Dell Streak 5 Power On Issue - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Dell Streak 5 can't boot up or power up even the dell logo nothing is displayed...which is nothing displayed or black screen....anybody can help me about this issue....
History of the unit:
My unit was upgraded to build 406...when my unit in fastboot mode to install amss and dsp1.mbn and after that when i reboot automatically my unit stack so i decided to pull-out the battery for a minute and put back to power up but nothing happens i don't know what happens and i trying to use qdl tool but the qualcoom driver can't install....
please help me to resolve this problem....
thank you...

Your Streak is dead. Your choices in resolving this problem are as follows:
1. Purchase a secondhand Streak on ebay. Finding one with a broken screen will be less expensive than an intact unit since all that needs to be done is replace the motherboard.
2. Search the forums for JTAG. One of the posts has a link to a company that can resurrect your Streak. Be aware however that you most likely will not be able to use the Streak to make calls afterward.

Thank you for your advice....i'm looking only for the driver of qualcomm and finally i got it...and now my phone was communicated with the desktop pc and i'm qdl tool to recover...and my phone is alive again...

Not having the driver at all is a different beast from what you initially posted, which was that the driver would not install, implying that you had the driver. Had I known that you were looking for the driver I would have never said your Streak was dead and could have tried to point you to the driver.

iam happy for your steak as it started to breath again

[Q] Fix a bricked streak (really bricked)

Ok so as I expected I've bricked one of my dell streak devices. The unit was having issues rebooting a few times a day while I was debugging my application using eclipse so I flashed 351 to see if it would help. Well my custom kernel (USB OTG mainly) wouldn't work with that so I flashed back to 318 and tried to flash only the 351 baseband well after that streak is completely bricked. No Dell Log, No Lights, No QDLTool. Some phones and devices have solder points that can be bridged to recover this kind of brick but havn't been able to find anything about that on the streak. Company doesn't want to buy a JTAG machine now but thinking of buying one on my own if I have to.

Have you found any solution. I have the same problem since couple of weeks.
Sadly no I'm about to buy a JTAG machine I think I spent the entire day studying one of our dead circuit boards and couldn't find anything.
I think the best thing and most easiest is to buy a broken screen streak on ebay (around $100-170) to swap the motherboard thing. That's what I did for my streak which wouldn't start at all since I flashed the wrong files!!!!! Jtag is really troublesome if one doesn't know a thing about soldering and it is expensive.
while that would work I'm a EE with very good soldering skills and many different android devices. This is the first i've ever bricked (luckily it was work's :lol but I'm sure as I keep doing lower level stuff it will be more common.
Call Dell & tell them that it won't come on & they'll exchange it if you are still under warranty.

[Q] Getting replacement phone from dell

so yesterday at the gym i dropped my phone a few feet down of the elyptical and unfortunatly the lcd inside started bleeding, the glass was fine, but the lcd was obviously damaged inside, so after reading a few things on here i took a shot in the dark at seeing if dell would replace my cell phone for me, i guess i was one of the lucky ones and im getting dispatched a new phone, my question is, am i able to restore my new phone with a nandroid backup of my old my phone that i have saved, like would the phone then just be identicle at that point, does it work like that? and what would my steps be on getting my phone back to where it is, tho i am familiar with QDL tool to a certain extent and do have the drivers set up on my laptop am i going to have to re-root it then i could restore from nandroid? any advice would be appreciated! thank you so much!

That is very good for you. I wonder how much longer will we be able to get a replacement on damaged or a faulty Streak? . Whats up with Dell pulling the Streak totally from their catalog? Firstthere were onlinerumors that it was pulled for internal updates. Now the Dell.com site says "farewell Dell Streak 5, its been a long ride"' or something like that as its discontinued. Posted a question on their facebook page and still cant get an official comment.

Looks like you just bricked your device, and what's worse,no cure for that.I dont know if replacing inner sd card helps, but obviously no simple solution,if there's a solution it would be a hardware one.

This right here is why we repeatedly tell new users to read everything they can get their hands on before attempting to root the Streak. Try QDL Tool, but even if it does resurrect the Streak, the chances are really good that the Streak will not be useable for calls.
I'm not sure what you meant but the way i read it, seems like it ran the battery down and now won't turn on, if that's the case charge it while re reading the guides.
@sanyokt4j: The OP ran Fastboot with the -w/-erase command as noted in his first post. Doing so to a Streak is virtually a death sentence because the Fastboot command has issues with the Streak. The end result of running that command is a Streak that won't turn on at all and may not be fixable by any means, even the QDL Tool. Thus, using the factory reset option in the recovery is the recommended option to wipe the Streak.
He can put the Streak on charge all day long, but it won't do anything. If the Streak isn't recognized by the QDL Tool, then it's nothing but a very expensive paperweight.

I do not understand your comment, please could be explained in more detail, thanks for comment
@Strephon Alkhalikoi: sorry i must have missed that part, in which case I agree with everything mentioned about QDL Tool
Edit: I'm not sure if this helps but these guys helped me rescue a streak that wouldn't power on, maybe keep this as a last resort?

are strong words, I hope they are not true and I say this without wanting to offend. effectively use the tool QDL tool, following the guide-tutorial.swf qdltool, the look on the web. My pc does not show the notification windows 7 "Installing device driver software." the streak does not detect in any way. is hard to believe that a command such as this could damage a gadget so expensive.
Could someone explain exactly what damage this command is something in the microsd or within the streak

Look, I'm not going to sugar-coat this for you. What I said is paraphrased from both the Wiki and a sticky thread on rooting the Streak. Your hope that what I say isn't true is in vain, because it is true.
You didn't do enough research using the tools this site provides and tried to root your Streak anyway. Congrats, because you just earned a shiny, new and very expensive paperweight as a result. If Windows doesn't see the Streak it won't install the drivers. Thus the Streak is dead.

thanks for you comments, Is really sad
Try the site linked in post #10. Just be aware that even if you do get the Streak resurrected using the JTAG pad, there's a very good chance the Streak will never work for making calls.
check the link and I am considering as an alternative, but I wrote the riff manufacturer jtag box the following:
"I have Several questions:
1) for the case streak 5 after unbrick the 3G and GSM function would be enabled to function as new and unlocked, or the streak would only be a tablet with wifi or 3g without sim?
2) the service tag dell and imei, would continue to be the original or changed unbrick?
3) the streak have android 2.3, unbrick change that?
4) That I POSSESS additional accessory to unbrick the dell streak 5? "
when I answer it publishes in another post
what matters is:
1.you wont be able to use your device as a phone even if you made it to bring it back.
2.you need additional equipments and lots of work.
3.dell will not cover your ass for free,no one will.cuz you run the wrong command and screwed the internal partition,it's your fault.

Greetings, I would like to check that the correct steps to make windows detect me my streak and then use the QDL tool, could you confirm that is correct, the procedure I followed:
1) The battery 100% charged and removed from my streak.
2) The streak has internal memory of 2 gb microsd installed.
3) The streak and the PC, do not have USB cable connected between them
4) Insert the battery in the streak and placed the back cover
5) I press and hold down the up volume key (the key closest to 3.5mm plug)
6) Insert the USB cable between my streak and PC
7) I wait for 30 seconds and release the volume key (I test by holding down the volume of 5,10,20 and 30 seconds)
8) I wait for 5 minutes for 32-bit Ultimate windows detects my streak into the USB port
9) Since nothing has happened, start at step 1 again
* I tried on all usb ports have my pc
* I rebooted the pc every time I go to make the sequence of step 1 to 9
* According to my computer concepts do not have to install any additional driver for windows detect any USB device
Question: I made the correct sequence?
5) I press and hold down the up volume key (the key closest to 3.5mm plug)
looks like you did it the wrong way, here's some quote:
Safe Mode - Hold VolUp button while power on
Recovery Mode - Hold VolUp+VolDown while power on
Fastboot Mode - Hold Camera button while power on, then select Fastboot by touching top-right screen corner
Device may not want to power on while holding any other button than power, so press only power button and then after the softbuttons light up, IMMEDIATELY press the wanted hardware buttons combination and hold while device powers on.

[Q] Streak dead?

Evening,
I'd left my Streak off for the most part of two months. Today I turned it on to find it sits on the Dell logo.
I cannot access recovery.
I cannot access fastboot.
I have run streakflash.zip QDL and repairtool.zip QDL - neither have brought it back to life. The latter (repairtool.zip) errors when trying to reboot the device into fastboot, which isn't accessible. So that made sense to me.
I've also swapped out the *internal* SD card with that of another Streak on the off-chance that would help. It didn't.
My thoughts are now swaying towards brick. In a last ditch effort I've come on here to see if other minds may have a solution.
It was working fine as a daily driver but 2 months ago, bizarre.
Thanks
Morning,
Having left the battery out over night, this morning it booted past the dell logo, onto the boot animation and into android. The LEDs flashed continuously the entire time. It will not respond to any input once booted.

Hard to help not knowing what ROM you have on it...
But LEDs flashing means a mismatch of baseband and kernel... get that straightened out... its a common issue... some reading will get you a long way

You're right, reading will get you a long way. If you had, you'd have seen I have no access to recovery or fastboot. Also, that this came on randomly after non-use. Previously it worked fine - no radio issues.
As for the rom, 319.
If you know how to flash radios without fastboot, please do feel free to show me where this has previously been documented. Honestly, that's all I ever see on posts requesting help recently - "read", "search".
Once upon a time, people read the threads thouroughly and tried to help, rather than assuming the OP has done absolutely nothing up until now and suggesting they go away and read.
I shall eat my words if this has been documented. I couldn't find anything on this specific issue.

I read it alright... notice I DIDNT SAY flash anything I said straighten it out... how you end up being able to do it depends on the info YOU find...
If you can't access your DELL recovery you either have an internal memory issue or a hardware issue with your volume buttons (of course we don't know which because you didn't bother to mention WHY you can't access recovery or fastboot... but I'm assuming its a hardware problem

you need to do a streakflash my friend...
I've run streakflash qld / vanilla qld but neither resolved the problem. It fails trying to boot to fastboot because fastboot can't be accessed.
The volume buttons work as I can get it to a point of diagnostics to run streakflash.
I made it clear that nothing has been done to prompt this when I stated it didn't turn on after 2 months of non-use. It worked fine before that. So no, you did not read.

[Q] Dell Streak 5 fully bricked - internal memory solution?

Hi, I have fully bricked my Dell Streak 5 device - it's totally dead and even a computer can't recognize it. Do you think it's possible to take out the internal memory from Streak and upload a new ROM on it?
Next solution is to use the RIFF JTAG BOX, but the device itself cost about 200$ in my country and also nobody uses it here for repairing bricked phones. And sending my Streak to USA for repair - it's a little bit risky I think.
Thanks for reply
The low level firmware, which isn't user accessible, is gone. You could load a ROM onto the internal MicroSD if you wished, but without the aforementioned low-level firmware it won't do anything.
Your options are to have the Streak JTAGged, or to purchase a replacement.

Hmm, that's bad. My Streak is still under warranty, so I have written to the service and they replied me that repair isn't possible, if the motherboard (they probably meant that low level firmware) is broken. So they will give me new device? I told them that my Streak have discharged and since then is totally dead. Can they recognize, that Streak was broken after the unsuccesfully ROM upgrade?
They likely can tell. They may still replace it, but obviously there's no way to know until you talk to them.
