Few Questions! - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. How can I import my bookmarks / passwords from Firefox (or Chrome) into Opera Mobile (not mini)? I couldn't find any decent and recent info in Google about this. Actually, I don't see any import option in Opera, but hoping someone knows a trick and workaround for this.
2. Titanium Backup / My Backup [root version]
Titanium Backup Pro won't accept any payment method from me, anyone else have this problem? Is it because its Chinese currency? I tried Visa, MC, AMEX. No Google Checkout or Paypal option.
My Backup Root: Is it me, or it doesn't save actual passwords / logins for apps such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc? Does Titanium save them? If not, what file(s) would I save / replace after I upgrade to a new ROM to restore them?
3. Anyone know how to truly save battery life? The only things I know so far are these steps:
Disable bluetoothe, wifi. Installed Juice Defender (balance mode). Re-calibrated battery use Battery Calibrator app after fully discharging, fully charging. I also have voltage control installed via Evil Fascinate ROM and OTB kernel.
I have no idea how to properly set up VC, I tried various methods from the OTB / EF threads but phone seems to always crash. At one point I did score 1592 Quadrant. Is this good? Can someone suggest good VC settings for performance AND battery saving (if that mix is possible)?
I think I had more questions, but right now 3 will do.
Thank you for those who help!

Really? No one?

Do you have the free Titanium Backup installed on your phone? The Pro version just unlocks more features. Maybe you've gotten that far and that isn't your problem, but that's my only help on that topic.

I did make it clear that I have Titanium backup installed.

can anyone help my phone is not showing up in QPST.

To answer your first question a little more clearly. The only advantage so far is that it would keep us up to par with others using CWR. We are far behind in our scripting style vs. other phones that use it.
For number 2. I think it highly depends on if you are saving apps vs apps and system data. I have seen it not save some passwords for random applications but if I run system data as well (which I hear is hit or miss) it will save the passwords.
You can also backup kernels with CWM 3.x
so i'm guessing usernames and password you have to restore system + data right?
I restored all my apps + data... but yet none of my games saved. any idea why? I run a backup every night at 3am for all new apps & newer versions... am I doing this wrong?
To be accurate you are the user and I assume you are talking about your contacts.
A little more info would be helpful. Are you contacts stored on your phone or google, or are they linked?
Do you use VZW Backup assistant?
Where are you not seeing them?
What steps did you use to back them up in TiBu.
TiBU has a good WiKi. Not trying to me a dik, there is a lot of good info there. A google search will bring it right up.
I keep my contacts in google so backing up is a non-issue.

Saved game states are not part of the newer versions. Before wiping I choose menu/batch/Forced redo of your backups. And that will update your new saved game states.
good day.
Damn. Thanks for the info chopper...lol. I had almost beat angry birds holiday grr. but why forced redo? Shouldn't just backup all apps do the TRICK?

[Q] Contacts, WIFI, titanium backup, and other questions...

Running CM 6.1.3 v006.
First off, titanium backup is a REALLY REALLY misleading tool. Uninstall means "fugeddaboutit", I had to restore my whole ROM because you can't restore stuff you uninstall, which makes the whole point of a backup moot....
1) So, all this fun later, everything is working great, except I cannot ADD contacts...well, I kind of can, they just don't show up in my phonebook. It says "contact added", their name is next to the number, but they don't show up in the phonebook like they used to. I unfroze all the apps I had frozen and it works fine now...so I'm just trying to pinpoint which app it was that caused the problem.
IT was NOT infiniteview or SMS, but maybe someone else has had this and can help so I don't have to try 1 by 1?
2) How can I tell if I have the CM 6.1.3 v006 hotfix? I had a stock v006 rom, backuped in xRecovery, installed the hotfix, screwed up my system with titanium backup, then restored the stock 6.1.3 ROM. Then, I installed the hotfix again, and after a few reboots installed it again (don't ask). Have I screwed anything up? How can I check that I have all the hotfix files and no duplicates clogging up my system?
3) Sometimes, on some WIFI connections, my WIFI disconnects after a random period of time. Is this some feature that is putting my phone into deep sleep or something? It happens randomly only on some WIFI connections...
4) Can I freeze and uninstall spare parts without any worry? It doesn't seem to do anything for me, but is that the only thing governing the CPU? I like the underclock it provides, but does stock CM 6.1.3 v006 provide it even if I turn off spare parts?
Lastly, a fun little issue. I have a picture that is panoramic...but I can't seem to make it my wallpaper because it only scrolls 10% or so per home screen, not 100%. Is there a way to change this?
THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS!!! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
TB works just fine and isn't misleading at all. If you want to restore something after you uninstall you first need to BACK IT UP, hence the name Titanium Backup and not "Magic Restorer of all Apps you Deleted!".
Spare parts is just a settings menu and has nothing to do with your CPU scaling/voltage.
If you installed the hotfix then you have it. All your issues are your own fault and if you would simply read the instructions and actually follow them step by step you wouldn't be having any troubles.

Actually, not. It's well known that you should freeze apps instead of uninstalling them...because there is no way to re-install them. I have backed up everything and it did not want to restore after an uninstall. Try it!

I did follow everything step-by-step, but when it comes to things like performing a restore, it helps to know if I need to clear cache again, etc.
Regarding the contact and wifi problems...yes they are my fault, perhaps, but that doesn't mean that someone else can't help me solve them instead of acting like a ****. I've searched a lot for the contact problem I have and have found nothing, but someone who had the same problem before me can easily say "hey, this is the issue, just unfreeze _____".
Follow-up:
I had some free time so I tried apps 1-by-1 and the culprit was "contact sync", the google app. With it frozen I could not add contacts, but unfrozen was perfectly fine!
My advice: do not freeze/remove it.
You can also add contact on google website if you are synching

Two Questions... Phone book & App Backup

I I was wondering if there are any programs where I could do GREAT backups.
Mainly 1 for phonebook, so that I can safely copy all my contacts and modify them from the computer. I have like 300 numbers but want to erase 200 of them while still having them on computer if I need them. I can't find a reliable app to do this so am wondering if anyone has any experiences in it.
The 2nd backup I'm looking for is an APP one. It doesn't hve to necessarily backup the apps, but at least be able to queue all of them I want RE-installed and download them all from the google play store or something. I want to get into flashing ROMS, but I have like 7 pages of apps already that I don't want to lose, as I'm still sorting through trying to find the ones that work best for me so I can remove all the extras.
First off, I think these could've been answered by searching, so please do that in the future.
If your contacts are stored as Google contacts (as they should be), you can edit them from GMail. On the top left corner of the page, there is a menu that says "GMail." Click it and select "Contacts." I've found this to be the easiest way. It'll also always backup your contacts, and you can restore old versions of your contact list if you need to do so. (Since you talk about wanting to delete them from the phone, but keep a record of them, if you delete them from GMail and remember the date when you had them all in there, you can always restore it back to that date and they'll all be back.)
Also, from the People app, you can go to Menu -> Manage Contacts, and export the data.
Regarding backing up apps, this is the main reason I don't think you've done any research at all. There's a very-well-talked-about app called Titanium Backup that will backup and restore every app on your phone. You have to buy the key for it to restore all of them without your involvement--the free version requires you to give permissions to install each app.
First off, I did search prior to asking the question and could not find what I was looking for. There is no need to be rude, as searching was obviously the first step anyone would or at least SHOULD take before asking such a question.
As for your replies, I have chosen sync in my contacts, but they will not show up in Google for some reason. I've tried tons of ways, and it shows like it is syncing, but when I check... nothing there. I don't know if something is wrong in my settings or what, but I've tried many times... it just won't work for me for some reason. Maybe it's because I have 6 google accounts attached to phone, and even though I'm only syncing 1, it is mixing them up or something.
And I already have Titanium Backup, it keeps crashing on my phone for some reason, which is why I was looking for an alternative. I have over 300 apps on my phone right now. I know that's horrid, but I downloaded a ton of them for the same things so I can test them and find the ones I liked best, in which I plan to mark them all, re-flash the phone with whatever ROM (later once full rooting with S-off and everything has been tested more thoroughly), and only install those apps I liked, which should bring it down to maybe 100 apps or so.
I do understand I might SEEM like I didn't search, but trust me... I did.
Anyways, I thank you for your response (both the neg and the pos), and your time was greatly appreciated. I am about to toy with my settings and see if something is blocking the sync or something. I didn't know you could export from the people app though, so thanks for that especially.
UPDATE:
Man, thanks! That export feature is NICE! going to see how easy it is to modify it shortly, hopefully it's readable in Excel.
Regarding Titanium Backup, you are rooted and have granted Titanium Backup superuser permissions, correct?
Yes, I used that 1 click .bat file (from the first method that was shown). I think my superuser app was corrupt, so I re-downloaded it and it's working fine now. Thank you.

I ran into an issue with TB when I tried restoring from my OG EVO. I am rooted in the EVOLTE but not running a custom ROM. the ROM I was running was deodexed. Stock EVOLTE is not so I was unsuccessful in my restore. I bought mybackup pro and WA able to restore SMS and .MMS this way. Not sure I'd you are having the same issues or not though

I agree, all contacts should be on google...then theres no worry about backups (ive had 3 android phones and a tablet and they all auto sync the contacts instantly).
Editing them on the computer is a breeze, the duplicate find/merge feature is simple and works very well.
What exactly are you all doing to make them sync though?
I went to Accounts & Sync
> selected the one GMAIL that I want the numbers synced to and hit sync now, but it doesn't do anything.

fk, I just spent past 5 hours to restore backup to S5

pardon me, but i'm pissed. I started fiddling with this thing yesterday with no luck now i've just spent the past 5 hours with this crap...i upgraded from the s3 and have no fkn idea why they've made some features so fkn difficult....excuse my language.
here's my problem, before changing phones i used mybackup to backup sms, mms, call logs, contacts and apps. Well after searching i see the reware directory needs to be put in the legacy/emulated folder....i did that but mybackup still can't see it. No problem, i'll do everything with good old Kies...but i can't find kies on the S5, market or samsung store. i've tried every fkn thing...i plugged in my old phone and downloaded easy back up and some other crap that's for rooted phones only. i can't find the easybackup directory. i downloaded some wifi transfer apps and the free ones have transfer limits...
can someone please help me before i throw this fkn phone and break it? thanks and btw my s5 and s3 aren't rooted.

First a question: Are you afraid of rooting/tripping knox?
Answers: 1) Root will help with this. Get titanium backup PRO, but it requires root. I have been using it for I don't know how long.
2) Root will help with this. The S3 can be rooted and then returned to stock for your backing up needs. Once you root the S5 for your restoring needs, knox flag will trip and stay with you.
3) Calm down! Read the above answers again and think about it. He He good luck
I use My Backup Pro and if I'm not mistaken only the pro version will restore from one phone to a different phone. I'd also suggest using the cloud option. I backed up my S4 and restored to my S5 in minutes using the cloud and did not attempt it on a memory chip. It's also possible that KitKat security changes might make reading the data from the chip a problem. I am also not rooted yet.

Good idea to try the cloud, I never tried that.
KitKat only messed up the WRITE to SD card permissions, there's an app that restores it though on the play store. READING from the SD card to restore your backups and other things is not a problem even without the fix.

Super Backup from the play store is great for backing up and restoring all your messages, contacts, and call log. It saves them as tiny XML files, and even gives you the option to e-mail it to yourself. Then you can restore it just as easily in the app on the new phone. You can browse for the file, so you don't have to worry about where it's saved. Just e-mail it to your gmail and download it right back on the new phone.
I used this method for myself (I have the stupid AT&T variant that is going back soon, no root, no hope, no nothing) and friends and family with no root.
As for the apps, I just let Play Store reinstall it it whether it's after a full wipe and install of a ROM or moving to a new phone.. But if you have certain apps that can't be obtained from Play Store, and since you obviously don't have Titanium Backup having no root, Super Backup can also backup the apps, then browse to the backup folder for the APK files it saves and move it over manually. Use a file explorer to open the apk and install.

thanks for the advice, but i'm not rooting right now. this is my 7th Android phone, i rooted the first 5, but i didn't root the s3 and have no plans of rooting this unless there's some incredible features that i really desire. i use to root back in the day to get the features that now come stock. Most of the things i dreamed of having on my phone now come stock, so i now don't see much need to root. Besides i have nightmares about the last 2 devices i rooted....gps no longer worked, phones started rebooting by themselves more often (every android i had did that but after rooting it seemed to happen more often)....i got tired of doing camera fixes, gps fixes, bluetooth not working.......i don't know, maybe the game has changed in 2014 and roms are more stable. I was deep into that starting with my g1, then my Nexus (the very first Nexus, i paid like $500 for it). I respect the developers and those who root their devices, i just don't see much personal need for it with these megaphones on the market in 2014.
What would rooting my S5 this early give me? Its currently fast enough, smooth, i love the camera, everything works like a charm(gps, bluetooth, etc...), my battery is CURRENTLY lasting all day with heavy use (i'm no fool, i know that wont last forever, especially coming from the another samsung phone). With all the widgets and things i have, i don't have a desire to root, maybe months from now, i'll get bored with the phone and see some good features....but rooting now.....you care to share your favorite features that a rooted S5 is currently bringing?
thx

do you know the name of the app that restores it? also, Strychtnine, i have mybackuppro, but saved the backup to sdcard...i no longer have another phone so i can't backup mybackuppro online. i used easy backup and saved to google drive, thankfully I was able to restore my sms, mms and call logs....unfortunately many of my contacts didnt restore, i never had that issue with mybackup, its always been my preferred and most trusted backup app dating back to the G1.
A couple other questions while I have a few of you in this thread.
Where is Kies? is it no longer available....i used it heavily with the S3, i don't see it on the s5, playstore, or samsung store. Is there another free app that will allow me to view files on my computer and make changes like Kies? Wifi Transfer is cool but it has a very small transfer limit (i think it was like 10mb or something). I'm not into Google Drive, i use it for hosting music but its a pain to me....first 100mb takes around an hr to upload, then i have to download it on my phone, which takes another few minutes. I honestly prefer the good ole days of plugging the usb to the computer and boom! By the way, has that feature returned with the s5? i plugged usb to computer but it says can't find software. I searched online for s5 drivers and can't find a thing. Any suggestions? i took several pics that i want to send to computer, i don't feel like using google drive, with gmail, i'd have to attach all the files then download them.....i wish i could just connect phone to computer (usb or wireless) and copy/paste files. thanks

I feel what your saying about the past devices and the problems that Custom Roms can create. Root however is different. I use root to run apps that require root i.e., Titanium backup, Greenify, GSAM battery, etc...
Kitkat 4.4.2 and probably Android going forward is some what weird if you think about it. It brought great features like being able to turn off apps (bloat) that you don't use in manage apps, and allows moving apps to the sd card...But on the same note they crippled the SD card write permissions for what reason? Oxymoron? So again here you need root to be able to edit the permissions file or use that SDfix https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix from the playstore. Note the first thing In the description is ROOT REQUIRED.
I also like Xposed and modules which allows me to customize certain things without needing a custom rom. Note that Xposed is causing some people problems with lag, S health, and Private mode not working.
I have two S5's both with root. On one S health works but Private mode doesn't. NO noticed lag.
The other one however, has extreme lag and freezing, and both S health and Private modes broken don't know why the difference. I don't use S health nor Private mode so no problem there but the lag was terrible so had to uninstall Xposed on the second one. Root alone doesn't break anything.

I just plugged it in and windows 7 installed the drivers right away...Maybe once you install Kies above it will install the drivers for you... The S5 actually come with USB 3.0. If you have USB 3.0 on your computer the transfer speeds will be insanely faster than previous phones. Why use Kies just use windows explorer for transfers, Kies just becomes a middle man!

Advice on backing up and restoring my Samsung Galaxy S6

Hey everyone!
My Samsung Galaxy S6 is about 6 months old roughly and the battery life has never really been all that great on it anyway, but lately I'm having some much more serious issues with it depleting really quickly, and dropping to 98% as soon as I take it off the charger. Anyway, my query was regarding backing up my phone and the best way to go about it. I came from an iPhone so I've never really had to back up an Android phone before, this is all new to me. I've googled and such but I figured it might be better to ask as I find a lot of the threads about it and posts in general online are quite old and maybe outdated now.
I want to be able to back up app data, contacts, messages, bookmarks (if thats a thing), login data, and so forth. I know photos and any files can be transferred to my macbook so I'm not too worried about that.
I have a Macbook so I'm not sure on what backup/restore programs are available or whether there is anything I can use to transfer files and such.
I don't know whether this will fix my problem but I figure it's well overdue for a restore anyway so who knows, maybe it'll help a little. Otherwise, I have it insured so I can always see about a fix if it's the battery itself that's faulty.
If you are stock without root or mods then Samsung Smart Switch should work. Google also syncs most things like apps and data, contacts, wifi passwords, etc and you can use a multitude of apps to backup call logs and texts. If you are rooted, you can use something like Titanium Backup. Then copy your internal storage to your Mac. Reset and copy back.

Ah yes I forgot to mention - my phone is not rooted. Are there any apps you recommend to back up texts and such? I didn't know whether Smart Switch was just for when you were switching phones.. I'm guessing it can restore once everything is backed up and the phone has been reset? Will make sure to back things up to Google too. Thanks

They have a Mac version. It should be able to backup your messages and such according to their FAQs. I like Call Log Backup and Restore and SMS Backup and Restore for apps on the phone. Very simple and works for most any phone or Android version.
If you're not rooted Samsung Kies should be able to do the backup for you.

With the S6 / S6 Edge, they introduced Smart Switch to replace Kies.
Thanks all! Will look into SmartSwitch and the other aforementioned apps. Really appreciate it! Also, is there any other way to connect the phone to my Macbook other than using Android File Transfer? I find the application very buggy and it keeps disconnecting from the phone when I'm trying to do stuff.
I don't use Macs, but I would suggest either an app like Wifi File Explorer Pro or if you are comfortable with command line stuff, just use adb.
