if flashing the KH7 modem on UnNamed 2.2.1 will fix the wifi drain?

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.

Switched to the EVO, need a point in the right direction

So, ive made a big switch. I went from a Captivate with 2.3, to my EVO 3D. Im currently running on 2.3.4 and Hboot 1.49.
Im looking to root the dev so i can remove some of the onboard rogers crap. Stuff in the background is running when i don't want it to. And some of the games and junk on here, i just want to get rid of.
Im reading several threads, but none of them are specific enough. Can someone point me to the proper rooting thread for this build? I dont plan on using a ROM, this OS is stable as it is.
As well, can someone recommend me an Antivirus? Ive heard of people starting to use these, maybe someone can suggest me one.
Thanks in advance,
-Dan

Apparently you haven't read the important threads, otherwise you would have posted this in the right forum :')
Antivirus is overrated AFAIK, it's pretty much only an issue if you plan on installing unknown APKs or using third party app stores. I've been hacked once when I installed an unknown APK on my tablet, which resulted in a password reset of my Google account because my credentials were compromised and some prick attempted to log in to my account from Argentinia
I've looked at the other forum regulations and this was the one that came the closest to the subject. Then again, i also haven't been on the forum for about 6-9 months.
If someone can direct this thread to the proper section that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

this forum is for ROM development. Your thread is about a question you have. That means this thread should go into Q&A (I honestly feel sorry for doing this, the Q&A forum is a very dark place where you can easily lose your mind among the imbeciles)
Definitively off dev thread ;-)
Depending on your hboot version many subprocesses are related.
My advise is to precisely indentify tour default settings then you will easily find out your happiness to clean what you dont want.
Btw, in dev section there are severals cleaned stock roms.
Depending on what you are looking for and consequences (root needed, s off, ...), make tour choice and enjoy.
Personnaly my favorite for daily usage is the Mwakious 3d one, but official ics update is coming since this morning all around the world (do not know for Roget)
Jump and enjoy this really Nice and Effective toy.

Well, ill take a closer look around and see what may benefit me. As stated before, im on Hboot 1.49. Im used to rooting and customizing my Captivate, not exactly the same as the HTC, thats for sure.
moved to q&a as this is not development. if you did not develop anything then do not post in the development section

I like the anti-theft features of Lookout, but I prefer the other features (especially with regard to root features) of Avast. Right now though, I'm not running any.

Which rom is recomended to be daily driver with everything working

For me Unlocked Potential was very stable, basically all or most ICS ROMs work with zero to little problems. I've had quite a few with CM10.
Sent from my Rooted HTCEVOV4G running CM10.1 WFTN.
If anyone who sees this has no real interest in flashing and testing different roms, and simply want a "microwave" solution, then disregard my block of text below. This is not a shot against anyone, just simple advice being shared.
My response whenever people ask this question is this: you can try one at a time, so why not try as many as you can?
How would you know if any Rom is the best without knowing what makes it better than the other Roms in the first place? Not to mention that every user has their personal preferences, likes, and dislikes. Some like simple roms while others prefer the bells and whistles. You must see what you lime for yourself.
Please understand, Rom testing IS time consuming when testing the options and checking for speed, smoothness, stability, functionality, etc., but it is well worth it. You build your knowledge base, too. Asking for someone to tell you the best rom is taking the easy way out, guided by a biased opinion that is likely to change between most responses that you receive. Unless, of course, as I said before, you have no interest in this kind of thing, and you just want a rom that works. If so...then do whatever rocks your boat.

A good website for roms is
http://galaxys2root.com/tag/sgh-t989-roms/
There are videos posted for most roms reviewing the features, speed, stability, visuals, and overall feel of each rom.
And FYI, GB roms tend to be more stable than ICS, and DEFINITELY JB, but you gain more functionality and lose stability with each step up. Keep that in mind.

Questions such as these are not allowed. As the user above me mentioned, just download and try for yourself.
Mods close this.

What's wrong is that the Evo 3D forums do not allow favorite ROM threads. You can try posting your requirements in this thread per the instructions in the OP and someone will probably provide feedback.

My favorites are cyanogen based roms, but there are some bugs in cm 10.1 (bluetooth etc)
As stated above best Rom threads are frowned upon to many variables to say one Rom is hands down the best Rom.

Battery stats thread (custom rom only)

I understand there is probably another thread doing this at the moment, but not solely custom roms.
The reason i want two seperate threads (if it is okay for the moderators) is simply due to the fact that there seems to be a difference between stock roms and custom roms. Therefor to more easily see the difference i hearby create this thread.
I would greatly appreciate it, and im sure others would too, if you post:
1. Your rom
2. Your kernel
3. 4g/3g and Wlan usage.
Ofcoure, none of the above 3 above mentioned points are obligatory, just thought it would be a nice source of information to keep it nice and clean(understandable).
Screen shots are very welcome.
Let us get this thread rolling guys!

First, this is the development forum and you should be posting in general or q&a. If you did that you would see there are so many threads with this exact same question. The same response would be, "please dont submit this type of question".
This has a tendancy to lead folk into pitting one persons work against anothers with harsh criticism.
This also tells me you are not reading. Any bugs you list are either already known about rom or are due to an unclean process of flashing.
My suggestion is decide what type of user your sister is and read up on some roms to see if the suit her needs. Every phone is going to run every rom with different degrees of success.
Make sure your process is clean and take some for a test drive. Let them settle for a day or two though to give it a fair chance.
Keep us posted.

Maybe a moderator could move it to the general threads. Please dont take my post harshly. I certainly would not be flashing anything for my sister, but maybe you get along better with yours. I just wouldnt want to be responsible for maintaining her phone if she is going to be finicky about something.
Just a heads up on the battery stats though.....the more recent your OS is, your battery life will dwindle. Even if she is the most moderate user, expect to charge every night. Your not going to get better life than anybody else.
But nobody in development will be able to help unless your flashing is as clean as you can.

Moved, and as "Best" can only be determined by the individual user, and as all the roms here are excellent and as XDA is not a support site - members are expected to make this decision on their own.
