Ok so as I expected I've bricked one of my dell streak devices. The unit was having issues rebooting a few times a day while I was debugging my application using eclipse so I flashed 351 to see if it would help. Well my custom kernel (USB OTG mainly) wouldn't work with that so I flashed back to 318 and tried to flash only the 351 baseband well after that streak is completely bricked. No Dell Log, No Lights, No QDLTool. Some phones and devices have solder points that can be bridged to recover this kind of brick but havn't been able to find anything about that on the streak. Company doesn't want to buy a JTAG machine now but thinking of buying one on my own if I have to.

Have you found any solution. I have the same problem since couple of weeks.
Sadly no I'm about to buy a JTAG machine I think I spent the entire day studying one of our dead circuit boards and couldn't find anything.
I think the best thing and most easiest is to buy a broken screen streak on ebay (around $100-170) to swap the motherboard thing. That's what I did for my streak which wouldn't start at all since I flashed the wrong files!!!!! Jtag is really troublesome if one doesn't know a thing about soldering and it is expensive.
while that would work I'm a EE with very good soldering skills and many different android devices. This is the first i've ever bricked (luckily it was work's :lol but I'm sure as I keep doing lower level stuff it will be more common.
Call Dell & tell them that it won't come on & they'll exchange it if you are still under warranty.

so yesterday at the gym i dropped my phone a few feet down of the elyptical and unfortunatly the lcd inside started bleeding, the glass was fine, but the lcd was obviously damaged inside, so after reading a few things on here i took a shot in the dark at seeing if dell would replace my cell phone for me, i guess i was one of the lucky ones and im getting dispatched a new phone, my question is, am i able to restore my new phone with a nandroid backup of my old my phone that i have saved, like would the phone then just be identicle at that point, does it work like that? and what would my steps be on getting my phone back to where it is, tho i am familiar with QDL tool to a certain extent and do have the drivers set up on my laptop am i going to have to re-root it then i could restore from nandroid? any advice would be appreciated! thank you so much!

That is very good for you. I wonder how much longer will we be able to get a replacement on damaged or a faulty Streak? . Whats up with Dell pulling the Streak totally from their catalog? Firstthere were onlinerumors that it was pulled for internal updates. Now the Dell.com site says "farewell Dell Streak 5, its been a long ride"' or something like that as its discontinued. Posted a question on their facebook page and still cant get an official comment.
I am from India. I was gifted Samsung Vibrant from my friend from US. I was using it with miui 2.3.7 update with bootloaders. But unfortunately I made downgrade to stoc 2.2 froyo with odin3 (without wiping data and caches). As The downgrade process completed with passing in odin, my phone switched off and it never again witched on. No buttons working, no display on screen. I am really frustated. Pl. help me solving it in India.
You've hard bricked your phone. Do a search for a JIG for the vibrant its the only way to resurrect a hard bricked vibrant like that.

actually jtag is probably what he needs.
You can get someone to JTAG it for you, Mumbai Manish market has some people to do it. Search on this forum, has been mentioned before.

You don't need jig or jtag. Just watch this video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqxearzXrVY
Enjoy your popcorn and soda lolz
As you can see the steps are very simple:
1. Remove the battery
2. Hold Vol up & Down
3. Slide in the battery
4. Plug in USB
From the way it sounds he won't be able to get into download mode. He ODIN'd a rom with a conflicting boot loader that's what causes this issue typically. Its the only way to hard brick a vibrant. He's gonna need a JTAG not Jig like I said before.

I did exactly what the OP did. I had Passion v8 or v9 with the a GB bootloader. I odined back to stock JFD without changing bootloaders and bricked my phone. I picked one up a jig from TW website and I'm rocking again.

Then you had a different issue not a bootloader mismatch. If you're primary and secondary bootloaders don't match you need jtag. A jig is a handy piece of equipment and it's worth a shot but he probably needs jtag. And btw i've odined to jfd dozens of times with gingerbread bootloaders and never had an issue.

You can find a jig on amazon.com for less than 5 bucks.
I have flashed JFD stock many times while staying on GB Bootloader, you just have to make sure you don't have the Phone Bootloader Update checked and also make sure you are using odin 1.81 or later.
With all that aside, I have once gotten my phone to the point where it will not respond or have anything light up. I was able to fix it without a JIG.
I did what the jayprime above had stated but I will go into just a touch more detail, I would suggest trying it as it is worth a try.
1: First load Odin 1.81 on the computer and make sure you have a USB plugged in directly to the computer and without using a USB Hub.
2: Next Take Battery and SIM card out of phone.
3: Put the battery back in and while holding Volume up and Down plug the cable into the phone. (most likely you won't see a response on the phone it's self but should see COM light up in ODIN.)
4: Download the JFD bootloader .tar file and load it under PDA and make sure the box for updating Bootloader is still unchecked.
5: Now Click Start.
6: Repeat steps except this time load the 512pit file and the stock JFD image into the PDA slot.
Please note that if you have the you may still have the GB bootloader installed. If the above steps fail at Step 4. Try using the Up Arrow + Power button combo while the phone is already plugged into the the USB cable and with a fresh battery pull and insertion.
There is the UnBrickable mod you can do too. This requires some skillz, though.
Are you sure it didn't just reincarnate as a nexus?
I couldn't help myself.

thanx frndz for great answers. I think it would be solved with JTAG. I have given my phone to a hardware expert and he is to solve this problem. When I will get it I will tell u how he did it. Anyway thanx again 2 all...

Your phone is dead.
You can buy a Broken Screen Vibrant, and change the Motherboard. as I did with the mine! (I buy one in Ebay US) (me happen some like you!!!)
i feel sad for those who spent money replacing D: it sucks its happened to me 4x my vibrant even said it was a I9000 at start up before it said vibrant LOL @ me for flashing the wrong ROM but to even get that far i had to get passed the damn BLACK SCREEN... A number of button combinations work and you will read on some posts that if your phone is/got/gets hot your fried it thats not true either just takes a bit of patience in my case about 6 hours of searching forums and in the end simple button combinations eventually worked i think it helps if the battery is dead because it seems as though it wont work otherwise
Where are you located? Did you contact the person in Mumbai for JTAG ?

Thanks for you help!

You should at least be able to remove the battery and put it back in and then charge.... if it still won't charge then there's something you're not telling us
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
Nope. It still won't charge.. The last thing I was doing before it batt died was flashing rom.
When plugged in does it turn on at all? If it doesn't, then you bricked your Streak.

Can I ask you two things? Why flash ROM without being connected to power or why flash knowing your battery is low?
If you are bricked which is more than likely the case then you have to use QDL tool
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I was expecting it to finish before the battery died..
For weird reason, the charger was having issue.
Could you guide me on the tool to restore it?
I've never had to use the QDL Tool so I'm not familiar with it. Worse, if your Streak is totally bricked like I believe, the QDL Tool won't help you.

Learn to use the Search soon because you are apparently the type that really doesn't put much research into what you do so search QDL tool... but if your Streak is NOT recognized after you install the new drivers then you pretty much have a paperweight because of carelessness
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
How'd you manage to get into recovery with a low battery anyway?! Streakmod usually throws up a low battery message if I try to get into recovery when the battery is below 10 or 15%. What recovery were you using?
You can grab the QDL Tool here.
http://www.rdtk.net/2011/07/16/modding-your-streak-where-to-start/
Of course, like Strephon Alkhalikoi said, if the phone is completely bricked and not getting detected by Windows, then even the QDL tool won't be of much help to you.
What I would try...
Hi guys,
I am quite new to flashing ROMs on Android smartphones and I don't own a Dell Streak. I have never had this problem on my Desire S as I have always flashed custom ROMs with a charged battery. I apologise if this post isn't helpful and I'm guessing someone has already thought of that. However, in that case, I would expect a more widely known explanation of why it wouldn't work.
Anyway, wouldn't it be possible for you to swap the dead battery in your smartphone with a charged battery? Either borrow your friend's phone or beg your local phone shop to charge your battery for you... I know, it sounds dumb... but would it work?

i am sorry to say this but the last post was 22nd May 2012, 12:12 AM....
it is impossible to brick this device, if you were trying to install a custom Rom , your steak is just fine, don't panic, the same happened to me before, use old qdl, to revive your streak, if you were trying to update from a pkg, your streak is just ok, first watch the physical connections, then continue with reviving the device, remember, streak is virtually impossible to be bricked, unless you boil it in salty water.

my phone was dead while flashing on low battery, now it is not charging and not booting
My Dell Streak 5 can't boot up or power up even the dell logo nothing is displayed...which is nothing displayed or black screen....anybody can help me about this issue....
History of the unit:
My unit was upgraded to build 406...when my unit in fastboot mode to install amss and dsp1.mbn and after that when i reboot automatically my unit stack so i decided to pull-out the battery for a minute and put back to power up but nothing happens i don't know what happens and i trying to use qdl tool but the qualcoom driver can't install....
please help me to resolve this problem....
thank you...
Your Streak is dead. Your choices in resolving this problem are as follows:
1. Purchase a secondhand Streak on ebay. Finding one with a broken screen will be less expensive than an intact unit since all that needs to be done is replace the motherboard.
2. Search the forums for JTAG. One of the posts has a link to a company that can resurrect your Streak. Be aware however that you most likely will not be able to use the Streak to make calls afterward.

Thank you for your advice....i'm looking only for the driver of qualcomm and finally i got it...and now my phone was communicated with the desktop pc and i'm qdl tool to recover...and my phone is alive again...
Not having the driver at all is a different beast from what you initially posted, which was that the driver would not install, implying that you had the driver. Had I known that you were looking for the driver I would have never said your Streak was dead and could have tried to point you to the driver.
iam happy for your steak as it started to breath again
Hi, I have fully bricked my Dell Streak 5 device - it's totally dead and even a computer can't recognize it. Do you think it's possible to take out the internal memory from Streak and upload a new ROM on it?
Next solution is to use the RIFF JTAG BOX, but the device itself cost about 200$ in my country and also nobody uses it here for repairing bricked phones. And sending my Streak to USA for repair - it's a little bit risky I think.
Thanks for reply
The low level firmware, which isn't user accessible, is gone. You could load a ROM onto the internal MicroSD if you wished, but without the aforementioned low-level firmware it won't do anything.
Your options are to have the Streak JTAGged, or to purchase a replacement.

Hmm, that's bad. My Streak is still under warranty, so I have written to the service and they replied me that repair isn't possible, if the motherboard (they probably meant that low level firmware) is broken. So they will give me new device? I told them that my Streak have discharged and since then is totally dead. Can they recognize, that Streak was broken after the unsuccesfully ROM upgrade?
They likely can tell. They may still replace it, but obviously there's no way to know until you talk to them.
