Thanks for the reply! - do I need to be rooted?
For lcd density yes. Launcher, no. Just download them from market. Ex: Launcher pro, adw launcher (ex), go launcher (pro), tons more.

Is the display really that dull and not sharp? I'd hope for a step up above pentile, larger size and all.

I think it's very sharp and readable, but that's coming from having used the Nexus One for almost a year and a half.

I'm have an i4 at the moment, and I can't see any pixels on that so on the SGS they are a little noticeable :/
Can anyone tell me what LCD Density actually does please?
is it effective?
Will it make text in the browser sharper?

its pretty damn sharp, and the only way your going to see pixels is if you go looking for them.

haha ^^ that made me LOL
on another note, i have tried changing the density by modifying the build.prop with root explorer, the default is set at 240 so i tried 210, made it look so much cleaner but the games have a slight issue with it tried running compatibility mode but no joy so back to 240 for now...
If you want to do it using root explorer
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL BUILD.PROP!!
1. navigate to system/build.prop and open in text editor
2. Make sure ur read write (lil button top right)
3. scroll down and look for "ro.sf.lcd_density=240"
4. change to whatever you want, i chose 210
5. save and exit and reboot

Can you remind me how please :/ I did this the other day but I can't seem to find it now :/
EDIT - Remembered ... I have already done it tho :/
In the end the display will always be WVGA and 4.3 inches so small text will never be as sharp or pixels as invisible as on an iPhone 4, ZTE blade, or other small-screen high-res device.
On the up side Samsung's choice of WVGA probably kept costs reasonable and means all software is compatible, and the screen is still flippin' gorgeous
Screen is beautiful. I'm using the above mentioned font. Can't see why anyone would complain. What r u guys trying to read?

Hey I understand, but was using a motorola atrix the last 2 weeks. And that was a poor excuse of a phone. My fiance has a iphone 4 and my naked blind eye dont see any difference. Its just me, guess I got low standards.

Hey, So i hate the fact that when i set my wallpaper i need to crop it. Is their a way to get around this so it can just be the original size ?
wow.. none has answered it till now?? its pretty simply man.. when that cropping box appears just touch and drag any of its corner and you can inscrease the size of the crop..
..but the aspect ratio cannot be changed..
Yeahh i know that you drag the box.... sorry i explained it wrong, i ment the aspect ratio :/

I hate that problem too even resizing on windows to 960x800 makes it look bad on the phone.. Maybe it's due to the 65k colour screen?

I run mine at 200 with android overclock and using adw launcher i have edited the grid to get more apps on each screen...
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
So dropping the density works better for you? Thinks look less pixelated when I raise the density, maybe it's just me
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Raising the density is lowering the resolution. Lowering the density is raising the resolution. By dropping to 200 I have basically upped my resolution, so to speak, and my app icons are smaller... I then had to be able to edit the default grid for my apps and widgets to be able to effectively use the increased screen real estate... I am therefore able to have 8 apps across my screens and another 8 down, if I so wished. I do not have 8 down because with ADW Launcher I get home screen rotation back so there is only so much I can put on the screen in portrait that will actually fit in landscape... Check out the screenshots below bro...
I Got My Density At 215, I Tried 200 And It's Just Too Small For Me Cuz When I Try Tapping On A Link Or Anything For That Matter I Had To Be Dead On. It's All A Matter Of Preference To What Ya Like.
I noticed lowering the density screws up navigation. It doesn't follow you on satellite view. Slight deal killer for me.

Really... I haven't noticed that, but then again I haven't had to use the nav in the last few weeks... But I have used the nave with the LCD density change.... I was using LCD density app and not android overclock tho... Maybe that's the difference???

Yeah man, I tried changing the views, and it still wouldn't follow. It just stayed on the same spot. When I switched the density back, all was good...
It sucks too, because my screen looked way sharper IMO. However, I use navigation too much to not have it work as I like...

With ADW Launcher pro... Look for it in the market... It lets you edit how many columns and rows of apps you have on the launcher and in your app drawer!! I couldn't deal with blur so this has helped me get over not having CM....
the screen quality on my tp when using webos is better then when using cm7. is there a way to fix it? thanks
Depends on which one you're using. WebOS looked horrid for me.
It's cause the current CM7 port is running a lower res than the Native webOS resolution.

I too felt webOS looked better than CM7. I was using 160 and 140 for LCD density. Then I upped it to 169 and it looks much better to me, also i installed the ICS roboto font and that looks much better than the stock g-bread font. Also for some reason when i went the other way and took LCD up to 169 suddenly I could get a few more apps in the market that seemed to be missing before (I remember early on with my Nook Color the LCD density affected the market as well).
Also there is a market app "hp touchpad wallpaper applier" that lets you use high res wallpaper in CM7 which looks much better.
Won't it simply be because cm7/gingerbread wasn't meant to run on anything bigger than 7"screen?

Anyone know the exact dimensions the wallpaper has to be for it to retain 1080p and also use the entire wallpaper instead of making you crop the wallpaper.

THIS. No one is answering this question. I keep seeing people talk about their 1080p walls, but no one mentions that it seems to force an annoying crop. I want full 1080x1920! If no one else answers, I'm going to see if I can figure it out when I get home tonight.

Yea I mean the stock wallpapers that come with the phone are 2160x1920 and they still require cropping if you manually set them as a wallpaper via gallery.
So yeah, 2160x1080 works. What I did was I just found a good 1920x1080 image, rotated it, doubled the width and made sure the image was centered. I put together a pack of 8 abstract wallpapers if anyone is interested.

There is an app called wallpaper wizardii it does something so you don't have to crop the image to fit the screen I used it on my galaxy tab 10.1 might be worth giving a shot on here

Adw has scrolling wallpapers, you have to activate the wallpaper scroll hack under advanced settings.
I'm gonna get this ball rolling...i want to see more pictures instead of links...

Hi
I've seen a few threads regarding dpi. But aside from aesthetics in the way of smaller icons and what not does lower the dpi have any effect on battery life?
And is there any way to change the ppi on the display like we can do on computers with resolutions? I'd like to have 320 ppi because anything beyond that I won't even be able to tell the difference.
It doesn't affect battery life at all. It just changes the sizes of things.
And no, you can't change the ppi, it is a fact of the hardware. And 'changing' the resolution on a computer is like changing the dpi on the phone.

What he is saying is that if you lower the resolution (like on a pc for example from 1920x1080 to 1440x900 it will cause the desktop to stretch therefor causing this images to get bigger)
A lower DPI is like increasing the resolution, all of the icons and layouts will get smaller, fitting more on a screen, but doing so will not enable you to fit more icons on the home-screen unless you use a custom launcher where you can change the grid size.
