What are you talking about? They never officially claimed it'd be out by May. This is the first official announcement since........ 4 months ago.

Guys did u notice one thing,..., the camera app has the same icon as froyo..?
same goes for gallery, phone book, calc, ... the list goes on...
Also, battery, signal, 3g...are all weird ... especially signal...its supposed to turn green when its connected to google servers, isn't it?
Are u sure this is the " ufficiale " Gingerbread ROM for Optimus One p500 ?
Somehow I don't think LG will post such a HUGE RELEASE in such a small manner - video - that only a few come to know about ( initially )....( just thinking out aloud )

also on facebook:
We are still working on a new version that improves the management of the MicroSD (avoiding unwanted disconnections) and the management of the touch (do not let the CPU goes to 100% when you touch the display).

Use common sense, please.
It's an official LG facebook page for Italian customers. The announcement was also made in Italian. Yes, it's official. But yes, it'll be made in English as well.
But I believe we will get it before the Italian version.

I don't know what to believe. The release date keep getting pushed out. Last I was told, it should out in May...
I think LG wait for the Optimus 2x gingerbread update......Optimus One mustn't be the first phone with 2.3.....
Well, i think it will roll out on other country first, way before Italy...
I am on a Singaporean FW. Hope that means we will get it sooner. Praying...
We'll just have to wait and see.
Hopefully it will be released by the end of this month, but if it will be July, also not a big problem.
One way or the other, we're getting an official Gingerbread.

not good enough for such a high end device in my eyes. if it is a case that we wont be getting 2.2 in sept then dell should do the moral thing and release 2.2 source for us to mess about with
Dell have been saying that they wll release with 1.6 and update to 2.2.
Yet again, yesterday, they stated the same thing
Click for post --> Like I mentioned in my previous Dell Streak post, the Android 2.2 over the air update (Froyo) will come later this year. We will ship Dell Streak with Android 1.6.

Yup - looks good on your screen mate.....what about getting it on to ours....there wasnt really much in that, as there was no timeline - is it really that hard to say 2.2 will be ready......"insert date here" and if you dont make it just let us know, then we a, know that its being worked on and b, know what the actual version to be released will actually be.....sheesh - is it really that hard. Personally if they'd said end of september.....adn then it rolled over and they post and say "taking a bit longer" end of oct - id be happy with that - at least i know....in a world of open and instant communication they havent actually done neither....
Am i being too harsh??

not at all, i don't think its the hardest thing in the world to narrow it down to a date... I've not bought my streak yet as I'm waiting for 2.1/2 before i take the plunge...
As far as reading comments on the web goes... god know where hes been looking, one main issue i has is with the horrific keyboard layout! there should be some option to remove that bloody numpad!
I would have bought one of these for the large screen internet browsing. Though it has been a disaster that its been released with 1.6. By the time this comes out nexus one users will have gingerbread.
There is, I have swype and touchpal working on my device and they are great. Look up the swype apk or download touchpal on the market. They work unbelievably.

Just read engadget this morning......ARE YOU READING THIS SITE MR DELL....Droid x already getting 2.2.....
As of yesterday i took delivery of my Nexus One so, for the moment i have 2 phones....depending on what Dell does will depend on whether i have it over the next 6 weeks or so.
I dare say im not the only one...
I don't think Dell actually realise how much they are damaging their sales by packaging such a high end device with what is essentially year old software with no update time fram... I know they said by the end of the year but that's still anytime over the next 5 months!

I think its more to do with we don't have any bloody source to work with!
the current kernel doesn't want to play with 2.2
And so far I haven't got a cooked kernel to boot, so I may be missing something.
To help efforts maybe we should try an nd all work out what there is propriety in the current roms, and then we can include what we're missing.
I am determined to at least get a vanilla froyo kernel and system working...whether it will be any good is another matter, but I'm on holiday for another week so no linux box to play with...

Its worthless hype from a non-credible source...
First the article refers to a different article from another provider. (the ole' heard it from a friend and they said) This is a hallmark of bad reporting first off.
Second the article they refer to says "Samsung Announced that later tonight" @ things are wrong with this. 1: A link to the announcement is not cited, nor will a search for it reveal anything, 2: The article was posted on the 15th, and the evening of the 15th has come and gone.
Thrid, the refered article is another non-credible source ( a look at their other offerings for news stories include... The iBoard, 1 yearold pregnant baby, a female hacker that is stealing porn, pictures of ufo's taken from the shuttle ) I have seen similar reporting from tabloids.
Forth, and this should have been obvious a glaring use a largely vague words... Supposed, Should, Could... if it were the real deal, those words would be Will, Does, Will ( again )
Lastly, obscured in the article is a single phrase which should have been as bold as the hearder text designed to trap simple hopeful minds, "though no confirmation on the actual deployment emerged at the moment."
Personal disclaimer... I like most people am personally hopefully that the fabled froyo will come in the next given moment, but seriously, every crack pot "news" site will say it is tomorrow relying more on the doomsday soothsayer approach to reporting... ( if they are right, they appearently had the scoop, if they are wrong, something must have held it up. ) Just sit back, whine and complain about it not being here, and rejoice when it actually is
2.2 is available, just not officially
The development section has some amazing froyo action. Try the one in my signature.

Bad news fellas - the LG Optimus One P500 is obviously going to be stuck to Froyo for the rest of its life. The device that is certainly one of the best bargains you can get for the holiday season, but despite being announced just a few weeks before Gingerbread was released, it won't get a chance to taste it.
It's not the first time a manufacturer has let down its users with OS updates. Besides it is probably more tolerable here, considering that the Optimus One is meant to rival high-end feature phones, rather than smartphone top-dogs. However what's most embarrassing is the way LG brought the news to its customers.
A post on the LG Facebook page states that the Optimus One P500 won't be updated because there's a 1GHz minimum requirement for Gingerbread. Makes total sense, right? They can't update it without fixing the hardware, which is impossible. Except that it's not true and there is no such Gingerbread requirement and that was confirmed by the Android guru Dan Morill.
We really hope it's a case of the guys maintaining the Facebook page being ill-informed or otherwise there's no explanation for the LG blatant lies.

For me it's not a problem...if does everything good on froyo...
But I see a little "hope" of devs to get something "gingerbread" to work with P500 since there is no 1GHz minimum requirement
and is bull**** because there is no need 1Ghz gingerbread to run ...
Okay, there are no information from LG, everything else is a lie. I got an answer of the LG support and they told me, it isn't clear right now. So just wait and stay cool.

To be honest, this LG-guy seems to me a little bit like he don't really know what is happening there. If he didn't know that Gingerbread don't require a 1Ghz CPU, I think that his comment should not be seen as an official statement.
/edit: And sorry for my bad english
after being on T-Mobile as long as I have, I'm used to things like this. If i ever want any updates, I have to ROOT and install a cooked version of the update. It happened on the Mytouch 3G, and it will most likely have to happen on my LGOT.
Lets focus on Cyanogen and the devs on here and on android central for the best info on 2.3 coming to the LG OO.
I reckon the downside of buying a full feature though budget Android phone is that you - realistically from a business perspective - can't expect the manufacturer to invest money to give you more than you paid for (which is an Android Froyo phone, nothing more, nothing less).
TL;DR: You get what you pay for.
What you may (realistically?) expect is that they allocate means to solve current critical firmware issues, if and when confirmed.

Hopes from LG for a Gingerbread P500
Guys, just read a good news from Engadget: (sorry for not able to post link as i'm a newbie)
You might remember yesterday's brouhaha over LG's seemingly false claim that Android 2.3 Gingerbread requires a 1GHz processor or better, using it as a justification for keeping an official upgrade out of the hopes and dreams of Optimus One owners around the globe -- but the good news is that it appears to have been a misunderstanding. Here's the official statement from LG:
"LG released information prematurely regarding the minimum processor upgrade requirements for the LG Optimus. Google recently announced the Gingerbread platform and has not yet published the Gingerbread Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) or the public branch open source code. Once the CDD and the source code is public, LG will evaluate the upgradability of the Optimus Series. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding. We will alert you as soon as more information on this topic is available."
So they're taking responsibility for jumping the gun and have committed to "evaluating the upgradability" of the Optimus line once Google's published Gingerbread's official requirements and turned loose the source code. Of course, it's possible they'll ultimately find another reason for keeping the phones stuck on Froyo -- but for now, we've got a sliver of hope.

I think they released the buggy leaked version intentionally for guys like mik , frnaco , andy to fix it . I am sure that , if the leaked version bugs are fixed , the 2.3 will appear .
LG two words for you... @#$% YOU!!!! Lazy ass!!!
Hahahah IMHO within some days they'll make some leaked sources "magically" appear and when our developers will have fixed them, they'll just copy the fixes and release GB for O1...
This is hardly a surprise. Have you noticed that no LG phones have gingerbread at all? Not even the brand new ones. I think the ginger update will only be released when it works on all phones including the Optimus 2X and the Optimus Black. I don't really think we will see the update for the Optimus One before then.
Anyhow, I think this is mostly irrelevant. I got this phone back in November as a stop gag / entry point onto the smartphone land and it served it's purpose. To me, there isn't much point in updating it.
That doesn't mean old phones shouldn't be updated, they should, but with the Android update methods/structures I can't see this being very feasible. That's why I eagerly await to see what will Google do with Ice cream Sandwich to keep that "18 months" up to date promise they made. If the answer isn't very convincing I'll just switch to Windows Phone 7. That's what I originally wanted but the platform wasn't very mature, now with the Mango update things look very different.
All in all, let's see what Google will do on Q4 and then I, and you guys as well, will decide what to do.

Well man, from your point of view maybe you're right...
But I choosed Android because it is an open-source OS, so it has its pros and its cons... The mainly pro is that if your brand doesn't decide to update your OS or your phone is not supported officially, there will be a developer who will try to port another source to your device...
I emailed LG few times, and still wating for an answer, if any one done his own reaserch post it here so we could get some info.

I have yet to see any phone released not get at least one update. It might not always be in the most timely of manners but an update always seems to be inevitable. I think they are almost forced to make at least one no matter the popularity of the phone. I had a Samsung Behold II and we got at least one update and I would say it was probably the least popular phone at the time. So unless you can show me a phone that has been out for more then a year that hasn't had at least one version update then I'm sure the L9 will get it.
Also never trust reps either on the phone or in person. They don't have much more information then what you can find in press releases on the web.

We don't have access . It looks like JB beta for L9.
Odp: [Q] Possible upgrade to JB ?
But it's great to hear that lg is doing something. Is there any hacker ?

How come P760 gets the updates before the others ?

probably because as the p760, it was the first of the variants, and therefore is the first to be developed for.

I have yet to see any phone released not get at least one update. It might not always be in the most timely of manners but an update always seems to be inevitable. I think they are almost forced to make at least one no matter the popularity of the phone. The Htc one v(less then a year) started with ics and It won't be upgraded to jelly bean for sure (confirmed by htc).
Even the galaxy s wasn't upgraded to ics back then.
There are a lot of phones that didn't receive an upgrade.
There are other factors to consider other than the phone's release date.
Anyway, I think this phone will get JB

Looks like the only reason it's not getting Jelly Bean is because the One V only has 512mb of ram. I guess that's a deal breaker. Otherwise it seems like it would of got it. Also the Galaxy S started with Eclair if I remember correctly so it has received updates.

yeah samsung where douchbags for not upgrading galaxy s1 to ics.
because lg did upgrade the l optimus blaxck ot ICS, and the phones have same specs, and lg ui and touchwizz ui are i think same in ram and performance.
samsung just didnt wanted to update it;
and i was shocked to see that lg did update the Optimus black.
but yet no other lg phone has JB so we will see. they are slow with updates lg. but they do give it but they take there time.
first one will be the 4x hd. and then the rest.
i have the lg optimus 2x (crappy phone it is) so i think i will get the LG l9 p760 (i live in french) saw on gsmarena it has good battery life so thats great. (still no fan of lg but for this price i will that the risque)

The s1 started with éclair while the Optimus black started with froyo. That means if the s1 got ics it would of been upgraded 3 times. They would have paid 3 times for coders to port the newest os over to that device. They would also have to wait for the carrier to update their apps for the new os. Then they would need to beta test it. Then work on it some more. It's expensive and to do it 3 times makes it not worth it. Especially since no one is buying the s1 anymore let alone selling it.

Well i talked again with guy from LG and that is what he sayed (btw it is bad and good news) :
JB will be available , they dont know when and how !!!(last time he sayed same thing , but this time he told me we would get working rom not only sources)but only international version will get the upgrade.
It is just what he sayed , i dont know is he wrong or not, but atm p760 (international l9) is the only variant available on the lg site so ther is nothing strange that lg concentrated on this device.
IF U HATE ME NOW, im realy sorry.
The other variants are most cases carier specyfic products, so propably it not depends only from LG company.
(my english is so bad, sry for this)

Reps are dumb and have no information outside of press releases. They just tell you what they think might happen. They are not LG's official word.

Not True! Please be careful when you say that. Such information can make people hate you (as guessed by you)
P765 (Asian and India version) is not carrier specific. Its released in Open Market in India. No Indian Carrier even knows about this variant as yet. LG India directly released this from their own marketing chain. Its listed on website independently without any carrier tie-up.

Well said! I second that. I have experience with LG Reps regarding Optimus 2x for last 2 years and some of devs conversed with them too and some of us have great (lolz) experience with these so called reps of LG. Lolz. It seems they only try to pacify the DESPERATE customers with this kind of information. We waited whole 10 months more for ICS for O2X which they released in DEC 12 which was scheduled in First quarter of '12.
Is there anyone here, who can give confirmation, that they have given any specific DATE of next update or os release?
Their typical words are, "We do not have the exact update schedule but you will get update sooner". Now the word "sooner" is still to be investigated properly.
But shouldnt the updates now be faster that Google teamed up with LG to create the Nexus 4 ? Nexus gets updates before everyone.

The nexus and this phone are two different beasts. They helped with the nexus but lg has many other phones that also need upgrades. So we are waiting in a line right now

Odp: [Q] Possible upgrade to JB ?
Please remember im only sharing info with you guys. And this thread is for sharing everything u hear or read, it dont have to be 100% sure info.
Not much related but ther is a little leak for 4x HD
JB 4x HD
so ther is a slight chance they are realy working for our JB. L9 is the top model of L series powerful enough to handle JB.
Keep fingers crossed.
