I'm trying to change the background of the status bar at the VERY top of the screen, but in my 'framework-res.apk' there r two, almost identical status bars (see above title)
...Soooo, which one is the one at the very top of the screen.
Is this completely retarded or am I missing something?

You gotta be kidding with this.
Did you even try opening the files to see which one is which?
I mean I know which one you need, but to answer this question would probably be dangerous to my intelligence.

status_bar_background is the pulldown shade and statusbar_background is the actual status bar background. should have been pretty obvious if you opened up the framework.
Thnx I figured it out but on the theme I was looking at they were the same. I assumed as much but wanted to be sure

Guys,
thank you very much for your reply.
However none of this actually solves my problem.
I tried Wisbar, but it does NOT hide any of the icons that I want to hide.
Also, the thread mentioned does not say anything about HIDING the three icons, only about changing their look.
Am I wrong in my judgement?
Cheers
i think you are wrong, because if you know how to change an icon, you can change it to an one transparent pixel icon... if im wrong, would someone please correct my assumption; i only changed the start icon of my taskbar, but i think you can take an icon in the colour of your taskbar background, so it would be "invisible" ... am i wrong??

P.S. im also sure, that you can hide the icons with wisbar advanced eventally with the "wisbar advanced desktop" called variant that i used 2 years ago under WM2003, but its not easy to configure i remember

you are right about making icons transparent, but this does not solve my problem. I need MORE space on the taskbar, (the icon that displays number 1 is really annoying and USELESS, it serves for NOTHING at all). If I make the icons transparent, I will not see them, but they still will be there ocupying the precious space that I would use for somethibg else.
I tried the wisebar and I like it, (it is similar to Qmenu I am using), but again, it does not allow me to get rid of the annoying icons.
Am I doing something wrong? well, I am doing a LOT of thimgs wrong, but I mean in this case ...
Ok, now i see your problem, but im afraid, cant help you, but im still sure, that its possible to solve ...

I know for sure that wisbar advance does allow what you are talking about (but I'm not sure what the number one is though as I don't have that item on my taskbar). Make sure you aren't using the lite version. I dont have wisbar install right now so I cant remember exactly how to change it, but I know if can be done because I wanted the almost the exact some configuration as you and was only able to get it via that program. Play around with it some more and if you stilll cant find it let me know and I'll check it later when I have time.
Have you searched for reg edits? I know you can remove the battery. Notifications are a bit harder though. I'm pretty sure Wisbar advanced lets you customize what icons are present, but Wisbar basically just covers up the taskbar with an overlay.
What do you need all this "extra" room for? If you edit the phcanOverbmp.dll you can delete the icons, leaving only the ones you want. It won't "remove" the icons but would make them invisible so it appears to just be 1 long bar.
I dunno, but I can't figure out what you need all this extra "space" for. It appears that's gonna be your best and fastest solution without requiring a 3rd party app to always run in the background and having to deal with the overlay of Wisbar.
its easy,
All I want to have is on the taskbar ALLTHE TIME:
TIME, BAttery and notification, but the two marked icons (ASL and Edge) prevent me from viewing the rest ofd the icons.
I just finished testing with Wisbar that unfortunatelly does not allow this. These two stupid icons that are no use for me, cannot be removed with Wisbar (latest version).
I would search the registry but where... And... I do not want to get rid of battery and time....
Same problem
Hi, I just want to remove the number 1 on the task bar. I have just installed the onyx ultimate 4.2.1 and it appeared after I turned on the cellular on the comm manager. The number 1 referrs to the phone line 1. It really annoying to se it there.
please help someone!!!
Hello. Also same problem. Also using the HTC Touch Pro (right forum, right? Pretty sure.)
This is whats on my Elite ROMS system bar:
I would like to get rid of the big H icon. It goes ot the same thing the H(with signal bars) does! And I would be able to see the entire programs name if it were removed. That, or at least my notifications wouldn't be grouped into the "Talk bubble" icon. I hate when that happens. Three friggin clicks to dismiss an alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any idea? [subscribed]
Thank you for bringing this up because I use OzIM and nothing drives me more insane than not realizing I have a missed call because of the multiple notification bubble. I would be happy just to see signal strength, and thats it. I use a battery bar at the top of the screen so that battery status can go away. I hope someone finds a solution I would life to know as well.
Why not just edit the DLL files where the icons are stored...that should do the trick.
Use reshacker to edit the dll files..
what ddl files are they stored in?
Wont that only make the invisible (vs GONE). I.e. the goal is to recover the space they are inhabiting and slide the others over towards the right.
Removing the image will only "blank" out the space, not slide the others to the right.

use icon size 1 pixel width...make transparent.
They are stored in shellres.192.dll and phcanOverbmp.dll...maybe some other places too but the majority should be there.
ok ... I'm pretty sure this isnt gonna work based on the pervious comments in this thread.
But I wont know til I try. So off I go to try....
Found the shellres.192.dll file .. but if I try to copy it off the device via activesync, windws wnt let me. What gives???
How do I get it off my phone?!

HTH,
I have a question:
I'm trying to learn how to make a transparent status bar background on the pull down notification bar (not where the clock is shown but where your notifications come up) I want to make one with a solid image on the corner I've read about 9.pngs over and over and over again but maybe if someone is willing to spend a few days going back and forth on this topic it would be much easier as a group.
I basically want to make a semi-transparent black pull down background with an image of a skull on the corner in red. I know I have to modify the status_bar_background.9.png but here are the following questions I have:
The image is super slim, what are the dimensions of the actual background? Area in pixels.
After modifying and creating my own background (in photoshop) what steps do I need to make sure the picture will fit perfectly on the pull down menu?
Using draw9patch what are the requirements on each field needed to make sure the background will fit?
I want to thank everyone who is willing to help me in advance because I'm sure this will probably take some time to learn. Any tutorials and links would be perfect.

First open up the img you want in Photoshop. Open up the original status 9.PNG.
Make the img you want to layer by double clicking the tab. Bottom right. It should say background.( in photoshop)
Now cut the img and paste in the original status bar. Now resize the img and make the picture you want to same size as original pic.
Now if you see bottom right you will see that you have two layer.( the original, and the picture u just resized)
Click the original img and delete it.
Now bottom right above the layer tabs there is opacitiy.
It should say 100%. Turn down the opacitiy of the picture you resists. Save it. Your done.
I'm assuming you have some knowledge in Photoshop. If you don't, and stuck pm me.I will assist you.
is this my final result
Ok so I duplicated the background to get the transparent black and a solid skull but I'm not sure if this is what you meant let me know if I'm wrong check the images below any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Just flashed my theme but the image still shows the original, hmmm...
any suggestions on what I did wrong?
[Q] just had this thought. When you're on a call, the status bar glows green and dark. My question I guess is how hard do you guys think it would be to copy that over into the static, normal status bar. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it but nothing in my search and all my time on xda never saw this question. Being that I don't believe Im that original it's probably difficult enough for it not to have been done by now but had to ask. Maybe not the best for battery but how cool? I'd sure spare some amperage ^_^

status
I really hate the white status bar and would be willing to pay someone to change it to black as long as it would not effect future updates or cause any problems. Of course the icon colors would also have to be changed so it's not that simple a task.
If icons you mean battery and h+bars that'd be the easy part for me. Though I know you're trying to keep stock and over 100, 175 ^_^ I don't mind if if it takes edits to frame that nearly bricks. Just wanted to put it out to see if anyone has tried and thoughts. Thanks for reply! =D

Changing the color of the status bar is relatively easy you just have to edit the .png files in the framework-res.apk. That is how themes are done. I also think there is a simple black status bar mod in the themes section, but I am to lazy to find it specifically. However these changes do require a deodexed system which does not allow you to update, but it is not that difficult to flash back to stock using an sbf and then update.
I've searched for an embarrassing amount of time to find where the 4g notification icons are located. I found some info in the og evo forum saying its in Settings.apk but i cannot find it anywhere in evo 3d. I'm mostly concerned w/finding the stat_notify_wimax_in_range, I believe. Left hand side notification 4g wifi symbol with exclamation. Can anyone direct me where to find this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

are you trying to find the way to remove that notification? If so, I made that mod in the other thread about this...Found Here
On page two, I posted links for the mod that I made to remove that (your 4g is on!) from the status bar.
The Direct Link to mod can found here (view single post)

I was hoping to match all my other icon edits. Just trying to add a bit of color but I think i'll be just fine removing it. Or help w/locating is great.
Many thanks!
The 4G icon just bugs me being the only white icon(s) left. I literally looked thru every apk in 5 different roms trying to nail their location. May be going blind!

If youre trying to color the actual 4g icon (signal bar) that is located in systemUI.apk (res/drawables-hdmi) just look for the icon that most resembles the one your setup uses

Thanks again Vinchenzop. You're very helpfull but i still can't find that icon for 4g notification that pops on left of status bar. i have edited all of the ones in settings and systemUI but the dang thing is still white. not sure where it is but I can't find it anywhere. oh well!
I did use your removal zip and my status bar looks much better not having the one lone white icon. I really appreciate your help on this!
oh, and another thing, not sure if this will help anyone help me locate this mysterious icon but it has only 3 wifi bars above 4G and an exclamation. it pops on left of status bar when i am disconnected from 4g, and in notification pull down. i guess it is possible the rom i built from was missing the icon or maybe i deleted it somehow but i've also lookeded in other roms too and no luck finding it. if anyone has it, could you post it here and let me know what apk it's in?
i found the correct icon in an og evo rom but i can't find the matching one in any 3d roms. i'll attach it. this must be the one that would change it but i can't find it. the same icon title in 3d has 4 bars and isn't the one that pops in status bar.
still, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try doing a search in these APKs:
SystemUI.apk
framework-res.apk
com.htc.resources.apk
I'll take a look and see if I see it. It may very well be in HTC's Framework.
Ok i have found a way to make any wallpaper appear with transparent notification and onscreen keys just like stock wallpapers, on stock launcher. It is so easy and i just haven't seen it reported anywhere so I thought I should mention it. All u need to do basically is to zoom in just a little bit on the wallpaper when selecting it. I mean crop it just a little bit. You will see it works like a charm
Updated instructions: long tap on homescreen. Go to wallpapers. Select ANY picture u want. Comp!ete action using "Crop picture". Tap on the upper blue arrow and drag it down just a little bit( really just a timy bit is enough). Select crop. U are done. Enjoy

that "semi transparent" notification bar is usual. The really transparent notificaton bar is when you dont see any edge of it. So, sorry but its nothing new.
