I have Gingerblur 2.0 on my Atrix 4G and love it. However I unwittingly downloaded the 4.1.57 update and now it keeps asking me to install, which I do not want to do. Would someone please tell me how to delete the update from my device and to wipe the record that it was downloaded so the reminder to install will go away. I have Root Explorer installed. Thank you.

Thanks. Will that block only OTA updates related to system updates? Could it have unintended consequences?

Also, even after freezing Upadater 2.2.1 I still have the pending download/install notification listed under the "ongoing" action list in the pull-down info bar. How do I clear the message?

Nevermind about the notification icon. Reboot solved that. duuhhh. :\

I just rooted my phone, and noticed this problem this morning. If I hit the search key, the app drawer will force close. I haven't found anything else that causes this, and the search key works fine any other time. I have frozen a few apps using Ti backup, but only bloatware, and I've already tried defrosting it. I'm on the stock rom, android 2.3.6. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but my googling skills have already failed me on this one
It's a known issue with the last VZW .173 update.
Uninstall the updates for Google Search, and all should be well.
TiBU can remove the market/update link.

I'll try that, thanks a ton
I'm honestly surprised that I couldn't find this answer through searching, but thanks for an honest answer Is there any way I can stop it from updating temporarily so I don't have this issue again unless they release a fix?

Ah, I'm sorry, I didn't know what that actually did. Ok, thanks
EDIT: Also, it did fix the problem entirely
Does anyone know how I can disable the system update notifications? I recently received the notification for the latest update, but don't want to lose root. My tablet has a checkbox and I just uncheck, but can't seem to find one on the S3.
Bumping this in hopes that someone figured it out.
What network for clarification?

Sprint. There doesn't seem to be a setting to disable the system updates like there was on my old Evo.
I'd like to know too.
Which app controls the update notification, so I can freeze it?
Or can one modify build.prop and change the room build version to stop getting system update notification?
I've been able to "resolve" the notification issue by flashing the latest update of the rom you're using, but I really don't like having to do it so often just to avoid the update notification. It would be nice to get it turned off somehow--bump.
Assuming you're rooted, go into TiBu and filter for AT&T Software update (or insert the carrier you're on), then click the filter funnel.
The app to freeze will be right there for you to see, and....well, freeze.
I'm on AT&T so in my case the app is called: "AT&T Software update V3_1205_2_2"

I used Titanium Backup (TB) for this. Basically you are gonna wanna freeze the update app using TB. It is called "Software update v3_1205_1_3"
Or at least that is what they are called on my phone and ROM. They might have slightly different name on your device depending on the carrier, device variant, and ROM.
Hope this helps!
Great! Thanks for the suggestion.. Sprint's seems to be just "update", I've freezes it so hopefully that worked.
A few months back, when this particular phone was rooted, I ran a script to stop OTAs. Can someone refresh my mind and tell me how to undo it for Sprint 990 via terminal, hopefully without root
There is a video on YouTube about it
http://youtu.be/bUGOKsyb0I8
Looking for terminal commands where root might not be needed.
So I followed the advice here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...tes-update-t2909412/post58990876#post58990876
a while back to block OTAs. I may, however, have inadvertently reenabled OTAs when I upgrade to Barrin v3. So yesterday the OTA was downloaded to my LS990. I copied the file to my external SD, and deleted it from the cache folder. But now I can't get rid of the notification telling me the system update downloaded.
Any thoughts?

Doesn't that same thread work? It should.
Duh. Tired brain. I was thinking of that as preventing the update, not removing the notification after. I'll give it a try.
Thanks.

Well, sort of. That thread's answer to eliminating the notification is to disable notifications for Play Services. Which eliminates ALL notifications from Play Services, which isn't really a very good idea in my mind.
I tried turning notifications off, then back on, but the darn thing came back. So I turned it off for a couple of hours, then cleared cache for Play Services, and turned notifications back on. I don't know if it was clearing cache, or leaving notifications off longer, or the combination, but the notification seems to be gone now.

It's because of the "Background task cleaner" that got introduced with latest update. Just find it in Settings and whitelist whatsapp and you're good to go.
That was it... thank you for the tip!

whatsapp and background task cleaner
Had same problem with WhatsApp, but whitelisting it in background task cleaner seems to have worked for me. Thanks for advice!
Hoping it will fix Waze problem too - Waze started to navigate erratically with random errors, so I've whitelisted that.

Many thanks

You can find it from Settings / Background task cleaner. Select all apps you want to whitelist or disable whole task cleaner.

how to block ota pixel 6 andoid 12 system update rooting with magisk?thank you
Developer Options>Automatic System Updates=Disable
But if you're rooted it shouldn't update anyway.

This does not prevent update notifications, and root does not prevent OTA updates. Now that Magisk has fixed the vbmeta/data wipe issue, blocking OTAs is no longer critical.
I'm not totally sure at what point the device typically auto updates anyway.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about update notifications, but actual updates which I believe is what the person was talking about. On all my Nexus' and Pixels (6 phones total and all rooted) I've never had a phone try to update with that setting disabled. In fact, that is what that setting is for, to stop your phone from automatically updating via OTA.
And usually if you are rooted an automatic update will fail.
Also, John removed the option in Magisk to be able to take OTAs while rooted in Sept. 2020 because it was bootlooping Pixels. Sideloading, of course, is a different story.

So how do I prevent those?
On my OP7 I simply froze the system updater in Titanium Backup, but on the Pixel I can't find anything like that. So how can we prevent the notifications, or do we simply not get them anyway if we're rooted?

Long press the notification, click the cog in the top right and then toggle off whatever notification section flashes up a few times.

No idea on the Pixel now but on the OP7 that didn't work since it was one of those "system, can't be disabled" notifications. That's why I froze it in TiBu

I did it on A11 on my Pixel 3a XL and brothers Pixel 4, so should work on A12 on the 6
Go and freeze system updates. And swipe the message but I think it should go with freezing updates. Use 3c toolbox or a root app manager
This method *should* work.
I just did it so I will edit this post in a few days.
Though I am on Pixel 5 and A11, should be the same methodology.
The above seems to be working. Haven't gotten anymore of the notifications.
