did you make an ext2 partition, convert it to ext3 then finally to ext4 ? did you have that same memory card inserted while booting up??
and sorry but your english is really hard to understand like this part :

@rpdo :
Usually void rom takes a really long time to boot up ( first boot only, though ).
Also, after wiping data, dalvik-cache, etc. , flash the Debug-FormatSYSTEM zip file present in mik's cyanogenmod thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11785758&postcount=557
After that, flash the void rom.
@pachuau86 :
No need for SD partition. I tried it without that partition and it booted up successfully.

really...? can it boot without memory card??
i guess if you create an EXT partition, then you HAVE to boot with a memorycard with a partition. But if you didnt create it, it boots up fine since you didnt create it in the first place... just my theory since mine wasnt able to boot without the partitioned card

sorry but my English is google what you mean and that from time to time the
phone locks up and stays on that screen, and yes did the partitions

then i guess you better ask in the ROM thread, i had no problems with this ROM from the start, after trying others, i keep coming back to void#echo

[Q] Corrupt files in /sdcard root

^^That's what's at the root of my gtab's /sdcard.
Also, there used to be two folders in that that I had created and are no longer there.
Here's what I was doing immediately before I noticed this:
I'm currently using TnT Lite. I need to be able to access wifi at work but my company uses EAP encryption and TnT doesn't have a setting for EAP. I decided that rather than switching roms, I would just switch settings menus (using the files found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857939).
Stupid me, I downloaded them to /sdcard2 rather than /sdcard. I booted into clockworkmod and tried to install the zip from the sdcard but clockworkmod couldn't find anything. I realized my mistake and rebooted the gtab and hooked up the usb to my pc. That's when I noticed the file corruption.
Everything still seems to work as it did before, I just don't have access to any of the files that were in those folders.
In case it matters, one folder held the TnT Lite rom and the other held several videos.
Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this?
Should I try to delete the corrupted files?
Any help with this is much appreciated.
I don't claim to know why this happens this is just what I did to fix my problem.
I noticed this on my gtab also, to the point my cal program wouldn't open. The only way I could fix it was to do an sd partition to it fix the issue. There are instructions on how to do that with cm8. This is from memory so please double check, go to the advanced options choose sd partition 2048/0. Please note that this wipes the sd card so back up prior.
I still get a few of those weird files buy not like before.
same thing happened to me but hasn't come back after
re-partitioning with cwm ... maybe that is the fix
I would *really* like to know why this happens (that and why
the sdcard2 gets wiped out sometimes).
Basically, you dare not trust android with any important data
and you never know if what's on it will disappear suddenly
Unfortunately, this makes the tablet just a toy
So is the best option really just to re-partition the sd card?
If I end up re-partitioning, will I have to flash the ROM over again? Or does partitioning just remove the user data?
Quote: will I have to flash the ROM over again?
No

Formatting internal SD card?

Going to sell my DNA but I want to wipe it. I am first going to do the traditional wipe and re-install the ROM. Then I want to clean off the SD card. I have TWRP. If I do a wipe of just the internal sd card will it keep my system untouched so I can boot into the ROM?
Connect the phone to PC, delete all files on the phone, place stock ROM onto the phone, boot to recovery do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) The ROM should still be in data/media. Flash it, reboot, connect to PC, delete ROM file and don't run setup.
There may be a better way but as far as I know the internal card contents won't wipe unless you explicitly choose it. If you can do that from recovery then that will work.
Wipe as normal, flash ROM, then in advanced wipe choose internal storage, swipe to wipe, done. Fresh ROM and no SD card contents.

I have'nt sold a phone in awhile but if there's any photos you don't wnat out I'd look into a way to overwrite the contents of the internal storage as well.

I have a script for that, it uses dd and writes over the entire data partition with zeroes. Takes forever, but literally zeroes out the SD card and the rest of data, so even apps or app data are gone.

[HELP] Internal SD Card Gone, stock firmware won't flash

First of all, this is not related to any unsuccessfull flash process, I got my S3 in 2012 and it worked like a charm after many flash processes. The last ROM is - was :'( - Blekota Note 4 Lite 5.2
The problem came when this morning, I plugged my phone to charge, it was 3% battery, I left it for 1 hour and when I came back, the back of the phone was very hot and the phone screen hanging on the first image of boot animation. I unplugged it and removed battery, once turned on, it did not leave the samsung logo. I suppose the chip simply fried...
I was looking for a solution and found something that may be for help, but the solution i found was for SGS-I9000, the process did not work for my S3 (this one with two others related to sgs1), I formatted the sd card with 16GB Ext 4 and 16GB Fat32.
As I am not familiar with scripts and linux commands, my question is simple:
Is there a way to install a ROM in external SD card ? my phone starts in download mode and I am able to flash TWRP (or any other recovery) via odin, this one shows me Internal SD card capacity as 0 when I try to install anything. See attachments below, the red messages appear also when trying to flash stock firmware , after the first reboot (I9300XXEMD3_I9300OJVEMC1_I9300XXEMA5)

If you cant mount anything, its either your internal storage is burnt too or corrupted from being affected by the burn. Your s3 might be basically destroyed

That's the point of trying to install system in external SD
Unfortunately that is impossible. Sorry

Can't format Phone in TWRP, actually cant do anything

Hey folks,
I think I briked my Phone last night but I dont give up on it.
What happened: I tried to flash a new ROM because my current Custom ROM didnt appeal to me at all. So I went into TWRP and made a normal wipe. Then I tried to install new new ROM.zip. The first odd thing was that I couldnt navigate to the download folder on my external sd card. The good thing was that the old ROM.zip was available for flashing so I decided to flash the old ROM anew. And then...nothing happened. I couldnt intall the ROM. Not even the Gapps.zip was able to be flashed.
Then I thought I could try it via Fastboot on the PC (I have a Motorola x Style/Pure) and googled how to do it. I found a command to install a .zip and tried it. But it didnt work: It said smth like 'Bootloader denied'. So that wasnt the ways to go for me.
After that I went back into TWRP and looked on the command line. And there was smth odd aswell. I said: "Failed to mount '/cache' (Invalid argument). The same with 'data'. The internet said I should format (not wipe) the storage in TWRP. I tried it and although it said that it was successfull nothing was...TWRP is still unable to mount cache and data.
I found out that it has smth to do with the encryption but idk.
So that is my problem: I cant install anything. I cant format anything.
Pls if you have any idea on this pls tell me. I already ordered a new phone but it would be nice if this phone didnt become a paperweight...
And thank you if you read till here. Aaaand sry for my bad english

How to read Userdata.bin

hey there.
so here i am, after purchasing a box/dongle of sort , which allowed me to read and backup the partition that i had on the phone i received while not booting.
the phone is an MTK xiaomi redmi note 4 .
i did backup all the partitions before flashing it.
the phone was constant boot looping , was not solved by flashing it (not cn dev firmware or any other firmware) it did not even went to fastboot.
i have heard that after android 5? the userdata.bin were encrypted .
1, im not to sure if the rumors are true.
2, how its possible to decrypt it ?
3, if i flash the same partition to a working phone, would i be able to read the data out of it ? (note that the answer to that question was yes after asking some one, however it seems difficult to understand how, i mean if there is a key to decrypt the partition shouldnt be in the phone itself who encrypt it ?) hope u guys can clarify if its possible to so , or its just BS.
now if the keys are somewhere can i extract them some how and decrypt the partition so i can get the data out ?
i did try to open it with 7z , ftk imager ..
nothing could open this up.
this is how it looks like

alot of the partitions are fill with
Code:
G..Â.ªÕ.E)ÎJØÁõV
Code:
470305C290AAD5154529CE4AD8C1F556
i mean i can clearly see that its encoded and see the partern .
i did try to flash twrp, but that did not work (because fastboot does not comes up.)
anyhow , this is it.
thanks for the help in advanced .
(in short how can i save the data of this phone, cheers)
@doesitburn
I think a convenient way to remove the encryption from your Android phone is
Go to Settings-->Security
Then under "Credential Storages" click on "Clear all credentials"

It was just a hint for everyone how to avoid the mistake you made. :laugh:
It is the whole point of disk encryption to prevent unauthorized booting. A once encrypted disk/img can't get decrypted by external means as you are trying to do now. May be FBI has the appropriate tools ... That's probably also the reason why Google will, as announced in spring 2019, in the end, remove adb backup/restore from Android.
IMHO you have no chance.
what about flashing the backup into a new phone tho ?
will this help me ?
??
@doesitburn
Propably not
