Tablet / Dock from different regions - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

Hey all
I just got my Transformer tablet in the UK. Considering I'm not from anywhere in the UK, Europe or the US, it was a good opportunity for me.
Next I'm planning on getting the keyboard only. I no longer have such opportunity to visit UK/US/Anywhere else where Asus sells stuff officially. Therefore eBay is my only option, so here's my question: Any idea whether the device might have issues with mixed regions?
English tablet and an American keyboard dock, for instance. Any info on this? Thanks

I have seen a difference between the UK and US keyboards.
The UK keyboard have the two-row enter key and a reduced right side SHIFT key.
The US keyboard has a one-line enter key, longer shift key and a |\ key right above enter.

Thanks for the info on the difference. Anyone got any idea whether such mix wouldn't work for whatever reason?

In theory using a tablet from one region with a dock from another region, shouldn't pose any problems. I'm not basing this on any inside knowledge or an Asus directline link, which only I have access to, but on simple logic.
The dock connection is going to be the same on all Transformers, therefor it shouldn't matter. It would be like connecting different keyboards to any PC ...

RC E100 with Touch HD

Can't get the RC E100 working on the phone. Connecting the remote gives me an error that the phone does not support it. I have tried to install the drivers but that doesnt help me either: you have already the latest drivers.
Anyone?
imo it's not supported, because of the 3.5 jack. I've tried yc-a300 multi adaptor wit no luck either.
i think that i've seen somewhere a reg hack which allows you to use usbExt audio capabilities on htc touch hd.
You would make a lot of people happy if you were able to find this reg hack.
As it stands we are told that no audio is passed to the Ext-USB.

I bought the E100 without realising it wasn't compatable, however, I was poking around in Google and found a reference on a polish version of xda-developers. http://pdaclub.pl. Now, bear in mind that I speak no polish whatsoever, but it seems to be discussing a ROM that has been made which allows the E100 to work with the THD. Here are a couple of very poorly translated excerpts (translated using an online translator), which seem to be talking about using the E100 to control the volume (and hence other controls?):
So, I have noticed (have remarked) that from this a bit requests nazbierało here, whole list beguile that in (to) ) add (be of use for) repair /add ( hope < stuff > sofcie, that in version already 2.1 ) 1. So does anyone speak fluent Polish geek and can create ROMS ? (If there isn't anyone here, I do know a Polish girl who is completely non-technical, but could possibly help with the translation)
Damn it.. wish I read this before ordering the RC E100 in from Amazon in Germany (best price I found).. why the hell do they include a leaflet with the phone advertising these headphones if they are not compatible!!!
Is there no available ROM that can cure this, Dutty etc??!
As for the Polish stuff, my Polish friends are not at all technical either, but I can ask one to translate it too, if anyone will find it helpful...
Does anyone know how we could get a ROM developer interested in this like Dutty? Do we just PM them, or do we need a special invite?
read the manual for the hd (in the wiki)
although the miniusb socket has the extusb pins present, on the inside the extusb pins are not connected
therefore no matter how skilled the hacker, you cant make software to do something that the hardware is not present to deliver
the same with tv out
the extusb port is there purely for bog standard usb functions and charging
if people have a leaflet from an official supplier in their box recommending these headsets/remotes etc, then you have bought them through misleading advertising and you will have some form of recompense through your local trading standards process

Hi JimLin,
I don't know if this applies for shipping to foreign countries but in Germany there is a law that you can send back any online ordered goods within 2 weeks without naming even a reason and you will get a refund. (I don't think this applies if you bought by a private seller)
So the odds are on your side I would say...
Best regards,
Tommi

Where to find the Foto-Hardwar-Button

Hi,
i lost my accu-cover and the silver hardware button to start the foto app on my mozart.
I found the accu-cover on ebay germany but cannot find the silver hardware button.
Shops tell me to send it to HTC for repair, but i dont want to loose my phone for
> 3 weeks just to get that silver thing clipped back in again.
So does anyone know where to get a pice in Germany, or maybe someone here
in the forum from germany bricked his mozart and is willing to sell me the button...
any help will be appreciated
Frank
I'm also looking for HTC parts for this device.
They aren't very common...
if I will find a source I will let you know.
Are you from germany too, what parts are you looking for?
I found the akku-cover very easily and here on ebay germany
you will find the complete cover: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-HTC..._Oberschalen_Designfolien&hash=item19c943ab41
but since i only need this one button its not woth buying it
ah, i found your thread, it was right below mine...
so I see you look for the real button that are soldered to the board, i just need
the silver button that covers these buttons.
i guess these buttons may be standard smd-solderable buttons, i think you should
look at electronic stores that sell transistors, resistors and stuff like that and
find a switch that has the approximate sizes - just as an idea
have you tried searching for it spelled correctly?
"camera hardware button" or "photo hardware button"
thanks for the correct english pronounciation
(i am from germany so english is not my native language).
I did a search with these keywords too but up to now i was not able to
find this silver button

Prime's Wishlist: ASUS please read!

I could not find a consolidated thread with all wishlists... so starting a new one.
Wish-1: wifi dongle
A sleek one. Just like the GPS dongle, that can be locked with the tablet. Should support 5GHz 802.11n.
Must allow for a passthrough 40 pin connector to allow charging even when dongle is connected.
Must be under $40-50 range
Preferably in the same gray and champange gold colors.
Wish-2: nvFlash
Obvious reasons. To be provided for folks with unlocked primes.
Wish-3: Support drivers for external USB wifi dongles
so that the folks with dock can plug something in the USB, to increase wifi range
Wish-4: Diagnostics utility
A utility that keeps log of app/system crashes. Just like how other operating systems have them. The utility should send all crash results to ASUS for diagnosis.
Wish-5: system stability and performance enhancements
- improve i/o performance of internal memory
- fix issues with screen flashing and tearing
- optimal memory and background process management
Wish-6: disclose full pin map for the 40 pin connector
we have TF101, 201, 300, 700 all with same 40 pin connectors. Disclosing pin map, will facilitate third-party hardware manufacturers to create more hardware accessories for ASUS tablets. WIN-WIN for everyone.
Wish-7: Jelly Bean support
Latest and greatest!
Wish-8: 3G USB Dongle support
Obviously, should be baked into the stock ROM, so that no rooting is required.
Wish-9: Kernel 3+
XDA community: please refrain from using this thread for complaints. Only posts your wishlist for ASUS to read. Once every day, I will consolidate all new wishlists and make them available in original post.
Beta testers: Request you to please bring this thread to attention of ASUS folks
ASUS: Please grant wishes!
Edit June 22nd: Added wishes 7 & 8.
Edit June 24th: Added wish 9.
Well, the NVFlash is being worked on according to Gary Key.
I'll take some Jelly Bean 4.1 instead of this 4.0.3 Asus keeps hacking on. Hey it's a wishlist right?

i highly doubt this would happen to
if they do, then people can send ideas to places and have things made cheaper and no body would buy things from asus cause 80% of the stuff there are over priced....
thats just what ithink tho =]
I'd love WiFi USB support, or if a decent dongle is released I'd be very interested in that. Everything else on the list (minus the dock connector details) I imagine would be a given, but I guess you never know.
I really hope that Jelly Bean will be supported.
3G USB dongles support too ! On non-rooted devices.

Apple products have so many accessories... it just adds more value to the product. More bang for the buck. reason why ppl buy apple so much is that in every store you go to is flooded with accessories for apple.
I think ASUS would sell so many more tablets if buyer knew he had so many options. Just my opinion and a wish!
I know this can't be implemented on our Primes, but maybe on the Infinity or even future batches of the Transformer Pad 300...Bluetooth module in the keyboard dock!
This way the keyboard dock could be used wirelessly if need be. Hook Prime to TV or PC monitor and sit back on the couch and type away.

Right... not possible in my opinion as well. I thought about support for bluetooth dongles on the dock, but that would not work once the dock is seperated from the tablet. I don't think there is enough electronics withing the dock itself that will let it communicate with the tablet via bluetooth when seperated.
Kernel 3+ and Android Jelly Bean
Dont know why the wifi wasnt added to the GPS dongle, would have made sense, would be something i use every day.
Support for drivers for USB dongles is just not practical. Every device functions slightly differently. Each needs its own drivers to function. What SHOULD be done is android should have some standard with how it would interact with these devices and the manufacturers of each device could make android drivers for their devices. Asking for asus to make every wifi usb device work just isnt going to happen. Check the aformentioned thread, it will explain how to make your own drivers for your device. Good luck!
Lots of apps are available on the market to check the statuses of apps. I used to use one a while ago that would track damn near everything. Apps crashing is 90% the developers fault (different from the ANRs)
IO errors are caused by bad memory managment and slow system memory, as well as unoptimized code. Asus IS working on it, as we see with the numerous updates. There is only so much that can be done in software as much of the problems are hardware related.
There IS a partial pinout available, we know which pins are for charging, which supply power for USB devices, the USB channels for both 2.0 and 3.0, and there are some propitiatory pins for things like the keyboard dock or gps dongle. For anyone who wants to make their own USB charge dock it wouldnt be that hard to find the information if you just look. (hint i made a thread about it)
Again, any USB devices you plug in will have basic driver support. Anything beyond that ask the manufacturer for an app to instal drivers or compatability with android devices or make your own. Its not up to microsoft to make your usb game controller work on windows, its up to the manufacturer of the game controller to make sure the drivers are available so their device works on windows. Same thing goes for android, dont have ASUS take the blame because some third party hardware isnt compatable, its not their fault.
Finally, considering how little customization Asus put into their updates when JellyBean is available you can bet we will be getting it very soon. Just relax, it will come.
I think its good to have an idea of what you want but its bad to say Asus should have to give us this stuff when its not their responsibility to do so, and much of this stuff is already provided for you if you only looked.

Lots of useful information in the post... (apart from the last sentence.. )
Well, I am an android end-user. I have no clue on how to write a device driver (if it's as easy as you make it seem, howcome all the smarter ppl here cribbing about poor wifi!). I can't even root my tablet!
My wish was that I did not have to learn coding, in order to make this device more usable. And this is entirely reasonable wish. I use my windows laptop with a ton of devices, and i have no clue on how the operating system or the drivers are coded. It just works! why not android?
I believe there should be some standard for wifi USB devices follow... my wish was that ASUS also bakes in support for this standard/protocol with the operating system. (How about just doing it for ASUS wifi dongle!).
I did read the unofficial pinout thread earlier... well it's unofficial, and most pins are still not known. I am only wishing that pinout be made public, so that smart folks like yourself can build hardware that can really make prime more useful.
Finally, please read the original post as a wishlist and not an obligation for ASUS. My intention is to consolidate wishes from everyone on their primes, so if you also have a wish, just mention it, and i will add it to OP. ;-)
beta testers: it seems like we have consolidated all wishlists for prime. Hence request you to bring this thread to ASUS attention.
Many thanks!

[Q] ZTE Open C

I today received the ZTE Open C and I have to say it is a wonderful phone. There is one really irritating thing about it though. It is branded.
Whenever you lock the phone instead of displaying the wallpaper it displays the blue wallpaper of the Firefox, no matter what wallpaper you are using.
So for the people who know Firefox OS well: Is there a way to change this?
what release is running on ZTE Open C?
could you do a short review of the device, and more importantly, where did you get yours so early?
ZTE is sending out the ebay orders starting May 23rd...
not that i am interested in buying one, as i have the 1st Open, and i'll wait for better spec devices like the Alcatel Fire S,
but i guess it would be interesting for one or other here?

I saw the pre-order for it on Ebay on the 3rd of April, so the ship date for me was a lot earlier. It wasn't even linked on Google I just searched for it on Ebay and by chance it was there! Firefox OS 1.3 made by ZTE, and so far it's very good, apart from the problem I have mentioned. I would like to note that there is an app on the phone called "Software Updater" with "Update Device" "Update History" and "Update Frequency" options... I believe this means they are going to keep this updated. I'm using my ZTE Open for testing, and my ZTE Open C for main use (because of the larger screen)
Google ZTE Open C to find the ebay page, all the info is there, I would review it but I've only had it for a day so far
yeah, i would not bet on them supporting this one longer.
as it seems the Open is not supported anymore.
they don't answer questions about this.
Mozilla does not really answer questions about this.
so that is in my book a pretty good sign they wont support it.
lame.
still on MDN as a "developer" device.
how on earth should you "develop" if you can't update the frekking phone because the HAL is missing for newer builds?
thanks a bunch! 80 Euro wasted on a piece of crap phone that isn't worth more than 30USD to begin with.
being "early adopter" sure doesn't pay off here.
you get crappy hardware for a high price.
i pitty all the people who actually bought a geeksphone keon for 150USD (same low hw specs as the Open)
enough rambling, hope to see your review soon?

I'm sorry to dissapoint, but after using it for a few days there isn't enough different to review. There's the Firefox OS 1.3 which we know well, basically no lag at all and everything opens really quickly. The keyboard allows you to type really fast and still be accurate (this could be due to the 4 inch screen). The speaker is a little bit better and is on the front so you don't need to turn the phone around if you're listening to music, there is an update app on the phone which guarentees updates. The update option through the settings has been removed. It comes with a few of what I can only assume are ZTE's wallpapers but none of them have a logo or anything and most are quite good.
My only problem with the phone is that the lock screen never and will never display your wallpaper. It always shows the blue firefox wallpaper even if yours is different. I emailed ZTE and they said the "Firefox System" added it not them which I assume means the official Firefox OS 1.3 carrier build.
I hope this changes, because it's ugly. Other than that the phone is really good.
