So I got a new pair of headphones today (Shure Se215's) and I have a major issue with them connecting to my Galaxy sII.
The headphones work perfectly in other devices and I have never had any trouble with other headphones in my own phone.
However with these new headphones the jack seems dodgy. It only gives full sound (not switching between mono and stereo, just tinny as ****) when on the right angle. So right now I cant use them together without constantly holding the cable in the right position.
One similar thing which I have noticed is that connecting an AUX cable has always been dodgy too. The phone will not pick up that it is plugged into an aux cable (Car or home stereos) until I wiggle and jam it in and even then it takes a few seconds if it works at all.
Any help would be great! I have done a lot of searching on here and around the web and haven't found any issues quite the same as mine.
I'm not scared to open up the phone and play with hardware if people think it is necessary.

Buy a new part online and do it yourself. I did it for mine when the vibrating module died, it was ridiculously easy and I'd never done anything like that before.

Iv been looking into the problem about non standard 3.5 mm headphones not working on our x10s and it seems to be to do with the arrangement of the rings an tip and sleeve on the headphone jack, the x10 is 4 pole (trrs) where as normal headphones are 3 pole (trs). This seems to create distortion and / or echos or just music that sounds absolutely awful if you are using a wired headset which is 'iPhone or black berry compatible (these use industry standard 3 pin trs headphone jacks) and certain companies like to make things more awkward and use 'non standard' 4 pin trrs headphone jacks.

The sound goes all wrong unless you press the microphone button and all the pins get connected properly. Below is a couple of adaptors which can fix this problem.

What I used to fix this problem for me was using an adaptor I was given on an airplane at some point and it sorted out the sound so i didnt have to use the mic button and could enjoy my music normally on my V Moda headphones.
I hope this helps out others who have had the same problems with an after market head phones with a mic, and should be the end to your woes

BUMP!!
If any of you guys have ever been on an airplane and they give you the head phone adaptor this will work instead of paying out cash. Finally I can use my V Moda's and the sound great without having to hold the mic button. I can't believe this worked, i only tried it on the off chance! Go search your house for these adapters if you ever got one now, do it!

Sadly I don't have that! I also not willingly to waste $10 on that thing. For now I only can use a paper clip and clip on the mic button, hope it doesn't spoil the headset easily.

The second link is one much cheaper and like I said if you have an adapter they give to you on an airplane with 3.5 jack this will work. Did for me anyway lol

When I'm in my car listening to music through my note I'm always having a problem with getting the most out of my car speakers
For example: (I have equalizers btw) ill dim the volume on the phone but raise the car volume
Sometimes its better or worse when you raise the phone volume all the way and handle it wig the car speakers
Although the lower the phone volume he more, "clear" from the speakers -but not as loud

Yup, that's the way to do it, maybe even 80-90%...unless of course you want to save more battery, then you'd lower the phone volume more

Max out volume on proamp, head unit eq on flat, tweak the eq on proamp, adjust the gain if sounds overdone. I've also set all proamp eq levels on max and its loud as hell

Just have a stock radio in car. No amps or anything but the stock is a decent unit for my needs. I turn the phone about 90% up then adjust from the car unit. Sound is always good for me. I'd say experiment and see what works for you. Don't forget to try an equalizer on and off from the phone. It's really a personal taste thing in my view.
I max out the volume on the note and adjust through the car speakers. I'm having to use an FM transmitter also, as my '05 doesn't have aux in. Still, it sounds great. Even better once i flashed the Beats eq.

In this case your phone is essentially a pure amp while your head unit is the power amp. Even at Max volume, your phone shouldn't be distorting the volume output. You want it all the way or nearly all the way up to allow as much headroom as possible for your power amp. You also don't want to re eq an eqd signal. Decide whether you like your phones or your stereos eq better, and set the other flat. You'll almost always have to tweak a bit further as line in mp3 will have different sound characteristics as a CD or the radio. Also, for the love of God, don't use 128kbps songs like most people.

Try using FLAC or 320...much louder and clear.FLAC IZ WAY BETTER BUT TAKES 3 TIMES THE SPACE.

The one thing I'm trying to figure out is engine noise.
Anyone else getting that or even know what I'm talking about?
if I have my phone plugged into my via head phone jack and nothing is playing on it, you hear a high pitch noise that fluctuates according to the rpms of the engine.
Would be awesome if there was an app to white noise it out or something, haven't checked though.

Do a search on 'inline noise suppressor'. This might help. You could also look at moving the radio's ground wire to a different location and might solve your noise.

After looking that up, I have determined that is not the solution for me. I'm dealing with a factory, stock car aux setup, it shouldn't be giving me problems and as a matter of fact my prior iPhone 3g didn't have this problem at all. I believe this happens with two cars that I've used it in, so while it is related to the car and specifically the engine's RPMs, I believe this can be fixed via the phone for the following reason:
When I push the back button on the phone while it's plugged in it will briefly silence the noise, also when I play Pandora the noise only appears between songs, and no it's not still there being covered up, I would be able to distinguish it in the music.
Anyway, hope someone had another fix for this. Could potentially be a hot selling app if you could figure it out.

what else has changed besides the phone? the charger perhaps? where do you keep your phone? do you keep your phone on it's charger while you listen to it via your stereo?
I run a satilite radio in my truck that runs through an aux line I installed and I get engine noise for a couple of reasons. My aux line isn't heavy duty and sits next to my firewall and effected by the EMI of my engine. The power cable isn't shielded and doesn't have any in line suppression so it's effect from the truck alternator, no matter how clean the signal is, varries as your engine's RPMs move. I run into the same issues with my phone, all of this is in a Sierra Denali truck with a Bose system and also occurrs in my BMW. So no matter how much you paid for a vehicle, it still can be a factor.
So try an inline noise suppressor, they're like $10 at radio shack and if it doesn't work take it back.
You'd be surprised of the effects electricity and EMI will do to your audio.

A few days ago i noticed strange issue on my SXS.It was tipical day for me,after schoole lay down in bed put headphones,and enjoy.And it was ok,until i moved my phone.Music suddenly stoped.So i yought i accidentally somehow pressed stop.But after I moved my phone again,same problem.Than I wondered wtf i haven't touched any of the phones buttons and it stopped...So searching for the factor that causes this problem,i found it.Every time i move my headset jack a little bit,the music stops,like i plugged my headphones off and i didn't.So anyone has thos problem?I don't get it,is it up to the headphones or jack?It's frustrating,i must be like a statue so i can listen the music!

It's just the connection. The lead I use to connect to my stereo is the same, but my earphones are just fine.
I don't believe it's a problem with the phone hardware.
Just out of interest do you use a case? I only ask because my connection is more sensitive if I have the case on. I looked and the case actually slightly gets in the way and the jack is not quite so deep, but earphones are still fine.

Try another headphone before assuming its the jack
You can also try cleaning the jack, see if that helps

For some odd reason, one pair of earphones refuses to work with my dna. At first it thought the earphones were broken but they work on my laptop. Then i thought the dna was broken but when i plugged in a pair of portable speakers, it worked. Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Do you have a case that is not letting your headphone jack from properly/correctly inserting all the way in?

This my sound crazy but if you luck the top of your headsets that goes into your phone, it works... I had the same problem & somehow I came up w/this resolution every time I use them

That definitely is a new one. I usually just turn it back and forth a bit too clean the contacts.
THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO
Bought a new pair of earbuds that WOULD NOT WORK with my DNA. They work in my computer, my mom's iPhone 5, my dad's GS3... not in my DNA. Every other pair of headphones I've tried works in my DNA. I exchanged those headphones for a new identical pair and they WORK. I have no explanation.
OK. So I have looked ALL over the forums and interwebs and I haven't found anything that relates to the problem i'm having!
I have had my S2 for almost 2 years and it has never failed me. Let's say about a year ago I was using my official samsung headphones when the right side stopped working. Considering that it could be the phone's problem I used the headphones in other devices (inclusing pc) and realised that the headphones had the same problem, right side was dead.
So, I tried my sister's headphones (official), worked great for about a week, then the same happened. Right headphoned died!
Then I bought some similar headphones, worked great for 2 days, then....caput! Right side dies!!!
I have tried settings, looking inside audio jack, fiddle around with headphone cable. I HAVE NO CLUE!
Is anyone finding this a problem? Has it happened to anyone else? Is this a common problem with the S2?
I am running Android Jellybean 4.1.2.
I am not rooted and I don't want to take my phone apart. I'm starting to think the S2 is eating away at headphones in general, only the right side.

I've used the stock earphones and a better quality Sony pair....and I'm also using a mod that significantly increases overall volume and bass etc........and so far, my earphones seem to be surviving......when you were using these earphones, did you notice any significant difference in the sound balance between left and right?

Just a question......
With the stock earphones, you have the main (single) cable between the plug and the mic.....and then from the mic, you have a short left cable and a long right cable......were the other earphones you used of the same design, or were they the more traditional type where the left and right cables are the same length?

Nope! Sound quality was perfect every time. Settings were set to stereo and never had to change the equaliser. All earphones would work flawlessly in any music player, video player, youtube...etc. Then quite randomly they would lose sound in the right earphone and never work again on that side in any device. That's 4 sets of headphones I have gone through that have all broken in the same way. I haven't touched a damned thing!
Do you have your earphones in your pocket? Maybe the cable just breaks. Had this a couple of times.

The stock earphones cost maybe $2 to manufacture. I think that might have a lot more to do with it than the phone itself.

Yes. That is a factor I have taken into account. But the headphones have always been wrapped neatly and never bent. It's strange how it only seems to lose audio on the RIGHT side earphone though.

Have used earphones of great quality, costing much more than that. And the same thing has happened.
Are u using the headphones for a lot of things? ( I mean not just your phone) If that is the case, try using the headphones ONLY with your phone and laptop, i've had some problems before like this when i plugged my headphones to my friend's phone and those mini tv things on the bus.

ALL headphones I had were only ever used for the phone! I have great headphones for laptop so the phone ones were never needed.
Then there may indeed be a problem with your phone, maybe it short-circuits or something, you can try s2 nuke from hawkerpaul: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
If this doesn't solve the problem,it's probably hardware and there is nothing you can do, give it to a samsung center.

After going through the OP and ALL the replies, I just want to second the opinion that it is indeed a hardware problem specific to your device only.. So try not to put the fifth pair of headphones in, just visit your nearest Samsung service centre and I am sure they will know how to go about your problem..
