hello
I put your rom CyanogenMod oc to 1500 it works very well except the wifi after sleep.
j SetCPU've put a 1000 random reboot since reboot ok more
J have tried to Roma origin has 1000 runs but less fluid and the wireless reconnects after sleep problem but sod
SetCPU has 608 mini tests always negative problem sod
100 suffers from my portfolio each sod was left to sleep except in foliomod1.4 SetCPU mini 608
I am close to do any tests that could help solve this problem
thank you for your work

Wow, did you use Google Language to translate? Anyway, I think you done a good job by trying to translate it to English before posting here, unlike someone else who just simply ignored and posted in their own languages..
yes translated with Google
I do not understand the English
complicated for me but I wish if I can participate

Hi all,
I have been browsing this forum for a while now and finally decided to register.
After getting incredibly frustrated waiting for HTC and T-mobile to get their act together and release 2.1 I followed the guides on here and rooted my G2.
I originally flashed VillainROM10.3 and then upgraded to VillainROM12. Both of which are great!
I have since been playing with the CPU speed. I see many people on here claiming CPU speeds of ~750Mhz, however the most I seem to be able to get out of my phone is ~650Mhz (I'm using OverclockWidget from the market to set the frequencies). Is this a problem anyone else has experienced? If so is it down to my phone having a duff CPU or could the problem be with the ROM or the widget I'm using. Whenever I set the phone to anything higher than 650 it either just freezes or reboots itself.
Thanks Guys (and girls?)

It's as simple as; some phones simply can't handle higher MHz
So if I flash for example SuperHero which is supposed to be clocked by default at 691Mhz will my phone freeze on boot or is it smart enough to figure out its max speed.

It will probably freeze but there are kernels the isn't overclocked that high by default
So I don't mean to keep going on about it but when I flashed VR12 the description said:
...
- 19MHz to 748MHz OC kernel
...
However when I run it the default speed its using is 619? Is that normal?

Yes. Many ROMs aren't set to the highest available clock speed by default because there are phones like yours that can't handle it
Has anyone used a froyo rom that has a really quick wake up (press button after screen is off)? Ive tried FV1.5 and Cronos 1.1 or 1.2 i forget and both of them have a bit of a slow wakeup (1+ seconds). Im too used to my kimera2.1 having like a half second wakeup. Thanks for any input
I'm using Froyd Villain with the latest Flykernel , screen off CPU @ 176 - 352, screen on @ 528 - 691. Flawless so far, less than 1/2 delay to wake-up I reckon , but only been using for 12 hours or so.

Op, increase your sleep speed
I use the same speeds for all the roms i go thru. 176/528 and sleep at 176/352. Kimera and RCmix are the only roms that wake up practically instantly. Everything else one second or more

Trust me, froyd is very particular about sleep speed and governor. Conservative governor works best in sleep.
Failing that, it could be hardware... sleep resume fine here on 19 MHz
Hello people
I've got a strange problem.
My phone's cpu seems to be stuck on the max cpu frequency that I've set it at, which is 787Mhz.
I don't know why this is but I've checked the Setcpu profiles, nothing there.
I've checked all of my apps to see which one is using all that cpu, but all of them don't add too 100%
I don't know whats using this mystery 60%
Dose anyone know whats going on ???
there is nothing wrong with your phone....All that this means is that your phone is running at a higher clock speed (eating battery) while not doing heavier task...u can force your phone to run at a lower clock like 480MHZ
Right OK but most of the time setcpu tells me that the frequency continually changes but it's just static. which it's never done that
Ok ill do the underclocking idea
my p500 can oc to 804 but sometime it's error ; sorry for my English I'm in thailand ^^

Thanks thats helped
but here's a even stranger thing.
I've got a spare battery for my phone and when i put the other one in the CPU was working normally again, which was odd, so I put the other battery back in and the CPU problem started again.
so as strange as it sounds it looks like one of my batterys seems to be causing this problem :S
You shoud use swap!
You can search on Google how to set up swap ( using software or command )
Set swap up to 500mb, now you can OC at higher frequency
I successed on my GT540. Good luck!
P/S: Maybe you need a fast memory card
Sorry for my Eng
Is it safe to overclock the Touchpad using setcpu? I have it at 1.5 ghz and it seems to be working fine.

I have been reading about this all day. Some people have claimed that once your device goes to sleep it does not wake up unless you press the POWER + HOME buttons at the same time for 30 sec. I guess YMMV.
Overclocking so far works well. I see no problems as of yet. Just make sure you OC with setcpu; frequencies do not show up in cmsettings when you try to OC there.

mines not overclocked and has happened 4 times today. So, obviously not an overclock only problem. I will tinker around with it, but ive yet to tell myself...man, this needs to be speedier. Its run QUICK. far quicker than WebOS and its many 10second pauses (OCed to 1.7 and patched to boot..)

Haven't tested it yet, but some say it's a problem due to the "minimum cpu speed" setting when it goes to deep sleep. Something about it being too low and thus can't get out of sleep and setting the minimum higher (not sure of they value) should remedy that.
I'm using SetCpu with a OC of 1.5 and a minimum of 384 with no issues.
my question is should I click the box for set on boot?
i do. set on boot, min 384 max 1512, ondemand tcl
no sleep death, no lag, working great! (mind you im still on CM7 A1, by preference)
What is the difference between ondemand and ondemandtcl settings? Also, any problems encountered running 1.7g I've only read people running 1.5g...
There's a fix to the Sleep of Death issue and that worked for me. I thought using SetCPU caused the sleep problem but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm going to see how far I can overclock my TouchPad now
link
I'm running Setcpu at 384/1.7 with zero problems.
I was having issues at first with failure to wake from sleep but after I changed my min to 384 It has not failed once. All my little problems went away when I made this change. Been running for 12 days without a single need to reboot.

i run 1.5 purely for performance/battery conservation but it goes to 1.7 just as easily too.
also traditionally:
Ondemand - Both CPU cores freely move up and down as needed.
Ondemandtcl - prefers the use of CPU0 unless CPU1 is absolutely necessary for use, then it will kick in. otherwise it will remain idle
does anyone try alpha 3?
I saw people said touchpad freeze when using setcpu. Does it work well?
im oc with 1728 max and 192 min ondemand. no issues or sleep of death. im thinking of bumping it up to 1.8ghz like i have in webos.
At first: sorry for just using Google Translate... I have not much time to write everything new!
Problem:
After some time, the ongoing CPU / GPU load overclocked the processor down and the maximum stroke is limited to 820MHz. Under Android 2.3 that was detected with the tool Stability Test, which but now with Android 4.0 makes the Xperia S problems and freezes the display after 2min.
clearly evident in the following games / applications:
- Asphalt 7: Heat - after 10 to 15 minutes
- Mass Effect - Infiltrator - after 10 to 15 minutes
- Shadow Gun - after 10 to 15 minutes
- N64 Emulator (FREE) on TV over HDMI HDMI after about 20 or 25 minutes
- Dungeon Hunter 3 (FREE) - on charger during the third mission
- Real Football (FREE) - after 20 or 30 minutes... Keep the half-time Screen on for 15 minutes should bring the effect faster
- Temple Run Brave - thx @ monivan
Should you it with other games or the best tools that can follow the show cpu speed permanently, please post here. the above StabilityTest works definitely NOT currently until an update from the developer Comes
Here a short example Video in german... if you move Forward to 3:20 you will see the effect clearly after 3:30
ATTENTION! Please only Xperia S users participate in the survey, as the results will be forwarded to the developer and not with "I certainly do not" click just because you did not want to test this.

I've reported the problem, but no one seem to care. Mine is clocked to 810mhz just every couple of minutes one the devices is overheated. I tried to remove overheat control, but still the problem exist. I hate playing it laggy, but i don't mind a hot phone if it still workibg properly!

Hrm I tried many kernels. All with the same result even CM9 & 10. But i can decreased it by not using On demand govenor!

there is a solution from Bin4ry but it is a bit dangerous and we don't know if it has hardware-side-effects over a Long time...
I attached you a file... it is a config where the thermal throttling Trigger values are located at... it just sets the throttle value from 55 degrees to 70 degrees (CPU data sheet says Maximum temp is 80 degrees so it's inside his Limit) and the emergency shutdown from 70 degrees to 75 degrees....
there is also another emergency shutdown value for battery temp at 60 degrees because at more then 70 the battery may explode so: DON'T touch this values!!!
just unzip it and overwrite the existing one in /System/etc/
then reboot...
after that it will not throttle again but if you are charging and playing for a while (after 45 or 60 minutes) the phone get's damned hot!!!
so Bin4ry and I think, that the Xperia S has a massively failed Hardware design with this old CPU and bad heat Management!!!
EDIT: hmm who is the one without any Problems? a Statement what was tested would be nice you are the first one (out of 15 People voted in both Forums together) who has no problems
I'm on stock rom. Yesterday I played Virtua Tennis for 3 hours, and last night played Virtua Tennis with a friend, phone slightly heated, but not over heated also never had any problem !!! but my Arc is over heating
hmm ok but you should try with games listed above... the Problem is, that other games could have limited fps to save Hardware power... that's the reason why i listed These games
Maybe the best solution is to underclock the phone to 1-1,2 Ghz, so that it won't get this hot when playing games... I think a custom kernel is necessary for that but my BL is locked.... Is there anybody who can try this out and report?
lol...
i payed 600 EUROS for a phone with 1,5GHz dualcore CPU! i will NOT underclock it to make it run more stable
the best solution is to proove that the Xperia S has a Hardware issue that can't be fixed and forece sony to bring you an Exchange device with the same Price value like you have paid or you get your money back...

OK he has a holiday today... will call him again on monday but i sent him a mail with Informations and these polls anyway
Is this problem only exist in custom rom/kernels? how about stock by sony 2.3.7 and 4.0.4?

no this is a HARDWARE Problem... so there are two possibilities... the device clocks down much tooo early and games start to lag (like on stock FW) or it throttles just at higher temps (some custom roms with other throttle values) but then the Xperia becomes extremely hot!

I see, I'm still using my arc, it does get hot too while playing HD games it reaches upto 39degrees
I was planning to get XS, playing games is my priority, but when i read this thread im having second thoughts now
I got my Xperia SL, i have yet to test this problem
If you want gaming go for a tegra handset like HTC one X I think it's the best deal
Sent from my LT22i using xda premium
Same here, after playing like 30 min NFSMW my XS is extremendly hot and lag (Lag in game and sometime after close this)
Games with lag:
Gta 3 full settings (30~ 40 min)
NFSMW (30 ~ 40)
N64oid (30-40)
100floor (Jesus IS A 2D game)
Im on full stock .55
I think we need to talk with sony about the minimun speed after overheating from 820 mhz to 1ghz
PS: mods, can you move to xs forum plz?
