USB Connector Issues - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Starting to have problems with my USB Connector i think!
Basically, if i plug it in, nothing happens, doesn't charge!
If i wiggle it around and hold it in a set place, it starts to work/charge.
Im guessing this means there is a problem with the USB port on the mainboard of the phone?

Hell yeah, seems to happen alot in x10. That's what happened to me, then it fried my battery and wouldn't connect at all to charger or PC. Had to send it off for repair, luckily still under warranty tho. They fixed it, I now take real care when connecting.

Think it could actually be my charger!
Just tried my brothers Blackberry charger, same connection. Plugged in works fine, no waggling needed at all!
Im guessing maybe the connection on the inside of the cahrger is dying or, the hole in the charger has gotton a little too big and doesn't fit snugly in the X10 anymore!

Be carefully using blackberry charger, runs different volt/amp and wont do your battery much good in long run. Get a new Sony charger.

Can I charge via PC USB?

Hello,
I work in IT, and have been given two of these phones that both have their own problems. I finally found a disassembly guide at http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_star_trek/
The one phone has no charging port at all. The other phone has a broken external LCD screen. So I want to move the working external LCD from the phone with the broken proprietary usb port to the phone with the broken screen. In theory I should have a working phone.
Now I don't have any wall charger for this phone (blasted proprietary port!) But I have the usb sync cable that fits the phone. I tried plugging this into 4 different USB ports and none of them will charge the dang thing. I guess my question is, does the USB sync cable charge the STAR100? I have two batteries here that are dead (they sat around for months). I know my Cingular 8525 Hermes charges via the USB port (although that port is very flaky, I use a desktop charger).
So am I out of luck, or do I need to get a wall charger? I could find one at work to test tomorrow, but I would of liked to test it now.
move
instead of doing that, move the working control board from the one with the good charging port to the other one, it will be much easier and yes you can use the usb to charge.
Thanks I got it to work.
Today at work I sourced a wall charger. That made the LED light red on the phone, after awhile it turned orange, then green (after about 4+ hours). Now it appears to charge off the USB cable at home.
Now if I can only figure out how to get a T-Mobile sim to work in it, without paying an unlocking service (I have enough bills to pay with a wedding coming up this October).

X10 mini usb charging problem

Today I wanted to charge my phone via USB. But now it is discharging. Why ? I'm using another microUSB cable, not original one. Phone says charging(USB) but i've lost 40% so far.
Mine does this too - I've found turning it off, letting it charge for a bit in the off state, then turning it back on again gets it to charge properly again
I have read many threads around the web, and there seems to be many errors concerning charging errors with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
In my case it was the usb micro cable it self.
Day 1
I received the mob.
Charged it to full, using usb cable and AC/DC/USB-adapter, while i was turned on.
Day 2
Checked out the mob until there was only 15% left on the battery indicator.
Trying to charge just like day1...faliure...nothing happens :-(
Trying to charge via PC...faliure...nothing happens :-(
Trying to charge just like day1 with mob turned off...succes...it is charging
I let it charge to the next day.
Day 3.
Morning...i can see it has stopped charging...it must be full ?
I turn on the mob.
Nope only 46% ??? Damn.
I try charging while on, via adapter and PC...faliure :-(
I leave it on the table for about 2 hours and then come back.
I plug out the cable and...hmmm...the micro connector is a bit warm...hmmm
The mob i cold all over...it might be the cable thats faulty
I get my HTC HD2 usb micro cable...plug it in...and plug it to adapter
Succes Its charging...also via PC.
It seems:
The standard SE micro usb cable (that we are warned, only to use) is faulty.
I have read that many, have got their mob back from service repair, and i still dosent work ? Time after time.
It must be because, the service repair center is using their own micro usb cable, and there by not discovering what the real error is....the standard cable following the mini is defekt.
I have written to SE in Denmark...im waiting for their answer...if they are wise, then they are going to check their hole stock of cables
Well i got an answer fro SE
Guess what the answer was ???
"We have never had errors like that in our service department!"
I know the are lying, or just ignoring errors, because my daugthers friend had the exact same problem...witch SE couldent repair (2 attempts).
Posetive thing:
SE offered to change my micro usb cable to a new 1 (faulty one i guess)
I wrote back to SE:
I do not need a new cable since i have 3 working noname micro usb cables!
And explained the hold shabang 1 more time, telling them that the repair center would not catch the error unless, they used the exact same cable as the costumer!.
Since then i havent heard from SE
Conclusion:
SE doesnt give a damn about their costumers problems
Consequence:
I dont wanna buy an SE cellphone ever again!!! (this phone was for my daughter).
From now on i stick to HTC...ive got at HTC HD2 and i just LOOOOOOVE IT
PS. The micro usb cable for my HD2 works perfect with the mini pro. No charging errors at all
hello...
Well guys i was with the same problem... the mobile was discharging when connected to USB port... so i just changed the USB port and it begun to charge!!!!!
SOmetimes the USB port has no power to charge so u may change it...
for me it worked well.
good luck
I have this problems, since few days ago.
And after a search in many web pages, the solutions didn´t appear, I don´t know, if this a issue whit the usb cable or the usb slot in the phone, I really try differents things, turn on while push the camera button, or the - vol button, sometimes work, but is really a pain in the a...
if someboby already find a solution lets us know.

i had the same problem with my phone, initially i replaced the cable then i sent the phone for repair twice as the first time it was not fixed.
6 months later the charging fault reoccurs, so i took phone apart myself and found that the mini usb socket had come away from the pcb.

Do you have the model number?
I'll check when I get back home.

I'm curious as well. I thought that something was wrong with my phones USB port as I have to wiggle it around before it connects (very loose connection). tried plugging my phone in with other cables (blackberry and arc) and it stayed connected fine. Friend of mine plugged her phone in using my cable and it did the same thing as it does with mine. It's reassuring to know it's not the phone as that would be expensive to fix, the cable on the other hand is cheaper If you find one let me know.
Sorry, I seem to have lost the little tag on the USB cable that shows the model number.
Hi,
I have "datacable by OTB" which also charges my nokia for a few bugs from EBay. Every cable with mini- (micro-?) usb should do.
Ralf
Asked my friend, Model Number is EC600L
Ye any micro USB cable will work.
Some people prefer OEM
It's a feature! micro USB was intentionally designed so that the cable will wear out rather than the jack.
On another thread it was suggested that biting on the end of the cable tightens the cable allowing it to connect. I seem to have revitalized my old original cable though I substituted a pair of needle nose pliers for my teeth.

If you really want a model number I recently bought an OEM cable for a spare for work etc its labelled CA-101
As above though its a standard micro usb cable ...
(used this cable recently to flash and then reflash my x10i after killing my phone with various patching and the cable works great lol!)
Note I also use a Nokia mains charger for my spare work charger as that's all the guy had on his stall and it works just fine
I have the Nokia CA-101. ill check the OEM one when I get home. but I like the Nokia OEM one. it's longer :3

I am using an BB micro-USB cable as my alternative cable which cost me MYR10 around 3USD. Bought from a local Computer shop. Mobile phone shop sell at higher price.
Notice that the stock cable charge my phone bat. will reach @ 40'c while the BB micro-USB cable will above 40'c. Maybe due to the stock cable having 'resistor' locate near the both end of the cable meanwhile the BB micro-USB cable don't have.

[Q] Charging problem

My dad's X10 is giving a strange charging problem.
Suddenly it stopped charging via official charger and with USB too but my X10 charges fine with the same charger so no problem in charger.
Now the strange part it that I had an old nokia usb wire lying around. To my surprise the phone charges properly using it via USB.
So what is the problem with? Only sending it for repair is the choice?
thanks
possibly the battery mate, or maybe a loose usb, the usb cables for x10's are crazy, iv been through 3 so far, they wont charge my phone, but they charge my wifes xperia mini pro sk17i no problem at all, i think there is a slight size difference between mine and her port and also check the "springy metal grabbers" on the micro usb which end you plug into phone lol hope this helps

I have two official chargers tried both. Doesnt work but my x10 charges fine lol
Try this...
Dude maybe the usb port of your dad's X10 is broken/damaged/loose. If the "tongue" inside the USB port is tilted down, try using a thin and small "negative" screwdriver to position the "tongue" of the USB port in the center of the port, maybe that could help in charging the USB. There's also another way, try using another usb cable, I've been using alot of cables for my X10, even use some nokia cables for it since it also has microUSB. If it still doesnt work, try using a universal charger where everytime you charge, you need to remove your battery off the X10 and insert it in the universal charger. Hope this helps.

Thats a good tip but take care with the universal battery chargers they kill batteries if left to charge too long

[Q] Charges at a certain angle.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0, and lately it won't charge naturally (it doesn't charge when you just plug the USB cable to the port and to the wall), but you need to charge it a certain angle (eg move it until you hear the charging sound but afterwards it won't charge when you remove it!)
I have the original Samsung adapter that came with the SGP Box, but I replaced the original USB cable with another one because of the charge-at-a-certain-angle problem. I changed my USB cable thrice now, but the problem persists.
The weird thing is, it charges perfectly on a BLACKBERRY CHARGER. Although the problem is still there when I charge it with the BB charger, it never got to the point where I had to apply so much pressure on my tablet.
I just want to know what is causing this problem and a solution. I can't always use the BB charger since my sister brings it with her to school everyday. -_-
I had the same problem with my Galaxy SI. I was forced to place a book directly under the usb cable so that the phone sloped downwards. I had different luck with different usp cables. My girlfriends usb cable -that was relatively new worked fine as it sat quite snuggly/tight. Others, new or old, that did not sit as tight did not work.
Take you phone to a PC hardware store and test a few.
Hopefully you will find that it is the usb cable that is worn and not the inside of the phone.
Thanks, I'll try that out!
