help please
You ask for help but don't explain what the problem is that you are having
well then...
Hey.. I'll bump and maybe pose a question.
I'm a flashaholic and always see a checksum md5 under rom downloads... but really haven't run into a failure when flashing.
How do u guys go about verifying this if needed?
I'll assume it's with a utility as mentioned in the topic, but curious if there are other methods, e.g. with an adb command?
You can either download an app for the computer, or for your phone (just search for md5 in the market, there are free ones.) Just run the app, choose the file, and make sure the sums match up. That's it!
Ah, had a feeling it was simple.. thx for the reply.

What OS are you on?
Did you download the update.zip and move it to the root of your internal sdcard (no folder)?
Doesnt sound like it.
Edit, also your post was not deleted... just in the wrong section.

but as to your problem i have experienced this in the past. i was never able to fix the problem with out using odin or the aio toolbar (nomaraider linked to) to revert to stock. It could be something as simple as you having a bad download resulting in corrupted files. if you wish to use odin there is a mirror for all the odin files you will need in my sig.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737 this is a good place to start for how to use odin
Superoneclick program found by searchin for it here, shortfuse ...z4root, not available in the market no more..use google...

OP, have you checked the noob guide in my signature? It may really help explain the process, and provide any files needed.
If for whatever reason you still dont understand after reading the noobguide you may also wanna pop over to youtube and check out videos from mobiletechvideos they give a good visual to go along with the the noon guide.
On youtube search mobiletechvideos vibrant and a whole bunch of videos will pop up but first read the noon guide or you likely wont understand fully what is going on in the videos.

I am a newbie but i just wiped my brother's x10 mini pro and installed MiniCM v6.0 Final Release | for CWM (big thanks to doixanh) MD5: E4B8A514D72034DDB0BC53B08F4142E. I know not what to use or how to use the md5 and what to do with it. phone giving md5 error. Help!!!!
Compare the md5 of the file you've downloaded to the md5 in the first post of the slade miniCM 6 thread. If there's a mismatch, download the file again. Though, I probably wouldn't install v 6.0 on a wiped phone, since it takes ages to boot. Read more in the above mentioned thread.

please pardon my ignorance, i'm a web developer but what exactly has md5 got to do in this? is there anything dat i have to do before installing or any other app i need to download?
I don't know exactly (actually, I have no idea...) how the md5 is generated, but from what I can understand, it reflects the integrity of the file. If the file is somehow corrupted during download, the md5 differs from the original one and if I recall correctly, slade included an md5 check in the installation script of his latest rom to avoid unnessecary phone-bricking. So, my advice remains, download the file again. There's no need to download or install anything else. I'm not a developer of any kind, so if you really want to know what the md5 is, i suggest google or wiki, but I'm fairly sure I've understood the use of it in this setting...

I'm trying to install an OFFICIAL Mod for Gingeritis3D, when I do it says that the "MD5 did not match." I'm getting sick of this MD5 crap, is there a way I can bypass it?
It's really not a great idea to ignore md5's that don't match, but if you don't care about how bad it could wreck your ROM, don't check it. Just flash it.
Yep if it does not match redownload it and check again.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
Just to expand on what they said, MD5 checks verify that the file you have is both complete and unaltered. If the check is failing, then there may be a bigger issue -- either the published MD5 is wrong or the file you downloaded has been corrupted or altered in some way (possibly an incomplete download). It would probably be best to contact where you got the file from.

Did you download the entire package ? it may happen if the download got interrupted mid way ......... in that case you'd have a zip file of a lesser size which can't be opened ....... try extracting the zip if you get an error you've got to redownload the package....
also ensure that the package is not read only (just incase)

ok... package is not read-only... it's -rw... so it's good....
how do i check the md5 checksum in multiupload?
i m downloading the latest version now... hope it wont get disconnected...
Find an app like MD5Summer (Windoze) to check the MD5 sum once you've downloaded the package.
Also, you can use pretty much any archive program (7Zip, IZArc, WinRar) to test the archive once you've finished downloading it.
If it comes up with fail for *any* file, don't flash that package/download it again. You might have to try downloading it from a different PC/internet connection like I did a while back when I was having probs downloading roms from home without them being corrupt.

no no... i mean before i downloaded the package.... is there a md5 checker tool so that i can compare wit the one that i downloaded?
ok i will try to download using another pc..
You have to finish downloading the rom/package before you can check the MD5 sum as there's nothing to check if you haven't downloaded it (obviously)

yes i know... what i meant was,... is there like a website that tells me the md5 cs in multiupload, so i can compare to the one that i had just finished downloading...
anyway.... thanks to the above poster.. i deleted it from my phone and then transferred the file again... and now it works.... weird,... i transferred first to my microsd, then to phone... i guess that method doesnt work... better to transfer it directly to phone...
thanks y'all!!! been a great help... very nice community here
The MD5 checksum is usually listed next to the link where you download the archive wherever you're downloading it from. Honestly, it's not that important. The most important thing is you get the entire file. And if you "test" the archive in 7Zip/IZArc/WinRar & it comes up all files OK you should be fine.
I've never had a problem flashing a rom/kernel where the test in IZArc has indicated all files contained within are OK/the archive isn't corrupt.

ic.... oh well.. thanks anyway .... ohh 1 last question.. so if i want to revert to the stock rom, i just do the same thing but with the stock rom i can download from samfirmware?
Why not download the stock rom from here ? I wouldn't know about files from Samfirmware as I've never downloaded anything from there.
If you want to go back to stock, download the rom from Intratech's thread, flash it in Odin, done. Again, test the archive integrity in IZarc or similar to make sure it's OK (given you seemed to have had some problems downloading an archive that wasn't whole or corrupted).

Forgive me, but unfortunately my native language is not English ... So .. my research on this forum are very complicated.
After several attempts and with great difficulty I managed to download from droidbasemment "cm-10-20121030-EXPERIMENTAL-p4.zip."
At the same address I see that there is a file "cm-10-20121030-EXPERIMENTAL-p4.zip.md5sum" which I think is the MD5 of the ROM file of 152.52 MB.
If so, how can I verify the MD5 to make sure that the downloaded file is not corrupt?
Many thanks to those who want to answer. Hi

most recoveries will verify the file automatically if that md5sum file is in the same place as the ROM when you flash it. If you want to make sure now, just open the md5sum file in any text editor to see the correct md5 and then look at the properties of the ROM zip file and look at the calculated sum there and confirm they match.
kRel there is a app just for this, I have it on my pc, give me some time and I will post it for ya. dill

Thank you ... this applet I also have in my computer. It integrates in "explorer" and is called "HashTab v3.0.0"
But the problem is that inside the file: cm-10-20121030-EXPERIMENTAL-p4.zip.md5sum nothing!
If you have the Wifi 7510 tab that is the wrong md5, you want the p4wifi md5

Do you have winzip or 7zip, you need a file extractor to open the md5 zip?

also...
search market for md5 and you'll find a ton of apps the will calc the md5 from a file you can compare that to the hash inside the md5 file posted by pershoot.
md5sum -c /path/to/file.md5
The *.md5 file and the file it corresponds to must be in the same directory together. This works from your device in a terminal as well.
I discovered the mystery ....
Opening the file from linux (ubuntu) shows a normal text file containing the MD5!
CWM is also able to read and verify the MD5. But I have not understand how to.
Maybe you need to copy the file to your tablet also MD5??
