[Q] Contacts, WIFI, titanium backup, and other questions... - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running CM 6.1.3 v006.
First off, titanium backup is a REALLY REALLY misleading tool. Uninstall means "fugeddaboutit", I had to restore my whole ROM because you can't restore stuff you uninstall, which makes the whole point of a backup moot....
1) So, all this fun later, everything is working great, except I cannot ADD contacts...well, I kind of can, they just don't show up in my phonebook. It says "contact added", their name is next to the number, but they don't show up in the phonebook like they used to. I unfroze all the apps I had frozen and it works fine now...so I'm just trying to pinpoint which app it was that caused the problem.
IT was NOT infiniteview or SMS, but maybe someone else has had this and can help so I don't have to try 1 by 1?
2) How can I tell if I have the CM 6.1.3 v006 hotfix? I had a stock v006 rom, backuped in xRecovery, installed the hotfix, screwed up my system with titanium backup, then restored the stock 6.1.3 ROM. Then, I installed the hotfix again, and after a few reboots installed it again (don't ask). Have I screwed anything up? How can I check that I have all the hotfix files and no duplicates clogging up my system?
3) Sometimes, on some WIFI connections, my WIFI disconnects after a random period of time. Is this some feature that is putting my phone into deep sleep or something? It happens randomly only on some WIFI connections...
4) Can I freeze and uninstall spare parts without any worry? It doesn't seem to do anything for me, but is that the only thing governing the CPU? I like the underclock it provides, but does stock CM 6.1.3 v006 provide it even if I turn off spare parts?
Lastly, a fun little issue. I have a picture that is panoramic...but I can't seem to make it my wallpaper because it only scrolls 10% or so per home screen, not 100%. Is there a way to change this?
THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS!!! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

TB works just fine and isn't misleading at all. If you want to restore something after you uninstall you first need to BACK IT UP, hence the name Titanium Backup and not "Magic Restorer of all Apps you Deleted!".
Spare parts is just a settings menu and has nothing to do with your CPU scaling/voltage.
If you installed the hotfix then you have it. All your issues are your own fault and if you would simply read the instructions and actually follow them step by step you wouldn't be having any troubles.

Actually, not. It's well known that you should freeze apps instead of uninstalling them...because there is no way to re-install them. I have backed up everything and it did not want to restore after an uninstall. Try it!

I did follow everything step-by-step, but when it comes to things like performing a restore, it helps to know if I need to clear cache again, etc.
Regarding the contact and wifi problems...yes they are my fault, perhaps, but that doesn't mean that someone else can't help me solve them instead of acting like a ****. I've searched a lot for the contact problem I have and have found nothing, but someone who had the same problem before me can easily say "hey, this is the issue, just unfreeze _____".

Follow-up:
I had some free time so I tried apps 1-by-1 and the culprit was "contact sync", the google app. With it frozen I could not add contacts, but unfrozen was perfectly fine!
My advice: do not freeze/remove it.

You can also add contact on google website if you are synching

2.1 is so so slow

Not sure why so many apps are consuming so much CPU power. Like face recognition, home, other google stuff. It's been over a day and still theses apps are processing or whatever they are doing
Kinda disappointed with 2.1 atm.

I rooted my X10 and deleted all Sony dumb apps, no my X10 with 2.1 is Ok
I rooted mine as well, but haven't deleted the Sony crap yet. Could you refer me to a few threads here so I can do so as well.
I'm so close to dumping this X10 :/

Simply use Titanium Backup to freeze apps. No need to delete anything.
I noticed huge lag as well while playing with the phone for the first 15mins and thought it would get used to the new OS, it didn't. One solution I found, and worked for many people was simply restarting the phone. Now my phone doesn't seem like the same laggy X10 I had. For Titanium Backup info and instructions, here is the developer's official wiki: http://matrixrewriter.com/wiki/tiki-index.php if that doesn't help use the search feature on XDA, or Google it...
Also when deleting Sony apps be careful things like Mediascape are used for putting contact pics in your phonebook, etc. It is also the default mediaplayer so don't delete it. Same with Timescape, if you use your phonebook contacts connected from facebook, I noticed some data is taken from Timescape.
Somethings that I can confirm are safe to delete:
1. Moxier Mail
2. Wise Pilot
3. Creatouch
Before doing this, backup everything with Titanium Backup, no harm in backing up
Well I've been running 2.1 since the day it was released and I've rooted but haven't uninstalled anything and everything is running smoothly for me. As it is for my two mates.
It runs a lot faster then the Galaxy S 2.1.
I haven't come across any lag yet.

I followed the advice on this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826491
i just installed the update but my phone kindda lagg..
any solutions on this?
Just wait for few minutes. New Dalvik VM is on its way so it is a bit slow to start . Give it ~10-15 mins.
Patience Required
I have done some research and testing, Found that mainly face recon, media apps, Google Sync, where draining power but leaving on phone overnight, charging it had finished processing all the pictures and synced data on my phone, of course you can remove apps but I wouldn't recommend any SE based ones as they all control certain parts to improve phone quality.

I was one of the first that got the oficiall 2.1 update and i stumbled upon something.
When i got it i just used google sync on almost everything. but then i realised i needed some apps that i had made a backup of by using MyBackup PRO. So i thought that "oh well, might just sync the contacts again".
Thats when all hell started to break loose on my poor phone, it was lagging like CRAZY, all the time. Didnt matter what i did, still the same issue...
So i formated and reinstalled everything on the phone, and everything was going extremly smooth. Like the first time experience all over again.
Then i realized "Damn, i havent restored my contacts" and then it hit me. All my problems started when i restored contacts using ANYTHING else BUT Google's own sync. Cuz once i was going to restore it using MyBackupPro it said something about not being able to restore cuz no Google account was found on contacts, but i already had logged in my entire phone with my google account, exxept syncing my contacts with Google.
So my guess is that they have incorporated the contacts too much with Timescape and Google Sync so if u use like Titanium Pro or MyBackup or watever backup program, it will give u issues with this update.
But its meerly a speculation from my side...
Other Point....
The other thing I did notice a lot of is the developer/Diagnostic tool this I imagine will be used to send logs and stats back to SE for 2.1 optimisations for newer firmware, Though it very random at times.

Yea, i'm curious what is it...
I think i'm going to freeze it with Titanium.
Also another process running is R2R or something.
Anyone knows what is it?
Yea, I was afraid I would have to start from scratch again. Not sure what else to do atm, but "home" is using a lot of cpu power.

Remove "Home" and use a 3rd party launcher (LauncherPro, ADW Launcher)
You will be surprised how much quicker they are
what can be deleted
There is much better way to clean SE garbage applications than manual delete
use SystemApp Remover it is commercial applications it can be found here http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/systemapp-remover_kbyr.html
price is 1$
it works great on rooted x10i
applications are uninstalled from phone as they were never installed.
Safe to uninstall:
Korean keyboard
Japanese keyboard
Chinese keyboard
Danish keyboard
TrackID
moxiemail
quadrapop
backup & recovery
facebook
Wise Pilot
Creatouch
playnow and two accompanying files
there are some others like e-manual etc. But search forum for more complete list and SystemApp Remover can backup applications before uninstall so you can restore them if things go south
for contact backup use SE sync it is a good one if you use other SE phones
that's my 2 cents

Titanium Backup Question......

What is the main use of this app? What i mean is..is it mainly only for people who does alot of ROM switching...so they have to save there apps?
If someone (Like Me) who will never switch there ROM and plan on staying on the ROM they have...would they still NEED this app? If so..for what purpose?

In my opinion, yes.
Just because you never switch roms doesn't mean you don't need a backup. Ttitanum can be used to back up apps, apps data & system setting (an of course restore all, some or one).
More than likely at some point in the life of your tablet you will start getting force closings, lockup, etc, due to an errant app, incompatibility or whatever. In those situations, sometimes it is necessary to do a fatcory/data reset & poof there goes all your installed apps & settings. Reinstall titanium after the reset & restore & your back in business OR you can spend lots of time re-downloading, installing & configuring things the way you want them.
It's also a good idea to use CWM to do a nandroid backup just in case.

All custom roms on the gTab are already rooted. Only if you go back to stock will they not be.
Installing roms & using nvflash are really much easier that they look/sound.
Take a look at 'goodintentions' site - Viewsonic GTablet For Dummies - at http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ for step by step instructions.

Yea...the ROOT was done by the person who sent it to me. Im sure its easy. But i think its more my fear of something going wrong. I dont have that kind of money to buy another one. See all these horror stories and stuff.
But yea..i DO think i need to learn this for myself. In case something goes wrong. Trying to think positive tho. I have that site book marked for a month now. just in case. Thanks for the info.

[Q] Issues with the contacts on LPH ROMs

Hi, the truth is I´m having a little strange issue. First I thought it was a problem in a ROM. but after trying a few LPH ROMs and start removing things, I have concluded that it is the contacts syncro. I´ll try to explain myself a bit better to see if someone comes up with some solution.
If I install any LPH ROM (I tried 5 or 6 different) and I skip the gmail account, I have no problems in access to the contacts app or the phone one, but when I sync with gmail two things happens:
1. I can still go to the phone, from there to favorites and from there to all contacts. In this way, I see contacts perfectly.
2. But If I go to the contacts application The screen locks turns into to black, after that the phone application also crashes and I have to reboot.
I tried to correct permissions. Even with a cache cleaner (read that cleaning the cache of the contacts could help) but I'm pretty sure it will not be the correct way to clean the cache of contacts.
Let's see if someone comes up with a little something becouse I´m running out of resources ...
Thanks and best regards

if you have back up your data etc....... You better flash to root stock, to see if problem solved. Then take it step by step on another rom.

Two Questions... Phone book & App Backup

I I was wondering if there are any programs where I could do GREAT backups.
Mainly 1 for phonebook, so that I can safely copy all my contacts and modify them from the computer. I have like 300 numbers but want to erase 200 of them while still having them on computer if I need them. I can't find a reliable app to do this so am wondering if anyone has any experiences in it.
The 2nd backup I'm looking for is an APP one. It doesn't hve to necessarily backup the apps, but at least be able to queue all of them I want RE-installed and download them all from the google play store or something. I want to get into flashing ROMS, but I have like 7 pages of apps already that I don't want to lose, as I'm still sorting through trying to find the ones that work best for me so I can remove all the extras.
First off, I think these could've been answered by searching, so please do that in the future.
If your contacts are stored as Google contacts (as they should be), you can edit them from GMail. On the top left corner of the page, there is a menu that says "GMail." Click it and select "Contacts." I've found this to be the easiest way. It'll also always backup your contacts, and you can restore old versions of your contact list if you need to do so. (Since you talk about wanting to delete them from the phone, but keep a record of them, if you delete them from GMail and remember the date when you had them all in there, you can always restore it back to that date and they'll all be back.)
Also, from the People app, you can go to Menu -> Manage Contacts, and export the data.
Regarding backing up apps, this is the main reason I don't think you've done any research at all. There's a very-well-talked-about app called Titanium Backup that will backup and restore every app on your phone. You have to buy the key for it to restore all of them without your involvement--the free version requires you to give permissions to install each app.
First off, I did search prior to asking the question and could not find what I was looking for. There is no need to be rude, as searching was obviously the first step anyone would or at least SHOULD take before asking such a question.
As for your replies, I have chosen sync in my contacts, but they will not show up in Google for some reason. I've tried tons of ways, and it shows like it is syncing, but when I check... nothing there. I don't know if something is wrong in my settings or what, but I've tried many times... it just won't work for me for some reason. Maybe it's because I have 6 google accounts attached to phone, and even though I'm only syncing 1, it is mixing them up or something.
And I already have Titanium Backup, it keeps crashing on my phone for some reason, which is why I was looking for an alternative. I have over 300 apps on my phone right now. I know that's horrid, but I downloaded a ton of them for the same things so I can test them and find the ones I liked best, in which I plan to mark them all, re-flash the phone with whatever ROM (later once full rooting with S-off and everything has been tested more thoroughly), and only install those apps I liked, which should bring it down to maybe 100 apps or so.
I do understand I might SEEM like I didn't search, but trust me... I did.
Anyways, I thank you for your response (both the neg and the pos), and your time was greatly appreciated. I am about to toy with my settings and see if something is blocking the sync or something. I didn't know you could export from the people app though, so thanks for that especially.
UPDATE:
Man, thanks! That export feature is NICE! going to see how easy it is to modify it shortly, hopefully it's readable in Excel.
Regarding Titanium Backup, you are rooted and have granted Titanium Backup superuser permissions, correct?
Yes, I used that 1 click .bat file (from the first method that was shown). I think my superuser app was corrupt, so I re-downloaded it and it's working fine now. Thank you.

I agree, all contacts should be on google...then theres no worry about backups (ive had 3 android phones and a tablet and they all auto sync the contacts instantly).
Editing them on the computer is a breeze, the duplicate find/merge feature is simple and works very well.
What exactly are you all doing to make them sync though?
I went to Accounts & Sync
> selected the one GMAIL that I want the numbers synced to and hit sync now, but it doesn't do anything.

Backup doesn't finish

Hi.
I'll try to explain this, but it's not that easy since my english isn't the best. So please, forgive me.
I have the auto-backup for the data on my Z5C, so every night, when I charge it, the backup starts, but that's it. It stops at the beginning and the only way I found to make it complete the backup is opening the notification of the backup (which says it's still doing it) and then, magically, it really starts working and doing the back up. This is so annoying for me and I have no idea on what it depends on.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

do you use any app for hibernation etc.? or stamina mode? maybe something is blocking the backup process in background, for example greenify (if you use it)
