[Question] How To Fix Wi-Fi Drop Issue? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Wi-Fi connection on my Motorola Atrix 4G drops alot.
How do I fix this Wi-Fi drop issue? I'm rooted running the latest 1.8.3 over the air update.

Maybe you have already done it, but make sure you have
Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & networks -> WiFi settings -> (menu key) -> Advanced -> WiFi sleep policy to 'never'.
Unfortunately Android will still make sure to lower the bandwidth as soon as your display turns off and I haven't heard of a fix for that.

Wifi switching itself off

HI all i have a G2 Touch unlocked running Modaco's latest rom and i cannot get the wifi to stay on longer than about 5 seconds. It does search and find networks and i have managed to put in the key for my orange box but in settings/wireless controls/wifi the box stays ticked and underneath the words WIFI it says disconnected. Ive gone to advanced and told it to never switch from wifi and this is remembered but as i said it lasts all of 5 seconds then disconnects and i have only once seen the wifi icon in the task bar once for 5 secs then it went !! Any advice would be much appreciated thanks.
Maybe the signal's too weak and it looses connection?
No it doenst actually ever connect, the wifi program on the phone cuts out way before it ever finds a connection.
Just making sure you've done this:
Go to Settings -> Wireless Settings -> Wi-Fi settings -> Add WiFi network. Then enter the SSID and necessary security information. After all that turn WI-FI on
Thats what i do still just cuts off after maybe 5 secs !! I give up looks like i have a Hero that doesnt like wifi
Hmm, it seems that I had a similar issue, but I had enabled the Y5-Battery Saver and it continuously switched off my WIFI when I was in place where I had not been connected before. Just wondering if you have enabled the same app...

No i havent, but thanks for the suggestion

[Q] Request Phone Setting for GPS First Fix without Wifi or 3G Data enable.

Hi, is there anyone have SGS2's GPS works at outdoor when 3G are disabled? Can I have your phone setting if it ever works?
I am simulating then the phone to be a transitional GPS device (e.g. Garmin) which have no Wifi or 3G assistance.
I observed below in my SGS2:
1. Without 3G data, I walking around on the road, First GPS fix NEVER happen (20 minutes and above...) even at outdoor without buildings, trees and clouds around me.
2. With 3G data network enabled, my GPS fix time is 13 seconds. (pretty good )
3. After 3G helping for first GPS fix, if my location not too far during first GPS fix, My SGS2 can fix to the Satelit. (because of caching? )
There are 5~8 Satelits detected by "GPS status 3.7 free version". It keep refreshing and GPS would not fix without 3G data network enabled.
Below are my phone setting during the test:
1. Under "Wireless and network"
-> "Mobile networks" -> "Use packet data" -> UNCHECKED
-> "Mobile networks" -> "Network mode" -> "GSM only"
-> "Wi-Fi settings" -> "Wi-Fi" -> UNCHECKED
2. Under "Accounts and sync"
-> "Background data" -> UNCHECKED
3. "Location and security"
-> "Use wireless networks" -> CHECKED
-> "Use GPS satelites" -> CHECKED
-> "Use sensor aiding" -> CHECKED
Below are my "GPS status version 3.7" setting during the test:
1. Under "GPS & Sensors"
-> "GPS required" -> CHECKED
-> "Sensor filtering" -> NO FILTERING
You need no settings for Pure GPS on SGS2 it just works .
No AGPS wiFI or Network only means first cold boot sats take longer to lock on .
Test i returned GPS only no sim no wifi 4 mins cold boot 8 sats locked on initial accuracy 10m .

A GPS fix with a completely "clean" GPS-receiver without cached calendar takes 12-30 minutes.
It takes 12.5 minutes just to download the calendar, then there are other things happening as well.
Hera are some information how it works.
http://gpsinformation.net/main/gpslock.htm
http://gpsinformation.net/main/slowlock.htm
So please test for at least 30 minutes with decent GPS-coverage the first time you test the GPS before you consider it faulty if you don't use A-GPS (wireless networks).
I would also like to know is anyone found a solution for this (i.e. GPS lock time without 3G data).
I have the HTC Flyer wifi model that has no 3G data and when i use it outside i get instant locks so i don't know why the SGS2 take forever to get a lock with 3G is disabled.
Can I ask a question about GPS fix?
The external bluetooth GPS (SiRF StarIII chip) receiver can get the first fix in 5 seconds without any network support.
Why internal GPS can't do like external one?

Are you using Wifi during syncing? If so, Wifi may get disconnected when the screen is switched off. Go o Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Wifi settings -> Advanced -> Wifi sleep policy -> and set it to 'Never'.

Any way to turn off screen WITHOUT lose Wifi or 3G-USB connectivity ?

Hi my friends,
Im using a dropad a8x as my Cardroid, and i want to access it by wifi or 3G while the car is parked.
The problem is, if the screen goes off i lose all my connectivity, this includes both 3G and Wifi.
Is there a way to shutdown the screen but NOT lose the connections ?
Thanks for the help.
I didn't want to leave with replying,
Go to wifi/setting policy and change it to never. (Go to wifi settings and press menu and you will get the options)
Sorry, I can't be more clearly than this, no time for explaining.
eventual you have to activate "best wlan performance" (anything like this) in the same menu.
Well, thats already set
But when i push the button to turn off the screen it loose both 3G and Wifi connection.

[Q] LTE won't turn on - how do I diagnose the problem?

I've been using CM 10.1.3 for some time without any problems. Over the past few days I've noticed that the LTE connection hasn't been active at all, and I can't manually turn it on. 3G still works, but no 4G/LTE. How do I troubleshoot to determine if the problem is hardware or software?

If you go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode, what do you have selected? I've had problems w/ the wrong mode being selected following CM nightly updates.
I currently have DCMA + LTE/EvDo selected and LTE is working great for me. I believe I've had Global selected in the past and it also worked.

Mine was set to "Global." I've never changed that setting, so I'm not sure what happened, but when I used the CDMA+LTE/EVDO like you said, it turned right on and appears to be working perfectly. Thanks a bunch!
