I have tried running the new 1.83 update that came over the air.
It downloaded just fine, then took me to a screen and a progress started.
After the progress bar made it about 1/3 the way across the screen, it stopped, the bar disappeared, and the icon changed to a ! in a triangle over an android.
I'm currently using Gingerblur overtop 1.57. I live in China, and most of the links to anything useful to download, are dead.
I would like to update my phone, but I think I might need to get it back to completely stock. Is there any way to do that?
This is more than frustrating, to say the least. Clicking on more and more "this site can not be found" links has not been helping either.
Thanks for any help, in advance.

Edit.
Found this in the general forums.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061292
it's about updating with a motorola updater. I'm downloading it now.
Another post mentioned stuff about the official updater saying it failed to update, but then showing it had updated, or something to that effect.
I've yet to finish the initial software download, so I'm not sure how it'll go.
Anyone else with the same problem, now you have a link to try out.

Read the damn forums. All this has been covered several times. You can't update to 4.1.83 over GingerBlur!

I will start at post one, and work my way all the way through the forum.
You're smart.
you have to sbf back to stock with rsd lite.
then update
then root with gingerbreak
then gingerblur
I had the same issue too except I was on 1.5.7 and had greyblurr. When I did a fresh flash back to 1.2.6 to go to 1.5.7 and tried to do the update it was finally successfull. Give that a try and it should work!

Q: What kind of responses should I expect when I blindly post questions in the development forum as though I am more important or special?

Im still kinda new at changing things with root access. i was looking at the forum under Tips and Tricks. there is a way to get the wireless tether from the original galaxy s. if i do this mod will i be able to get the ota update to froyo when it comes out. thank you in advance for your help.
there is a thread in either dev or themes/apps called mobile AP which is what you're talking about. I would suggest looking there.
make sure you know what you're doing before you flash anything though. I would look at the sticky thread in the general section which explains how to to do basically everything.

nothing in the post talks about wether or not you will get the froyo update if you do this mod.
im pretty sure you will still get it. if not, you will most likely know when it comes out as everyone will be going nuts. you can then revert to stock or nandroid.
remember always do a nandroid before flashing anything. that way you can go back if anything bad happens.
thank you again. i have done my nandroid and i am going to give it a try
On December15 the official froyo is getting released through OTA. If I update my phone which is rooted and has oclf lag fix will it soft brick and is there a way to update without getting soft bricked? How?
Don't comment saying install a froyo ROM I don'tlike roms and I will not use them at least not now.

Research shows the update folder for root seems to be the culprit for ota brick. I suggest unroot your phone and install the ota. I've done it twice with no issues so far.

Ouch... There are plenty of people here who run stock roms. I would assume he rooted for benefits like tethering, metamorph and many others like the lagfix. IMO It was a viable question worth answering.
OTA is fine for rooted phones. The lag fix probably will be an issue.
I always wait for a developer to take the ota, enable root and make it a flashable zip.much better than ota in my opinion.
Not sure how you think you know the release date... You need to qualify that.

I was on .8 and wifi worked perfectly.
Just upgraded to 1.1 then did the patch and then the delete rotate toggle.
Now I can't connect to my home wifi network. It goes through everything like its going to connect then says disabled and remembered.
I can connect from all my laptops and my droid x with no issues. Just can't with this phone after the update.
I wiped and cleared cache. Then factory reset to get it from doing the boot screen loop.

No need to be some brutal. In the time it took you to type that useless post, you could've just simply answered him, and moved on in life.
Anyways, like ash said, you have to be on 2.3.4 before flashing the newest eclipse. I SBF'd to 2.3.4 first, then used Pete's One Click root and the bootstrap recovery app.

Droid 3 one click = petes one click root method for ALL moto devices running gingerbread.
BUT apparently it wont work for bionic on 2.3.4
other than that exception it works just fine for all others on 2.3.x
But now moto users have a way to MAINTAIN ROOT across updates without having to use any exploit program.
Just be stock rooted make the mods and update. Check dev forum for thread to maintain toot across updates.

Or I could have reported his post to a mod, had him issued a warning for obviously not reading and searching. I got him his answer while teaching him to look for himself. It worked. Furthermore in the future I am willing to bet he will read and search before posting. Noob here,
I've looked and looked and haven't seen anything definitive. I have a Samsung GS II (I-777). Someone had rooted my phone for me a while back but now I want to un-root it. I only have access to Mac and have NO idea how to. Everything on here seems to be written in a different language lol. What's the easiest and most simplest way to do this? Sorry if this is repetitive. Thanks in advance!
Rooting is such an easy proccess. Looking at you, I would not recommend it doing by yourself. Rooting will not get you on any legal issue other than warranty cancelation. If you still insist look at the stickied threads in this forum. I myself would like to explain it, but I can't explain it better.

My question is why do you want to reverse a good thing?

Well, "looking at you" made me go Whaaaat??? myself. Odd snap judgement from reading one post, which was pretty well phrased from what I saw.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434020 which should help - and this thread says it should work with MacOS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432. You'll need to do some more searching and learning (start with the sticky at the top of the general forum). If you don't feel confident doing this, then don't. You really aren't going to gain anything by it unless you have a specific need. Or expand on what you're looking for and maybe we can help.
BTW if you don't use it, the difference between root and unrooted is zero AFAIK. Root just lets you do more, but it's still stock i777 if that's all "someone" did.
Well, the thing is, the root that this person did (not me lol) has disabled my wifi. It's the ZedomaxStockKernel. I did some research on this and it seems that using this method renders the wifi useless. I clearly don't know what I'm doing but will read more in regards to this. Again, I've had the phone rooted for about a month now and I haven't done anything different. (Maybe because I don't know how) I wouldn't mind leaving it rooted but if I could fix the wifi issue, that would be great and then maybe I can learn further about this whole root thing. Reading through the forums though, most people rooting have Windows and not Macos. Which kind of leaves me feeling alone lol

Go into the siyah thread (you can do it on your phone). Download the ATT tar file. Open up mobile odin, select kernel. It will open a window to find your kernel. If you download from the xda app it will be in tapatalk_downloads I think. Select siyah_2.1.13 (or whatever it is). Go down to the bottom where it says flash firmware, hit it. If done correctly, the phone will reboot and everything will be awesome
I'll keep an eye on this thread tonight in case you have further questions.
Forgot to mention, the siyah thread is here in the i777 forum, more specifically look in the development section. The download link is in the first post.

1. Should I download the .tar file directly to my phone? Would that be easiest?
2. I can't seem to find the thread in the development section, care to spoon feed me?
Lastly, when I googled Siyah it gave my a website but I don't know if that's reliable or not.
Thanks!!

Yeah I got crazy frustrated with this one. Here goes. So I booted into odin, which needed the kies driver is memory serves. Ran the Root66 in PDA. Then I rebooted my phone, went into the usb debugging and MTP for usb. Updated my phone, to VRALL4 like the normal OTA updates from VW. ran CASUAL-BackAtchaVerizon-Revision311b with java (build 1.7.0_17-b02). The damn thing went through. Not trying to run sboot.bin through odin. As far as the guides go, you need to click the generic serial to be replaced in casual. Also some guides didnt show what state the phone was in for casual. Just boot up the phone like normal. I'm trying to figure out what other snags i ran into...
