Favorite Rom - HTC EVO 3D

Which rom is recomended to be daily driver with everything working
Tested some of the aosp roms and found them not to be stable yet for every day use .
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

For me Unlocked Potential was very stable, basically all or most ICS ROMs work with zero to little problems. I've had quite a few with CM10.
Sent from my Rooted HTCEVOV4G running CM10.1 WFTN.

If anyone who sees this has no real interest in flashing and testing different roms, and simply want a "microwave" solution, then disregard my block of text below. This is not a shot against anyone, just simple advice being shared.
My response whenever people ask this question is this: you can try one at a time, so why not try as many as you can?
How would you know if any Rom is the best without knowing what makes it better than the other Roms in the first place? Not to mention that every user has their personal preferences, likes, and dislikes. Some like simple roms while others prefer the bells and whistles. You must see what you lime for yourself.
Please understand, Rom testing IS time consuming when testing the options and checking for speed, smoothness, stability, functionality, etc., but it is well worth it. You build your knowledge base, too. Asking for someone to tell you the best rom is taking the easy way out, guided by a biased opinion that is likely to change between most responses that you receive. Unless, of course, as I said before, you have no interest in this kind of thing, and you just want a rom that works. If so...then do whatever rocks your boat.

A good website for roms is
http://galaxys2root.com/tag/sgh-t989-roms/
There are videos posted for most roms reviewing the features, speed, stability, visuals, and overall feel of each rom.
And FYI, GB roms tend to be more stable than ICS, and DEFINITELY JB, but you gain more functionality and lose stability with each step up. Keep that in mind.

Questions such as these are not allowed. As the user above me mentioned, just download and try for yourself.
Mods close this.

My favorite rom is... the one that gets these threads to stop.

There is nothing wrong with asking these questions. Plus the people who replied here.
Did you guys tested every single rom out here , if thats the case thats great .

What's wrong is that the Evo 3D forums do not allow favorite ROM threads. You can try posting your requirements in this thread per the instructions in the OP and someone will probably provide feedback.
ramjet73

My favorites are cyanogen based roms, but there are some bugs in cm 10.1 (bluetooth etc)

As stated above best Rom threads are frowned upon to many variables to say one Rom is hands down the best Rom.

Best ROM for my nephew?

My nephew has invested in a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I've finally convinced him to root it and flash a custom rom... I have a HTC G2 and there's like 6-8 roms to choose from... And everyone of them has a different thing going for them... Like one of them is Sense 2.1, one is clean MIUI and some are mods with MIUI, some CM7-mods and a couple of Sense 3.5's and one hybrid Sense 2.1+3.0...
What I'm trying to say is, its a jungle out there... And I'd really like to help my nephew get a good and updated phone..
So what are the different 'deal-breakers' on your different ROMs? Which is the best ROM in your opinion?
(wrong catagory.. should be in Q&A.. sry..)
My opinion is that we know nothing about your nephew, therefore can't possibly make recommendations for him.

That wasn't quite what I was asking for...
But, if you insist: He's 22 years old, lives with his girlfriend on 21 years in a 2-room apartment.. He works out 2-3 times a week with his younger brother... He like WOW... He was once a big Ogamer... He goes to college.. Dunno what he studies, but something with computers... He hacked his ps3 earlier this years... He likes dubstep and mojitos... Anything else you need to know, to tell me your opinion about what ROM you think is best???
I recommend the stock ROM.
Cognition is a really fast stock-based ROM. For me, it feels very fast and works really well.

Ok, so you say everyone has a different opinion, that's why it's hard to choose. My question is, how will this thread change any of that?
The thing with this "what's the best... " always end up in people recommending their current ROM.
There is truly only one way to find out what's best for you (or your nephew for that matter).
The next thing you want to know is probably what the best modem is to use with the SGS2.
XDA is (or at least was) about exploring and share experiences.
Past few years it's more becoming a demand and receive kind of thing.
Threads like this ones are always getting locked in the end.

Dude - Ignore the wankers.
Wankers - wouldn't it be easier to just ignore the post if you have nothing constructive to offer the guy? Rather than... wanking on him?
Ezzzkiel - The nice thing in SGS2-land is that there are a lot of great, stable ROMs with decent battery life. It benefited from a lot of the startup pains that we all suffered through on the original SGS. So although it may seem like a jungle, the reality is that it is an ice cream (sic) shop with lots of great flavors.
If your nephew is technically competent and enjoys mucking around with lots of options, I would recommend one of the following:
CheckROM is a modified Samsung ROM and has a nice KitchenPro app that allows you to easily change kernels, modems, themes, apps, boot animations, etc. It also has OTA updates. I used it for quite a while and it has been stable, fast and virtually bug free.
CM7 continues to be a favorite among many folks. It is in good, but not perfect shape... but it is quite serviceable as an everyday ROM. You can modify pretty much everything you can imagine. Nightlies are available for flash freaks.
MIUI (and my favorite version - Galnet MIUI) is looking really great lately. I personally find the way it deals with notifications and replies very intuitive... even more so that CM7. Again, it has OTA updates which are handy. But it is very personal. Some people hate MIUI and some people love it.
If your nephew prefers to start with a basic flash and go ROM then Cognition, Criskelo, Batista, and about a half dozen others are excellent ROMs where everything works.
On all these ROMs the first thing I install is Go Launcher, so I have a common set of home screens that make it easy to navigate. Then I can explore the unique elements under the skin. Again, the choice of launcher is very personal. Many folks swear by Launcher Pro, ADW and others.
How can you forget to mention Villain ROM 3.0?
It's the best. Close to stock with it's own VillainTweak program.
See where this is going?

SGSII-land is like a different country... My oh my... I've heard XDA could be a harsh forum to wander, but I've only met kind and friendly users on the XDA-boards I usually look at..
Excuse me for asking you about your opinion about which ROM you find best to the SGS... Thx for the constructive posts, those of you who took time to makes such ones...
I'll find my own way through this damp and moist swamp of ROMs...

I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.

I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.

would u mind if u tell me which are senseless and which one have sense ( the ones that have HTC sense on them) plz

What do you mean by "top rom"? The most downloaded? The latest software? The fastest?
Either way, like I tell everyone who asks this, there is no "best rom" for everyone. Everyone has different needs/wants in a rom. The beauty of rooting is you can try out a rom for a few days, and if you don't like it, flash another. Just try out a few and see what you like.

I have been using Fresh. I don't know if it is the best or even good. It works well for me and I need my phone for grown-up (work) things, so I don't have time to try them all out. I wish someone would tell me which one is great and uses sense and has the most going for it.
Lol stock builds you tend to squeeze some nice battery life from. But again it boils down to what the op prefers.
Nothin is top lol. Most devs offer support if you get stuck . I offer help on my own builds or to whoever needs help . I bounce around here.
Most builds have dates that tell you how new it is. If you go to a overclocked rom your battery life won't be the best. Just depends on what you want.

You're asking us to go research every ROM for 2011 and 2012 and rank them in order for the 3d? Sorry brah. You could probably take a good guess by clicking on the development section, and see which ones are constantly posted to (popularity), which translates to downloads.

I think everybody is looking for a little wondering different in a ROM, so the answer to your question is 100% subjective.
After I rooted my 3vo, I flashed a new ROM nearly every 1-2 weeks, looking for that "perfect" ROM.
I have found two that I like enough to hold onto:
CleanRom
Viper
Just for the record, there are many ROMs I have not tried, so that's not to say there aren't others just as good.

There isn't a good way to find that answer since every rom is downloaded a insane amount and no one keeps track of downloads.... Devs are too busy whippin new things up
I agree with everyone and no one. MIUI is pretty popular I personally know about 15 people who are running that. Viper is another good one. Until we get something like Google Play for ROM's no one will ever know the answer. I have seen several blogs and what not that are titled something like "MOST POPULAR ROM's" but after reading them it would seem that they are ALL based on opinion and nothing more. I use more broken ROM's then ones where everything works so if there where a pole that met your criteria I wouldn't even be able to vote!
Which that the admins would start tracking the download and views it would make it so much easier to search

Its best not to ask about which rom is the best as everyone has different prefernces.
But i will answer from my opinion.
I use Sotmax Rom. Its currently at v12. Its a stock look and feel rom.
Has plenty of mods.
Its an aroma installer so you can pick and choose which mods to add.
Ive been using it since the very early days and never had any problems.
Great support in the thread aswell.
The developer is always online and more than ready to help out. And releases roms regularly

It totally depends on you mate. Everyone has their own tastes. I personally like ultima ROM because there are a lot of customisation options available in that ROM. It is pretty stable and smooth. You literally choose everything that you want in your phone...
Moreover if you want your phone to be extremely smooth then I suggest you to try Liquidsmooth ROM. I used it and I had no lag ever in my phone not even once. Extremely smooth.

The rules as posted .
There has been so many "Which is the best ROM?" and "Which is the best kernel?" threads lately.
This is a reminder.. these kind of threads are NOT allowed.
Why are they not allowed? Well because that the best rom and kernel for me might be the worst for someone else. It's subjective. It's like asking who the hottest girl in the world is. Or which sports car is the best. If you ask 100 people you will get 100 different answers.
The best advice is to try them all and figure out which one is best for YOU and YOUR needs. Not based on what's best for someone else.
I have just been closing these threads but I'm going to start to hand out official warnings if it continues.
Best ROM thread = Thread closed

[Q] Unable to find stable ROM for Note (Samsung ROM included)

Hey All,
First, and most importantly, I would like to say hello and THANKS to all of the people on this forum and devs who put together and support CFW's. You all do great jobs, and should be proud of your work.
Second, I have not posted here before since my questions were always answered with a search of the forums. This time it is not the case as I will explain.
I have a Galaxy note from Bell and I think it is an awesome piece of hardware (so much so I also bought a Note 10.1). I was quite happy with it for a long time but my patience for touchwiz eventually wore thin. Turning on the phone to make a call or text and having to wait while the phone finishes some phantom background task was incredibly annoying. Why does Samsung make great hardware and then ruin it with bloatware and junk?
This led me to to find a CFW which did not have this issue. I tried several and was blown away by the quality and completeness of these roms. They solved so many problems and did things the way the should have been done in the first place. I was in heaven. There was just one problem...stability. None of them slowed to a crawl and were always blisteringly fast, but the phone would lock up and reboot once every day or 2. This was not acceptable for a phone which is needed for work and emergencies. I would assume that the small number of these phones makes it less likely for the roms to be tested with them to the same extent as for a Note 2 or S3. I have even tried touchwiz-based roms which do not crash, but have the same occasional unresponsiveness of the samsung original.
So here is my question: has anyone found a rom which is STABLE in a real way? When I search I see people who say roms are stable but they never qualify their opinion with crash frequency so it remains a purely relative term. I love this phone and would really love to have a rom like PAC with all of its awesomeness but stability is king for me.
Here is what I have tried, full wipes done before each flash:
Cyanogenmod 10.0, 10.1
PAC rom
Padawan
Blackstar Blackjelly, 2 different versions
Thanks.
Jellybean Sandwich is really fantastic. It's based on ICS, so if you require Jellybean specific features it might not be for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356408
Sent from my Samsung SGH-I717 (Galaxy Note)
How would one "qualify" their opinion with "crash frequency" if the rom they are using doesn't crash? There are many more roms than the ones you have listed.
Also, it has been my exprience that the 4.3 roms are very stable.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using xda app-developers app
I also second Jellybean sandwhich. It's great for stability, and since you would like to know to what extent I mean "stable" then this is what I mean...this ROM has NEVER crashed or rebooted on me, and for countless other users. It is an ICS based rom, with added jellybean features. It's a lightweight ROM, with not as many features as say AOKP, but many of those features can be added with "Xposed Mod" if you've ever used it. So you get the "speed" of jellybean, with the absolute stability of ICS. I highly recommend you try it out. People who have had trouble with the ROM (there are very few) have all induced the problems on their own, or probably have faulty hardware. I can vouch that if you wipe clean, and flash correctly everything will work right out of the box, except USB mount (which there is a fix to make it work), and a bug that gives you and "sd card damaged" notification when nothing is really wrong.
EDIT: If you want a fast touchwiz based ROM that is not necessarily Jellybean. I recommend Novena ROM. It's an older ROM but one of the fastest ROMs you can get for our phone. You may have to look on the second page in the development section as it hasn't been updated in months
Go to an ICS rom if you want speed and stability. No matter what anyone on these forums will say, you cannot, cannot, cannot find speed and stability in ANY jb rom. Some may have stability, but lack speed. If you just use them [jb roms] for a while, you can forget that they aren't fast and become accustomed to them, but if you touch an ICS ROM or a newer galaxy phone, you'll quickly be reminded that you're delusional.
both Touchwiz Rom's are stable. they are rocks and will not give you a random reboot. if you have read like you said, than you may have even seen one of several postings in the Padawan tread. if you haven't.......p355-378 is a good read and will lay out some solid fundamental settings which would lead you to nirvana.
many also seem to overlook one 4.2 rom, as even I did for the longest time. Sons of Android or SOA is the ONLY 4.2 rom out there that I got no randoms with and did not need to seek an alternate kernel.
those are just 2 roms. everyone will tell you, every phone is a bit different. finding a rom that is going to satisfy everyone the same. its like voting for a President now and days. you don't really vote for the one you want anymore, its voting for the lesser of two evils. everybody knows, you cant have good without evil.
you are getting some good personal opinions here. it sounds like you know what your looking for, but you have yet to decide as to what you are willing to tolerate. we all tolerate something for the rom that we want. what evil are you willing to tolerate? only you can answer
me........stability is what I seek, and lack of some bells and whistles is what I tolerate. as mentioned previously, I get some of that back with Xposed and keep my stability.
good luck my friend
Honestly, I'm using a stock deodexed/debloated ROM. Works just fine for me.
SkeletonKey, Padawan, JellyBeer, Prophylactic are all also great ones that I personally used a lot.
Your mileage may vary though.

You know Cap, speaking of Sons of Android, you wouldn't happen to have that zip would you? that may be one of the only ROMs I don't seem to have on my computer. would love to give it a reflash.

I've been on Revolt for 2 weeks and no crashes. The only 'bug' is that sometimes when you press PWR to activate the phone, the capacitive buttons highlight but the screen stays blank. Press PWR twice (once to turn 'off' and again to turn back on) and you'll see the lock screen.
I was playing with the tweaks a lot, so this 'bug' could just be from something I did. Other than that it's blistering fast compared to Bell stock (yes, I'm on Bell too and feel your pain) and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Hey All,
First, and most importantly, I would like to say hello and THANKS to all of the people on this forum and devs who put together and support CFW's.
Thanks.

The current beanstalk is smooth and stable.
There is also a new 4.3 ROM in the Q&A section that has been extremely stable on my phone the past two days. The kernel built into the ROM is a version I beleive of the Cl3Kener kernel and can be OC'd and what not. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448069
