I've been trying to install a custom rom to my htc hero (gsm) but it seemes like i can't root it properly.. i've used androot to root with, and tjecked if the mobile was rooted through busybox and various apps, and it all tjecks out, it gives su permission to the android terminal, and i can delete obligatory apps that i dont need from the phone without a problem, but when i try to setup another recovery to install custom roms im stuck, the terminal can't go that far.. just trying to reboot from the terminal isn't allowed..
So have anybody experienced the same issue?
and idea what to try next?
There was the same thing with my phone
Then I found a thread which said there are several different ways to apply recovery.zip. some of them difn't work for me either. Now I can't remember which method worked for me, but I'll share tgat thread as soon as I get to my notebook just wait for it
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
ok, this is how I have done.
put the recovery.zip in SD card
run Androot and do ROOT.
run Terminal Emulator.
execute the following commands
su (wait for superuser request and accept it)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
the reboot command won't work, so just turn off the phone and boot into recovery (Home+Power)
that's it.
If this method doesn't work, try this one
do Androot
run ROM Manager
press "Flash clockwork recovery"
grant superuser permissions
wait
boot into recovery
And another way to apply recovery via Droid Explorer
download and install Droid Explorer on your PC
USB Debugging must be turned on in the phone
connect via usb and run the program
coose Flash Recovery Image plugin and fill th path to recovery.img
It should do the job...
you sir. are awesome!
i've tried the two first methods before, they didn't work
but the last one did
another question now:
im in the system recovery and i've done everything i need to install a custom rom (cyanogenmod) but it stops installing:
E: No signature (775 files)
E: Verification failed
Installation aborted.
what to do now?
first of all, I'm not a Sir. I'm a Miss
and I'm glad I helped you
and third. Personally I haven't tryed cyanogenmod, so I'm not sure why the install package couldn't be verified. Try redownloading the zip. Maybe it is corrupt. If not, did you follow ALL these steps? I found it in this thread with the same question as yours. And he solved it this way.
Hope this will help...
hmh didn't expect that, and your quite smart too ^^
it's way my own fault, i repacked the zip that was the problem
cyanogenmod is damn nice
though it's the first rom ever to try out, it seems stable enough..
it's just good to fully control your own device
thanks
And yeah, cyanogen is nice

adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf

There is no root application for original rom 2.3.3
Download the attached ZIP and flash the recovery via LGMDP. (CWM 3.1.0.0 included, if you want something else, replace it with whatever you want.)
- Unzip, run LGMDP-v1.5.exe
- Click Download in menu
- Select Port
- Choose your phone, click Connect
- Click Image Folder button, browse to the directory where you unpacked this
- Click OK about 3 times on the warnings
- Close the window
- Click Download button
- Let it do the job.

LOL, yeah, you definitely need that. Flash this from recovery. Once done, grab Busybox Installer from market and install busybox.

Of course... It is not supposed to root your phone at all!!! It flashes custom recovery so that you could flash a rooted ROM from there, or flash the superuser ZIP (see my howto)
People, really - please think about what you are doing.

Hi guys, regarding the problem about rooting the original GB, it can be done, and it's not that complicated.
First of all there are a couple of things that you have to consider before starting to root.
1. Be sure that you have installed the original V20G GB ROM.
2. if you have it installed and tried different methods to root on it do a factory reset before trying this one.
3. Be absolutely sure that you have all the drives installed when working with the phone in USB debugging mode, if not install them.
4. Download SuperOneClickv1.9.5-ShortFuse, after download extract the files into a folder with the same name as the archive.
5. After you extracted the files, go to C:\Windows\System32 and copy the cmd.exe to the folder where you extracted the files, in my case C:\Users\myuser\Desktop\SuperOneClickv1.9.5-ShortFuse\ADB.
6. right click on cmd.exe from the ADB folder, Run as administrator, than write:
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf,
Do not close the window, live it like that.
7. Enter the phone settings menu, to the Development and tick the USB debugging mode. Connect the USB cable to the phone, wait until it recognizes it, after that start SuperOneClick.exe.
8. Leave the settings to the SuperOneClick as they are when it opens, click on ROOT and wait, it will say Starting ADB server..., than it will do it's job and than it will appear Waiting for device... it will say ok and that if it freezes while running psneuter do the following:
a. Turn USB Debugging OFF wait until it will appear in the window again Starting ADB server..., after that,
b. Turn USB Debugging ON, and after this trick it will start rooting.
This is the method that i did and it worked like a charm.
After this it will ask you to reboot the phone, DO NOT FORGET, and after the reboot click on the SuperUser icon in the phone's menu. it will aks you is you allow or deny it's access. click allow.
If you do not get the Allow Deny message the root was not completed successfully. do a factory reset and try again the same steps.
If you do get the message you have rooted the phone, go to market and update the superuser and install busy-box. After you can install a custom recovery. Also you can install your preferred Kernel if you don't like the stock one.
As a recovery i use AmonRa i don't like Clockworks. if you like clockworks install rom manager and install it from there. if you like amonRA download it and follow the steps from here.
I don't know this will work or not. But if it will work the cheers to you boy.

What is fc?
and if you mean that the applications that require root prompts the super user for access is normal.

This method did not work for me .. I have V20B Stock Gingerbread. Is there any way to root it .??
If not please guide me to return to stock froyo with proper baseband .
try this
KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU HAVE TO MAKE A NAND BACKUP ALWAYS WHEN YOU ARE MAKING A ROM FLASH.
Good luck.
Just got a uhappy up580 mtk6580 5.1LP phone.
All sorts of problems with it if I try to do anything with it, as stock it works great, no issues. Install kingroot as thats the only way to root it, Ive tried them all... Cannot remove kingroot for super SU using ANY way including superSUme, all things on here and needrom etc... cant do it.
I cant unlock the bootloader using everything I've found on here, from simply selecting it in settings to ADB on the PC and terminal in root shell, says 'not permitted' or 'not allowed' or rewboots to a selection screen and the volume up button to select it wont work.
Cannot remove install.recovery.sh using an old esfile explore, root explore, adb root shell on PC and terminal etc... all say, not permitted or 'system is r/o' Used commands to r/w system but again, this isnt allowed/permitted.
Installed chainfires 'secureADB' I think it was called to allow ADB to to be used root in system, does nothing.
MTKdroidTools doesnt work on MTK6580 so cant get CWM recovery flashed that way.
Have downloaded numerous CWM/PhilzTouch/TWRP and tried to flash them with SPtools, and removing battery before rebooting recovery and that also, doesnt work.
MTKunpacktools cant unpack the recovery.img of stock rom....
Am really at the end of my tether now.
I have the full stock rom installed, and a full SPFlashTools stock back-up if anyone has any ideas? All I'm really wanting is Xposed installed, thats it, and know with another chainfire app I can flash a zip without a recovery, but needs super SU which I cant get installed....
Dont worry, sorted it.
Hello..
We all know that there is a way to get root on the OPX
using the kingroot app without a custom recovery.
But the question is : is it possible to flash TWRP.img through
the terminal emulator? And if it possible, What are the commands ?
Thank you..
I'm not completely sure, but try this..
Do a backup just in-case.
Code:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Here, su is for superuser right and the next command flashes the recovery.
Note that "/sdcard/recovery.img" means that your recovery.img file should be in the root of your Internal storage and should be renamed to "recovery" without quotes.
Kingroot is a "bad" way to root.
IMHO, you should stick on the normal way.
Be sure your BL is correctly unlocked.
Then if your root, you can flash TWRP via an "rashr app"
We king root is a bad way to root? So many times I have tried in many phone's it produces the same result as supersu, and after all i never stick with it. I always replace it with supersu at the end.

I just mean here, because some people gave tutos to easily root without unlocking BKL. Some use them, and after stay stucked trying to flash something.
And Kinroot is a software that try to install you a bunch of crap when you use it...
Hello, i want to root my device, which is a Alcatel 3X 5048Y, but didn't find it a recovery on TWRP or Clockworkmod, what can I do?

In order to root an Android neither TWRP nor CWM is required at all.
I assume you're familiar with how to work with ADB binaries on your computer & USB debugging is turned on on your phone. So just download the SuperSu v2.82 APK for your phone (Google it - it's NOT available on Google Play Store) onto your PC.
Afterwards start an ADB session entering the commands shown next one by one
Code:
adb devices
adb remount
adb install "<FULL_FILEPATHNAME_TO_DOWNLOADED_SU> "
That's all.

Idk why you say this, SuperSU is not an app for rooting
