How is the GPS in JI6. Is it perfect like in iphone and other devices or is it still jumping on the road.

Is this a question or a statement? I will try out the GPS today and see. I haven't tried it out since i flashed JI6.
The GPS is better but it is not 100%. Mine jumped off the road twice today and at least once the Map program stated that it'd lost GPS signal... My response to the loss of GPS signal was to reboot the phone...
Not perfect but then I'm okay with it... The apps are more stable than Bing was on my TouchPro 2...
My GPS has been working perfectly since updating. Just as good if not better than any other phone I have used.

No problems here with GPS. It is as you say 100%.
GPS sucks still. I couldn't get a lock while driving. When I'm not moving it'll take about 20seconds or so. But if I can't get a lock while in a moving car its pretty useless for me

the gps becomes better, but not perfect. sometimes it may take some time to access your location. i haven't tried it really outside.
Not as good as my old-and-gone G1, but at least it works now, which makes it better.
I have been looking but can not find info. I have not been addicted to flashing in some time so I am a little out of the loop. I know some issues just never pan out and the fact that the issue remains becomes common knowledge to the xda community.
But yea like I said I am a little out of the loop and am having issues finding a status on gps in Cyanogen.
Thank you
Sorry for asking a dumb question

By default it is broken. There is a flashable fix on here which makes the GPS work (18 feet accuracy lock within about 20 sec, amazing I know for this phone) but it also has a problem. It only works after the phone is freshly restarted. . . later on if you use the GPS it will never lock.
So to summarize:
1. GPS doesn't work out of the box
2. Fix makes the GPS lock on really fast but only works after a reboot. Cannot lock on any satellites later on.
There is now a fix (not official) for users like myself who have an EXTERNAL gps puck for cm7. I bought a used bt359 off ebay for very little money and this seems to be the best solution as we dont know we will EVER get true drivers for gps on vibrant.
Thank you guys

I have the simply honey v5 rom. First GPS settings were wrong (mSassisted and such). GPS works only once as said. Compass doesnt work at all and it doesnt turn off the compass once you are done. It eats up the battery! Basically opening gmaps or any app that uses gmaps is not practical due to battery drainage.
Current config:
MIUI 1.9.16
ROM: ED05
Kernel: Glitch v12 HL (9/22/11)
Glitch 9/22/11 has been a HUGE improvement on my phone's speed, stability and smoothness. However, I'm still getting quite a lag time (3-5 min.) before the Fascinate connects to the satellites when using GPS for navigation.
I'm currently looking at Radio EC09.
Are there any recommendations or thoughts?
Do you leave your GPS on all the time? I've found my GPS takes a lot longer to lock if I was only turning it on When I need it. Now I leave it on all the time and most of the time it locks fairly quickly. Some people have better luck with E05, personally my GPS is better on EC09.
Yes. GPS is always left on. I am constantly using GPS to show specific locations as well as Latitude with family and friends.
My fascinate locks a bit quicker than my wife's with the exact same set up. And hers takes more time than mine to find Satellites. She has gone 10-15 min. without it ever finding a satellite lock.

Updated Radio
Decided to Odin EC09 radio.
First GPS lock was nearly instantainiously; however, following uses were not as quick. I'll test it out today and report my findings.
I have tried just about every GPS fix/tweak out there. It seems like everything works well once or twice. Maybe the placebo effect. After a day or two it is always back to the random lock times of seconds to minutes. I have had the best overall luck with the PWGB rom. 9 out of ten times it locks in under a minute which seems to be the best my phone will do.

thats because things get out of wack like the compass or need to be updated like agps data. if youve tried the GPS fixes out there like downloading the gps.conf file from powerwash/geewiz and deleting gps files in miui (not sure about others) then always check out the compass/agps if you arent getting a quick lock.
I usually use GPS status to check it and it downloads AGPS data. I've heard the compass can be a problem but I have seen my phone GPS lock in a few seconds with the compass reading WAY off and I have also seen it take several minutes when the compass is perfect. Seems to be no pattern on my phone.
I have been on EH09 since it came out. Now on PWGB latest version it has consistenly locked quickly since flashing.
I used to have a G2 and used Google Navigation ALOT. I could use it in my car with no probs. I've noticed that the Amaze looses GPS signal in my car about 50% of the time. Are there any tips or tricks to get better reception?
Thanks,

I have no such problems!!! in fact i've never had it lose reception. for me this phone has had bar far the fastest gps lock and the best gps! running stock rooted rom
Somethings not right. My gps locks in less than a second. Rock solid. Even inside a lot of times.
The t-mobile rep claimed that the glonass was already enabled, and its why im getting 1 second gps locks. Is that accurate? How can i tell? I know the chip supports it.
Mine too . Super fast. Fastest out of any phone yet.

Same here, the GPS on the Amaze has worked flawlessly for me every time I need it (which is pretty often since I'm always downtown and looking for something). Your Amaze might have a defective GPS component if it's always losing the signal or lock. I could be wrong, but I'm only guessing that that could be the issue since I've gotten superb GPS performance on every ROM I've flashed.
If you have task manager installed make sure you are not killing any system app that relates to gps functionality.
Turned on GPS..
If I stand at the furthest point in my house and do a speed test with GPS disabled I get
34ping 2.30Mb/s down 3.82Mb/s up
I enable GPS and do another speed test..
11ping 17Mb/s down 4.44Mb/s up
Although this has, for me, fixed my Wifi my GPS is non existent, I am yet to get a single satellite with GPS test while in the middle of my garden.
Let me know if enabling the GPS helps with Wifi speeds for any of you
Maybe this is why my WiFi seems OK. I just leave GPS on most of the time. (although I haven't tested my GPS as it is wintry here)
interesting, i will have to give this a try.....thanks for the info sir.
Was really hoping it would work for me since my wifi gets below 5mbps which sucks...
Did multiple test and nothing major changed..
Glad it worked for you..

You're sure enabling GPS didn't simply make speed test select a more appropriate server?
It would be better if folks tested wifi speeds over their local network, I think.

Interesting. Is this with the latest firmware? Play with Wifi Analyzer as well. Check your Wifi -db signal. See what is going on with that.
Odd that just enabling GPS and not enabling would get different results. Maybe something with the latest firmware.
I can't test because my prime is totally modded. External antenna etc.

My GPS works (marginally) . Works better with the GPS fix mentioned in other threads. However, getting a GPS fix from a "cold start" sometimes takes a while. For example, Decided to try it on a short grocery trip. When I finally got the fix (already at the store), it said "2050 sec to first fix"....Once it got that first fix, it worked fine the rest of the way home.....Again with that fix applied....although I marginally see sats without the fix.
Another side note: I happened to notice while it was searching, a little info message appeared that said "Best results are obtained if the unit is horizontal".
But sometimes that first fix can be a bear to get.
Good luck,
Bob

Lol which Starbucks do u go to? I'm lucky if I get 1mbps at any Starbucks in NY and Philly

Pretty sure he's talking link speed, not actual throughput.
I live next to a Starbucks that is nearly always dead and with me sitting close to the registers, the speeds can hit 2 Mbps max. ****ty ATT internets.
Sorry for the noob question, but how do you enable GPS so that it stays on in other applications?

Other than the check boxes in LOCATION Services, there is no other control. When you open an app that can use GPS, you'll see a little icon in the notification bar that says "Searching for GPS"
If the GPS system were totally working, you would never lose the signal...The only time you lose it is if it is marginal.
What is the impact of GPS on battery life, if it does not work and it keeps searching without finding anything?
Battery will be drained very very quickly. I am sure.
Think about it

The GPS will only find your location if an app asks it to do so. So if the GPS icon isn't showing next to the clock the GPS is not in use.
Not sure any of you have noticed... Prime doesn't have a gps.conf file on it... I added it last night and got 8 of 13 locked... from inside... by the window. Check out system/etc/gps.......
One other thing I noticed.. in build.prop my wifi.country = is set to GB even though I bought the transformer in Canada... can someone check and see if they have anything different?
I've always wondered if the Wifi issue was a software problem. My wifi is "okay". The most annoying thing is it randomly completely disconnects from my school's wifi network and then it shows that there is no wifi available. The reason why I think its a software problem is because if I disable and re-enable the wifi it starts working again with me being in the exact same location.
Kind of odd...

I saw this on previous firmwares, but never on the latest one. It also seemed, in my experience, to be related to the chrome beta. If I brought that up it would immediately stop any data being transferred over wifi and would then lead to a disconnect.
I never did uninstall the chrome beta to see if that fixed it entirely, but updating to the latest firmware did seem to stop the issue.
Suppose I'll hop on the bandwagon and give it a go.
It's hard for me to get any real speed degradation without actually dropping below the connection threshold with these rural speeds, but I'll try.
My wifi works pretty good after some build.prop tweaks, i would suggest that before modding the tf201. Basically, i added net.tcp.buffersize.wifi with some values and net.tcp.buffersize.umts with the same values 4096 ,87380, 256960, 4096, 16384, 256960
Of course you need to be rooted
