[Q] Update ATRIX to latest 1.8.3 on GreyBlur - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have greyblur 2.0 installed on my ATRIX and not sure what is the process of installing latest 1.8.3 on this phone. I checked on system Updates and it is not showing any updates. I am assuming it is due to the fact that I have Greyblur.
I beleive I have to go back to factory default, update all ATT updates and install GreyBlur but I am looking for exact process on how to do it. I looked at Greyblur installation guide but it does not mention goging back to original--> Update --> Greyblur..
Any help ?

What are you on right now?
I got the notification while on GreyBlur during 4.1.83 beta.

I used this thread to update my rom and firmware!

Well that was a totally pointless post! Grats on bumping your post count.
Some people have had issues with still getting the reminder for the OTA update after flashing the 4.1.83 sbf over 4.1.57.
The way to ensure it is a clean install is to flash back to 4.1.26, then update with the 4.1.57 sbf, then OTA to 4.1.83................or flash 4.1.57 sbf, then OTA to 4.1.83.

Way to be an asshole for no reason. I already provided a perfectly sound example on how to take care of the problem and felt like "having fun". I personally find it refreshing when people show some sort of personality on forums instead of just plain old answers.
Furthermore, I don't care about my post count and its pretty retarded of people who do. Don't try to pretend like you know why I post what I post. Your assumption is insulting at best.

[Q] Froyo 2.2 Update... when?

Last night I received an OTA which apparently added only two apps the HD camcorder and the task killer... however there's no update for 2.2 anywhere is there a way to download it manually?
Yes. Root it and install a froyo rom from the dev section.

I'm a noob if you can help me with details I would appreciate it
thanks
if you are a noob, don't flash froyo.
It's not really that stable right now, and not worth it.
Just wait till the OTA comes out.
Exciting stuff. Can't wait to hear more details.

OTA is out. YES it is. I have 2 vibrants. Mine was rooted, home screen, super user.
went to install OTA and it crashed. My phone is bricked! The image below is all I get. power on, attempt to vol/pwr and this is it.
That's a little phone, caution sign, and computer.
My other vibrant updated just fine. It was all stock.

Please take 1-2 hours and read these forum threads. Yes it is the OTA update - NO it is not Froyo 2.2 (if that is what your implying)
What you have is a soft brick. From reading this forum I know you will have to use ODIN and flash back to stock.
Can you? Im not sure. Do you have a hardware locked phone? If so did you flash the fix before the OTA update?
The General and Dev sections are loaded with info on how to fix most problems - it just takes time to read them

I was not implying that it was. It does sound like that, I was just mad that an OTA bricked my phone.
I did go through the forums and found one post that worked. I flashed back to stock, and am now back to where I was.

Your best bet is probably just to flash to SBF 1.83. You can root from there using Gingerbreak

I can get the update now. I was part of the ATRIX 4G Pre-Release Software Test.
Problem is that I cant get software update since my phone is rooted.
search the forum and download sbf 183.
Then open the sticky thread how to flash sbf to your phone, and use the 183 file you found .
183 on mine didn't wipe my data..
So installed a clean 142 then update then flashed 183, root etc etc, and waiting for the 3.0 gingerblur!!!!!!!!
And I think that update increased wifi reception!!!

You can try the post above, flashing 1.83 sbf. Easy to do.
Or try unroot script within Gladroot

From my understanding, you can upgrade even if the phone's rooted as long as you don't have a custom theme or pseudo-ROM like GingerBlur or GladAtrix installed. You'll lose root though, so make sure you can re-root it.
This should be in QA bro!

flash gingerbread 2.3.4 on atrix at&t 1.83

Hi guys,
I have a motorola Atrix AT & T version 1.83, I would like to upgrade to 2.3.4 gingerbread, what should I do?
someone can explain well all the steps I need to do.
I've already unlocked bootloader
If you are smart enough to unlock the bootloader, I am assuming you would be smart enough to know where to post your question?
There is already step by step instructions in here on how to install CWM and then 2.3.4.

The previous posts are right, you should probably get in the habit of searching around a bit before posting questions.
Either way, here's a link to the instructions on how to flash the 2.3.4 HKTW build to an unlocked Atrix. If you are AT ALL uncomfortable with the instructions, worried about voiding your warranty or this is your first time then you should probably wait for an official ROM to be released. Be forewarned, there are still a bunch of bugs still to be worked out.

One thing to note. With a bit of tweaking, specifically modifying of /system/build.prop, this build is fully functional as far as i can tell, minus the front facing camera and fingerprint scanner being broken, so depending on your needs, it CAN be ready for daily use. The CWM flashable version of 2.3.4 seems to be much more broken than independently flashing /system and /boot.

Can I flash back Froyo after upgrade to Gingerbread?

I'm tired of all the issues with battery and want to downgrade back to 2.2. Is it safe to do from Gingerbread which I have right now?

This is just tells that it's impossible to do with SBF flash. Can this be done via CWM flash instead?

You have not done anything wrong thus far. Which is to say, you haven't burnt a fuse by going to 2.3.4. OTA. As of now, you're capable of reverting back to 1.8.3. without any issues.

I'm assuming you know how to flash? If so, here is the link to all available firmwares:

After reading your post again, I realize you probably don't know how to flash...
Go to our wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Atrix_4G) and get RSD Lite (search it if you don't see it)
That's the tool you'll use to flash the firmware you pick out from the first link I gave you.

Not at all, from what I understand... you've not updated with the OTA Update. In which chase you're safe from "the point of no return"
waiting for the brick in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..............
If you attempt to flash any froyo sbf that doesnt contain pudding pre-applied, and only after you've unlocked, you might as well throw your phone in the toilet.

If you read the post on Kenneth's thread then you would know that ANY Over The Air, OTA, update would result in a hard brick. If you flash Kenneths ROM, Which this guy did, then it is safe to use RSDLite.
I would recommend pointing him in the appropriate direction rather then saying "waiting for the brick" since you do display knowledge of knowing what to do.
From kenneths thread about Hard Bricks!
How can I avoid this Brick?
You can avoid bricking your device by not flashing any over-the-air updates to Android 2.3.4. Instead, try flashing the 2.3.4 zip over here. Or, flash the pure stock images from here.
So is it safe or not to downgrade ROM? Say, can I just download GingerBlur (http://briefmobile.com/gingerblur-rom-for-atrix-4g) and install it using CWM with no repricussions?
I never updated any OTA updates and right now on unlocked bootloaders and Kenn's Gingerbread
Ok, Since everyone rather comment on how not to do it but not point you in the right direction then I will give you the link to a place that is a safe alternative for you.
But first I want to ask you if you tried to flash any other ROM like "Ninja v0.4.5" by samcripp or "Alien" by kenneth? The Alien ROM has the battery fix with it so it is safe and battery life lasts awhile. When I say awhile I mean I did not charge my phone two days and dropped to 30% in a 48 hour period. There is a script by Juggernaut that you can flash to any ROM that fixes the battery spike issue.
But if you rather go backwards to FroYo then here is a link with directions to flash, a new method, Fruit cakes! it's a safe alternative and you flash it through CWM never using RSD ever again. Fruit cakes
If you have any questions I would either ask here or ask on the Fruitcake thread.
HAPPY FLASHING!!!!
A
Thanks. That worked. I'm now on Froyo but still having battery issues. Problem is that Fruitcakes does not contain radio image and I'm still on GB radio. How do I downgrade radio? I don't beleive there is CWM packages for that. If I find radio.img for Froyo can I downgrade it safely via RSD or fastboot without possibility of bricking my phone?
If you have any questions I would either ask here or ask on the Fruitcake thread.

Well I did some searching and I can only find two threads that are relatively close to a radio on FroYo.. Only difference between our stock ATT and these two are international/tweaked radios.
Tweaked ATT radio
French modded radio

You can always hard brick your phone when you're in RSD; loss of connection between phone & PC, power outage, anything that disrupts the process = (more or less 100% of the cases) hard brick

And for that very reason I try to not SBF my phone unless there's no other way. CWM and fastboot work perfectly fine. Besides that, my main PC is a desktop.
Loss of power = brick. That's why I only use RSD off of laptop.

[Q] Telus has now removed 2.3.3 for fascinate...

Anyone happen to know, or even a guess why telus would remove the GB update from their site. I've read about people have various problems with the updating, but from what I read, those problems were PC related.
Mine worked just fine.
I also have a question... is it possible to dump a stock rom and/or radio and/or kernel without having root?
Thx
Maniac
Can anyone confirm if this is true?
That is sort of strange. Im glad I was able to get it in time. And rooted too
People were losing SD cards on telus also.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Can anyone tell me how I can rip the rom, cause I've tried the method found on these forums for the fascinate for froyo, but when I tried to odin it back it didn't work.
So right now I'm almost afraid to shut the phone off just in case I can't boot and I have no way to get it back to stock GB.
Mainly what I want to do is make a factory image that I can put somewhere for others to download it. Cause I want to try some things but I can't until telus puts the update up again.

I think Telus was getting all kinds of questions on when it would be available when they had no control over it - so they made a generic upgrade page.
I just tried with Kies and I got GingerBread BUT I'm also staring a long time at a galaxy S screen - lost my clockwork mod recovery as well (back to stock 3E).
Hmmmm - anyone know if this update is still available online somewhere as I have no OTA to get it and of course as the thread says... TELUS has pulled it.

I'm pretty sure to upgrade through the Samsung Kies software, you will have to remove any mods / hacks that you made to your phone.
Best option probably is to flash everything back to Stock, which I did. Then had no problem updating via Kies:

Alright I'll give that a shot tonight, the only 'mod' I have done would be rooting the phone - other than that it is stock at this time.
I guess the one thing I really shouldve mentioned in my first reply is I have the Fascinate 4G with TELUS, is the update specific to the 3G+?

Oh wait! If you have the Fascinate 4G+ (T959P) then you may not want to flash everything back to 2.2.
I'm not 100% sure that it may work with 4G Fascinate.
Can anyone validate the following steps will work on his Fascinate 4G+ ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923712
They are different phones. If you could get the 3G+ file to flash at all (which I doubt), it would almost certainly semi brick the phone. There is an update section on telus website for fascinate 4G (just below the 3G+ entry) (no update available today). When you see the update available there, you're good to go.
I have the 4g and I won't flash anything made for the 3g. Two different phones. I remember reading a thread about people bricking the 4g while trying to put 3g stuff on it.
