I had terrible battery performance as well. Seemed like 6 hours and it would be dead.
I reflashed, rooted, deodexed, and installed the ginberbreak (bell) theme, froze, and now am getting normal battery performance again

Here's what I did
1. Flash Telstra
2. Root using Gingerbreak (using this threads method, not the Gingerbreak APK)
3. Deodex (using the manual method in this thread)
4. Install CWM (from here)
5. Install Gingerbread for Bell (via the CWM method here)

Yes, good point I also froze the bloat using Titanium Backup. Used the comprehensive list from this thread
Prior to freezing I also uninstalled as much of the Telstra app's as I could under Manage Applications (Foxtel, etc.)

well theres a lot of old info out there, having a hard time sorting some of this stuff out!
I have a stock Eris that came from Verizon with 2.1 on it already. I'd like to root it, but does that mean I have to install a custom ROM? or is there a way to get root with the ROM thats already on the phone? Sorry noob questions I know but I've read over the adb command stuff and it sound easy, but I'd like some clarification on what each command does and what each file is for, etc...I have the sdk set up already on my computer. I hear stuff about bootloader versions, radio versions and stuff too, does this stuff get modified as well during this process? and if so, is there a way to revert to 100% stock if I have to send it in for warranty or insurance? keep in mind this phone already had 2.1 from verizon, if that matters.
You can root your phone using jcase's 1 click root app from the market all you have to do is run the app, reboot into recovery by holding power and volume up or down(mine ia volume up my roomates is volume down) and flash the rootme.zip file the app places on your sd card. Doing this will root your current os and you will not lose any data. At that point you can wipe and flash a custom rom instead of the rootme.zip by having one downloaded and already on your sd card. Make sure its not in a folder. If you want to do things like overclocking you will need a custom rom as the stock kernel does not support it. You can also just flash a new kernel its the same as flashing a rom. Anyway check out jcase one click root thread in the eris development section for more detailed instructions and on youtube lostelement has some great videos showing how to root the eris and flash a rom step by step. Hope this helps.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
can you still root this eris using the command terminal? or do I have to do the 1-click method? and as far as returning the phone to 100% stock, is there a RUU program that will restore everything to stock? I've seen some threads but it seems like many of the download links are getting broken for some reason?
EDIT: also, jcase's 1-click method installs Amon's recovery correct? and this file..."rootme.zip" is this like a "patch" that is applied to the current OS to provide root, whereas flashing a new custom rom will delete and replace everything but this custom rom has been writtn to provide root access already? sorry so many questions, just trying to get a handle on this before I try it and do something stupid/expensive haha
Yes there are ruu's to go back to stock. I believe you can still use the terminal but one click root is easier and it does give you amon ra recovery. Flashing rootme.zip will root your stock os and give you superuser permissions app which allows you to manage what apps are granted root access.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
And customs roms are all ready to for root. If your flashing a custom rom you don't need to flash rootme.zip.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Does flashing custom roms change the hboot version or the radio version? Also for some reason when I do the vol-up+end when I power on it shows a screen with a red triangle with an exclamation point, is this normal until I flash the new recovery image?
Yea that's normal until you flash a new recovery and the roms don't affect the radio or hboot. They must be flashed separately. Be very careful flashing a radio. A bad radio flash is the easiest way to brick your phone.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
probably wont touch the radio or hboot, not many ppl seem to need to. as far as the RUU goes, it will re-flash the recovery and the rom back to the same as they were out-of-box correct? wondering if anybody has a link to this file, all links i've found are broken
I haven't had to use it but from what I understand its an executable file that you run on your pc while your phone is plugged in via usb. If you need it im sure someone would be able to post a fresh link or email it to you.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
thx steve for all your help so far If anybody has a link to the RUU for the official original 2.1 eris, email it to me or link in this thread, also wondering if theres a link to the official 2.1 ROM (the non-root version and not the leak versions, the "official" OTA is what I mean.) In case something bad happens with a ROM I install that i have the original to flash, thay way I can keep Amon's recovery on the phone instead of using the RUU, personally having a hard time finding it. seems liek all the stock roms are labeled PB00IMG?
After you root, in amonra you can do a nandroid backup, which will completely back up everything on your phone to your sd card. If you don't like a rom or are having problems you can just recover your backup and your phone will be as it was when you made the backup. I keep nandroids of a few different roms and just switch between them sometimes.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
So is there any advantage at all to being rooted on the stock rom? That's where I am now. I will probably stay there for a while until I decide what ROM I want to try. I installed an overclocking widget from the marketplace just to try it out, but from the sounds of this thread, its a waste of time with the stock rom.
Rooted on a stock Rom sucks. Battery life compared to a froyo based Rom is exponentially better imo. Nonsensikal vanilla v7 was the Rom of choice but I'm back to stock because I have to send the phone back to VZW

It's really not that difficult one click Eris root run rootme.zip download and extract the Rom of your choice. Run amon ras recovery nandroid backup wipe flash new Rom and voila. Easy as pie.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
I did the one click Eris root already, and just applied the rootme.zip. So installing a new rom would mean copying it to the root of the SD card, rebooting and holding down the volume key and then picking that new zip file, correct? I don't know what that amon ras recovery thingy is. Is that part of rom installation, or something that I need to acquire separately?
You need to copy the Rom to your SD card and use estrongs file explorer download from market and long press on the .zip file it will pull up a menu that gives you some options. Extract from the .zip file and hit ok no new path is needed. Now that yuu have the file on your SD card reboot and go to recovery nandroid backup then wipe then flash from zip. After it unpacked and loads then it will prompt you to reboot hit okay and let it do its thing. I'm going to end all this with saying double check the forums for how tos and I'm not responsible for a bricked phone do this at your own risk but have fun itsreally not that difficult

there must be a way to do this without flashing back to stock....
use root manager's system app uninstaller and remove MobileAP.apk
you can do it with the new task manager in ji6
I tried to uninstall using Root Manager but It didn't work. It only makes Mobile AP useless but still in my wireless setting and I'm having force close problems because of it. I uninstalled the apk. and the data files but no luck.

as long you're rooted, you will not be able to successfully install the ota update. my gf's phone was semi bricked while two of her friend's with non rooted vibrant updated fine.
After removing the MobileAP.apk, try going into recovery and clearing cache.

Dont worry about the APP. I would personally recommend you keep it on your phone. You never know when you might need it. Unless you are running out of space.
Secondly, why are you waiting for Tmobile to push the update to you, when you can just grab a copy in the dev section and install it through ODIN. This way you do not have to worry about stuck at boot up issues that others are complaining about.

No, Titanium Backup will pull all your app information, including system info/apps, on the initial start up. So you can install it AFTER the fact and it will still see it.
That being said, I just checked mine and it only shows Mobile AP Settings, I went ahead and Froze it (basically freezing it will remove the program as if it has been uninstalled and disable it even though it is still technically installed) and it won't let me use the AP anymore (it just FC's), but the menu item is still there.
FYI though, the OTA will wipe your current ROM which includes the AP and replace it with stock JI6 so it will remove it for you when you get the OTA.
Now that I have said all that....I used my search-fu for you and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7730798&postcount=84
Don't know if it will work, but it looks promising and is worth a shot. As always, be ready to get out ODIN if it bricks your phone. Good luck.
EDIT: I believe a flashable zip will be the only way to revert the mobile AP because it must be installed with a flashable zip. It isn't an APK like normal as it is actually embedded in the ROM itself. (Thus the built in menu options).

It's not going to be a problem. You may only be annoying by the I1900 when you boot your phone. I'm thinking of doing this as I cannot seem to get a full workday with relatively light use out of GB right now.
Anyway... where can I find the bootloaders for Froyo and is there a guide to make sure I do this in the right order. I haven't had any issues with all the various flashes and odins that I have done so far, but with CM7 on board I know that it's quite a bit different now.
I tried using the XDA search for bootloaders and basically got this an other similar threads.
I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990 which looks like I already had stock bootloader, but I wasn't sure if that is correct.
Yeah, that's the right place. Just click on the "Froyo Bootloader Revert to Vibrant" link to download the original bootloaders. It should be a .tar file. Flash through Odin with the same steps, but just use the Froyo BL .tar instead of the GB one and BOOM!
In like tube socks!
Oh yeah... don't forget that the button combo for the GB bootloaders is different. It's just volume up + power.
Extended Battery Mod
Using an aftermarket Extended Battery?
I have made 2 flash zips for Extended Battery Users. One for Stock Rooted, the other for CM9 0.5.1 (will update this one with each version released) These will make it so that your battery meter shows the proper amount of charge, rather than doing the dreaded 1% for 10 hours, then die suddenly.
GO HERE For the Files
Cheers!
Can we get one for Jokers CM9 build? I know you have one for MIUI but you said it only works for MIUI.
Well look at that!
Lol, Nice. Well I am actually going to try and flash this on my stockrom and see if it will stop the Non-Moto battery error. I will report back on whether or not it works.

Do you have android-sdk installed on your computer? If so, you need to navigate to your "platform-tools" folder, extract the framework-res.apk from this zip and place it in that folder. Plug in your phone to your computer and make sure that the phone is set to debugging mode enabled. Then go to start, and type in cmd and press enter. Navigate to your platform-tools folder by typing in cd\ c:\****\platform-tools (where **** is the path leading up to platform-tools) and press enter. Then type in the following: c:\****\platform-tools\adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework (again **** is the path up to platform-tools) and press enter. Then you're done.

CNA is far enough different that this won't work for it. Even though it's based on it, the framework files between CM9 and CNA are very different, as that's how each rom is unique. I'll post one for the latest CNA that's out in a little bit

is the MIUI 2.4.27 Extended Battery Mod can be used for atrix's miui v4?
thanks for reply~
I am done messing with this phone. I just want longer battery life. If the phone can be smooth as well, that would be great.
My plan is to flash one of the CWM backups running ICS (since the consensus seems to be that battery life is better on ICS). Or is the new V20f on par with ICS?
Anyways, once I have that sorted out, I will use TitaniumBackup to freeze as many bloatware apps as I can. Next, I'll flash the Rome v1.5 tweak (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301461). Finally, I'll install Nova Launcher.
Are there any other "safe" methods to optimize the phone (meaning, no multi-step maneuvers required to recover the phone in case of error)?
Argh!
Trying to restore my CWM backup gave an error in restoring /system! Now I can't get back into CWM and the LG Setup wizard crashes every time I turn the phone on!
Does the torture never end with this phone?
Do 10g rooted with Lelus method, install recovery, install init.d support for stock kernel, via CWM flash andrenaline_injector_rc3, ... profit?
edit here is the zip i used to install init.d support. there are many ways, but this works. dropbox.com/s/nwrna39jjw6fbgv/DooMLoRD-generic-init.d-support-v01.zip
This script will:
1) install generic init.d support
Before u begin:
1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
2) enable "USB DEBUGGING"
3) enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES"
4) make sure that u have busybox installed
Unzip files on PC, connect phone, type "adb devices" to make sure you're connected and then run the .bat file
I'm on 20f from 10g and battery life is better IMO. I've also removed all bloatware

I'm on 20F. Tried running the Rome v1.5 tweak, but doesn't seem to have taken. Next, flashed the tweak pack from artas182x. Removed bloatware, installed Du Battery and guess what? 15% drain overnight (11 hours) without using the phone. Pretty awful.

That is terrible. 10g ICS with moderate use i got two days. Im just about to flash from Cyanogenmod 10.1 back to 10g.
Update: Turning off WiFi has increased battery life. Went to 91% in 13 hours. Not great, but better than 84% in 11 hours.

I managed to deodex and zipalign my system/app and framework. I can share this via dev-host if you want.

So is this ICS only? I was about to run the bat and thought better to ask before doing something stupid.
