hi everyone i just flashed with devoid.franco.
and then i flashed the apps2sd by dark tremor.
i made a 1024 mb ext partition.
the thing that i would like to know is how apps2sd works.
does it by default install the apps in ext partition??
or do i need to enter some commands in the terminal!!!
I'd like to know too.
I installed it according to the instructions, but it would be nice to have some way to know if it's being actually used...
i read somewhere that a person had to make his own custom rom to make it work..!!

Hi everyone,
I have root and the latest Modaco ROM which I'm well please with. However, I would like to be able to store apps on my SD card, am I right in thinking the latest ROM is embedded with this facility? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Am a Noobie, go easy with me.
Cheers
The Modaco Custom Rom (MCR 2.0) has inbuilt Auto Aps2SD, but it requires you to create an EXT3 Linux partition on your SD Card before you flash the Rom
There's an easy walkthrough here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4416361&postcount=117 with some methods of creating EXT3 Partition.

Thanks Dazy
Assuming to get to this stage I've already flashed the ROM.
I don't mean to be thick but when you say "before you flash the Rom" does that mean I need to reflash my ROM?
cheers
of course theres also the opportunity to have apps2sd (a2sd) without that modaco rom (fortunately)
just search a lil bit via google for a2sd and use the help Dayzee provided, thats really very easy!
greetz
thanks, i'll give it a shot
oh..........I am already using the new custom ROM which has the apps2sd inbuilt?
Hello there
I'm reading here around the whole time about the things about rooting, custom roms and stuff. Since i've come yesterday to the Problem that
i've installed to much Applications and now have an 8 GB microSD Class 6 i wanted to put my Applications with App2SD onto my SD-Card.
As you might fear i want to ask how it will work, i've only found on the cdma-hero Section an how-to but since i have a gsm-hero i do not
want to brick it
Here are some Information about my Hero:
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband-Version: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel: 2.6.27-mck-teknologist-1.91 [email protected]
Build-Number: 2.73.405.5 146733 CL#61267 release-keys
Software-V: 1.0.0.A6288
i've already partitionated (is this the right spelling? Oo) my sd-Card with the RA-hero-1.5.3.1 Recovery IMG with the following Options:
swap: 512 MB
ext2: 512 MB
fat32 the rest of my 8 GB
After moving the apps and dalvik cache to sd i saw that i didn't had any applications so i have pulled out my nandroid backup which i made
before and now i have them back. And after that i've updated my RA-Hero REcovery Image to 1.6.2.
So how do i get App2SD working without installing a custom Rom?
Best Regards
Seelbreaker
Can I ask why you do not want to use a custom ROM?
What I suggest is you use MCR 3.2 using the link in my signature. Its very close to a stock ROM with a few tweaks for speed and stability.
And seeing that you already have the Amon Ra recovery it wont be difficult or time consuming.
Look up Titanium backup if you dont know what it is, use it to back up your apps and stuff to transfer onto MCR.
Found this... [Android] Apps2SD version 2.5... by doing a quick search, I think you would be able to put that on a pre-rooted stock ROM. You can get them from MoDaCo's Stock ROMs + radios in update.zip format for GSM Hero
Have a look around XDA for that APPS2SD application as you have to register at that other place for it.
Thank you ddotpatel for your response!
Well im just happy with the stock rom which i currently have and so far i didn't had any ambitions to use a custom rom. I've searched here around and found only app2sd in the hero-CDMA section:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670087&highlight=app2sd
currently trying to register on the page which gives the app2sd but the registration hates trash-mails -.-
I'm not sure but if I remember well, I had to put 0 MB for the swap

Indeed you are correct, swap should be 0 mb.
That Apps2SD *SHOULD* work on one of the pre-rooted stock ROMs but I cant be sure.
It does say
A2SD will not work on stock HTC Rom as stock roms do not have any method of launching A2SD in the boot image. Try one of the many custom roms available if you want to use A2SD.
but I think if you install one of the stock ROM update.zips through Amon-Ra it should be ok.
I dont really know. Sorry.
well then i have only 1 option waiting till 2.1 is out so that the devs could get the best out of the custom roms
Im making this thread because I havent seen any other threads with the similar topic, maybe some more advanced users can spread there knowledge around about a2sd scripts or the like.....Ill share my experiences
Recently I wanted to give the new rom by neko95 (Razr-UI and GTR 6.0)....With Razr UI, I flashed the rom than went directly into recovery, partitioned the sdcard for 512mb and 32mb swap size, than for safety precautions, I rebooted into recovery and went ahead with flashing darktremor a2sd script, than I rebooted again....It took some time b4 it booted up but once it did, everything started force-closing, the entire UI was force-closing. I than tried once more with a clean wipe on everything, fresh install of the rom, re-partitioned the sdcard and attempted with using Ungaze, this time it never booted to UI, it just continued to bootloop with sound.....
I generally use S2E, as I feel it's moving everything to sdcard and free's up my phone internal space and allows for maximum applications, occasionally I will use ungaze and in which case I use Link2SD.Ive also used A2SDGUI as well when using Darktremors a2sd script...
Could some explain in detail what ext2/3/4 might be, which is better to use...I know by default Cyanogenmod Recovery use's ext3 or ext4 while amonra uses ext2....For these roms that have a2sd scripts already, what is the correct procedure on how to use these scripts ? Maybe an user could give some detailed explanations as to what a2sd scripts are, and how to use them....Which swap size is the best to use, how much would you recommend using if you have a 2/4 or 8gb sized sdcard, which script do you think is better ? Ive never used a rom without wanting to use these a2sd scripts because well the phone's internal storage is so small and after 5 applications installed without scripts it seems to slow the phone down drastically....Let's make this a tutorial from someone who's an expert on a2sd scripts
to add on to what I said, some roms seem to have difficulty with these scripts, maybe it's the user in which case im pretty sure it is, but than again..with OMFGB i was able to use Darktremors with no problems
In such case please help me with link2sd.
I linked all my apps using link2sd but still after sometime my phone memory is full?
But according to link2sd all are in sd.

I wish I could help you but I cant, I dont know enough about a2sd scripts to help anyone....Ive looked everywhere for an answer and cant seem to find it.....I know one of your roms says in changelog that a2sd is included, but im not sure how to use it...S2E is simple, you partition sdcard, flash script (darktremors) than reboot, go back into s2e application select the boxes ( I check em all) than reboot, after the 2nd reboot, everything is moved to sdcard. I dont know much about link2sd, I havent seen a tutorial on that application or anything

i dont use link2sd but i was using in CM9 and something similar apen my memory was full and link2sd said the apps are all in sdext but they werent only some files so i link all again and voila... try it ...
and s2e is the best option for cm9 or cm7 ....
Do you know how s2e and a2sdgui are specifically for darktremors a2sd script? I thought link2sd was just for ungaze...I was wrong...if you find a tutorial on how to use and how to get the most from link2sd, please share

Hi guys,
I have a question regarding installed apps on EXT partition. I understand how it works, but what I want to know is if I were to flash to a new custom rom, would I still be able to see the apps I installed on that EXT partition?
I ask this because I've been flashing new roms a lot recently and it's becoming a hassle to reinstall all my apps over and over again. I've looked up ways to make this process easier or perhaps automated, but they aren't really helpful.
So after doing some research about how EXT partition works on Android, I thought maybe this might work.
By the way, I already have Titanium Backup installed but I'm looking for an easier method than that. I want to simply install all my applications and its application data in one go, like flashing a .zip file from the recovery or something like that. Just simple and straightforward.
And I would like to do this on any rom, not just between different versions of the same rom made by the same developer.
Hi, I know lots of people ask how to run a2sd on a Stock rom, and I know it's not possible.
But what I want is as close to stock as possible, just a Stock rom but with just enough changed to run a2sd.
Well, I have got my stock S5830i 2.3.6 in Cygwin Kitchen, rooted, busybox and runparts.
I flash it, root works, the initd folder is there, the sd card has an ext2 partition.
But as soon as I flash dta2sd or mod the initrc it wont boot.
If i try mount2sd the script fails as the ext partition wont mount.
When turning a stock rom to a custom rom, what bit do I need to edit to enable the sd-ext to mount ???
The devs do a great job with fancy custom roms but a lot of us just want standard with a a2sd, any help appreciated.
Thanks,
M
