Head phone jack problems? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed after using the Thunderbolt that I could only hear off and on from the Left ear - the Right was fine. I thought it was the headphones so I went & purchased new ones and after that plugged my phone in using my aux port in my Jeep and the same problem. Its only playing from the Right side speakers*-- so with (2) pairs of headphones & the car I am thinking its the phone?
Any one else had this problem?

my thunder bolt is rooted if that helps

I noticed with mine I had to push the headphones down kinda hard to get left and right audio. Probably not good for the jack though
No, thats not a storm. Its just my Thunderbolt layin down this post.

I have noticed the same thing...with that, and the sleep button, I am not impressed with the build quality of these devices.

Same with me...I get worried everytime I plug something in

Sounds like the headphone jack shorted out. I had the same issue with my og droid. I'd unroot it and get a replacement.

I have to push mine in hard also or I only get sound from one side. Also on phone calls the other person can't hear me if the head phones are plugged in

Does the pair of headphones have a Mic? If they don't then that makes sense on why they can't hear you. I'm rockin headphones now and don't have to shove them in the jack.

Anyone having issues with their headphone jack?

Anyone having issues with their headphone jacks? I noticed on my phone that if I wiggle my headphone while in the phone a tad bit it cuts out the music. Also when using a wired headset I was having issues too.
I bought this at Radioshack, do I go to them for an exchange or to Sprint?
Take it back to RadioShack
Well I exchanged it and still having issues. Sometimes when I hook up external speakers the Evo sees it as headphones or headphones with mic. Sometimes the tracks skip by themselves. Anyone having issues?

Already Addressed.
Thanks for the information. I did a search for headphones and didn't come up with much.
There's also a longer thread, but I can't find it. There under music/audio. It's so F-ING annoying driving and looking down at my phone saying really lol

[Q] Headphone Jack

Is it just me or is the headphone jack, somewhat tight and also sensitive to changes in position? I mean that it takes a bit more effort than usual in order to plug them in, and yet if you pull them out even slightly, the phone will show that they have been disconnected. Is this normal for HTC Amazes or is it just mine in particular?
Although it isn't an extremely terrible problem yet, I'm worried that the jack will loosen and my headphone plugs will be able to move more freely, which would cause it to disconnect often.
Is this normal and should I be concerned?
P.S. I also seem to have an issue with the camera, it occasionally gives me completely blank/black photos when the flash stalls, as in the LEDs stay on for a few seconds before it takes a picture, and then provides me with a black picture. Is anyone else noticed this as well? I'm using Mobilicity Stock ICS, unrooted and S-On.

I agree. When I got my amaze I was goign to return it thinking the headphone jack was broken. After an hour I realized I had to apply hulk strength to get it in properly.

Ah, okay. That's good, because I use the headphone jack all the time. Does it also disconnect if you pull it out slightly?
It takes alot to of energy to pull out also.
If you pull out slightly only the left ear will work.

Yeah, I know it takes a lot of energy to pull it out, but it would be annoying if the jack loosens up and it comes out slightly to the point where it would normally still be connected on normal devices, which would make it disconnect on the Amaze.

I dont think there is anything that can losen it up lol.
It feels like something locks on to it.
With the force it takes to put in the jack and take it out. I was scared one day I would break it. So I bought a bluetooth headset.
Sucks that beats audio doesnt work over bluetooth.

What annoys me though, is that between fully connected and half connected, the the jack will show up as disconnected. It shows as connected when fully in and half way in (with part audio) which intrigues and worries me.
EDIT: Can anyone else verify that the phone shows that headphones are disconnected if they are plugged in between fully plugged in and plugged in halfway?
I have a similar problem. The headphone jack is so tight that if I plug it in my stereo at home or in the car, it will randomly make a pop sound and stop playing music if I so much as touch it. Very irritating. It doesn't do that with headphones, but the jack is so small that I have to cram my headphones in haha. Then again, we should be thankful it's tight and not loose and awful like my old SGSII...

I hate the headphone jack, it's always halfway unplugging if it's barely jostled or touched. It's the one thing I can't stand about this phone design...for awhile I wanted to return it, but T-Mobile doesn't have a phone I'd rather have, haha.

Yeah, lol. At least the good thing about the headphone jack is that the jack is really tight so it keeps the headphones in. I'm just hoping that the jack doesn't loosen up over time.

lol hulk strength, nice. made me laugh. You're right though, anyone having suspected probs with the stereo jack should try to jam it in there. I was about to get a warranty exchange and be without a phone for 3 weeks. I read this forum, and used my hulk strength to jam the jack in there. My case was also slightly making teh jack not all the way go in.
Works okay now, thanks for sharing!

Hey, I know this is old, but my phone does the same thing. I always plug it into my FM transmitter while in my car, but if I spin the 3.5mm cord around in the jack (which I got used to doing, being a very fidgety person), it stops playing immediately. Is this what you've experienced? Has anyone found any information on it?
Thanks.
The headphone jacks at first are a bit stiff but after listening to music so much, they actually loosen up. It takes time to break it in. I don't think it will get too loose though unless you damage the phone.

sound Jack ...!
Hi everyone. Urgent replies are more appreciated. I'm having a bit issue regarding to head phone jack. All appeared just yesterday night . Now whenever I plugged in headphone I have to continuously push it to b able to listen from both ear pieces otherwise after simply putting in like normally v do , only left earpiece is working. Plz tell. What to do. Its X715e unlocked version. Plz tell. But if I plug it in half way just when headphone sign shows it is working fin but when I completely plug in so it works only with left earpiece. While another head phone HTC desire c .that is working fine and nice.
Make sure you don't have lint in it if you do a safety pin works wonders with a flashlight. Still don't work. Like in mine get different headphones. The stock iPhone headphones keep the connection but my other zagg headphones seems the plug is to long and doesn't keep a connection very tight. Only happens with headphones that have microphones. Hope that helps.

Problem with head phone jack?

I can not get a good sound no matter what I do. I have always used power amp and never had a problem with sound. With my epic I always ran music thru my car stereo and it rocked. With this phone I got so mad today at how bad it sounded I just turned off.
I have tried every adjustment I could but no dice. It just sounds distorted no matter what I do. Do u think I have a defective one? Like I said my epic would rock and sounded so good so u would think this phone being the 3rd generation it would be better in sound quality also. I have tried the stock player to and it sounds worse.
Edit: forgot to mention I also had beats flashed onto the epic too.

Try the app from the play store called Volume+. I've used it only to modify the external speaker for better quality on other devices, but there are options to modify sound for the in call speaker & headset also. You'll want to select headset obviously as it just refers to audio out via the 3.5mm jack. I hope this helps you & your able to adjust the audio profile for better quality, as I've had success with this app, but I haven't used it on the gs3 yet?
I'll give that a try. I am also getting a buzzing at the beginning and around the
Middle of songs to. It's about a 1-2 s3 one buzz
Edit: just looked it up. Doesn't work on the Sprint version of the GS3 yet.

Ok, well there are other apps if you google search or search the play store & also look at the roms in your dev section & I will almost guarantee one of them has dsp manager or some sort of audio equalizer app included.
Now the buzzing noise is 95% one of two things. 1) The auxiliary outlet in your car stereo has an issue or it just gets a poor connection, this can happen sometimes in lower end after market head units or for other various reasons I'm sure.2) The auxiliary cable your using is causing it because of a short or because cheaper cables just get a ****ty connection & thus provide ****ty audio quality. Try buying a more expensive one and give it a shot as soon as you get to the parking lot, if the problem persists then you can walk right back in & tell them its not what you needed & get a refund. 3) Your phone has a bad 3.5mm jack. (This is possible, but probably the least likely)
Please report back what your results are after trying these few possible solutions. I think you'll have a viable fix here soon. I hope this helps out.
It's not a cheap deck lol it's Pioneer. The buzzing does it with the stock head phones and my after market jvc earbuds.
If I turn the volume up (headphones) halfway it's starts to sound distorted. With my epic I could rock the volume the whole way up with out any distortion.
I'm starting to wonder if it's the Jack. It's bad lol

I would take it back to Sprint it sounds like there is something wrong with the phone. Unless its the MP3 you are listening to is bad quality.
Edit:
Looks like there is a bug with some phones http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778451

Audio jack issue

Hey,
So I got a new pair of headphones today (Shure Se215's) and I have a major issue with them connecting to my Galaxy sII.
The headphones work perfectly in other devices and I have never had any trouble with other headphones in my own phone.
However with these new headphones the jack seems dodgy. It only gives full sound (not switching between mono and stereo, just tinny as ****) when on the right angle. So right now I cant use them together without constantly holding the cable in the right position.
One similar thing which I have noticed is that connecting an AUX cable has always been dodgy too. The phone will not pick up that it is plugged into an aux cable (Car or home stereos) until I wiggle and jam it in and even then it takes a few seconds if it works at all.
Any help would be great! I have done a lot of searching on here and around the web and haven't found any issues quite the same as mine.
I'm not scared to open up the phone and play with hardware if people think it is necessary.
Cheers

Buy a new part online and do it yourself. I did it for mine when the vibrating module died, it was ridiculously easy and I'd never done anything like that before.

Headphones

For some odd reason, one pair of earphones refuses to work with my dna. At first it thought the earphones were broken but they work on my laptop. Then i thought the dna was broken but when i plugged in a pair of portable speakers, it worked. Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Do you have a case that is not letting your headphone jack from properly/correctly inserting all the way in?
Yes good question

Nope no case on and I made sure that the earphone was plugged all the way in
This my sound crazy but if you luck the top of your headsets that goes into your phone, it works... I had the same problem & somehow I came up w/this resolution every time I use them

That definitely is a new one. I usually just turn it back and forth a bit too clean the contacts.
THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO
Bought a new pair of earbuds that WOULD NOT WORK with my DNA. They work in my computer, my mom's iPhone 5, my dad's GS3... not in my DNA. Every other pair of headphones I've tried works in my DNA. I exchanged those headphones for a new identical pair and they WORK. I have no explanation.
