Hello, when I'm in office I have my HD2 always "plugged" to a cradle connected to my PC via USB. I haven't selected the option to disconnect charging when the device is connected to a PC and now I wonder if the fact to keep connected the HD2 to a charging source yet when the charge is 100% can harm battery and reduce its "lifetime"....I have an app that monitors the battery temperature and this temperature has the same values when the battery is charging as well when the battery is fully charged but the HD2 is still connected...
Opinions about?
Thanks
Andrea
There is no problem in doing that!

Just be happy that You always have a fully charged HD2
When it´s 100% full it is simply not charged any more ........... no sweat
And you have the option of no charge when connected to a PC
Li-on batteries are happy to be bumped charged. Keep them charged and it will be good
Thanks to everybody, guys!!

I am using phone alarm which stops charging battery via USB when its 100%,to prevent overheating. It'll charge again when below 90%.
Overheating is the only problem there is i believe...no issues with lifetime of battery...

its an android app
I think yes !
But only if you charge the battery when it's not low !
Basically charging it when it's more than 30 % can shorten the battery life !

I've installed the trial version of phone alarm but I don't see this option, neither in the help I've found it...are you sure it does?
Thanks

Battery "lifetime" is dependant on a number of factors, but, to maximise the useful capacity just charge it as often as you can. Then when not on charge you will get the "best" performance" from it.

Lithium batteries last longer with top up charges rather than deep charges.
As PA49 says, keep it topped up as often as possible.
My phone gets heat up when I charge my phone..sometimes over 40 degrees celcius..i have only rooted my mini..have not change its clocking speed. Then why it is happening?what is the solution?what is the maximum temperature that should not exceed?

please try a full reflash that worked at my u20i atleast...
sometimes my phone is overheating on charger too. the fix that works for me is to simply unplug and plug cable again, than it's working fine...

But it would not be good for the battery as people say whenever u plug in the charger then dnt plug off till the battery is 100% charged.

I have encountered this problem too. I turned off live wallpaper and fency widget and everything worked fine. You could turn them on after full charged. I find live wallpaper really drained battery fast.
Thanks for the suggestion. I dnt use live wallpapers so it is not a problem. But for widgets You mean to say that before charging I should remove the widgets and then add them back after every charge. It would be hectic. Or there is a way to 'turn off' the widgets.

I wouldn't worry about that on Lipo or Li-ion batteries... in fact its good for the first 10 -15 charge cycles not to charge them to full (it makes the battery last longer.)
If it were an old Nimh or Nicad then yes.. best to make it flat and charge to 100% not the case with new batteries, feel free to top them up when ever you like and un plug them befor they get to 100% (only rule with Lipos and li-ions is not to run them completely flat.. they don't like that)
Kiwi
Battery drains out from 10% to 1% and (OFF) in a minute, yes one minute...
Any one has the same problem?, is this normal?.
I noticed it does not happen every time, what could possibly cause the problem?.
Thanks
Hello,
You should try recalibrate your battery. To do that :
- Discharge your phone and let it turns off itself
- Power it on and wait that it switches off
- Charge your phone when it's off during 8 hours
Good luck !
and after you fully load your battery go into recovery and wipe the battery stats and charge it up again

I've seen a similar behaviour on many other Android devices. IMHO you can consider 10% Battery as almost Zero - you just shouldn't let it run that low.
I have noticed one thing, when phone is charched with charger battery life time is around 5 days.
When i charge phone over computer, two and half day is max of battery duration??
Anyone else noticed that?

It's always been the case, using the wall socket will give better battery life compared to using the pc.

Same thing for the car adapter. Weird phenomenon that cannot be explained from a scientific point of view, but it's my own experience.
Havn't noticed that with my neo, however I never have my phone below 20% for too long, have a charger in my travel bag, 1 in the car and 1 at home, always a cable to plug in nearby.

This is probably because USB port in PC is limited to 5 volts and that means that the charging will be slower and not so efficien.t probably same thing with car adapter.

PC usb = 500mA & 5V
Wall charger = 1A & 5V
Some PC motherboards had specially made some USBs ports for charging. There is output ~800mA. Read your pc manual.
There is differents.

does anybody know some patch to disable USB charging? i dont like messing like that with my battery, i like charge it to 100% and then discharge to 0% every time, but oftem i need to copy some files from cell to comp... and i must plug in cable and charge battery for few minutes... help? thx.
Sory i dont answes your question but i really must ask why from 100 to 0. Afaik i even worse discharge this type of battery to 0. You can even broke it. Just charge when you need and life time be same.

Draining to zero is bad for newer batteries. And charging them for only a few moments is fine. All newer phone also have smart chips so when they reach 100% the stop charging usually letting the device bounce to 95 and back up.

actually, it does not drain to the zero.. just a minimum value. if it were to drain to zero it would never charge again.
i'm talking basic chemistry here. not sure about the exact Li-ion batteries.
@OP, my old sony phone, you could shut it from the service menu you get after clicking a set of combination of the keys..
there must be a similar combination for the new ones. i am on cm9 so i cannot check.

battery has its own electronics and it never go below safe limit, and charging from 0-100 is good for my battery as far i can tell from service menu where actual measured capacity is shown, normal is 1500, when i charge whenever i like, plugin and plug out several times a day capacity drops even to 1400, when i charge and discharge 0-100 100-0 capacity comes back to 1500
i had xperia arc before and after 9 months battery was like new, sometimes it dropped to 1425 but after few full zero zero full cycles it was back to 1500

Look, right is we have mobile phone for using, for serve us. If i need go out and see 50% i give mobile on charger. Who really want have death mobile? And when mobile turn off and you give him recharge too late, like after you come from out you can really broke it. This already happen on my old se batery. And still i dont se any cool reason to do it when lifetime battery is practicaly same as i read on many same about li-pol li-ion battery. Anyway if there is no other way to disable charging, you can also use something like airdroid and copy files via wifi

There is no memory effect on our phones' batteries. They do not lose their capacity like this at all. I do not know, how/what you did, but this is not correct.
You could go to Google and search for Li-Ion and Li-Po type battery myths and reality(facts). You will find lots of useful information.

Use airdroid. It connects your phone via WLAN with your pc using your router.
You can use any webbrowser on your pc.

I experienced that too.. I dont really know what to do with that but try charging yiur device turned off
I charged most of my device turned off or turn them off after use when charging..
It will charge faster like 2-3hrs and youll get a 100%

I charged mine while it was off over night from 10% and it was at 97% after 10 hours from wall plug, then the next day I charged it from notebook usb and it was still slow. But it seems to be charging faster each time. (and I still love this thing... Now if I can only get root without downgrading back to the original in the box firmware I will be happy)
Your question has been asked and answered many times. ( though you should say "charging too slow" )
Have a look here, for example : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428856
The charging time you are having is about right.
If you have root you could download an app called CPU adjuster which let's you create different profiles for example when screen is off, connected to wall charged or connected to USB charger you can set minimum and maximum CPU speed for the tablet during these situations, I've been using it for a few months now and it has helped prolong battery life a little and helps charge a little quicker.
