[Q] new fascinate user - please chip in with ur suggestions - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

heya folks ssup ?
k first i wanna say i have recently got a verizon fascinate which is rooted and is being used in india
love the handset
ok the thing is the guy from whom i purchased it , rooted it and installed the superclean2.9.2 in it ( i donno anything else about which kernal or stuff )
but the battery was such a pain .
he installed a new ram so now my handset shows following details
firmware - 2.2.1
baseband version - S:i500.04 V.EB01 ( so obviously he installed EB01 )
i wanted to ask how can i install a faster ROM , kernal radio which gives me great battery life
I donno nothing about rooting , and insatlling the rom and donno anything about the kernals and stuff, so if you folks can be kind enough to please please help me and suggest the best rom , kernal , radio etc for my handset
i know how to update ROM with ODIN but thats it
regards

Community ROM and Evil Fascination ROM seem to be the most stable/popular/best ROMs out there at the moment and they both come with kernels installed so you don't need to worry about that. However, I suggest you do some reading to form your own opinion and gain some knowledge about these ROMs/kernels before you go ahead and flash them. Everything you need is in the threads for these ROMs:
Evil Fascination: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1035420
Community: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1050453
The best way to learn about this stuff is to read as much as you can. And when you finally decide to flash or install something make sure you follow the directions carefully.

Thanks a lot for helping a newbie mate.
i am gonna do exactly as you said.
btw iguess its true what the guy told me that on most of froyo roms , there is a major glitch that if someone is calling you then he ll hear the ring but there will be no call at ur end . ?
as with eb01 i am facing this.

I like

There is a phantom call issue but that's only on the AOSP ROMS. Any Touchwiz based ROMS like Community ROM aka Ultimate Kangbang and Evil Fascination will NOT have that issue.

If you are already on SC 2.9.2. It's likely to be safe just to wipe Cache/Dalvik to install Com Rom.

i have got this file
EC10SC292x_DXC.tar.md5
as well as this this
ED01DB_DOx_SHARK.tar.md5
the first one is superclean i suppose, it works good , but the battery drain is a real pain in it , i mean it drains like 1 point in 5 min LOL.
i believe the first one can be simply installed with odin in one go , withouit doing anything else .

Battery Drain can be solved by ReCalibrating(Charge phone 100% > Turn off, Charge 100% > Turn on, Charge 100% > Recovery > Advanced > Wipe Bstats) or tryin to erase couple of apps that might causing the Battery Drain.

[Q] PLEASE PLEASE guide me to fascination ;)

As i updated from SC 2.9.2 - EB01 - to SC2.9.2 again ( but still bad battery backup ) - to DL09
so i am UPDATING my qury here on 13-5-11
I have this verizon fascinate , UNrooted ( with DL01 )and flashed with reliance settings in India. ( evdo and voice calls are working fine )
it is currently having
firmware version : 2.1-update1
baseband version : S:i500.04 V.DL09
kernal version : 2.6.29
build SCH-I500.DL09
the thing is battery backup is not good ( yeah looks like EB01 is best in battery )
also the call quality is worse , distorted and echoey.
with DL01 being stock , there is a noticable lag in phone here and there.
I am not familiar with how to do Rom , kernal , radio theme updates, all i did till date was just pick eb01 odin file and flash , and pick dl09 odin package and flash, apart from this i really donno crap about ROM , MODEM , RADIO , KERNAL
could you pl suggest me and guide me , which ROM and stuff i should get.
MY NEEDS at this point are --
good battery backup and a lag free interface
Vzn blaot removed
improved voice calls *( which are having a jarring sound + a echo atm )
and a smooth bug free rom with great kernal and radion and whatever
as i am a total newbie in this , please guide me with the proper process as well so that my reliance settings are not touched at all, I mean i cant afford a factory reset or complete wipe while installing new ROM , kernal and radio.

Ideally when flashing roms you have to be prepared for the worst...but having nandroid backups minimizes the risk
Really though wiping data is recommended when going to a new set up
Thanks for the advise mate , but as you know as soon as data wipe will be done , it ll go back to US VZN settings and then it ll be very diff for me to do anything .
atm i know how to use ODIN ,
i mean i have following files with me atm
CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO_REL.tar.md5
DI01package3.tar.md5
DL09.tar.md5
EB01_DXC.tar.md5
EC10SC292x_DXC.tar.md5
ED01DB_DOx_SHARK.tar.md5
all i know is just select one of these and flash it in PDA option onto the phone via ODIN ,
but thats all i know , and thats all i had tried once , but i have read something more should also be done .
so i am just asking what more can be done.

not a 100% on this.. but i wouldnt do anything if i was you.. these phones dont have sim cards.. so if you wipe data i dont believe ull be able to pick up service.. might want to talk with one of the well know devs.. or post in the general andoid forum.. good luck
given that 99.9 of us use the fascinate in america...idk if anyone will be able to help you with this
well i have odined superclean on it 2.9.2 ,
and things are fine
only 2 things which are yet unresolved
1.. battery drainage is fast ( it has been like that in all three fascinates which i had tried before with superclean )
2.. the voice quality is not good ( it was same before as well , ) echoe and with distortion .

well heard the term in here
actually some one calls you , he hear the phone ringing , but there is nothing at your phone , no display no ringing .
someone told me , this was an issue with all froyo roms ?
i guess thats why they call it phantom calls
one more thing , as i was not at all able to caliberate the battery , i mean despite following all the methods , i have now flashed DL09
now , again i need help on two grounds
1..how to disable 3G as there is no option to turn it off , i am on a basic evdo plan , so how can i disable it , ( while flashing DL09 the rooting was wiped too , so the handset isnt rooted anymore )
2.. what can be done to improve the call quality which is bad , echoey and distirted.
regards
You will not lose call settings flashing roms. 3g however may be different. Phantom ringing is when you receive a call and the phone rings with a different ringer and continues or just rings constantly. Your echo is being caused by radio issues with your current service provider. It's not the phone, it's the interaction between their towers and your phone. And a far as disabling your 3g, download a widget.
thanks a lot mate for the replies.
then tell me the no ringing and no display issue that. I mentioned. is there something like that in froyo rom . I mean the Guy calling. u hears. a ring and there is no ringing or display on ur side.
also. what widget you suggest for disabling nd enabling data in a non rooted dl09.
regards
Enabling and disabling data is built into froyo's notification shade. Pull down the shade , the 2nd to last icon on the right.

The issue you speak of is common but not native to froyo. Try another modem. And there should be a notification that looks like two arrows that are for data. If they're not present download beautiful widgets data our something. Try updating the modem and flashing commung rom. Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to download qpst build 215 and make a backup of your flashed provider profiles.

actually owing to bad backup in SC i odined DL09 , but then the stock also doesnt have a great backup .
all the issues are there except for the call problem ( NO DISPLAY OR RINGING WHEN SOME ONE CALLS )
SO now i am on DL09 with no rooting .
could u suggest me how can i move to community ROM , with the settings intact of my service provider + which modem or radio or kernal i should flash , and of course the method too , coz all i know i odin ( just flash the tar file thru PDA section ,
i ll be highly thankful if you can outline the easiest method to install the community ROM and also the best modem , and similar things .
AS i am on Eclair now , so obviously there is no option of disabling the data , so i have installed QUICK SETTINGS and it does all this beautifully indeed

Wello I'm on the phone so posting links and what not is a pita. But I would start by first locating the ec01 radio and then flashing that via odin. Then locate cwm and flash that as well. Them download commung rom and install via cwm (remembering to wipe) and you should be fine. I have personally tested and confirmed the ec01 will not wipe your profile settings

Thanks mate , so you think the call quality issue has to do with the radio.
right so what you are suggesting is that to move from DL09 ( unrooted state ) to community ROM , i need to do this -
1.. find EC01 radio ( would appreciate if you can gimme links )
2..flashing it into DL09 via odin through the PDA section ?
3.. then find the CWM ( i guess i have that 3.0 fix file - if thats wht you are suggesting ) and flash it as well into DL09 rom with ODIN via PDA options
4.. then download the community ROM ( version 1.3 full zip )
... after this i donno how to do it , as according to the tutorial there are very many steps and a Su file also involved
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053567
can u guide.
EDIT : ok so i have flashed EC01 radio, and still need to chk the voice quality.
would appreciate if you or any other awesome member at our XDA can guide me thru towards rest of the procedure in installation of community ROM .
( i just want to make sure that being a FROYO ROM , community ROM doesnt have that issue of no display and no ringing in incoming calls )
regards again

yes wiped thrice on both occassions as was written on the guide
after that i installed superclen but that was also losing the info after reboot , always asking me to backup and stuff
then i installeddl09 again
but as i want to root it so flashed
CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO_REL.tar.md5 - ( under the impression that its the same file which adrenalyn posted here

but it was not as its EB01 , now i have decided to move to ED01 , believing , it will be having good backup as well as a better modem and radio
so following the above thread.
any suggestions , PLEASE hurry .
EDIT : the same language stuck screen happened when i tried adrenalyn's method to upgrade to ED01 ,
in it as well the language screen wasnt going away , no matter how many times i hit any of the 2 languages.
so ultimately had to install complete DL09 , coz that seem sto work
i just donno what to do and what i am doing wrong.

[Q] Questions about new OS's and most things root and kernels... For Vibrant T-959

Hello everyone! I recently began contemplating rooting and doing custom installs for my 959, for something fresh and better performing, also seems my music player has been acting up recently and am really interested in something new along with voodoo sound... If necessary anymore ? Thing is, there are so many ways to root, and there are so many custom roms??? I don't know where to start or what to look for? I just want one of the better, stable, new custom roms available as of this date for the t-959. I search but seems there's no definitive answer? Just a lot of roms haha?
Also when downloading a rom, do I have to download like 30-40-50 kernels and add them? I see all these roms, kernels and update??? Is it just download a rom and that's it, am I making more of it than it should be?
I'm just really noob'ish, really confused, and really, really nervous! I can't afford to brick this phone, but I really want something new.
Thanks for reading, and I apologize for some of the silly questions I have asked .
I fell in love with rom flashing as it greatly improves performance and gives phone a new look. Especially since Vibrant isn't supported anymore.. I can't live without voodoo goodies=) Definitely improves sound.
Negative side of custom roms is it takes up some of your time.. Finding a rom you like, tweaking it.. Not too mention you might brick you phone.
If you decide so.. the most important thing is always read OP...
I used superoneclick to root. I recommend Bionix 1.3.1 as a first rom very stable though a bit outdated. After playing around with the rom, you can try different 2.2 kernels and modems. Then go on to gingerbread roms.=)
Extremely easy. I'd suggest reading some of my guides in my signature.
I would Odin
Then download a ROM (nothing else needed)
Download my option b update.zip
Move both to internal sd
Reboot into recovery
Click reinstall packages
Choose to install zip from sd, select ROM, reboot.
Sent using the XDA app.

Thank you trailblazer and thanks s15....
Any roms you would recommend s15? I appreciate the starting rom you gave me Trail, I'm looking for something a little more up to date I suppose? I was looking at cm7 or Simply Honey 5.0 Revolution(JVR GB 2.3.4)? Something with voodoo already in it? Something pretty stable with a bit of features. Maybe a lil less lag than stock 2.2, better performance, audio and battery life as well?
Thanks so much again both!
cm7 in nightlies still, though seem pretty stable, i havent tried for a while. Lots of features though dont think battery too great.
Simply Honey is a good one, stable, lots of features, great developer support.
I'm currently on RevolutionRom 2.3.4, stable and smooth for me, only bad is itfreezes like once or twice a day. More of a sgs2 look which i like. Good battery.
FYI Flashing Gingerbread roms, you will need to flash gingerbread bootloaders to remove rainbows and see recovery ( theres a post on it)
Also GPS isn't stable on gingerbread.

I think I'm gonna try the simply honey one or wait till he does a final release?, as for the bootloaders, what do I do or go to there? Also for the kernels, do I need to download one for simply honey? Should I download one for it?
I seen some roms or kernel can improve wifi and signal? Is that true, if so point me in that direction hahaha...
Thanks so much bro by the way.
search for Vibrant gingerbread bootloader, it's flashable via odin..simply honey roms comes with bullet kernel & there's Simply Honey Talon Kernel build by simone201 =)
Thanks man, do you mind if I ask which one you would recommend (Odin or Clockwork?)... I stumbled upon this youtube how to called "Custom ROM installation tutorial for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant)", and was just wondering if I can apply all his methods to SH 5.0? Sorry tried to link it but cannot due to my post count... Oh and when I'm done, how should I proceed with the new talon kernel?
Also if there's a new release of honey or the final release, say I installed this one... Do I have to do it all over again? Same wit kernels? Finally, do I need to revert my unrooted stock 2.2 froyo back to a previous version before gingerbread or any of this?
Thanks for your reply. I'm actually feeling like it's almost go time with this rom and kernel haha. Really thanks heaps!
D bootloader is only flashable by odin..you can read the OP for simply honey, what you need is all in there in d development area..flash kernel that works 4ur phone u decide on that wether bullet or talon..you can use sgs kernel flasher to switch bet the two..

One last question before I do this, I seen SH 5.1, but I seen it was for the i9000? Which one should be used? or the one you may recommend? Im looking for voodoo sound controls.
Thanks
EDIT:
Nevermind I read it will be up tomorrow... gonna do 5.1, this is pretty exciting as long as I don't screw anything up hahaha
i reverted back to stock firmware via odin and one click rooted my phone, factory wiped all data and now I remember after I rooted my phone I had unzipped file in my sd card and it told me that i can just delete it after I was done, well i did and then watched a video on clockwork that said not to delete it?
EDIT: Nevermind I fixed it, I just unrooted and rooted again...
So sorry for being a pain, I know you guys have better things to do.
3 questions and this thread is done... thanks for the help...
1. Does the market work on simply honey? Like can go in and search and download it like usual?
2. should I use odin to install 5.1 or cw?
3. how does the kb5 work? is that like default or do i have to flash it?
Thanks a million in advance!

[Q] Custom rom install questions

I know there have been a few threads about which custom ROM to use, but I still have several questions.
I am currently using WB's v.6 ROM. For the most part, it works well, but I occasionally experience trouble when it crashes on reboot/boot. I have to take out the battery and reset my phone. The other problem I have with it is it gets stuck in airplane mode and can't go back to normal mode (I ride the subway daily and I switch to airplane mode when I'm undergorund and switch back to normal when I go above-ground). Again, a reboot doesn't seem to fix the problem--must take out battery.
I notice people have had good things to say about TEAM and EWJet's roms and I was thinking about trying those out to see if I can get rid of the problems I'm having. I notice in both ROMs, the ops say to install custom kernel. I'm not too good with fixing my phone in case I screw up with the kernels, so I prefer to just use stock. Do I have to use a custom kernel??
Also, I am looking to use the ROM on a pretty permanent basis (i.e. I don't want to be flashing/changing ROMs every month). Which ROM is better for a techno noob for daily use?
I think in all custom ROMs that are stock-based, kernels are offered as an optional addon.
I can say that with certainty for TEAM since I am the co-creator, but I'm fairly sure that this is the case with EWJet ROM too.

Thanks for your response! I'm going to download and try TEAM's rom now

Installation was a success. Set up was easy. So, this is working out quite well.
I did find one bug (?) The google search bar widget crashes no matter what keyboard I use to type search terms. I did a fresh install by wiping both cache partitition and the dalvik cache before installation. After install, I did a fix permission (and rewipe all cache). I still managed to find the FC.
For a noob pls revert to default stock rom. But the modding world is exciting for ppl who have time.
I searched the threa and saw another perosn having the same problem.
But anyways, I did do a back up of my old ROM so I can always restore.

Rom! Rom! Rom! Which one ?

Hi
I have recently rooted my Galaxy s2 and now im looking for a different rom but there is so many to choose from and so many old threads with roms in them i have not got a clue what to choose from. Idealy im looking for a rom that will help give me longer batter life, a better wifi signal and somthing that i can add themes to.
I also have 2 questions i would like answered before i continue with a new rom.
1st Question. I currently have firmware version 2.3.5 would i need a rom compatable with this firmware?
2nd Question. My build is Gingerbread would i also need a rom that is compatable with Gingerbread
Any advice or appropriate links would be appreciated.

Check if it is i9100 or i9100G. In case, it's i9100G then mate, you don't have much to choose from. If it's i9100 then you will have to try different rom and kernel combination to suit your need, everyone has different battery life for every other user. You can start off with Checkrom, it's quite great, I'm using it. Irrespective of the rom, read first page and last 5 pages of the thread so that you know what to expect, problem wise and function wise. Read, read and read carefully before doing anything.

lool i think ur getting a bit confused mate.
cwm isnt a kernel, its a program allowing u to flash zips.
i imagine ur running stock right?
then ur kernel will be stock.
i reccomend either checkrom v6 or if ur feeling daring ICS roms r pretty gd aswell
CWM is not a kernel its a function inside the kernel mate
you need to decide wether you want ICS or GB
for ICS i'd reccomend XXLPH stock ROM its the best rom i've tried for 4.0.3
and for GB you can go for Checkrom V6 i've heard its pretty awesome ( i tried v4 myself but didnt like the battery life)

no, the kernel is wen u go into about phone and go to kernel version. It will then display it underneath.
Wat rom r u running?
did u buy the phone from the shop or somewhere else?

I've tested the ICS stock rom and a few others but for now settled for the "Resurrection Remix ics v9.3 black edition XXLPH 4.0.3 FULL-Wipe" and I'm very satisfied.
Battery wise it a lot better and the interface seems snappier and not as bloated as the original rom.

Chears mate.
From my point of view reading all the threads and topics regarding kernals and roms is a bit mind messing because there is so many too choose from
ok do the following, grab your phone - > dialer - > *#1234#
this will display PDA,CSC and Phone, this will provide the rom you are running for further reference
then into settings->about phone->kernel version ( must be something since you have root and CWM, im guessing chainfire kernel)
with that information we can provide you a better help
See my sig. Best Rom by far that I have tried.

I think if you are confused with the diffrences between kernel and cmw, i am pretty sure you are confussed about a lot of other things. So i think some reading is in order -

This is a very good guide to read and their are other links within that thread to look through too. We all start not knowing what to do but lots of reading always helps, i hope it all goes well for you.
P.S. I am using ICS CM9 Codeworkx and it's a great rom, very stable even for a new user of custom roms.
as i thought you have a CF-Root so you are rooted and with CWM, on your app drawer you should have the CWM icon.
So you are ready to flash mate
you have to pick a ROM
for ICS i recommend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
for GB try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312240
in both scenarios you have to download the files and place them inside your phone via usb on a folder, then go into CWM mode and pick the option "install zip from sdcard" navigate inside your folders and pick the file you downloaded.....couple mins later you flashed succesfully your phone
cheers

Thank you everyone for your support and patience
the difference...amm you will need to youtube or google that as they are tons of different things, ICS is faster, smoother and damn good looking for me at least. Ill never go back to GB once i tasted the ICS
the kernels used for both ICS and GB are different each rom has its own kernel where the dev tested it works correctly, you could change them but if you flash a kernel you shouldn't or if its not compatible with the rom you might regret that
stick with the kernels included in the roms unless you are 100% sure they can work on the rom you pick
oh and one last thing before flashing stuff wipe your phone, its done inside CWM there's an option which says "wipe data/factory reset" and also wipe your dalvik cache inside CWM as well on "advanced->wipe dalvik cache"
hope it helped mate

im a little outdated on kernels but last time i checked there were kernels for GB and kernels for ICS. not sure if they work on both operative systems now
still, stick with the kerneles included in the roms, they are tested and included in the roms cause they work, by your question i feel you are concerned about losing CWM
worry not mate, CWM is present in all of the rooted kernels

[Q] closest s3 ROM to stock? i7777

I still run a stock ice cream, I'm officially going to root it and put a custom fw on it. It would be a miracle at this point if they updated it.
What is the closest to the s3 rom? I'm guessing its shostock3? I really want a stock rom, with all the samsung apps. I know people ask all the time what the best rom is etc etc, but is my assumption correct here? i777 here.
my only fear is that shostock will be worse on battery life than an official one, but at the same time, that could be a false notion with me.
Thank you for any input.

With any custom ROM you should get better battery life as opposed to the stock ICS ROM, as there are kernel bugs that drains battery at a faster than normal pace.
There is also an issue with the stock kernel that can permanently brick your phone (do NOT perform a factory reset or wipe of any sort unless/until you have replaced that kernel!!)
SHOstock3 can get awesome battery life.
so is shostock3 the only rom that gives me jelly bean + touchwiz 5 ? and the samsung apps ? I saw the music player is the same as the s3 etc??

Here's my suggestion: make a nandroid backup, flash SHOstock3 and see whether you like it or not.
I installed Fromaroot and rooted the phone. I'm trying to get CWM on there now.
I was trying to do it without odin and without using a computer much. Did I mess up the process doing the fromaroot, it did succeed. All I have now is the android recovery(which i'm guessing isn't much help?).
I'm trying to install shostock, but it looks like i already need a kernel that has CWM already on the phone before I install that? I don't want stuff that is already iterated to me repeated, and have the thread locked.
But can I use mobile odin pro to install a kernel with CWM? or should I really be using the computer right now to do all of this?
Thank you

Assuming the root process worked correctly, then you *can* use Mobile Odin (pro or lite) to install a custom kernel containing ClockworkMod Recovery. For more detailed information, please see the guides linked in my signature.
even though it says I already need a kernel that has CWM to install shostock on the official page?
sorta came off as most people will have already been flashed etc.
the last thing i want to do is brick my phone on the first attempt. Also what kernel should I flash, there is so much outdated info out there. I dont see anyone on here mention fromaroot but it worked perfectly, maybe it's a bit of a newer tool.

Read the 1st link from creepyncrawly's signature to get started.
Simple rule to follow. Look what version of Android your phone is running now, and then read the related posts for flashing kernel, ROM, CWM, etc. That's how I did it. This phone is almost 2 years old and of course outdated info is floating around.
For me, it took less than an hour to root/flash the phone, but days to read through all related posts.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
You started out with stock 4.0.3 (or 4.0.4.) Your stock kernel contains stock 3e recovery, which you can not use to flash custom firmware. So, to put custom firmware on the phone, you need to first flash a kernel containing CWM Recovery. (There is no stand alone recovery on this phone. The recovery is built right into the kernel.) You can do that by several methods. Using Mobile Odin is the quickest and easiest. It's almost fool proof.
And yes, the phone is starting to show it's age, and the guides are getting a little out dated. But the information is still good. What is important is understanding the process. You (and everyone) should understand exactly what you are doing before you modify your phone. Once you understand the process, you are much less likely to make a paper weight.
For a custom kernel, use one of the ones linked in the OP of the thread for 4.0.4 ICS, UCLL6 plus root which is also linked in my signature.

Just to recap, to go from stock to custom firmware
1. root
2. install a custom kernel containing CWM recovery. It should be a recovery that works with your current system.
3. use CWM recovery to flash the firmware of your choice.
4. profit
Thanks guys,
I've actually flashed a few phones for my friends, read up and 20 mins later i was off an on.
This was a bit more of a trouble for me though. Tons of ways to do it, many versions of this phone, half the time i would be reading and be like, damn this is not for the i777 can't take any chances.
i'm going to put that kernel on there , and then flash shostock3 , seems to be the closest thing to an s3 like experience on this phone.
I was / still am, heavily worried about battery life, something keeps telling me this is like going to cut my battery in half, i blame the experience on the t mobile g1, where i put all these roms on my friends phone and it just sucked away the battery.
Hopefully shostock3 does a good job though! ICS just isn't cutting it anymore

Not to worry! See attachment.
Admittedly, this was very light usage. But it gives you an idea what is possible.
Oh, and this is the stock battery that came with the phone in Oct. 2011. No telling how many charge cycles on it. At least 4-500.
got shostock3 on it, runs beautifully
battery life so far is just as good or even better than stock, lots of bloatware gone.
Thank you to everyone.
Fromaroot > 4.0.4 custom kernel (mobile odin) > shostock did the trick, couldn't be easier, if you ever really motivated and didn't mind waiting a bit, i guess you could do that whole process with just the phone.
only thing i used the computer for was transferring files.
and now 4 days later the official one comes out!
Everyone lost hope, even me!
I'm tempted to try it out, but at the same time, i'm quite happy with shostock3

mr-cook has a modified stock version. It's stock system plus root and busybox, and the jebo kernel. So if you wanted to try it out, you could make a nandroid backup of SHOstock3, try out the cooked rom, and if you don't like it, go back real easy.
