[Q] (Q) problem with bluetooth audio - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

okay, i just picked up an atrix for free and i am giving it a try to decide between it or my inspire ...
a major issue for me though is this problem i discovered... i listen to audio books while driving back and forth to work ... i use mortplayer (but have tried other audio programs and gotten same results) ...
if i am playing the audio on the phones speaker or through headphones that are plugged in everything is okay .. but if i connect to a bluetooth audio source it will 'skip' .. about every second or second and a half it skips a very short part of the audio ... just enough to distort works and make what it is saying not understandable ...
i have searched a little bit and not ran into this mentioned (or my searching skill is worse then i thought) so i am posting this thread up in hopes that someone else may know more about this ...
for a little more information ... the audio files this is happening on are 20 min long mp3 audio ... have tried it on just normal music as well in mp3 format and get similiar results.

I was using the following all last week while travelling, and the audio was great. $50 on Newegg:
Motorola S9-HD
I was getting about 3 hours from full charge, and was using PlayerPro which I have found to be the best for my personal use out of all the players.
<edit> The built in mic also works well for phone calls. My wife could hear me clearly when using it.

i will check out player pro .. i already have bluetooths tho .. built into my car and several blue ants and jawbones ... which it does the same with all of them including the one built into car.

Also check the audio player settings to make sure there isn't an output setting which needs to be changed. It appears some people are having major problems with conflicts between their car audio controls and the music player audio controls. Sometimes the players controls tried to override the car audio controls.

ok with player pro i still have the issue though it is less .. now i only get it for a few seconds then it plays normally ... it seems to be related to it caching the audio while playing.

I returned a pair of HT820's (Warranty) and got the S9-HD's back from moto... they have great sound, but their range is SOME OF THE WORST. I can't walk and listen to music without it cutting out.
I imagine it is most likely a problem with the receiver, not the source. Does the audio buffer or does it just skip?

it skips about a half a second or a quarter of a second of audio ... just enough to change the words being said.

Same here. I am new to bluetooth for audio, and have a pair of S9 HD's. They worked all morning and then skipped all afternoon. Is that a sign of low battery? Also, what range can I expect?

I've heard reports of fake s9s... but mine came from moto... seems hit and miss. Moto tech support is some of the worst, took two weeks to get an rma!

Probably so. The battery life is only 2-1/2 - 3 hours on those from all the reading I did about them before I bought them. Also, turn on the SRS WoW on the headphones. It makes a huge difference to the audio imo.

The price is a good indication of cheap the Chinese imitations. If you purchase the OEM bulk Moto version they are $50 and up from reputable sellers such as Newegg, etc. If it's the cheap knock off versions, they can be had for $15-$20 on Ebay.

I mean I got mine from motorola's Rma center. My ht820s went in for warranty and I got these.
I've noticed some better use now with my atrix than my previous nokia 3600 slide. But its still not like my HT820s. Those things were big, but had like 15 hour battery life, and whole house range. Fit perfect around the neck.
I paid about 45 bucks for the ht820 on amazon (best purchase ever), but the volume would not go down after a year. Sent them in and Got s9hd back (they don't even look the same! Moto customer serivce must hate their customers)... good sound, but not enough to justify changing.

Bluetooth to AUX ?

Anyone have any good solutions? I am trying to find some, but coming up with older outdated results.
I basically want a bluetooth receiver that I can plug into my AUX input of my car. This being used for music, GPS and calls. I would also like something that can keep power through the car lighter if possible.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Just wanted to warn people there are two versions of this. The BTAXS and BTAXM. On Ebay you'll see both and the M is cheaper, but that one only does bluetooth calling no a2dp stereo. So you want to buy the BTAXS.

Their English is pretty bad but from the part of the description I can make out it sounds like a A2DP receiver, so it should work.
Just so you know, amazon has this a bit cheaper. I think amazon can be trusted more than ebay imho.
Can't post a link but just search for "B0036ORN2U" on amazon and you'll find it.

Quick update, I received my Scosche motorMOUTH II Stereo from the ebay I linked. I received it the day after I placed the order. It works great, sounds great. People can tell I'm on speakerphone but they understand me fine. The only con is that you can't charge it while using it. it usually prevents you, but I was able to get it to charge while running, the problem is that you will get the weird feedback sound from the car lighter through aux cable.... Not sure how to explain it.

That's a ground loop. Google ground loop isolator or ground loop filter.
The one I have looks exactly like the PAC SNI-1/3.5 or the PGLI35 (just google those terms) and it works very well - don't pay over $15, I think I paid less than $10 three years ago. It looks like the Kensington Noise Reducing Car Audio AUX Cable has it built-in if you need something longer.
I got this one for $32 at tmobile store with the 50% off coupon. Its a headset that comes with an adaptor to plug a 3.5mm audio jack and a stereo headset.

Yes. Under each bluetooth device you pair to on your phone you can select whether it's used for music, calls, or both; and you can pair with two devices simultaneously. I do this successfully all the time with my Kensington Liquid Aux (for music in the car, does calls too but the mic is crappy) and a cheap BT headset from LG.
It's a shame that Kensington unit is hard to find now, the remote it comes is SUPER handy and it's something I haven't seen included with any other BT bridge. I attached the remote to my Civic's steering wheel and it literally looks stock.
Another good bridge for music only is the BluBridge mini-jack Rx, battery lasts a long time and you can power it with any USB car charger, really good range too. I got one last year and liked it so much I got a second during Christmas to give away as a gift. I use it at home or during small get-togethers so I can stream to any stereo or set of portable speakers.
Ive been using this one http://cgi.ebay.com/IOGEAR-Bluetooth-Wireless-Audio-Transport-Headset-NEW-/150443532234?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2307221fca
Not trying to be rude or anything but why use bluetooth?
Why not just plug your phone directly into the Aux?
I have one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001DDE4VY/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/175-8678155-4748113
And it works well. It's expensive....and it doesn't plug into your Audi port.....and the Mic isn't built in ....the Mic comes with it, you have to plug it in and clip it on to your shirt. The satechi device works real well though.

headphone static

when switching songs on my rezound, ill hear static through the head phones
and while listening to music the left one will make a popping noise almost, and sound as if the music is only coming in at about 75% volume
thoughts? maybe a defect model
same here. when i have an app open for music/movies but nothing's playing/paused, then there's this noise....
it's especially bad when connected via AUX to my car stereo... it also happens while music is playing but only if the music is at a low volume.
i have been using the headphones on my laptop & it doesn't happen then.. only with the phone. and it even happens when i try out different headphones on the phone.
thank you HTC for another p.o.s. device.
See the post below. Probably the same issue.

[Q] bluetooth audio streaming problem?

so i just got my htc rezound like 2 days ago and so far its wonderful (coming from a droid razr). the only stipulation im having is streaming audio via bluetooth to my car's stereo system (ford fusion with sync system). it sounds really crappy using the standard player htc gives you, but if you switch to amazon mp3's player it sounds good except for certain pitches and frequencies sound like crap. it almost sounds like crackling but not quite. gives it good bass back tho. so is there a way to fix this? i did unlock my phone like 4 hrs after getting it from the fedex guy. is there anything i can do to it go improve on the audio quality or is this gonna be a "wait for ICS and see" kinda deal?
Try PowerAmp or install a rom with DSP so you can tweak the audio settings.

k will give it a shot later tonight when i leave for work. i honestly dont think it has anything to do with the eq but i'll try it. i think its something with the bluetooth radio thats built in....maybe its just a crappy design idk.
any other ideas in the mean time? or anyone else having the same issue?
Never heard of this problem with differences between players.
Stream all day with my phone and only problems are with ICS not GB.
I have a Ford Focus (with sync) and mine sounds pretty good, but not as good as when I had full time beats on my EVO3D. They only thing I do is turn the volume up on the phone while its playing through the speakers. I do this but using the volume rocker on the side during playback. Its not as good as a CD but not too bad either. Tried to get the guy that fixed it on the 3D to look at the Rezound but he never responded to my PM. I have played with DSP Manager and you can get some improvement. Also other EQs exist in the market that can improve the quality.
<3 ford focus, are you saying it just lacks an equalizer's touch or does it crackle? =o
No Problem
I use the MotoROKR T505 for my car. Bluetooth stereo music over the car speakers is never a problem, regardless of using stock player, meridian, or poweramp.
Zone is right. Turn the volume all the way up. It took me awhile to figure this out. I think its radio interference that you're hearing.
Sent from my ZTPAD ZT-282 (Slatedroid Market Script) using xda premium
well i tried poweramp from the market and it made some improvement...but still not as crisp as i'd like. it seems like with some of the higher frequencies over bluetooth it kind of mashes them together sort of. idk but coming from a droid razr i can definitely tell a difference. that phone was amazing when it came to audio quality over bluetooth. for now i guess i'll try to rig up the usb cord so my sync system can read the files from my phone or either buy a cheep aux input cord for my ford....until ICS is released....hopefully they made some type of improvement.
edit: i always have the volume maxed out via the rocker on the side....learned that day 1 of having an ipod long ago lol. the droid razr definitely puts out cd quality audio over bluetooth and i was kind of expecting this phone to do the same or better, not sub-par performance.
I wonder if that is the razr's 4.0 bluetooth that provided so

Crackling audio

I have noticed that the audio crackles when using the stock music player as well as the google play. This happens both through the speaker and multiple headsets. It also occurs also whether playing from a file stored locally or when streaming. It is most noticable when listening to a talk show since there are pauses of sllence which make the crackling stand out. It is not near as noticable when using the poweramp app. It is not the same issue as mentioned in the "Official Sound Quality" topic in the International Galaxy S3 forum since this occurs whether the screen is on or off. Has anyone else noticed this?

How?
I'm getting crackling sound from the internal speaker when I use Gallery to play a video.
Also getting crackling from my left front tweeter when I use bluetooth in my car. I don't get it when I use the 3.5mm audio jack though. Nor does it come from any other speakers in the car.
And getting cracling from internal speaker while using Jango.
Don't get it while using iHeart though.
I am having the exact same issue as mentioned in the OP. I posted a thread in Q&A and no one else mentioned having the same problem.

When connected to car's stereo via bluetooth ... it crackles/cracks/pops/chips after every 5 - 10 seconds. I tried playing different audio files - same results. Play video clip - same results. Played youtube video - same results.
When I connected the phone via FM transmitter ... there was no cracking/popping in sound. I will test it again with a 3.5 mm auxiliary jack and update the post.
It looks like its a hardware issue ... however since these phone are not in the stores yet. Its hard to get a replacement handset right now.
Problem is so bad that its impossible to carry on listening to music or podcast ...
Uh oh.
I have a U.S. (Canadian, same thing) model SIII and I have a SQ problem. It only appears at very low volumes but my quieter music sounds like it's passed through a kazoo. This disappears when I turn up the volume. I don't think it's the "crackle" issue I've seen frequently described on other forums, because it occurs continuously when I output audio through the headphone jack, not only when the screen is off. This problem occurs across apps and file formats, including my flawless FLAC collection. I've played the same files back on an iPod touch (320 kbp mp3s) and the iPod has no problems. I'm really, really hoping this isn't a hardware issue, because I've already exchanged 2 S IIIs at the shop I bought it from due to screen issues and the manager's visibly pissed at me for cutting into his margins If it is though, looks like I'll have to face him again... He might even refuse to exchange it :/
Samples:
In the attached .zip, one .wav was recorded from a video played back using the stock video player on the SIII on the lowest volume setting (this problem persists on other player applications).
The other .wav was recorded from an iPod Touch playing back the same video on its stock player, also on a very low volume setting (much more clearly than the SIII).
As you can see (hear), it's terrible on the SIII... any idea what's going on? I think I have the same issue as enaybee. If any of you with SQ issues could check out the samples and see if that's also what you're experiencing it'd be great

I am having the same issues of cracking and popping when using my bluetooth on the preinstalled car system on an 07 gl 320 mercedes. it appears in the "bugs" post re Samsung GS3 about the popping and cracking.
It is horribly annoying and obnoxious. it's so loud at times I can't even hear the other person on the other line.
I'm taking mine back to the VZ corp store I bought it at and going to work with a tech there to see if it's just mine or if it is on a replacement phone as well.
I had an HTC One X that would do this when playing music from Spotify and using a Bluetooth headset. I have not had this with the S3. I imagine that this is a software issue, likely related to Android.
Same issue here
I have the same cracking / popping issue. I spent 1 1/2 hours in a Verizon store last night convincing them there was a problem. I paired my headphones with an in store display and the sound was fine. Had them listen to my Galaxy and they could hear the cracking. The connected one of their headphones to my phone and heard the cracking. Finally, they agreed there is a problem with the phone. Unfortunately, there (apparently) are no white 32gb available anywhere at this time, so I am waiting for a backorder.
Not sure what they were looking at, but they later mentioned (while searching for a replacement device) that they have had other reports of the same problem.
UPDATE: cracking in Bluetooth/not with plug in speaker/headset/installed speaker
Last night contacted Samsung on Chat Tech Support. Their response was they haven't gotten anything listed yet and suggested I call back if the problem persists when data is more prevalent??? Reviewed multiple posts today on different forums. I listened to headphones via the 3.5mm jack, listened to the installed speaker, and no popping/cracking noted. Called my Corp VZ store in Ocala, FL this am and advised of situation so they would hold a 16g white GSIII for me. Arrived at 8p this evening. Had salesperson sit in my vehicle while I made several calls.
The first couple calls while connected to bluetooth there was scant noise. Then I received an incoming call that cracked/popped. The salesperson in his infinite wisdom advised me it sounded like the person was speaking too loud into their mic and that was causing feedback. (SERIOUSLY. I pay to be blonde! I'm a freaking techie! bygones..) Anyway, he said he would call level 2 tech support. After perusing my phone and it's setting I'm sure in an attempt to make sure I haven't rooted yet, which I hadn't, the Level 2 Tech support stated he didn't see any problems like this listed in the database and it's probably a lack of compatibility with the Bluetooth 4.0 and my system, so they would not replace the phone, as it's not their issue.
As my blood started to boil, again them assuming that because I'm female, I don't understand, Uggh!, I tried to control my temper and got stern advising them i've had the px for less than 48 hours. I drive 500 miles a week. I must have hands free communication and this SUCKS! I stated of course your system doesn't show the defect yet. The dang phone just came out. The salesperson witnessed the problem and blew me off. I advised him that I found the posts here on XDA and his response was "People on those forums lie about the problems they're having."
REALLY?????? Now the temper flared. I said "I may be female with blonde hair but have an advanced medical degree, am obviously more tech smart than he is, and advised him he was an idiot. (yes, I know that doesn't get anything accomplished, but it at least made me feel better.) His response was "what would you like me to do. If I give you another phone it may have the same problem." And my reply, "and IT MIGHT NOT!" Again I referred to the other listed people who have a similar issue that wasn't present on other devices. He blew me off. I told him I would have a new phone in my hands by morning and left the store.
On my long drive home I called VZ tech support on my phone, explained the above, and she advised me I had to call back on a different phone. I advised her I've already called Samsung, the factory reset didn't fix it, I'm NOT reseting it again, I unpaired and re-paired the bluetooth, the store person went through the settings already and was blown off by tech support, and that I WANTED to use the phone so she could hear the interference. She put me through to Level 2 Tech Support after she heard the interference as well. Had to explain AGAIN. Well, the tech noted my account and I should be getting a new px in the am at a different corporate store under the 14 day warranty for a new phone. Will keep you posted on the results.
Other than this bluetooth issue, the phone is awesome. Have not had any other glitches. But if this persists, it's a bust. Have to have bluetooth that works!

Problem with head phone jack?

I can not get a good sound no matter what I do. I have always used power amp and never had a problem with sound. With my epic I always ran music thru my car stereo and it rocked. With this phone I got so mad today at how bad it sounded I just turned off.
I have tried every adjustment I could but no dice. It just sounds distorted no matter what I do. Do u think I have a defective one? Like I said my epic would rock and sounded so good so u would think this phone being the 3rd generation it would be better in sound quality also. I have tried the stock player to and it sounds worse.
Edit: forgot to mention I also had beats flashed onto the epic too.

Try the app from the play store called Volume+. I've used it only to modify the external speaker for better quality on other devices, but there are options to modify sound for the in call speaker & headset also. You'll want to select headset obviously as it just refers to audio out via the 3.5mm jack. I hope this helps you & your able to adjust the audio profile for better quality, as I've had success with this app, but I haven't used it on the gs3 yet?

Ok, well there are other apps if you google search or search the play store & also look at the roms in your dev section & I will almost guarantee one of them has dsp manager or some sort of audio equalizer app included.
Now the buzzing noise is 95% one of two things. 1) The auxiliary outlet in your car stereo has an issue or it just gets a poor connection, this can happen sometimes in lower end after market head units or for other various reasons I'm sure.2) The auxiliary cable your using is causing it because of a short or because cheaper cables just get a ****ty connection & thus provide ****ty audio quality. Try buying a more expensive one and give it a shot as soon as you get to the parking lot, if the problem persists then you can walk right back in & tell them its not what you needed & get a refund. 3) Your phone has a bad 3.5mm jack. (This is possible, but probably the least likely)
Please report back what your results are after trying these few possible solutions. I think you'll have a viable fix here soon. I hope this helps out.
It's not a cheap deck lol it's Pioneer. The buzzing does it with the stock head phones and my after market jvc earbuds.
If I turn the volume up (headphones) halfway it's starts to sound distorted. With my epic I could rock the volume the whole way up with out any distortion.
I'm starting to wonder if it's the Jack. It's bad lol

I would take it back to Sprint it sounds like there is something wrong with the phone. Unless its the MP3 you are listening to is bad quality.
Edit:
Looks like there is a bug with some phones http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778451

That really sucks if its the jack, just because you have to set everything up again. I wasnt aware there was a known issue with the jack, but I hope your able to at leastget a working one. Good Luck
