hi ive searched for a few hours and tried so many different sequences her eon the forums and for some reason i cant get odin3 1.78 to recognize my captivate... otherwise i would have an awesome Cyanogenmod 7 on it.
i rooted it and installed clockwork from the thread "how to install roms" under the dev threads (the big sticky) then attempted to install a custom rom through clockwork and it failed. now my original rom is messed up. i can load into it but android.phone continuously closes...i cant get odin to see my phone thus i cant reflash the original firmware....
yes i have drivers installed.
yes i have the AIO toolbox.
now for some reason i cannot get Odin to recognize my phone AT ALL (download/recovery/loaded). ive literally tried everything i can think of and to be honest i hope someone here can make me look stupid and help me fix it . ive flashed roms before back in the day with my tilt and cliq. but ive been out of the game for a very long time and lemme tell you im completely lost feeling.
im on windows 7 ultimate x86 fully updated.
ill be glad to donate a little bit for some success on just getting odin to recognize because i have everything. its just that stopping me..

I'll start by apoligizing have been reading threads till my eyes hurt got some understanding but not enough.
heres the situation. starting trying to mod my vibrant.
did well was running nero beta 2 and loved it.
tried to download and flash a different kernel in the hopes of overclocking ithought it was compatible with my rom and i dont know if it wasnt but my phone will not let me reboot. ive tryed to run my back up but it doesnt work.
can get into download and have odin3 v1.52 up but no idea of what pit file to use or where to get it same thing for the pda file or am i supposed to use something different?. need my phone back should have just enjoyed the nero.
not beyond donating for help. Again sorry ive been on it all morning and am just too stupid to get it

So I wanna say exactly what is my problems.
First of all, I rooted my phone when the version was 2.1 eclair and I did not use any custom rom I just used lagfix app
Secondary, I watched news that I was able to upgrade my phone to 2.2 froyo by official update. so I tried to update my version by kies mini without eliminating rooting system. the updating was working and my phone rebooted automatically but after I saw the hallmark as samsung galaxy s on the screen, my phone's screen was dark and I cannot see anything. Just sometimes it vibrated.
thirdly, I tried to recover by odin and official rom but it did not work.
at that time, odin stopped when it installed modem.bin (I used odin v1.0 first and I changed v1.7)
Finally, I posted my problems on this board and I got some suggestions from other great guys. so I tried 3 roms( T959UVJFD.tar, T959UVJI6.tar and another one) and I tried whole version odin to solve the problems. However, it did not work for me...........
WHatever I used different roms, odin always stopped when it installs modem.bin.... I think that is the most serious problem....
Please if you guys know how to solve this problems.... plz say me..... I will really appreciate guys..... Thanks

Be sure and download the correct files. And Please use the ODIN version I suggest.
I included videos and I suggest watching them to make sure you are not doing something silly.

Was there a lag fix in place when you tried to ODIN back to stock, My very first Rom I ever flashed I had OCLF in place and tried to ODIN back to the original files and it was a nightmare getting it to work. You can always blame TMO on there 2.2 update and they more than likely will give you a new phone, But follow ss10823's thread he has some good stuff out there.
I'm a longtime reader, don't post too much.
I'm in desperate need of help. If you're just going to flame me, please save that for a little bit so I don't have to sift through it to find some help.
I have the ROM addiction--I've flashed just about everything available for the Fascinate. I am a novice at best (i've fumbled my way through ADB before), but have never had any serious issues. Tried to flash EB01 modem through Odin (was at DI01 still somehow), and Odin froze. After 20 minutes I closed and disconnected my phone. It wouldn't boot after that. I was running the EC10 Rom and kernel (v2, before it became nameless). And I accidentally flashed the 3.0 clockwork, so I couldn't do anything through recovery.
I was trying Odin 1.3 from a Vista machine (not mine, I run Ubuntu) to begin with. Finally got my hands on a Windows 7 machine and Odin worked great. Restored to DI01, then flashed Superclean 2.9.2, and had the correct Clockwork. Less than a day later, Zeam (which I had as my default launcher) started force closing. Somehow Clockwork reverted back to 3.0, so all i could do was try fix permissions. Tried to odin restore again, and odin froze again, from the Windows 7 machine this time.
I've tried different USB cables and ports on three different computers (Windows 7 and two XP's. I can't get heimdall to recognize it in Ubuntu (might not have the drivers loaded properly there). Odin at least recognized the phone earlier, and it would start to flash. After 4 or 5 minutes the screen on my phone would go black and the flash would just freeze. Restarted the computer, reinstalled the drivers. Kept trying to flash. Then the screen started to change colors when it froze--always a solid color, but changed with different flash attempts. White once, pink once, and i think blue once.
I've been on IRC and received some tips, but it's hard to get sustained attention there. Especially since i'm a n00b. I've read every post I can find.
I NEED my phone. My girlfriend is out of the country right now, and that's how we communicate. Skype, chat, etc. It's killing me not to have my phone right now.
Can someone please help me out? And if you must flame me, how about wait until my phone is working please

Well i'm a noob too but... I have read you should use oem cables. I guess people have issues with non-oem ones. I don't know why odin shouldn't run though. Just try flashing the right cwm. You can either try odin or just flash it in cwm itself.

Exzackly--i was able to flash the correct CWM at one point but couldn't install a ROM through it. and now I can't connect to Odin at all.

Hi, Ok, so I am new at this and I have a samsung galaxy vibrant on tmobile...i got it and it was running eclair 2.1, I figured out how to root it and then upgraded to froyo 2.2. Now I am wanting to get either Bionix ROM or Nero V3. I have followed all the steps, got rommanager, did the flash clockworkmod recovery, dowloaded the zip file and put it in the root of my sd, but when i go to reboot, it wont run as clockwork, no matter how many times i try!
I read that it is because 2.2 has recovery e3 and i need e2...so it says t download a kernal that contains clockwork recovery but the problem is i cannot find one. I can find stuff all day long about the galaxy I9000 but nothing on the vibrant!
I have Odin and was wondering can I flash the rom straight to the phone?
My model number is SGH-T959, Kernel is 2.6.32.9, and build is FROYO.UVKB5.
Please help me, I really have no clue what I am doing, I just want my phone to run fast, get a nice looking theme for it, and not have to worry about it messing up and from what i have read the only way to that is to get a custom ROM and the only way to get themes is thru a custom ROM....
So if anyone can tell me how to go about getting my phone to recover using clockwork and any links i need to download the stuff I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!!

Ok so i just followed all of the directions on this sight on how to do it, i backed up my apps with titanium then put my phone in download mode with odin and tried to flash the kernal for my phone to upgrade it and on odin it just said on the screen part, modem, it was green and nothing else happened so i unplugged it because it wouldnt reboot even after waiting a while (10min) and then the screen just showed a broken link between phone and comp and wouldnt change, so i looked at how to restore it with odin and did that and now it will go to the download screen again but nothing else! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hey so, im getting really mad at my phone atm. Ive been trying to add a room to the phone after i rooted it using Odin.
version 2.3.5, the phone IS rooted, i can use clock work mod, change files with root explorer. etc

You're using stock recovery, not CWM recovery.
So e3 is stock recovery? How can i then get CWM recovery? I download it, flashed etc, but i still got the same e3 when i reboot my phone

Please read the sticky guide to rooting it will have link to chainfire thread follow instructions.. its far more simple than reads.
At the moment you still have stock kernel and no recovery due to this.

offff, im trying to read up and everything. But this isnt so easy for a guy coming from a Iphone to android.. ive rooted my phone using a guide on youtube.. The Phone is rooted, i used a file that was completely the same as i got just that it was rooted instead of stock... Guess i have to read a little more
You will likely run into issues if you try to flash CM7 from a CF-Root kernel from what *I've heard*.

What I'd do:
-run CF Root for a while; get to know the phone and what it can/can't do,
-back up your efs folder before you start flashing ROMs or other kernels,
-when you decide it's time for CM7 flash a Siyah kernel via CWM recovery,
-then flash CM7 paying particular attention to the instructions in the link.
So i think i got it now, or. Cyanogen mod 7 loops in the startup -.-..
What i did before is that i used odin, i should have just restarted my phone there.
Not going into Clockwork thingy and flash it, when i did that the phone just went back to e3.. Now i restarted the phone and got more options (cwm.based recovery v5.0.2.7)

Trying to sort this out -.- I prob just went full retarded with my phone.. I had Cyanogen version 7.1 on my sd card, tryed to update it. And didnt work, just loooppping..

Im really sorry for wasting your time with my noobness, i though when i finally got cwm recovery thingy to work i could finally install my cyanogen mod... But then something failed, i booted the phone, and it got stuck on the screen. Now only samsung galaxy s2 thingy shows. And nothing else happends.... Geeeeeeeeeez i shouldnt have messed around without knowing what to do, and i would have saved u guys some time...
update, The triangle is gone and everything. Im back to e3 but my phone just wont boot... I dont get it... sigh

Did you read the install instructions from the CM7 nightlies thread I linked you to?
Did you try to flash to CM7 from a CF Root kernel? (many/most aren't successful flashing CM7 from a CF Root kernel)
Did you flash it twice? (must flash it twice upon first install)
Your best bet now is to follow the directions that JJEgan linked you to to at least get your phone up and running again on stock firmware. Take it one step at a time and save any more modding for another day.

My kernels have been on 40 mb, because i picked the Stock Kernel, now i picked 'Nordic' Lets see if this works. This file is on 272 mb
