Is there a way to ad block on 1.8.3? Adfree does not seem to be working well.

If rooted and it's not already part of the ROM you are using - AdFree from Market
Ok.. Virus rom doesnt have the ad blocker host files built in
valid question but OP please move this to general section. this has no relevance to dev work
This thing has never actually worked for me, every app I use still has ads even after I registered and updated my ad free. I reboot and super user grants ad free on the boot up but ads are still on all my apps.
Does this thing actually work or just blowing smoke

Used to work but not much anymore. The individual apps are using their own ad servers now. I find that Ad Away works a little better, give it a shot
It used to work awesomely but recently it blocks online ads only
Yeah i tried both but no luck LOL was trying to get ubersocial without ads but looks like they making you pay now

Try "adaway" it seems to work better in the US than the ol' adfree. (At least for me.)
I just noticed someone else posted this already above me; don't use both as that can cause neither to work (for whatever reason). Also, you CAN edit your hosts file manually and that -DOES- work. You can even look up custom mobile ad-free host files that you can work in there. Best of luck.

I'm still using an older version of what used to be ubersocial. Either I always was using a ROM w/ and ad list built in or had been running ad free and I have yet to see any ads. The one I'm currently running is Twitroid 6.03. I stuck with this free version off the market bc I was reading a lot of the reviews about the new updates and I just never bothered with the update. It still works fine and I use it daily...
If interested, I posted up the apk.

Maybe the server isn't in the blocklist?

If you experience blocking not to work on 3G but to work well on Wifi it could be related to the APN settings that changed when you upgraded from GB to ICS. If the APN has a proxy and a port set, just delete them. This worked for me using AdAway
Just forgot: here AdAway Issue 172 is some more information.
Try adaway available in the play store, it works perfectly.

Hi Guys,
I am currently having problems with TVcatchup.com along with some other live stream services, as they will not play due to ad blocker.
Anyone else notice this?
Any recommendations how to to have it work properly or
as a last resort, suggestions on how to completely removing the ad block?
Thanks
Aaron.
UK Samsung S3, Omega Rom.
i use adaway on omega jb roms, no problems with tvcatchup

Delete /system/etc/hosts, then try if it works (should do).
Then install AdAway to get rid of the ads. If it doesn't work, delete that hosts file again, or use the app to revert.
No problems here on the leaked 4.1.2 using adfree android.

why not use the tvcatchup app rather then the website?
try whitelisting
demo.inskinmedia.com and
objects.tremormedia.com
this solved my problem a few months ago
I am trying to block ads. Usually I flash the Moaab hosts file, but there's no custom recovery yet.
I installed the Adblock Plus apk but I still get ads with and without root.
Firefox with the Adblock Plus plugin does work it but isn't system-wide.
Any ideas?

Add the MOAB hosts source url to Adaway. Not sure if it works with AddBlock.

How about Ad-away?
Adaway works great for me
Adaway ftw
Adaway needs root

OP said he still was getting ads with AdBlock Plus "with and without root", so I took for granted that his N9 is rooted.
Adblock plus did nothing for me, AdAway worked straight away though. But he's root is needed
Adaway works great. If you are using Google's proxy in Chrome you won't be able to block any ads in the browser.
Adaway is the best one!
