I'm trying to install an OFFICIAL Mod for Gingeritis3D, when I do it says that the "MD5 did not match." I'm getting sick of this MD5 crap, is there a way I can bypass it?
It's really not a great idea to ignore md5's that don't match, but if you don't care about how bad it could wreck your ROM, don't check it. Just flash it.
Yep if it does not match redownload it and check again.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
Just to expand on what they said, MD5 checks verify that the file you have is both complete and unaltered. If the check is failing, then there may be a bigger issue -- either the published MD5 is wrong or the file you downloaded has been corrupted or altered in some way (possibly an incomplete download). It would probably be best to contact where you got the file from.

When I try to restore certain backups in CWR it says MD5 mismatch. Wat causes thus? It seems to be the name.
Note: I'm not altering the number sequence. Just adding to the end.
Is it cuz I use numbers or wat?

I had a few instances of this happening before and when I opened the .md5 file located in the nandroid backup folder and actually ran the md5sum myself I got a mismatch. I don't recommend changing the .md5 file to the correct md5sum.
To check it yourself, use terminal:
Code:
cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/<path to nandroid>/
cat nandroid.md5
md5sum *.img
There you can see if there are discrepancies.
Awesome. This forum's become soooo essential to me. Tundra 4the help.

Im having the same issue. If i rename a backup in RM and then try to reflash it, I always get MD5 mismatch. So whats the solution?
yo, i found a solution that worked for me:
just rename the the folder to its original tittle fx. "2011-06-30.15.21.11"
and then try restore again !
MD5 checks the integrity of the entire file.....you change something (even the name of the folder) and the MD5 checksum will fail.....I never rename my nandroids, nor any .zips I flash....I've never downloaded anything from here that was named in such a way that I wouldn't know what it was....

I'm calling foul on this one. I have renamed my folders for over a year without issue. Only had one problem recently with updating to CM7 on DroidX (using new 2nd init recovery). As long as there are no spaces in the folder name it works fine.
Read somewhere before that not enough space on your sd card may cause MD5 errors. I always thought recovery might have to 'unpack' the files somewhere to restore and if there's not enough space then it would produce an error. I have not tested this out myself.
md5's are stored for each .img not for the entire folder. As someone else said, I've been renaming backups for about 18 months on devices. As long as you don't include spaces (if renamed with RM it should warn you of this) you're fine. Chars like "- . _" are fine just no spaces.
help please
You ask for help but don't explain what the problem is that you are having
well then...
Hey.. I'll bump and maybe pose a question.
I'm a flashaholic and always see a checksum md5 under rom downloads... but really haven't run into a failure when flashing.
How do u guys go about verifying this if needed?
I'll assume it's with a utility as mentioned in the topic, but curious if there are other methods, e.g. with an adb command?
You can either download an app for the computer, or for your phone (just search for md5 in the market, there are free ones.) Just run the app, choose the file, and make sure the sums match up. That's it!
Ah, had a feeling it was simple.. thx for the reply.
I am a newbie but i just wiped my brother's x10 mini pro and installed MiniCM v6.0 Final Release | for CWM (big thanks to doixanh) MD5: E4B8A514D72034DDB0BC53B08F4142E. I know not what to use or how to use the md5 and what to do with it. phone giving md5 error. Help!!!!
Compare the md5 of the file you've downloaded to the md5 in the first post of the slade miniCM 6 thread. If there's a mismatch, download the file again. Though, I probably wouldn't install v 6.0 on a wiped phone, since it takes ages to boot. Read more in the above mentioned thread.

please pardon my ignorance, i'm a web developer but what exactly has md5 got to do in this? is there anything dat i have to do before installing or any other app i need to download?
I don't know exactly (actually, I have no idea...) how the md5 is generated, but from what I can understand, it reflects the integrity of the file. If the file is somehow corrupted during download, the md5 differs from the original one and if I recall correctly, slade included an md5 check in the installation script of his latest rom to avoid unnessecary phone-bricking. So, my advice remains, download the file again. There's no need to download or install anything else. I'm not a developer of any kind, so if you really want to know what the md5 is, i suggest google or wiki, but I'm fairly sure I've understood the use of it in this setting...

Did you download the entire package ? it may happen if the download got interrupted mid way ......... in that case you'd have a zip file of a lesser size which can't be opened ....... try extracting the zip if you get an error you've got to redownload the package....
also ensure that the package is not read only (just incase)

ok... package is not read-only... it's -rw... so it's good....
how do i check the md5 checksum in multiupload?
i m downloading the latest version now... hope it wont get disconnected...
Find an app like MD5Summer (Windoze) to check the MD5 sum once you've downloaded the package.
Also, you can use pretty much any archive program (7Zip, IZArc, WinRar) to test the archive once you've finished downloading it.
If it comes up with fail for *any* file, don't flash that package/download it again. You might have to try downloading it from a different PC/internet connection like I did a while back when I was having probs downloading roms from home without them being corrupt.

no no... i mean before i downloaded the package.... is there a md5 checker tool so that i can compare wit the one that i downloaded?
ok i will try to download using another pc..
You have to finish downloading the rom/package before you can check the MD5 sum as there's nothing to check if you haven't downloaded it (obviously)

yes i know... what i meant was,... is there like a website that tells me the md5 cs in multiupload, so i can compare to the one that i had just finished downloading...
anyway.... thanks to the above poster.. i deleted it from my phone and then transferred the file again... and now it works.... weird,... i transferred first to my microsd, then to phone... i guess that method doesnt work... better to transfer it directly to phone...
thanks y'all!!! been a great help... very nice community here
The MD5 checksum is usually listed next to the link where you download the archive wherever you're downloading it from. Honestly, it's not that important. The most important thing is you get the entire file. And if you "test" the archive in 7Zip/IZArc/WinRar & it comes up all files OK you should be fine.
I've never had a problem flashing a rom/kernel where the test in IZArc has indicated all files contained within are OK/the archive isn't corrupt.

ic.... oh well.. thanks anyway .... ohh 1 last question.. so if i want to revert to the stock rom, i just do the same thing but with the stock rom i can download from samfirmware?
Why not download the stock rom from here ? I wouldn't know about files from Samfirmware as I've never downloaded anything from there.
If you want to go back to stock, download the rom from Intratech's thread, flash it in Odin, done. Again, test the archive integrity in IZarc or similar to make sure it's OK (given you seemed to have had some problems downloading an archive that wasn't whole or corrupted).

Or you could use Mobile Odin and keep your root intact even when stock
Anyone else getting an inordinate amount of bad MD5 sums when downloading from androidfilehost? Seems like every other DL is bad now.
I suppose I should clarify a little more. I DL'd Jelly Beans and Hyper Drive RLS2 this morning. On both downloads the MD5 sums of the DL'd file did not match the posted MD5 sum. I was able to successfully flash Jelly Beans (haven't tried RLS2 yet) which leads to me to ask what the relevancy of MD5 sums is if they aren't going to match?
For reference I am using WinMD5 to check the values, but I was using a different prior and getting similar results.
