Mobile Data Connection keeps switching off - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried my streak over 3g for the first time today and i found that i had to keep going into settings and ticking 'data enabled' since it kept unticking itself. Just wondered if there was a reason it kept disabling itself ?
Im on the dell stock 351 rom and its rooted.

Try doing this and see if it helps at all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13421156&postcount=17

Sorry just realised this is for at&t so its not going to work for me. Im in the uk on the giffgaff network ...
Also, just to add to my problem i've just noticed if i tick the data enabled option, immediately go back to home and return to the mobile network settings that data enabled is unticked. So literally 10 seconds after enabling its disabled again.

Have you recently factory reset your steal and used an app to restore system settings? from my experience restoring the settings have caused similar issues.
try going to applications - manage applications - all (tab on the top) and try seeing in clearing the data in settings and settings storage will help. Btw this will most likely clear whatever settings you have set

Grey H, full 3G and no internet service!

So as the title says, I'm experiencing times when I have full 3G (I don't live in a HSPA + area) but the H its greyed out. I can make calls and send texts, but can't access any websites. I'm running ginger blur 3.5 but was experiencing this prior to loading it as well. I'm not running any battery saving apps that may be disabling the internet usage. Usually a reboot of the phone will get me service. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!

This might not help you.. I use a widget that can turn on/off mobile data and sometimes it gets a little screwed up. If I go into settings > data > data manager (I believe) and manually turn it off and back on it sometimes fixes my problem. You could try that instead of rebooting sometimes ..not super helpful advice but ya never know.

Any suggestions are helpful!! I'll be sure to try that the next time it happens! Thanks

Did you configure the APN already? Did you try your SIM card on another phone to discard a problem with your line? Is data enabled in data manager?
Check those. That might be the issue
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13838602&postcount=5
works perfectly here, no idea why you have to do it though, obviously you need to make sure your apn settings are correct aswell.

[Q] Market problem over 3g

Hello fello MoPho owners,
I have a problem with downloading in Market over a 3g connection. I can access Market just fine, but when I attempt to download an app I receive an error.......and Market cannot detect a data connection.
Rather than backup and restore my device, I was hoping that I could identify why this has happened? The device has not received any recent updates, as any Market downloads just mysteriously stopped working. However, Market works just fine over wifi to include downloads.
I am rooted on the stock rom gingerbread 2.3.4. The Market version is 3.3.11. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I also get an "invalid package file" error. I downloaded two apps just fine and then I kept getting the problem :confuse: I'm unclocked stock with 1.3 stable kernel.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I ended up resetting the device and it worked fine. I noticed that the Market version upon reset was an older version. I don't think the updated Market was the problem however, as it was working. Nevertheless my device is back up over 3g. Should anyone encounter the same bug, please post your fix and or findings. Thanks, and happy hacking!
I had that issue as well. One thing i could suggest is to find on xda a marketplace.apk older then the one your on and try and REPLACE it under astro
It is under "/" root, then system, then app. Make sure to BACKUP your old version please and set your permissions what i usually do i select all boxes then reboot and try again. Im.just having issues with a few select apps downloading like parallel kingdom but i think its jokers skinny rom. One other thing as well is to make sure under settings and battery and data make sure ita not set to only work over wifi....

i had the same problem when i got my photon and freaked out till a guy in my class showed me that the data saver was enabled.
To disable:
Go to Settings--->
Battery & Data Manager--->
Data Saver--->
and uncheck Data Saver
they put the data saver option on the phone because next year they will no longer offer the unlimited data plan
I had the same problem too on my Motorola DEFY+. This is the solution. Now it works fine. Thank you!

3G re-enables itself on Jellybean

I've tried several Jellybean builds (CheckROM, Wanamlite, Omega) and have the same problem with all of them. Whenever I turn off 3G data it re-enables itself within a few minutes. Has anyone else had this problem with JB?
Most likely it is a problem with some of the installed by you soft wghich tires to connect to network.

What's the best of identifying which app might be causing it??
If your phone is rooted, it is simple: install DroidWall from market
I'm running Omega v31 since Indie released it. No problem so far.. Same when I was on CheckROM before.
Did you do a full wipe before installing the ROMs?

Yes I did a wipe/delete cache/delete Dalvik cache before installing each ROM.
I installed Droidwall and denied 3G access to ALL apps, but still something is switching on my data service within an hour of me disabling it.
???
I never met the app which turned firewall of by itself....
Last resort: install Titanium Backup, and by freezing one by one check which one causes this.
Must it be an app that's trying to access 3G, or is the o/s enabling 3G for some reason??
If you have set software check, it may, but I doubt it.
From system apps - I'd look into news daemon, stock daemon, account sync, weather update and similar.
Surely the question isn't which app is attempting to use 3G, but why it is able to turn 3G on when I've explicitly disabled it? If I turn 3G off should it prevent any app from using it??
Usually no, BUT:
- some apps can have root access;
- some apps can have "strange" permissions, especially if taken from... not 100% trustworthy source.
One more what can help to diagnose: Permissions Denied from Play, can verify app-by-app which one will have permission to access network.
Personally, what I'd do:
- install Titanium Backup;
- backup all apps;
- freeze system apps (Stock Daemon, news daemon, FB, YT, SamsungUNA, push etc)
- look if the situation persists, if not - I'd try to unfreeze sys apps one by one, and then restore my apps.
I'm using Onavo Count to monitor for data usage and it's showing that only "Google Services" and "Google Account Manager" have used any data since the last reboot. Since both of those are pretty central to the Android experience I'm now stumped. I can't disable them, but why/how are they overriding my settings and starting up 3G when I've explicitly chosen to disable it??
Hmmm... by the accident - do you have auto sync left in the settings?

Sync is switched on for Gmail only, but even this shouldn't be able to enable 3G when I've turned off 3G???
Same problem...
I have the same problem, since I updated to jellybean - the mobile data just switches itself back on even though I have manually disabled it.
I have the stock software, sorry, haven't had the guts to flash it yet :angel:
Anybody find an answer?
Thanks in advance

Have you checked in Settings>Data Usage>Mobile Data was unchecked after switch off the mobile data from notification? It could be either that or auto sync that force mobile data to switch on. Try to turn off mobile data and turn on auto sync, then see in an hour if there's any effect.
Because if stock (non-rooted) also have same problem, it should be something in the settings..
Anyway, mine doesn't have any problem like this..
try this
u may try this ....like press *#*#4636#*#* and the goto phone information the select the type of network u want..
btw this works for many of the devices....on any version of android

Mobile Broadcast popup? Can't disable

Hi, I have just flashed to the latest CM10.1 and keep getting an annoying mobile broadcast notification. I found the option in settings and unticked all of the boxes, and it still pops up. I have even factory reset, wipped cache etc. Any advice?
Anyone got a suggestion for this? I have gotten one every 2-10 minutes since last night, and its doing my ruddy head in.... :crying:

I was not aware of this rule, and in my haste to try and identify my problem, neglected to follow forum rules.
I'm also getting 3-4 mobile/cell broadcasts an hour and turning off all the options plus re install does nothing. Might try and go back to nightly dated the 15th and see if that does anything, if I can that is.
same problem with the 15th
Getting the same problem on CM10 nightlies
Me too.. If you leave them in the notification panel the stop popping up.

Loving the CM nightlies but this notification drives me crazy.
Thank you all for your input in advance!

same problem here, flashed nightly 4th June, SGS2 intl. GT-I9100 bombarded with cell broadcast & also the language is unknown..
thinking to go back the last flashed nightly.. suggestions welcome....
Try another Kernel like Temasek, N.E.A.K or yank. Problem will disappear
the boeffla kernel isn't having this problem.

I have had the same issue since switching the CM nightlies a week or so ago. I delete System/App/cellbroadcastreceiver.apk (after copying backup to SD card). This stops the notfications. I dont know if this causes any other issues, but I have not noticed anything else not working as a result. When you flash the next nightly that file will return again..

Thank you for that, I just had the update and was getting these through. I did turn them off in the settings, but still got them. I've done ^^ and it's stopped it. Although, being in the UK, I had to find Mobile Broadcast.
hi guy
unistall it in titanium backup. goodluky !
sorry for my talking english very bad
theres a few things you can try, first go to system settings > more > mobile broadcasts and unsellect all the options, if this does not work for you, you can FREEZE 'mobile broadcasts' with Titanium Backup, I recommend FREEZING rather than uninstalling!! however if you want to remove then use root explorer go to system> apps> mobile broadcasts.apk i do not advise doing this as i am not sure of the outcome! I personally did both of the above methods and i have stopped receiving them...

Are you talking about SYSTEM SETTINGS then under the section WIRELESS & NETWORKS tap MORE / MOBILE BROADCASTS and deselect all.
Yes, you can try this method firstly, test it for a day or two see if they stop if not then freeze it with titanium backup

5.1 update keep disabling mobile data

Hi fokls,
I recently updated to 5.1 ( Lollipop). I am on Tmobile and for some reasons, the mobile data setting kept getting disabled frequently.
Anyone knows what to do to fix the issue. I have tried pure stock as well as with root. None of them seems to fix the issue.

Just want to confirm, I have this problem too. Also on T-Mobile.
Edit: is it really just the setting that gets disabled? I have been rebooting to fix it.

Why don't you enable airplane mode and then disable instead of rebooting. It might work.

I tried that, it didn't work. I'm waiting on it to happen again to see if I can just re-enable mobile data.
Even if I can, this is still a very annoying problem. You'll miss a lot of emails, and messages. Yet another reason you might not want Lollipop

Its strange though. But if you go to the setting, then mobile data, you will see that it is turned off. Turning it back on, will re-enable it. I dont know why it does it though. No need for air plane toggle.
Is there any possibility this problem could be tied to a default power-saving setting that is turning mobile data off to conserve battery?
Just a thought.

I did two things, but I haven't had this happen since I did them.
1. Renamed HwPowerGenieEngine3.apk and HwPowerGenieEngine3.odex to disable them. (just add .bak to the end) They are located in "root/system/app/HwPowerGenieEngine3/" and "/<SAME/ARM/"
2. Enabled the option in Mobile Network settings to "Always-on mobile data"
Like I said, I don't know for sure if either really fixed it, but I haven't been having this problem for the past 2 days.
#1 . do I need root to rename the files?

yes, that requires root
I have no answer for you but, I am on T-Mobile and that's not happening to me. My WiFi becomes disabled sometimes/rarely. Also USB debugging gets disabled as soon as I back out of the settings for it. This is on B309.
My friend and I both using HAM2 on Wind, still on 4.3. Phone signal (not only Data) frequently turned itself off, then turned back on after a minute or longer.
Could it be the AWS (1700) frequency not reacting well to Huawei power genie?
I tried using "Normal" instead of "Smart" power saving scheme but no joy. Just froze "Power Genie" app via Titanium Backup. I think it turns the power saving feature off completely. Will monitor to see if it helps. I'll trade network stability for shorter battery life.
Apparently this problem is getting worse with Lollipop update.
