The .83 firware updates the dock files from .57. So I am thinking maybe the performance was increased so I shouldn't just use the .57 webtop mod? Has anyone seen where the update files were modified to eliminate the multimedia dock requirement?
I just bought the lapdock via the slickdeals thread before att closed the deal down. Works great with wifi. Is there anyway to bypass the tether requirement to use H+?
Thanks very much!

I am new at this. I got my thunderbolt a month ago and it already has the new firmware. So, was wondering from tomorrow onwards, can this phone be rooted to get free wifi/hotspot (plus the new firmware) or I have to pay $20 per month
as I will be on a road trip for like 15 days and need this to work properly.
any suggestions from gurus here would be great.
If you have the where with all to root it, the Synergy rom has the unlocked hotspot. Do not know about other roms because I am new to the Tbolt. I am coming from an Evo.
Yes all roms have the hotspot feature and you can get them after root. I use the hotspot feature on CM7 and its working great.
Oh so you guys are using the integrated hotspot feature and not the downloadable app from the market?
Since I can't post in the dev forum yet: I still have a TB with the day1 rom/radio/everything, and I refused all the updates so far. Are the instructions in the root thread still applicable to me?

Yep.

you'll need root to get free wireless tethering. If your ROM doesn't have it built in, there's always barnacle...
After seeing the above replies, does anyone know if the Das Bamf 3.0 RC4 has a built in mobile hotspot like mentioned in the synergy rom? Or do we have to use Wireless tether for root users/barnacle?

Wireless tether
sent from my BAMF'n thunderbolt.
Wireless tether works great on my rooted T-Bolt. I had stock rom Froyo until last night, now I have Gingerbread 2.3.4 and wifi tether is working great still. You can even download it from the market as long as you do it via wifi and turn off your radio.
Which version are you using and what settings are you using? Did you set it to a specific device profile?
I tried 2.07 and it connects, but dies after about 2 or 3 minutes.
I tried the 3.1beta and cannot get that to connect at all.
Any assistance you could provide is greatly appreciated.
try Inj3ctTh3ory rom wireless tether is cooked in the rom
Can anyone direct me to a guise to unlock the hotspot feature for the new release? I'm running a stock deodexed rooted 2.08.651.2 and all I really want is the hotspot unlocked. I was running ROMs but a lot of devs change too much or take too many things out. I like my 3vo stock, all i really want is the hotspot. I found a guide but for the og EVO. Anyone know how to hack this one?
i would like this as well. i really need most of the stuff in the roms, i just want my mobile hotspot unlocked. <stock deodexed rooted 2.08.651.2>
leoisright is working on it.
check out the stock rooted thread and stock kernel thread in dev.
not every thread in dev is about custom roms
Got the new updated beta of WiFi Tether, disturb3d1 made me aware it had come out.
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-beta4.apk
This version gave me working 3G/4G tether. For anyone having trouble, pick the Evo3D profile, then put a checkmark for "routing fix".
In my short time testing, I found that 3G was very slow unless I checked "MSS clamping", while 4G might have been slightly snappier with it left off, but I still had very fast speeds whether it was on or off. 3G performance wasn't that great, and I'm on an Airvana at home testing this. Still, working tether, and I'm on the stock rooted 2.3.4
Hello everyone. I just purchased a new transformers prime & keyboard. I have a rooted droid x running miui pics rom. Now the droid x can tether to my notebook. Can tether to my viewsonic gtablet. But won't tether to my transformer running ics. 4.0. Appreciate any help & advice. Thank you
Get the new system update and try again.
appreciate it
Hey thanks. I'm going to have to re-rom my dx. From miui to liquid gb. Because I suspect its the miui ROM. I had two friends one with a rooted dx another with a rooted Samsung & thy both were able to tether that transformer with no problem. As for the update I read about it. Its supposed to be Android adhoc friendly. Thank u. Always appreciate good advice

I don't know if this info helps, but I have a Droid X with unrooted stock Gingerbread on it. I am able to do bluetooth tethering to my Prime with built-in bluetooth functionality, and I am also able to do WiFi tethering with the FoxFi app (without paying a tethering fee).
very intresting
Hello JKVATO. that is very a interesting statement I'm going to look into Bluetooth tethering & that foxfi app. Isn't that funny I'm rooted & ROMed up & can't even tether to a brand new transformer but other people can. Something is wrong with that picture. I like Miui. But if i can't tether my TPRIME. That is not acceptable!
Tether
Hello, at some point I needed to edit some wpasupplicant files to successfully tether. If I can find the post I'll link it.
Well yes I was reading about changing & or editing the wpa supplicant files. & I considered trying it. & still may have to but I'm going to install another rom(liquid gb) & see if that works if you post that file edit information it would be greatly appreciated. I still don't understand how come some people can tether the TPRIME with no problems & others can't the transformer is by far one of the best Android computer devices on the market I hope that development continues to grow for it
So as you all know ICS has been out for our phones for quite a while now. The roms themselves run great and seem to work seamlessly except for two major issues I have noticed thus far.....GPS and lack of wireless tether for root users support. For this thread I wish to talk about the 2nd one. Has anyone ran across an ICS build for our phones that support the wireless tether for root users app? The reason why I want to use that is because it supports the AD-HOC function which allows me to keep my current data plan and not add on an additional tethering plan. I know there are other wireless tether apps out there but not all of them support the AD-HOC function. It seems like all Cyanogen based builds will support this function but very few other ROMS/Builds will actually support this. Just curious if anyone out there has ran across this before and seen an ICS ROM that does support this. I cannot be the only one out there who uses this am I?
For anyone who is not sure of what I am talking about, google android wifi tether.
PS-After I purchased a bluetooth standalone GPS device my GPS works fine. I suggest other Vibrant owners out there do the same. I picked mine up on ebay for a little under 30 bucks. For that 30 bucks I get the peace of mind that I can go anywhere and not worry about getting lost or carrying around a whole GPS device and my phone. The thing sits tucked away under my stereo and my gps locks on fast and accurately.
IDK bro but I use barnicle wifi tethering...try that

There is a tethering option under system settings and wireless, just click More and choose tether..

Yea but does that work via AD-HOC, I would hate to get charged for tethering because I do not have the plan.
So - I complained enough that I got upgraded to this phone from a Verizon Charge (loved that phone, easy to root, and change ROMs).
Here is my question though. On the Charge, once rooted, I could wirelessly tether. I rooted this phone (Razr Maxx) and still am unable to wirelessly tether. Sure, I can use Open Garden like before, and my computer will connect, but no data transfer. Am I missing something?
I was able to get Foxfi working.
You could try this method,

I've been having problems with Foxfi ever since the .181 update. Anyone else having issues?
No issues with Foxfi

Plenty of online gaming (PS3), nook and computer tethering since the .181 update and no issues to speak of. I am stock, unrooted, XT912. My wifes Maxx has not been updated yet though and she tethers a lot as well. If there is a problem there I would be very interested to know prior to her updating although I thought all of the software was the same in the Maxx and the standard RAZR. It doesn't make much sense to me that it would affect one but not the other. Am I wrong to assume that?
