Hello, when I'm in office I have my HD2 always "plugged" to a cradle connected to my PC via USB. I haven't selected the option to disconnect charging when the device is connected to a PC and now I wonder if the fact to keep connected the HD2 to a charging source yet when the charge is 100% can harm battery and reduce its "lifetime"....I have an app that monitors the battery temperature and this temperature has the same values when the battery is charging as well when the battery is fully charged but the HD2 is still connected...
Opinions about?
Thanks
Andrea
There is no problem in doing that!

Just be happy that You always have a fully charged HD2
When it´s 100% full it is simply not charged any more ........... no sweat
And you have the option of no charge when connected to a PC
Li-on batteries are happy to be bumped charged. Keep them charged and it will be good
Thanks to everybody, guys!!

I am using phone alarm which stops charging battery via USB when its 100%,to prevent overheating. It'll charge again when below 90%.
Overheating is the only problem there is i believe...no issues with lifetime of battery...

its an android app
I think yes !
But only if you charge the battery when it's not low !
Basically charging it when it's more than 30 % can shorten the battery life !

Battery "lifetime" is dependant on a number of factors, but, to maximise the useful capacity just charge it as often as you can. Then when not on charge you will get the "best" performance" from it.

Lithium batteries last longer with top up charges rather than deep charges.
As PA49 says, keep it topped up as often as possible.

i heard that when you fully drain your battery and then fully charge it, then your battery would be better than before....?

Kinda sorta....the modern lithium battery does not have a memory like the old nickel ones. But what happens is as your phone charges/drains it builds statistics to know what zero percent actually is. So your battery doesn't really physically store more power, your system just learns what full and empty mean for your battery and your phone just reports a more accurate battery percent.

i learnt it the hard way...if u let it go down to 0, it wont charge from the computer usb cable.
I had to find a wall charger..

If you drain your battery to 0, it will be unusable (will not charge), you'll have to buy a new one. The phone should shut off before it reaches 0 to help keep this from happening, but I have not tested this with the Atrix.

and not just any wall charger will work... I tried borrowing one from someone at work. I thought 850ma would work, but it was 5.0V and it barely powered the phone up. 3 hours later was only 20% charged.
the motorola chargers are 5.1v.. they charge much faster.

I mostly use the one I got with my Moto headset. It's 5.0/550mA and it works pretty well. I use it when sleeping (keeps wifi/pandora running.)
Haven't really bothered trying to time either one, though. Mostly I use the headset charger due to having a much longer cord that isn't as stiff as the usb one. I have to use an extender on that one and it's annoying.
Go to Monoprice they have ten foot USB cords under $5.00 dollars best place to buy any cable needed.

This is the biggest myth about Li-ions. Every lithium ion battery MUST have regulatory circuity built INTO the battery for safety reasons and so it can actually take a charge. This regulatory chip also prevents the battery from dropping below an actual power level of around 20-25% (not too sure about the percentage). Yes, you CANNOT drain a lithium battery fully unless you're using naked cells with some complex machinery. And yes this also means that your battery actually has MORE life than it says. but no you cannot access it.
This spare life does however increase the batteries life span because the cells go through fewer charge cycles.
You don't need to drain your battery fully to make it perform better. I can't link (new member) but search google for lithium. Battery care and hit the batteryuniversity link. It explains everything.

All phones shut off before they are completely dead. You are also slightly incorrect, the thing that makes the battery unusable is it draining below a specific voltage, usually 2.8v. You would'nt have to buy a new phone, just a new battery. But this is nothing to worry about because the phone is not capable of draining it to that point.
Battery drains out from 10% to 1% and (OFF) in a minute, yes one minute...
Any one has the same problem?, is this normal?.
I noticed it does not happen every time, what could possibly cause the problem?.
Thanks
Hello,
You should try recalibrate your battery. To do that :
- Discharge your phone and let it turns off itself
- Power it on and wait that it switches off
- Charge your phone when it's off during 8 hours
Good luck !
and after you fully load your battery go into recovery and wipe the battery stats and charge it up again

I've seen a similar behaviour on many other Android devices. IMHO you can consider 10% Battery as almost Zero - you just shouldn't let it run that low.
I have noticed one thing, when phone is charched with charger battery life time is around 5 days.
When i charge phone over computer, two and half day is max of battery duration??
Anyone else noticed that?

It's always been the case, using the wall socket will give better battery life compared to using the pc.

Same thing for the car adapter. Weird phenomenon that cannot be explained from a scientific point of view, but it's my own experience.
Havn't noticed that with my neo, however I never have my phone below 20% for too long, have a charger in my travel bag, 1 in the car and 1 at home, always a cable to plug in nearby.

This is probably because USB port in PC is limited to 5 volts and that means that the charging will be slower and not so efficien.t probably same thing with car adapter.

PC usb = 500mA & 5V
Wall charger = 1A & 5V
Some PC motherboards had specially made some USBs ports for charging. There is output ~800mA. Read your pc manual.
There is differents.

Hey folks,
I'm currently looking for an App that will recognize your charging status and disable the "process" if the juice is on 100%
The reason is, that I think the battery life is much longer if you ain't overload your battery every night.
Is there any App that can do this; is it generally possible?

No, because this is not a "phone" question. When you plug your phone to the charger, the energy is transmitted to the phone and only stop when you unplug it. There's no way to do this.
Good (or bad )... So we can close this thread
Leaving your phone on the charger once its charged will not overcharge the battery. There are safeguards built in that stop it from charging once the voltage level gets high enough.
Good to know, thank you!
i red some diffrent idea about battery and i got confused ! which one is better for battery health?
1-when battery is 30-40% connect to charger for full charge
2- when battery is about 1-10% connect to charget for full charge .
Just don't empty the battery ( 0% ).. idk if it's true, but a lot of people advised not to empty battery cause it's Li-ion..
I suggest you charge as soon as the phone notifies that it can be charged

Li-ion doesnt have memory effect so it isnt important when you charge it, imagine if jou have car dock you charge it every time you put the phone
in and the batery is still ok.
Every few months I empty the battery completely and charge it from zero and I do this because after flashing lots of firmwares etc the battery seems to give funny readings. This might not be correct procedure but it works for me.

:laugh: most of them have already covered in the above posts
only left outs i think r below
charge ur battery externally by removing it from ur phone.
or place ur batt in any of ur friends s2 phone then charge
and somebody might add more i suppose wait and see
Wanna ask..is there anyway or any app to control our android charging behaviour??
something like when it reaches 95% or 100% charge state, the input power will automatically get cutted..(like those in our laptops)..so it would prevent ur phone from getting overcharged..
coz as i read so many threads about battery, overcharging is one of the biggest thread to our precious battery lifecycle..
thanx anw
+1
I was wondering the same thing.
Hi
I believe that there still is an internal control to stop charging at 100% limit reached, otherwise millions of always-connected-to-PC handset should have yet exploded arond the world!

I think you missed the point... Of course they stop charging at 100%, but what if 0.1% gets drained after few minutes, will charger constantly keep refilling those 0.1% that get drained ?
Laptops can work without the battery (which means, while plugged, they totally avoid the battery - battery does not get drained at all and therefore is not being constantly refilled), not sure if same can be said for phones.

yeah. it's written somewhere in the phone's manual and AFAIR the number was 90%
why i get 65% battery its 1% battery....and when i charged it back continue with 65%...

Well, as I intended that was not exactly the question of OP.
However, the situation of long time handset connection to an energy source is so common that I'd be surprised if there is no internal control to manage this situation.
One can transfer 16gigs from pc to a mounted SD card, forgetting the phone attached to AC charger all night, using it as satellite navigation system.
In all these cases there could very be charging after 100%; in both cases that battery is skipped or battery 1% drain is continuously refilled, there are no special alerts reported by manufacturers to disconnect the power, and all works on.
Also in old-dear feature phones the battery could have been charged after 100% (less often 'cause it lasted more ); on Nokia there just was an alert to disconnect the charger for just energy saving purpose.
Don't however know in a long time perspective if continuous refilling is harmful for battery life and how much.
