Hi I have no Market to install any applications,it won't install anything through a PC connection and it's in a factory reset state. I did a lot of research and tried to re-install the vending.apk file which controls it through an adb command prompt but it then fails on the permissions. I have rooted the phone but at the moment is useless because I cant get it to install any other rooted applications! Can anyone help me solve my dilemma. I'm not very good when it comes to programming and coding and have learned all I know from forums. So at the moment all my Dell Streak is an oversized mobile phone! Regards, Tris.
You rooted the phone. Did you delete the Market.apk by accident?
In any event, you should be able to get the Market.apk file here. Save it to your MicroSD card and then run it using a file explorer. That should fix your Market problem in the interim, although you would probably do better restoring your ROM.
Tried to install that used 'Astro' all was well but when I run the market it says it stopped unexpectedly and asks me to force close.
Been trying to Restore Rom using this method, only problem is I cant find the fastboot-windows.exe to continue the flash:-
HOW TO RESTORE YOUR STREAK BACK TO FACTORY CONDITION:
1. Download the stock recovery ROM here and the stock official Dell ROM here.
2. Rename the stock official Dell ROM 'Update.pkg' and put it in the root directory on your SD card.
3. Boot Streak in fastboot mode (hold camera button when turning on), press 'Fastboot Mode' button, wait 10 seconds then connect to your PC (must have Dell PC suite installed).
4. Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder where your 'fastboot-windows.exe' is stored.
5. Type 'fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img' . Make sure the .img file is in c:\ directory. The program will now update the recovery image on your Streak.
6. Once the phone reads 'Recovery Done', remove the battery and insert it again.
7. Boot Streak in Recovery mode (hold down vol up and vol down when turning on) and select option 2.
5. Wait till it installs and it'll boot into Android....DONE!
Any ideas why it now force closes and where that fastboot file should come from?
Thanks again.
Questions:
1. You've rooted your streak. What recovery image did you use?
2. Did you go to /system/etc and change "install-recovery.sh" to "install-recovery.sh.bak"?
While the first question is mainly for curiosity, the second question is very important. It tells me whether the recovery image in question 1 actually stuck around or was replaced by the default recovery image.
For best results, look for multi-recovery flasher in the development forum and use that to restore a default recovery image to the Streak instead of doing it manually. It includes all the files you need, including the fastboot file. After that, go to the wiki and download an official ROM image from there.
I have no idea what is causing the force closes, and that is why I'm recommending starting fresh from a stock ROM in the first place.
Thanks for your help, managed to get the job done. All that stuff wasn't necessary but appreciate the quick reply.
First I managed to download a Stock Dell o2-UK 2.2 Rom form the Dell website Here:- http: //cot.ag/fKoFRX
Then I followed another guide I found by changing the filename to 'update.pkg', putting it on the SD cards Root directory and booting into recovery Mode (Hold down both Volume buttons while powering on) selected the install form SD option and just let it do its work! Buzzing!!!
At least I can do this again in the future if things go wrong once more(I HOPE NOT)!! I can't help myself you see,i'm one of those people where the last thing I did just isn't enough!
Once again thanks for the help and maybe I hope this could help someone else who needs a jargon free solution to a fresh stock install.Tris.
In simpler language, your recovery image was a stock one, so you only had to follow the Dell standard procedure for replacing the ROM.
P. S. Use the thanks button if I was of help.

Put the Stock Streak Rom in root of your SD Card. Rename it to "Update.pkg"
Install first the stock Dell Recovery attached here (unzip it first) via Fastboot "fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery dellstock_recovery.img"
then reboot "fastboot -i 0x413c reboot"
When the screen turns off, press vol up & vol down for entering recovery
then press the camera button to confirm update (second option from the top)
after few seconds the stock recovery will ask you if you want to proceed the update - > press the camera button and voila, you´ve done!
Info: Your clockwork recovery will be gone, since you have flashed the stock one. To get the clockwork recovery install it after you successfully installed the stock streak rom

I appreciate the help, perfect and fast, follow these same steps above but still black screen (I guess dellstock_recovery was not valid).
Thanks for the valuable help and quick response.
When exactly you get stuck on black screen? after you confirm the second option from the top in recovery?
What is your Build-Nr. (Stock Rom) 318? 319? The recovery.img attached here works flawless with 318, i din´t tried it with other builds... maybe you should search for the stock recovery which fits your build of stock rom...

Moving to General
I have exactly the same problem. I'm a newbie with android rom flashing. I can enter fastboot mode by pressing the camera key while powering on. I then connect it to the computer and the phone says "fastboot mode". After that, this is what I do:
Open command prompt
type adb devices (i've added the path of adb in the system variables so i can access it from everywhere)
it tries to look for devices but cant find my streak
I type the fastboot command that you talked about (i have unzipped the image file etc), but it cannot find the command.
What am I missing here?
The reason I want to go back to stock rom is because StreakDroid doesn't work on my mobile and Cyanogen's GingerStreak mod 7 works only for a few hours and then restarts my mobile every 10-15 minutes and doesn't detect the headphone connection either. All I wanted was superuser access in stock rom but installing superuser bricked my phone and now I've tried using custom roms but want my stock rom back.
@Moderators: If you move the thread to some place else, can you please post a link to that thread? It's very difficult to find the continuation of the tread without a link. Thanks anyway.
peaple.. tks for all
Going back to the Stock ROM
I've resolved my problem. I think there needs to be more clarity on how to go back to Dell Stock ROM
Dunno if it's required but I had ADB path set in my system.
To Download:
Dell Stock ROM (find the rom. I found it somewhere and now i've got so many roms on my computer, i don't know which one's the correct one. You can find Eclair floating around somewhere) Found the package, it's 1.6. You can update it to the latest version through DELL later. http://www.MegaShare.com/3295716
Dell Stock Recovery (for fast boot stuff) http://www.MegaShare.com/3295642
Process:
Rename the Dell Stock Rom to update.pkg
Copy it to the root of the sd card. You might need a micro-sd card reader if your mobile is bricked. Any other mobile with a micro-sd card reader will work too.
Turn off your bricked mobile, if it's on. If you can't, then just take out the battery.
Press and hold down the camera button and then click the power button. Don't release the camera button until you see a white screen
Select Fast boot mode on the top right on your mobile
Now connect your mobile to the computer
You will notice that it says Fast boot mode on your mobile
Now on the computer, unzip the stock recovery into a folder.
open command prompt (XP=Start\run\cmd, Win7=type cmd in the text box and hit enter)
Navigate to the path where you unzipped the recovery file (cd is the basic command you need. If you don't know dos commands, then you shouldn't be rooting in the first place)
type 'fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery dellstock_recovery.img' without the quotes and hit enter
type 'fastboot -i 0x413c reboot' without the quotes and hit enter.
unplug the mobile from the computer, grab a beer, sit back and relax while your mobile get's unrooted.
I've searched everywhere and I can't find conclusive information on how to "fastboot a recovery image"
I'm sure i could do it if there was a how to, but I can't seem to find any?
please help!
P.s I know how to get into fastboot on my streak but I dont know what all the numbers mean on the screen or where I go from there to install the recovery from the sd card.
i was!!
hehe...we all were at first....worried bout bricking our lovely toys and trying to filter all the posts n posts n post..
have you seen this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000455
seems to be a fully automated process
So if I am correct, this will let me flash a recovery so that I can install Streakdroid yes?
to install a streakdroid rom you will have to ignore my previous comment as the are for stock recovery. you will need to flash over clockwork or, the more streak compatible streakmod.
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
^^^ the post on flashing streakmod to enable flashing zip packages
2. To stop the stock recovery overwritting the recovery you should do:
Rename --- "etc/install-recovery.sh" . (just add ".bak" to stop the system using install-recovery.sh"
Im still slightly retarded but hope this clarifies things
oh....btw... i struggled with the fastboot command.. but found out the full proper command is "fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
"
i.e. 0.x413c must be added so the fastboot command knows what device its talking to..
(Hope this has been useful....had so much fun learning in these forums at XDA would be nice if i could help people in return - IM A RETARD TOO!)
Ok, The thing is, I read through all of that but something is missing.
At what stage do I type things? whats the process for that?
and where exactly do I rename this file?
I know the steps before and after - I'm missing the bit in between here.
k...let me see if i can clarify..
reread the instructions....to make is easier and automated for u, i would suggest the following..(although i did it the manual way this should be painless!!)
1. ensure you have the latest dell drivers installed and that in the device manger you have your Android Composite ADB device up n running.
2. from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000455 download the MultiRecoveryFlasher v.0.3 and the bat file too.
extract to say C:\
(copy the extracted bat file into the same directory.
3. with power off, turn on streak hold the camera button and then the power button together until you get to the white screen, then select fastboot...
4. now double click that bat file in your directory and option 7, and wait 10 secs
5. now connect your streak usb cable to the pc
it should install the latest streakmod automatically for you....
6. when successful run, using the bat file select option 9 to reboot the phone (takes a few seconds for it to happen)
7. exit the bat file.....finished with pc
8. when streak has booted to normal...using root explorer navigate to the folder "system/etc/" and locate file "install-recovery.sh" long press on that file and rename.....rename to install-recovery.sh.bak (by just adding .bak)
9. power off phone and once again boot into fastboot as per 3. to ensure you still have streakmod.....if all is well you can then go ahead and flash your zip from sd card roms.
10. if you get the stock recovery option already overwritten the streakmod just repeat steps above 3-7..
as i said i did it the manual way...but im sure that following these steps using the uksheep's programme you will find it painless........
let me know if it worked or if im still a superdelux, mark1, grade A duffer (was hoping to be grade B by now lololo)
edit...you are rooted??? download root explorer pro...its on the net....tap the R/W button to enable renaming of system files first...be careful!!...also you boot into recovery by holding both volume buttons AND th epower button until you get the four options menu. You have to select option 2 whic will take you to the streakmod (you will see dell symbols..press power button again when you do to access streakmod functions..
megacamz....have you read the pdf here....

?? its a very good read and shows how to use fastboot and where to get the fastboot directory from..radders brilliant guide
I'm very new to the whole flashing rom thing. I've tried an unknown amount of times to access clockwork recovery however continued to come to either stock recovery or black screen. I am becoming very frustrated with this whole process. Someone please help me with this.
The Streak overwrites custom recovery files, and that is why you're not seeing the custom recovery you installed. There is a way to stop this which involves renaming etc\install-recovery.sh to etc\install-recovery.sh.bak. I used SuperManager from the Market to do the job, since it can write to the system.
I can provide a more detailed how-to later, but in short, I installed streakmod recovery, rebooted, installed and ran SuperManager to change the file mentioned above, then installed streakmod recovery a second time in case I wanted to flash custom updates to files.
downloaded supermanager however still not entirely sure as what to do. if you are able further help me it would be greatly appreciated. this has become a significantly long process. thank you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13603833&postcount=200
completed the task listed above. thank you for the required steps. however... using clockwork brings me to a black screen. you mentioned using streakmod? that will require fastboot right? I don't know how to use fastboot, like I can get to fastboot just not sure what to do from there. and on top of that no driver will properly install on my computer from the device for some reason, including android 1.0 and dell streak driver. what should I do now? thanks again for everything.
Flashing Streakmod will require getting into fastboot, yes. However you do not install drivers from the Streak. They areinstalled from the computer.
1a. Download ADB Tethering Drivers from here.
1b. Download Superuser and copy it to the root of the MicroSD card.
2. Download multirecovery flasher from here and extract the files to a directory, C:\Streak for example.
3. Run multirecovery flasher after reading up on how to use it, and select Streakmod Recovery.
4. Enter Fastboot mode on the Streak by holding down the camera button while turning the Streak on.
5. On the white screen that shows up following step 4, tap "Fastboot".
7. Wait for the response screen, which should say "Wait for USB FastBoot detect...".
8. Plug the data cable into the Streak, and watch the screen change to "FASTBOOT_MODE" in response.
9. The recovery image will very quickly load.
10. Hold down the volume up and down buttons then unplug the data cable. Continue holding down the buttons until you successfully get into Streakmod Recovery. From there you should be able to root the phone by installing Superuser from the "Install Update.zip" option in Streakmod Recovery.
11. Reboot.
12. If you want Streakmod Recovery to stick around, you'll need to follow the how to I provided earlier in the thread, then repeat steps 3-9 in this how to so Streakmod Recovery is reinstalled, since it was overwritten when you rebooted in step 11.
Now, you may encounter a problem at step 8, where the Streak does not show "FASTBOOT_MODE" but is stuck at "Wait for USB FastBoot detect...". This is where the ADB Tethering Driver I provided a link to comes into play.
1. Unzip the ADB Tethering Drivers into a directory.
2a. If running Windows XP, select "Run" and in the dialog box that pops up type "devmgmt.msc".
2b. If running windows Vista or Windows 7, in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu, type "device manager" and hit enter.
3. In the device manager should be an item labeled "Android 1.0".
4. Right click "Android 1.0" and select "Update Driver Software".
5. Select "Browse my computer for driver software".
6. Click on "Browse" and navigate to the directory where the ADB Tethering Driver is located.
7. Click "Next" to install the driver.
8. If a prompt comes up saying the driver is not digitally signed, ignore the prompt and install the driver anyway.
9. Re-run the how-to above.
Hopefully this helps, because this is exactly how I had to do it myself, including installing the driver.
Followed to a T and still have the same results. Black screen when I try to get into Streakmod. You get into SR by doing double volume and then selecting update.pkg right?
EDIT: fixed. I was trying to flash from 1.6 O2 recovery. Needed to update to 2.1 O2 to make it work. Thanks
Since this thread is here I hope someone can solve my similar problem. I am trying to install a zip file.
I want to run Clockwork mod recovery mode but when I try it just reboots as normal. I have tried following the instructions by renaming the recovery-install file. But nothing has happened. I am on o2 stock 2.2 is there another option available to me or will I have to go down the Fastboot method?( Which I don't fancy trying to get my head round!)
You need to go into fastboot in order to flash the recovery from your computer. Did you do that?
Turn phone off, hold camera button, turn phone off, wait 20 seconds, connect phone, run multi recovery flasher to install streakmod, reboot. Hold volume buttons when phone restarts, then press power on the blank screen to bring up streakmod.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

Hmm...I didn't want to hear that but I guess I'll have to give it a go.
I was hoping that I could just do it from running Recovery Mode from Rom Manager without the fuss of messing with Fastboot mode. I've read too many scary stories of things going wrong. If everything goes to plan then I may as well consider trying to install 2.2.2.
Thanks mate.Have a +1 on me!
this was very simple to do once figured it out. streakdroid is running very well. I would like to thank everyone here for the help.
Hi everyone
I got the AC100 and tried to root it and install the Gapps (i needed Gmail and Calendar).
I messed around with the adb from Google SDK and i erased the files from "system/apps" by accident
so the device now got stuck on the startup screen (the android logo keeps flashing once per second)
I searched the web alot and found instructions on how to enter recovery mode
so know i have the ac100 conected via USB to my XP machine, and i have installed the nVidia USB recovery driver
(it showed up as APX in the Device Manager once i turned on the recovery mode).
I can get to the restore screen (holding HOME while powering up) and i've tried a few "update.zip" files on a SD card, but i get the exclamation mark in the triangle as soon as i hit "1 - update" and then the device resets.
I have NVFlash downloaded and it sees the device (nvflash --sync displays info the way it should)
Can anyone please help with instructions on how to get my notebook working again?
I'll be pleased with the stock Android, i'd be happy with Cyanogen Mod.
Please help.
Thank you.
PS. sorry if it's the wrong thread, but as i've read the Folio and AC100 are pretty similar.
best option is to just push the relevant partition images using nvflash, no need to use recovery. If you have an update.zip, that should have the files you need. Have a look at the wet-paint wiki or ask on #ac100
Thanks for the reply
I do have an update.zip, but i'm not quite sure how to push it with nvflash.
I've search alot around the forums but haven't found anyone with a problem like this or i couldn't really understant the steps (in some cases, one of the steps was "push the file to the device with nvflash" but i'm quite a beginner and i would need more detailed info.
I'll try the IRC # as well but if anyone can post here a method, i'd be really glad.
Thanks
UPDATE:
Ok, with the help of some people over on #ac100, i managed to download part8.img to partition 8 (which was the apps partition) but now the devices freezes on the TOSHIBA logo screen.
Any advice?
Good news
I finally got it to run. I used the backup partition imgs i found (along with the partition table txt) and rewrote all the partitions with NVFLASH using the rawdevicewrite method described here:
tosh-ac100.wetpaint.com/page/Backup+and+Restore
It's back to stock android right now.
I'll look into installing Gmail and Gtalk later on and MUCH MORE careful
If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.
Happened to me too
Hi there, I had the same problem that yours and I have solved it this way:
Prerequisites:
Tegra2 Drivers 2 abailable
Android SDK in your system
A working ROM (folio mod for example)
How to:
Extract update.zip to a known folder
Power on the folio.
When see toshiba's logo push power button 3 times and then Volume UP
Connect to the computer
Move to android sdk tools (using CMD)
type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (maybe a route is requiered for last one)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
put the full update.zip file into SD and do a normal update
I hope this helps.
thanks metuskale
i got my to work as well
cheers
I tried to root my me302kl by following the first post described in this thread, but it seems I've bricked my tablet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601837
I have the LTE version, unlocked the bootloader using the apk from Asus, and followed the fastboot method in the first post, and now I'm stuck at the Asus logo on startup. I'm trying to factory reset by using the update download from the Asus website, but when i try
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash update US_ME302C-V4.7.3-0-ota-user.zip
it fails with this:
writing 'update'...
FAILED (remote: partition table doesn't exist)
Then I tried following perpe's advice but both methods did not work
Download the update zip for your device and sku from ASUS. Unpack it once, there should be a second zip, try to flash it with
fastboot update name-of-your.zip
if this doesn't wotk, then copy the update zip to an external sd card. Your sd card should be formated in far32. Place the card into the tablets sd card. Press Volume UP + Power to boot it into the bootloader, it should flash it automatically, if not look if yor bootloader has a menu entry "sd download..." select it with the volume keys and power.

When booting into recovery mode, I get the dead android robot icon, regardless of whether the .zip file is on the SD card or not. I've also tried making a system.img file out of the system folder from the extracted zip file and flashing that with fastboot flash system system.img and fastboot flash boot boot.img, but that didn't work either.
Any kind soul have advice on how to make use of the official Asus OTA .zip file, or perhaps be able to supply some .img backups for me to make use of?
EDIT
Found out that to get the recovery menu to show up, you have to hold the power button and press volume up. I thought that the menu would show up automatically so I got confused. ADB sideloaded the Asus OTA .zip and everything is back to normal

download the OTA zip from the asus website
unzip once, you should have another zip
power on the tablet while holding volume up to boot into recovery mode
after the android robot shows up, hold volume up and press the power button to get the recovery menu to show
install the zip using adb sideload
using adb sideload will differ depending on what OS you're using. you can google to find out more specific instructions for that because it's a little more work to get it for windows. for OSX if you have homebrew, you can just 'brew install android' and it will install all the android tools for you.
once you have adb installed, in the terminal type 'adb sideload pathname_of_zip.zip' and it will restore your device to factory settings
I had the same problem and your trick saved me from sending it back. I am not sure if i would have send it back as I have yet to brick something since I am playing with android back in the days of Viewsonic gtablet. We are stuck with 4.2.

You have to download adb or android sdk, or google how to install adb. Once you have installed the adb, hold the power button, and either Volume UP or down to put tablet into bootlfash recovery mode. Once you have it in recovery mode, push volume up or down to get into true recovery mode.
There you would see adb sideload.
Download US or WWW files from Asus website, and unzip the file into ADB directory or whatever path. then type adb sideload name of the file.
Please read the 1st post by OP on this thread twice or three times, and it tells you how to get your tablet back from brink.

Got it. Done! the tablet is running again, but I encounter another issue
I have no permission to write internal sd.
I cant touch internal, some apps that require writing don't work (play store, camera, etc) I cant root, unlock or do anything that require w permissions.
Any way to fix that?
Or I have to wait for a CWM and rom image ?

You can download king's root or something which is a window app, and it does give your tablet root. I am not exactly sure about the name, but would let you know once I have access to my laptop.
