Hello guys,
Need a little help.
Right now I am using the stock ROM and I wish to root my device.
But I wish to keep all my 40 to 50 over apps inside my phone, so what can I do to shift those apps to my rooted device (Apps2SD) in future?
Will Market still understand my apps after I transfer to my rooted device?

If you install MoDaCo's ROM, as long as you don't partition your SD card for Apps2SD, your apps will remain on your phone. If/when you do want to move them, simply partitioning the card is all you need to do and the ROM will do the rest automatically.

I thought that if I were to flash MoDaCo's ROM, than it will be a hardreset right?
How do this flash thing actually works?

Thats part of the whole process of going from Windows to Linux
im new aswell but all my stuff endded up being deleted.
because to flash you will need to wipe out the stock ruu and this procces will delete everything. but you can use a backup manager that will backup your apps. but to back up the settings for the apps (e.g. high scores in games) or market link to update in the future you will need root. so you will have to start all over again with your app collecrtion
unless there is a new workaround to this that im not familiar with
I have a rooted CDMA Hero, with stock Rom software version 1.6. I have removed a lot of the apps that came on the phone by reading and learning here, thanks to everyone for that. I now want to install the AppsToSD 2 app, first off, I noticed it's no longer available in the Market, but anyway, I read here almost everywhere that one has to either install "the Dude's" or "JF 1.5" rom to get AppsToSD 2 to work. I have some terminal / linux command knowledge, which I used to root the phone, but I just want to know if with that knowledge, is it possible to install AppsToSD 2 on a STOCK rom like I have, and move the apps to the sd card? I just don't want to install a non-factory rom and modify the OS to that level, removing some stocks apps is one thing, but I don't want to go through the hassle and dangers of flashing a new rom. So is there any way I can still get AppsToSD to work with my stock Hero rom?

sorry to rain on your parade, but it is possible, and not that hard.
boot the custom recovery image, partition your sdcard, move the apps to the ext partition, create the symlinks in /data and reboot. there you go, stock rom, stock recovery, apps on sdcard. works until you flash a new rom (which would delete the symlinks so you'd have to recreate them), but since you don't want to do that you are good to go.
My bad! Sorry! To my defense I have to say that someone told me it wasn't possible. I'll start double-checking my sources from now on.
Hey all, I have rooted and flashed my fist android phone thanks to this forum. And also soft bricked it during a voodoo 1click lag fix install and saved in Odin and re-flashed again lol.
I am looking for a kernel (like I know exactly what it is) that will increase the performance of my device. I currently am running Axura Final and have CMW and Titanium Backup installed.
What kernel would be best for my current set-up and p[referably one that I did not have to use Odin to start the process all over. Looking for a sort of download to SD and reboot in recovery and install type thing!

Here is a thread with all of Eugen's kernels, but you need to register beforehand. Also, stock EB kernel is good, it's found there...
I'm using "B_Stock_1120_100 Kernel" with all tweaks enabled and JFS on all partitions.. About the best stable experience you can get on any JK2 or JK6 based Froyo build IMHO..
Going forward, you may want to read up in here or post in General Q&A to avoid a flame fest, as this is not exactly development thread worthy...

Yes, if you are booting into and flashing from clockwork recovery..
You can put the clockwork recover update.zip in the root of you INTERNAL SD card and boot into from the stock 2E recovery. Alternatively, you can install Rom Manager and have it propagate the flash commands within android.
Perfect... Also, when I use titanium Backup, Will it save all of my current apps as well? Then I just restore from Titanium Backup again right?
To answer your question simply, yes, TB will backup and restore the APK an Data associated with a 3rd party application. Take caution when restoring anything other than 3rd party apps or apps from the market as you can easily make a mess if restoring from different Roms or Android builds all together.
You can do so via the batch menu, selecting to restore/backup all apps with data. If you are in fact a "N00b", I'd stay away from restoring system data and apps until you have a better feel with what can safely be altered. Also, if you don't recognize something in the list, don't restore it.

Hi, I got myself an android phone 5 days ago and i want to learn how to use it properly so i search everything about androids phone and i think this is the best site among other sites to post this question.
1)Transferring SD partition
At first, i didn't know what is root and after learning it, i rooted my phone cause it required in order to increase my memory. I recently bought i new one which is 32GB and i already partition it(using minitool partition wizard) and i was wondering how to transfer all my installed data , phone data and my previous SD to my new one. If i simply copy paste it how about my installed app on my phone? will it cause my app to stop working? if i use titanium back up,can you show me step by step how to use it.
2)Rom manager or Goomanager (custom ROM)
I heard a lot of people saying "Do not use it","too dangerous,too risky","might brick your phone" (i don't even get it, you'll just have to follow the instruction or procedure right?)

what so different about them? (i know for the fact that custom Rom updates quickly)but i need more information.
-what makes you want to install custom Rom, is it worth it?

root concept is a little difficult to understand (and to explain) to anybody that never used Linux before. To put it simple, root means that you have administrator privileges, so you can do anything you desire (even break your phone very easily ).
I dunno if a plain copy can works with the ETX partition, but you can do this: Move your apps to your phone again, disable Link2SD, put your new SD, enable Link2SD and move all to the EXT partition.
If I misunderstood this, and you don't have partitioned your actual SD, forget that I said before. Copy all from the old SD to the new one, there aren't problems at all.
I don't recommend to use Titanium Backup if you're installing a completely different ROM, since it can cause problems (if you're reinstalling your actual ROM, is OK to use it).
Custom ROM advantages:
quick updates, as you said.
lightweight, only few apps will be installed (without the bunch of crap that carriers or manufacturers usually add).
faster than stock, mostly cases.
Many features that stock ROM doesn't have (depends of ROM and the developer).
You should choose your ROM wisely, since not all ROMs are enough stable and can cause weird problems (as forced closes, slow down the phone, random reboots...). If you're unsure, try the popular ones and choose one.
Titanium backup doesn't make a clone of your phone, only the apps and its data. As I said before, I don't recommend to use it if you're moving to another ROM (you can try to install the app as usual, and only restore its data using Titanium Backup, it's better than restore app+data).

wow... you have so many doubts... hahaha - got tired of iphone 5 so i switch to samsung galaxy since its new, ive got to be careful.
what ways can can your phone be brick? so that i could avoid it.

And why do you need to expand memory?
1. Transferring data to SD card is not only copy paste them. Not that simple.. U have to use an application that able to move data to SD safely without problem. If the data u wanted to move is like Pictures, Music, Video then it could be done by a simple copy paste.
2. Stock ROM and Custom ROM is two different things. Basically stock ROM is the one that officially has been tested its compatibility to phones which means it is safe to use it. While Custom ROMs are different. Not all of Custom ROMs are tested and u use it by ur own risk. It is true that by using custom ROM could improve ur phone because basically the Custom ROM was maded by other people that wanted to improve what Stock ROM didn't have. Custom ROM could harm ur phone if it is not used in a right way or that the ROM doesn't match ur phone.
3. Clockworkmod Recovery and Titanium backup are basically a similar app. They both meant to backup ur data. The thing is, clockwork use to backup ur ROM in case u want to change ur current ROM and maybe u want it back again. when i bought samsung(rooted), i got free huawei ascend y210d (y210-200) yet to be rooted though(thats why iam asking about sd partition in advance), when i use poot.akp from this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204259.

1. Move your installed apps by using link2sd, or u can also move it by using ROM toolbox. only the installed apps that u thinks u should move. for Video, Music, Pictures, etc. u can move them by a simple 'cut' 'paste' method.
3. Yup, remember to backup all ur data first in Titanium before u download n install new ROM..
