flash gingerbread 2.3.4 on atrix at&t 1.83 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have a motorola Atrix AT & T version 1.83, I would like to upgrade to 2.3.4 gingerbread, what should I do?
someone can explain well all the steps I need to do.
I've already unlocked bootloader

If you are smart enough to unlock the bootloader, I am assuming you would be smart enough to know where to post your question?

There is already step by step instructions in here on how to install CWM and then 2.3.4.

The previous posts are right, you should probably get in the habit of searching around a bit before posting questions.
Either way, here's a link to the instructions on how to flash the 2.3.4 HKTW build to an unlocked Atrix. If you are AT ALL uncomfortable with the instructions, worried about voiding your warranty or this is your first time then you should probably wait for an official ROM to be released. Be forewarned, there are still a bunch of bugs still to be worked out.

One thing to note. With a bit of tweaking, specifically modifying of /system/build.prop, this build is fully functional as far as i can tell, minus the front facing camera and fingerprint scanner being broken, so depending on your needs, it CAN be ready for daily use. The CWM flashable version of 2.3.4 seems to be much more broken than independently flashing /system and /boot.

Seven2099 Guide

New to android and the forms and looking into some info on seven guide. I would post on that page but since im new I can't so I thought I would start here. It shows that Canadian Atrix (OLYLA 0.37.4)is supported, now I have 2.2.2 OLYLA 0.37.23 as a build number. Since my build number is newer can I not use any of the methods posted on his guide. I alreadyhave it rooted with gingerbreak but I was looking to deodex the systm and run grey blur on the phone.
Thanks
Some roms are for the att version only I would go post on one of the roms you want and ask. The developer should be able to point you in the right way.

Bell firmwares are not supported. You can run greyblur on the Frech SBF (2.1.1). It's very easy to get greyblur on a Bell Atrix, unfortunately it means flashing another SBF. It's not such a big deal anymore though because we have a method of getting back to stock Bell if need be. My advice: follow Seven's guide and flash greyblur or gingerblur on your phone. It's much smoother and I found a significant increase in battery life. If you don't like it, you can always find the guide in the general section that explains how to get back to Bell's firmware. It's all very straightforward if you follow the guides to a T. We are lucky to have such helpful members in the Atrix community!

Thanks

This is just tells that it's impossible to do with SBF flash. Can this be done via CWM flash instead?
Which GB did you upgrade with? Leaked OTA, Kenneth Penn's, official OTA, etc?

You have not done anything wrong thus far. Which is to say, you haven't burnt a fuse by going to 2.3.4. OTA. As of now, you're capable of reverting back to 1.8.3. without any issues.

I'm assuming you know how to flash? If so, here is the link to all available firmwares:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
After reading your post again, I realize you probably don't know how to flash...
Go to our wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Atrix_4G) and get RSD Lite (search it if you don't see it)
That's the tool you'll use to flash the firmware you pick out from the first link I gave you.

Not at all, from what I understand... you've not updated with the OTA Update. In which chase you're safe from "the point of no return"
waiting for the brick in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..............
If you attempt to flash any froyo sbf that doesnt contain pudding pre-applied, and only after you've unlocked, you might as well throw your phone in the toilet.

If you read the post on Kenneth's thread then you would know that ANY Over The Air, OTA, update would result in a hard brick. If you flash Kenneths ROM, Which this guy did, then it is safe to use RSDLite.
I would recommend pointing him in the appropriate direction rather then saying "waiting for the brick" since you do display knowledge of knowing what to do.
From kenneths thread about Hard Bricks!
How can I avoid this Brick?
You can avoid bricking your device by not flashing any over-the-air updates to Android 2.3.4. Instead, try flashing the 2.3.4 zip over here. Or, flash the pure stock images from here.
So is it safe or not to downgrade ROM? Say, can I just download GingerBlur (http://briefmobile.com/gingerblur-rom-for-atrix-4g) and install it using CWM with no repricussions?
I never updated any OTA updates and right now on unlocked bootloaders and Kenn's Gingerbread
Ok, Since everyone rather comment on how not to do it but not point you in the right direction then I will give you the link to a place that is a safe alternative for you.
But first I want to ask you if you tried to flash any other ROM like "Ninja v0.4.5" by samcripp or "Alien" by kenneth? The Alien ROM has the battery fix with it so it is safe and battery life lasts awhile. When I say awhile I mean I did not charge my phone two days and dropped to 30% in a 48 hour period. There is a script by Juggernaut that you can flash to any ROM that fixes the battery spike issue.
But if you rather go backwards to FroYo then here is a link with directions to flash, a new method, Fruit cakes! it's a safe alternative and you flash it through CWM never using RSD ever again. Fruit cakes
If you have any questions I would either ask here or ask on the Fruitcake thread.
HAPPY FLASHING!!!!
A
Thanks. That worked. I'm now on Froyo but still having battery issues. Problem is that Fruitcakes does not contain radio image and I'm still on GB radio. How do I downgrade radio? I don't beleive there is CWM packages for that. If I find radio.img for Froyo can I downgrade it safely via RSD or fastboot without possibility of bricking my phone?
If you have any questions I would either ask here or ask on the Fruitcake thread.
HAPPY FLASHING!!!![/QUOTE]
Well I did some searching and I can only find two threads that are relatively close to a radio on FroYo.. Only difference between our stock ATT and these two are international/tweaked radios.

You can always hard brick your phone when you're in RSD; loss of connection between phone & PC, power outage, anything that disrupts the process = (more or less 100% of the cases) hard brick

And for that very reason I try to not SBF my phone unless there's no other way. CWM and fastboot work perfectly fine. Besides that, my main PC is a desktop.
Loss of power = brick. That's why I only use RSD off of laptop.

On 4.5.91 No root, locked bootloader looking for CM7

Hey there guys,
First off, yes I've done my reading. But as a precaution Im asking you for help here. I've just bought a used Atrix, in mint condition. As in the title the guy I bought it from apparently, much to my disgust, prefers stock and Im looking for some CM7 goodness. I've read most guides but none there actually discusses what to do on a the latest stock and how to go from there. (Have I missed anything? If so plz guide me there)
So there you have it all. No root, Locked bootloader on 2.3.4. Where to go from here?
Appreciate all the help in advance
EDIT: Ok apparently I missed this thread, so now I know I have to flash this but question is; How do I make sure I've a locked bootloader? Thanks again guys.
EDIT 2: I've just rooted it with OneClickRoot and all is a go now. Does this mean I've an unlocked BL? How can I make sure? Please guys just this last bit
On boot up does your Motorola dual core screen say "unlocked " in upper left corner?

Nope, is that the only way to be unlocked? I mean I read somewhere that Motorola unlocked the bootloader in the latest GB release, Isn't that true?
Ok peeps; Unlocked, rooted and now running the spectacular CM7 thanks to Automatic unlock. Awesome program, even better dev!
You want to share how exactly you did it? I've HARD bricked two Atrix's now trying to install CM7 because I have followed outdated guides.

I've used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15930466
You'll get a failed to start 1001 or sth after using it. Don't freak out, you haven't bricked. Just use fastboot and type the commands in the OP from the link. That's what I did

Could you provide any info on what Atrix you are using? Is it Intl? AT&T?
What firmware?
In what step did you end up hard bricking? During root? Unlocking the bootloader? Flashing CM7?

Help a noob go back in time!

i know this is brought up alot on the forums and theres plenty of answers but im that much of a noob too flashing ect.. that i have no idea what any of these answers are talking about and i need someone to help me through how to do it...
I put gingerblur on my rooted atrix yesterday using this video
youtube.com/watch?v=MvC0C2h95BY&list=FLqfb2F1A2s4Z08JTFsWNuGg& index=4&feature=plpp_video (which involves CMW or something)
meaning i had no idea what i was doing just following step by steps on the video, and ever since my homescreen button and search button dont work and i no longer have a lock screen so i want to go back to stock because i dont like the bugginess!
my phone before i put it on gingerblur was 2.2.2 froyo on tmobile uk (unlocked device with no tmobile branding on the rear cover)
i would really apreciate it if someone could guide me how to turn it back to the software it came with or an official less buggy software please?
i checked my ota upgrade with gingerblur on the device and it says i can go to ATT gingerbread but then im sure this wouldnt work in the uk with the radio update but someone said i can do the ota then just flash the radio to a uk one but i had no idea what that means
im not sure at all what im doing with this and i wish i didnt follow the tutorial in the first place can someone help me please!
i just want to get back to stock or an official software that will work on tmobile uk and not brick my phone.
any helpe is appreciated thank you!
P.S i have CWM recovery does this have anything to do with restoring your phone how it was because it seems to have recovery options?
Did you unlock the bootloader? If you did, and have CWM, just install a ROM of your preference
If you want a hint on what ROM to choose,
Most of the ROMS available are based on 2.3, so consider going with CM7 if you like AOSP or Aura if you want blur
im not sure what a bootloader is all i can say i did was root my phone, then use that tutorial thats all iv done.. ohh ok so rather than being able to go back too a stable stock build i have to stay with roms full of bugs? :/
I'm gonna assume that you have tried a factory reset (most basic thing i could imagine)
I don't think that there are any SBFs for people with the T-mobile version, so i think the only thing you can do is either search for a removal tool or unlock the bootloader, install CWM recovery and then install a ROM.
You should read this. Or you can follow this video guide.
Actually, ROMs can often be very stable and offer way more functionality.
You could always grab a "stock" ROM and install that, should be as close to stable as you can get.
ohh ok well i already have CWM recovery install in my phone so i guess installing a stable rom would be the best option for me? until i can go back to stock by sbf
What version of CWM do you have? How did you install it?

Gingrrblur is not a real rom therefore you are not unlocked and do not have a full cwm that you can flash other roms with. Just use an sbf from the firmware thread to get you back to stock gb then if you want to find a radio corresponding to your area on the same thread. Both are flashed through rsd lite
sent from my Atrix via XDA premium
yes, Gingerblur is a pseudo-ROM (p-ROM) and from what I know, it doesn't touch alot of important parts of the phone, for example the bootloader.
I'm guessing your bootloader is exactly the same as a regular 2.2. I guess flashing the IHOP_Bell.sbf and then doing fastboot unlock should do the trick
ok we're getting somewhere
I kinda understand now so could you send me some links in the order I need to so each thing please? One thing I don't want to do is install software from at&t and then have the wrong radio lol from what IV found there's no T-mobile software but is some orange ones and seeing as tmobile and orange are the same company in the uk, so basically I could get official gingerbread software then a T-mobile radio software and put them both on my atrix now I just need to know how to do it

I would recommend MRom(build on CM7.2) which is pretty decent especially in regard of battery life, until they create a firm version of this ICS leak. It's probably going to be a Jelly Bean release because some guy succeeded to create a JB rom out of this leaked Atrix 4G ICS leak.

If all you want to do is root you can check out superoneclick root, it did the job for me on the last available GB update released. But remember that you have to have the proper drivers installed and that this does not allow you to flash custom roms, it simply gives you root access.
The drivers can be found here (I think).
superoneclick can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
also make sure to read a bit from that thread.
If you are a n00b don't install THAT rom... it's very unstable..
superoneclick rocks
